One of my favorite places in the city! Its a great place to go with a small group of friends to play any type of board or card games! The Cafe isnt large a d its definitely popular so keep this in mind, if you go after work or on a weekend it will get crowded and you may have to wait a while for a table. Typically you can rent a table for $10 a person for 3 hours, abd if its possible (no one is waiting for a table) you can extend the time. They have games for sale too. If you get thirsty they have both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks to choose from and a limited selection of snacks. I highly recommend this place of you have some time to kill in the city with friends! Keep in mind they do require proof of vaccinations to reserve a table.
Great place to kill some time with friends on a cold day. Their rates are very reasonable at $10 for 3 hours. Interesting variety of beers as well, definitely coming back again soon
Good game selection. Very fun evening. Staff were friendly, but maybe they were understaffed (packed place!), because it took us asking several times about our waiting list spot, getting a table, to resolve these things and they seemed a bit annoyed at us even though it was their lack of communication
Really liked the vibes of the place. Would advice you to book in advance as it is pretty packed, especially on weekends. The lady helped us figure out the rules even after her shift was over. Totally enjoyed it!
Wont let you in the door without proof of two vaccine doses. Not just one but two. COVID vaccine mandates have been over for months, nobody carries vaccine cards around anymore. Im vaccinated + boosted and this is still a ridiculous thing to ask. Vaccine cards havent been relevant in over six months.
They have just about every board game you could want and its a pretty cheap way to have fun for a few hours. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Awesome board game cafe. Huge selection of classics and more obscure games. $5 per person for unlimited game play. Menu of coffee, smoothies, and other snacks. Free wifi as well, which makes it easy to find game instruction videos on a phone. Other players are pretty understanding if your group gets loud periodically while playing a heated game :) Private bathroom is also available to customers.
Very cool concept: for $5 per person, you can play your pick from hundreds of board games. You can also buy games. A great way to spend a few hours, and you can tell the patrons are enjoying themselves tremendously.

Great place to hang out with a small group of friends. They charge around $10 for 3 hours and have a variety of games. The staff helps you out to pick out games too. You can never get bored here. Their hot chocolate is great too.
Back when I lived in NYC, I used to love The Uncommons, so I made a point of visiting the shop and spending some money this past weekend when I was visiting family. What I got was the epitome of the FLGS experience: one of the staff spent about 15 minutes running down some of my favorite game mechanics before suggesting Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile, a game already very much on my radar. As I was checking out, the rest of the staff (quickly) shared their own stories with the game, letting me know that I was in for a great time. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable - these are the reasons you shop local, even if local means half-a-continent away.
Adorable and so fun! $10 per person gets you 3 hours of gameplay, though they do run student discounts during off-peak days. They have ample game selection and some available for purchase as well. They offer coffees which looked great and cans of craft beers and ciders as well! The staff was so kind and did a great job! We put our name on the wait list and they were upfront that it may take 15 min to get seated, or three hours -- it ended up only being 45 minutes, and there are plenty of bars and spots to grab a bite while you wait. I would definitely recommend this place if youre looking to go out with friends but dont want to do a bar/restaurant.
Really friendly gaming store in the Village. Great place to stock up on supplies and games, and the owner and staff are eager to make recommendations. They have events for Magic and Keyforge, and food and drink options if you stay to rent a game and table and play with friends!
A lovely place to squeeze in with some friends and enjoy a little food and drink while playing board games. Only 5 bucks entry fee for weekdays. 10 on weekends. They do a great job creating a fun environment here. Friendly staff too. They look out for you and eager to help
A cozy board game coffee with a lot of games to choose from. They take reservations for tables, which is highly recommended. A wait without a reservation could take an hour. They also offer light food and coffee.
I love the concept but the employees there give off bad vibes and are passive aggressive. Wasn’t the only one who felt that way either. I’m no karen and still go here once in a while but I always leave with a bad taste in my mouth. Wish they would have nicer people.
My partner and I came in looking to extend our collection. The staff were super helpful despite us making it very difficult to find something we wanted! Cannot recommend enough, amazing selection.

Fun place and staff but some TCG products are over priced from msrp.Pushes some TCG games and over prices others cuz of market and not msrp.More they apply these business tactics, less i shall attend events
My local board game cafe! Whats not to love about here. Just wish there was more space/felt less cramped, like their Hex location on Broadway.
The cafe is great with unlimited collection of games. Although you might get little confused and think of what to play if you are visiting for the first time. Few games need the rules to be read and might consume a lot of time if you have no idea about the game. Better to come prepared and already search for the rules and games your are interested in playing so that you will not waste your time here.
They have an amazing selection of many of the latest releases open and ready to play. They are also willing to teach you how to play some titles. Theres also a wide range of games for sale. Weekday rate is $5 per person to play for one hour or $10 per person to play for three hours. Im not sure about the weekend or evening rate. If you want to be sure to get space to play, you must call ahead. Weekdays from open to late afternoon are pretty open but evenings and weekends get busy. I didnt try it but the smell of their cheese pizza made me hungry!
Great coffee shop for all things geekery from TCG and board games. They carry Pokémon, Magic, and Final Fantasy TCGs, as well as what looks like hundreds of board and Card games. A nice place for friends to chill in.
Finally got to visit - ie secured a table - today after multiple unsuccessful attempts; this place is always full. Simple, compact setting with several board games up for use as well as many others available for sale. Enjoyed Jaipur, an engaging two player game, for an hour for a cover charge of $5 per person. They also have a small F&B menu and the mango smoothie is worth a try.
Always a good time at the uncommons. They have an entire wall of games you can play, so its a great place to get to know some games before you commit to buying one. Def come on a weekday so its not as crowded. On the weekends the wait time could be up to an hour. They have a good selection of beers, drinks, and the coffee is pretty good. As for food, it seems like micro able types like pigs in a blanket or small personal pizza, but the mozzarepa is pretty addicting haha.

Super cute space to hang out with friends after class or work. I came to meet some friends late at night after work and the uncommons was open until 12am. The bathroom was pretty gross though; urine everywhere and it smelled terrible.
Stepped in here to get out of the rain for a bit. It was a great choice. The staff was friendly and we all had a good time. They have SO MANY games available to play. You pay per person and amount of time. We would definitely return.
Great place in a great location. Stumbled upon this place while reading an E-article. It is a great themed place where you can go and play board games. It is $10 per person for 2hrs of fun, all the games you can play. The workers were really nice.
Super fun time! It gets crowded and is a little cramped inside but its very popular so makes sense. Cider doughnuts were the best of any doughnut Ive ever had! Spiked cider was great. Lots of fun games, great selection and discovered some new ones.

Such a cute and unique cafe near NYU! Theres so many games to choose from and plenty of seating inside and outside. If youre looking for a snack/drink to order while youre there, I loved the pineapple smoothie!

This was our second time here on two separate trips to NYC, and both stops were made plenty of fun because of the widespread offerings for this boardgames cafe. At the time of our visit in June 2021, there was both indoor and outdoor seating available; however, there’s usually a waitlist for the indoors, so make sure to put your name down! It’s $10 / person cover charge for 3 hours of unlimited board games. Great value! Considering we stayed there the full amount of time, we were able to play 4 new board games: Llamas Unreleased, 10 minutes to Kill, and Stay Cool.There is a lot of Magic the Gathering themed decor, and even their coffee drinks are named along with the theme. I got the Simic Latte, which was mocha and peanut butter flavoring; the flavor was pleasant if you like sweeter coffee. There is also a bathroom available.
Pretty cool. $10 a person. $5 with NYU ID. Need to show vaxx papers to be allowed to play inside otherwise you need to sit outside. They sell cookies and tea and coffee among other things. Helpful staff. Hundreds of board games to choose from. An NYC gem.
Love this place! They have just about every board game youd ever want to play. Just wish the space was larger. Get there early to reserve a table.
This place is cool beyond belief! The Uncommons has wall-to-wall shelves filled with amazing tabletop boards games! 🧩 They have everything from chess ♟️ to Settlers of Catan. They also serve drinks at an affordable rate and the place is usually filled with students from nearby NYU. I wish they had more seating!

The uncommons is a great place for all types of board games. For $5 per person Mon-Thursday, or $10 on friday-sunday, you get access to all the games you can think of. They have drinks, pastries, but you cant bring outside food. They also sell trading cards, and they hold MTG and final fantasy card tournaments
If youre competitive and love boardgames this is just the place for you. Pay $5 and get hours and hours of fun from more than a 100 boardgames that are arranged along the west wall of the shop. Cant reach one? Holler to the guy whos always hovering around the front to help you get the boardgame down. My favorites so far have been Carcassonne (they have several versions), Dominion, Coup, Betrayal and Kombat Kittens (dont knock it till you try it).While youre having fun, indulge in the cafe on premises for some snacks (their personal pizzas are quite good) and some tea/coffee/smoothies!
The customer service is not good at all. They are passive aggressive, and kind of rude. Youre not allowed to do much, and you feel restricted and uncomfortable. It doesnt feel like an enjoyable experience because theres not much that we are allowed to do to enjoy ourselves. We couldnt take off our masks to quickly eat, and when we did pull it down to drink some coffee, it felt so uncomfortable. It wasnt welcoming or nice. The board game selection is decent but you cant even look at them closely to see how to play because of Covid. Yes, I understand the restrictions since they want to keep people and themselves safe , but the tables should be socially distanced so we can at least enjoy some food or feel comfortable enough to enjoy the experience. Its not worth it. You pay $20 just to sit there uncomfortably as you play a game. Id rather buy the game and play somewhere else.
Soooo good! If you love board games, you love The Uncommons. If you’re unsure about which game to buy/play, the staff always help out with suggestions. This place is a gem!

If youre deciding between getting the 1hr for $5 or 3hrs for $10, GET THE 3HRS!! I made the mistake the first time and wasnt able to extend my stay due to having a waitlist. This place is addictive!

Omg I cannot day how much I love this place and the concept in general! It’s a great atmosphere with hundreds of different types of games! I personally love board games and always want to try new ones, and this is the place for that! You can rent a table for $5 per person for however long you want (I think it might be a bit different during the busy days though). It’s family friendly but also great for adults too. They do sell alcohol there along with coffee and some cafe like foods. They have an entire wall of games and they also sell new games, if you end up loving a game so much that you wanted buy it. The staff is awesome! They are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about many of the games’ rules. The only thing I don’t exactly like about this place is that it’s kinda small and can’t hold a lot of people. This can be problematic as it quickly fills up and can get cramped. The tables are first come first server. They do have reservations for the tables but it has to be for large groups and they need to be done in advance.

This place is a board games lovers haven. Its quaint with lively atmosphere. The workers are attentive and helpful. Endless selection of games to choose from, and some are available for purchase. The food variety is limited; mostly pastry and mini pizzas. I hope they improve on the food, as the gaming can go on for hours and folks will want to eat. My friends and I were there for a three hour block of time and we were quite hungry. Apart from that its a fun way to spend time with friends/family.
Uncommons is a great place to play Magic. The players and the staff are both incredibly friendly. Ive been coming here since they opened in 2013.

Such a great place to go to play games you dont have space or money to own yourself. Their library has some really great options to play in store, as well as plenty to purchase and take home.

This place has a huge selection of board games that not even the employees working here have played them all. The employees are clever and have played and heard enough about the games you be able to give you a quick run down of the board games. Definitely a great place to visit if youre into board games and want to explore new options without committing to actually buying them. Theres plenty of space to play and can seat large parties of at least 6. They also cook, so food and snacks are available for purchase, we didnt buy anything but it did smell absolutely amazing!

Fun spot to drop by for some beer and boardgames with friends!! I recommend you go early, because the wait list gets very long in the afternoon, so its really a one-shot and done spot.If your friends join you later, theyll be paying for less time (3 hour reservations) so best to all arrive together!P.S. If you want an easy and fun game, go for exploding kittens!
I come here most Thursdays for MTG Commander night, and although there are nerds aplenty, its nothing but good vibes and board games. Its a great date spot, and a haven for a bunch of the NYU kids.

Solid little board game club. The prices are very reasonable (I paid $10 for 3 hours) and the drink selection is nice, good variety of coffees and some beer. However, the space is small and can fill up if there are people lingering - can make the experience feel cramped at times.
I love this place! Great for hanging out with friends. I usually don’t play a lot of board games or any games at all, but it’s was fun. It’s funny to see that we get very serious in board games. But that happened to all the table I saw. Me and my friends made a reservation and it’s $15per person for 3 hours and that’s not bad! I love to make more reservation in the future and make the hours longer.
They have almost every board game imaginable. As of this review, the prices for using their games are $5 for an hour, $10 for three hours, completely reasonable given the selection they have available. Early in the morning on a Saturday it was very quiet and a great experience with not too many people around. If you have any interest in board games, I highly recommend you go and try it some new titles!!
I love the idea of The Uncommons where you can come to play board games with your friends. Its interesting to try new games that you might not have purchased otherwise.It gets busy during the weekends and sometimes on weekdays, large groups reserve tables so theres less seating. Theres free wifi and the last time I went I saw a sign that said students get a small discount. They also have snacks and drinks, but water is free of charge. Some board games have clearly been loved and used, so they might be missing a few pieces or look tattered, but the uncommons typically has more than one box for people to use.

Legit one of the cutest, intimate spots to go on a simple coffee date. Have a coffee, tea, beer (they have Delirium guys), or even apple juice while renting a table for only $10 per person (for 3 hrs) and playing some of your favorite boardgames or card games like monopoly, uno, battle ship, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and others. This board game cafe is one of my happy places. It was one of the first places in nyc with tables for rent and all the strategy games you could want to play. Head in alone for a cup of coffee and a solo game or bring your friends for drinks and a fun night of strategy!
I came here with some friends to try out a boardgame or two. The staff was friendly and helpful in finding us a game to play. They have a huge selection of games, which is excellent. Tables are $5 per person for the first hour and $10 for all day. And you can just upgrade if you need more time, which is very reasonable. Food is pretty simple fair, and considering its in the middle of Manhattan, reasonably priced. The place itself is kind of tight, but once you start rolling dice the size of the place hardly matters. There is only one small bathroom that seemed clean enough.I had a wonderful time, I plan on returning and I would recommend this place if youre interested in playing games. I would NOT recommend if you want a quiet place to have a cup of coffee: go to a cafe if you want that.
A favorite spot of mine. Its a great way to try out new board games and get a feel for them before buying, or to just enjoy. It can get very crowded at peak times. Coffee is good, Ive never had the food. The staff are all good at recommending stuff because it can be overwhelming choosing a game. Good for friend groups of 3-5
I expected more MTG, but there was only the default stuff. Boosters (nothing really special), playmats, dice and cases. Nice store overall, very friendly and helpful staff, lots of players and people willing to teach you. Nice atmosphere. Typical modern game store. They actually arranged the games to make it easier to find 2 player games or coop games. Those are our favourites, so that was convenient.
Place is awesome. Great place to play multiple board games and they have a huge variety. Just make sure to come inside to reserve a spot cause it could take an hour or two for a table to pop up depending on your group size. But even if you have to wait they will take your number and text you when your table is ready. They are also open late and you can order beer coffee or other goodies. If you do have to wait an hour or longer there are multiple bars on the area to hang out in.

I run a monthly event at the Uncommons, and it is always a good experience. The walls are literally lined with games, serving as both decoration and a huge library to choose what you’d like to play from. Whether you enjoy card games, board games, role playing games, or any type of game you can play in a table top, they’ve got something for you. They have the games you’re familiar with along with many, many, many games you probably aren’t. Add to all of that the friendly and accommodating customer service, affordable snacks and drinks, and the generally positive vibe of the place, and you’ve got a fantastic venue where it would be a genuine challenge not to enjoy yourself.
Prices are usually similar to Amazon, if they are higher its only by a few bucks. Highly recommend coming here. The environment is always amazing, the staff cares.For sitting in and playing they offer fantastic drinks and their prices for just chilling and playing games are great for the area. I came on a weekend, it was $10 for 3 hours of play, per person OR $5 for one hour of play, per person--that isnt bad at all since you get to pick from a huge load of games. Its great if you wanna test out a game before actually buying it. They also sell brand new games in case you wanted to buy any.They do have some food and drink options, but nothing too big--i mean, you are there to play a game after all. So the food options are more like snacks or small appetizers. Week days are cheaper, $5 per person. Not sure for how many hours yet, but I plan on finding out.We were seated quite fast, too. You can reserve a table, but im also not so sure how to do that yet. They also have some type of event calendar at the front register. Great place to just hang out with friends or family and play a board game.A plus about this place is that they smell good-- like food and coffee. Not like other places where it smells like sweaty men that havent showered for a week.
I started playing board games thanks to my husband, and thanks to him I was introduced to this amazing place. The time spent there was probably one of the best times spent out in the city. Its a genius idea to make a board game cafe, where you can play unlimited number of games for unlimited number of time with almost unlimited number of friends, sipping some coffee or tea or juice. They also serve food. I think we spend four or five hours there, and the time passed by so fast and with so much fun! I wish they had a bigger place or several locations, because if you want to find a seat you should come in early, otherwise the whole place will be full.Oh, and they make the best Mocha in the city ( Starbucks is nothing compared to this one)
Stopped in tonight out of the rain. Cool spot and nice staff. I loved the selection of games. I was solo tonight and enjoyed a few minutes of a game I have never played. My only only warning to anyone interested, is that the food is not the reason to stop in. Come for the board games, stay for the board games. I will be back again when I am in NY.
Cute place to come hang out with your friends if you dont have the space elsewhere to do it, or if you dont have the board game you want to play.Space is really cramped, so you cant walk around much, but fine once youre seated.Reservation is $10pp on the weekend and $5 weekdays. You can stay as long as you want and they also take reservations. Theres food and a coffee bar. Really nice employees and super helpful.
The Uncommons is a cozy little cafe that has over a hundred games to enjoy there and hundreds more available for purchase. Friendly staff, clearly interested in the hobby as well. The food and drink selections were also better than expected. Id highly recommend for anyone who enjoys board games and has a free afternoon or evening.
The most board games Ive seen in one location - you pay $5 per person for a seat or $10 on weekends. They have some food and drink options which are pretty ordinary but its a great place to come play some board games with friends. If you want to try a bigger game maybe read the instructions online before you come to save a bit of time!
Amazing selection of board games! The wait isnt too bad. If you let them know your party size, they will put your name down and call you when a table is ready. and then your options for paying are $5 for an hour or $10 for 3. The wait may be longer if your group is bigger.

There maybe a wait when you get there but it’s so worth it. They have tons of games for sale and for play. It’s $10 per person and you can play as long as you want. They also make really good food - just small things to nibble on while you play but it’s tasty. Their grudges are stocked with both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. The staff are friendly and it’s a great atmosphere.

This is a really great place, super fun with unlimited board games there until they close at like 1 or 2am! We went twice, its much busier in the evening but if they cant seat you straight away theyll take your number and call you when a table is ready, we waited about 30 mins the first time and not at all the second time (in the day).They also sell some board games (which we ended up taking advantage of)! The food is cafe style food but was really tasty and good for dinner anyway.

Make sure you make reservations because it is packed, especially on weekends.Some of the games are heavily used so be prepared to lookup rules on the internet.Most of the food is of the snack variety so either eat before or after, plenty of great spots in the neighborhood. Great cafe with a lot of board games. $5 cover on weekdays, and $10 on weekends! Played Settlers of Catan and Red Flag. Highly recommend those games very fun to play in groups. The games are a little dusty and old though, dont expect brand new games every time.
Fun cafe for friends to gather to play board games. They have pretty much any game you would ever want to play here. Just a warning, if you want to play during the busy times (weekends and holidays), make a reservation otherwise you may end up waiting for ~1 hour for a table.
Great service and inventory. Small space, but doesnt feel claustrophobic. Sometimes game cafes can cater to one demographic of gamer more than another, but this place had all types of people. All in all, a great place to go if youre a seasoned player, or just dipping your toes.
One of my absolute favorite spots to go in the city. The sitting fee is cheap and they have so many games to choose from. Not too many food options but what they have is all right. Ive spent many hours here with friends and recommend everyone do so as well
Love this place!!! Rent a table and play as many board or card games as you like.. And they have loads and loads to choose from. They also do great coffee and other drinks.. Plus got and cold food but we only had ice cream sandwiches so cant comment on anything else but they were great. The place its self is not massive bit they do have two rooms with lots of tables. They are very popular though so be warned they may be full.Its not the best with regards to accessibility but I managed on crutches to get about. I wouldnt like to try my wheelchair but the staff were so helpful they would probably find a way to accommodate a wheelchair.
I cant speak to the food because my husband and I stopped here shortly after breakfast at the beginning of a full day of exploring the City. However, this was the perfect place to spend an hour while we waited for more places to open up. The selection of games to play was excellent (we could easily have spent several hours there if we hadnt already had plans elsewhere) and the whole atmosphere is nice and relaxed.
Many options of games, it can get very warm in there, but honestly its better then the cold. Very chill atmosphere and helpful staff. If you have questions on the games, their events, or anything at all! We stayed the full 3 hrs and wanted to stay more.
The game selection is deep and wide, love it all. The bathroom is also surprisingly cozy and the sink puts out warm water very quickly. The staff are professional and the quarters are cramped and close, but welcoming. Come to play, stay for the play.
Delicious coffee and awesome atmosphere. I had an iced latte, and they have pretty much every board game ever made available for play. The coffee came out fast. The games all seemed in good condition.
The Uncommons is great place to come with friends and play board games with. The place is riddled with games everywhere harboring quite the collection, unfortunately no outside drinks are permitted and their entry fee has changed from 5 dollars for unlimited play to 10 dollars for 3 hours of play on the weekends. The Uncommons use to be a no brainer if you wanted to have some fun but now it’s more of a place to visit occasionally and play games, I do highly recommend the experience and location.
Its great place if you like to play board games but dont want to buy any (because you apartment is too small...). You pay $5 and then you can play with any of their huge selection of board games for as long as you want. The food and drinks are not sophisticated (coffee, pastries, soups, soft drinks...), but pretty cheap.I would definitely go back to play there some more!

Overall I had a good time but it was for the simple fact that I was with my friends. The place itself is worn down, hot because of the summer and there was minimal air conditioning, and the people at the bar/front desk were passive aggressive and I didn’t appreciate the witty remarks.The Uncommon has a special for students where you can play games all day for half off. I will be starting college next year and I have not yet received a student ID. After all 5 of my friends I was with showed their ID, I showed my State ID.The person behind the counter said that won’t work and that I need to show my Student ID. I told him to just look at the date of birth to verify that I am a student. The story could have ended there. Ok no student ID, fine I understand but then I hear from behind the cashier “what kind of student ... a student of life”. There was absolutely no need for that.I would have turned around and walked away but since I was with friends, I just payed full price and went on to play the games.The sitting area was very cramped.This review won’t outweigh the other 800+ reviews but this was just my experience. Be warned.
They have a great selection of games although some are quite worn. It is cramped inside, the side room gets really loud, you need to jump over people to get out of your seat, theres only one bathroom, and you need to wait 1+ hour during busy times (weekends). They dont really give accurate times. The 2 times I went without a reservation, once it took about an hour and a half and once about 20 minutes even though both were quoted as an hour. Its $15 per person for 3 hours to reserve, $10 weekends, $5 weekdays. With a large party, it gets pricey. Reservations must be made the day before with a 100% nonrefundable deposit. You cannot bring food or drinks inside, and food selection is limited with stale pastries. The croissant tasted dusty and from a grocery store. Drinks are pretty good.
Great alternative to a bar if you have friends that dont drink. Brings back memories with all the old games. They have every game you could ever want to play here. Its only $5 a person or $10 on the weekends, it can get crowded and quite loud so its hard to play some games. Its a great place to try out a game before you buy it but I think its the same if you and a few friends just chip in to buy the game and hang out at a friends house. However I dont think I could sit here for hours playing games, it was a bit stuffy. On the flip side, you pay the one fee and you could literally sit and play all day hence the long wait times.
The front desk staff was friendly and the wait wasnt too bad for a Sunday afternoon, but the game we picked (Ticket to Ride) was ancient, falling apart, had missing pieces and had no game manual. When we asked a staff to explain the rules, he started to explain but stopped to chat with someone who had just entered the cafe, then abruptly left us without finishing.
Im a great fan of board game cafes and try to visit them every time I travel. This is listed as New Yorks first board game cafe, a while it is ok, it is quite small. The game selection is great, but the tables are very close together so we got bumped a couple of times moving pieces around. But still a great place and I wish them luck.
Cramped, expensive, crowded and pushy staff. Still, a wide selection of games, and sort of an interesting place to hang out. Lots of clubs run out of here, so you may get stuck coming here a lot if you play tabletop games in NYC.
A little bit crammed but also packed with games. Theres a play room where you can sit and play a boatload of games but you need to book a table in advance and the waiting could be several minutes, so be prepared for that. Nice thing is that you can leave your name and number and theyll give you a call when its your turn.
Cool place. Maybe Ive never looked but Ive never been to a place like this before. Small coffee shop with great pastries but awesome game room where you pay only $5 and can play any of the games they have in their huge collection all day long. Great fun to be had here. Staff was great the people were fun. I love going here!

Seriously good time playing old childhood games like Guess Who and newer ones like What Do You Meme? Although they just opened recently, theres already a sizeable library of games (ranging anywhere from playing cards to scrabble to euro games to MTG). The cafe is very spacious (it can probably seat 40 people) and the tables are big enough to accommodate most 6-to-8-player tabletop games. The price for foods, drinks, and games are reasonable - most drinks are around $3 or less, and game rental is $5 per person per day (no time or game limit). They do offer membership where you can pay a one-time fee to waive the rental fee for 6 months, but the math only works out if you frequent the place on a very regular basis (4-5 times a month). Overall, I really enjoy the friendly and laid back vibe here (staffs here are very nice and many seem to be gamers themselves). Great spot for weekend afternoon board game session with a small group of friends.Tip: free wifi here. Just ask for the password.
I’ve been here 2-3 times now with friends. With a parties of 4-7 people. It’s always packed, so make sure you book tables before hand. It costs around $15/person for 3 hours. I’ve always had fun coming here, we played everything from pandemic to werewolf.If you are new to board games, PLEASE ask the lovely people at Uncommons, they’re more than happy to help you out. They’ve got a lot of games and there’s always something for somebody. After all, humans have been playing games for thousands of years for a reason :)
Not a bad place. Kinda small, but nice place to play games with friends. I have hearing problems, so the place was loud for me, because we were seating next to a group of 10 year olds. I mean, those kids got STUPID LOUD. But it is a nice place to spend time with friends. They have cool and interesting beers.
Stumbled across this place while wandering round looking for somewhere to grab a drink. What a fantastic place. Loads of games to play and to buy. Staff are dead friendly and the drinks were very resonably priced. Picked up an expansion pack for Cards against Humanity while I was there. Would absolutely be one of my regular haunts if I lived there, but will definitely call in again next time Im over.
If you live in NYC space is very limited. This is a great place to relax and have fun with friends. Prices are reasonable and the amount of board games to try are unimaginably endless. Love this place. I only wish I could pay for 6 hours at time vs 1 or 3 hour for game time.
Delicious full flavored coffee and the place is filled with board games to play. Does it get much better than Coffee and games? It does as its only a block from Washington Square Park so you can get your coffee to go after a fun day of playing games and you can enjoy one of the best city parks in the country!!
Went to Uncommons for a lazy Sunday afternoon Magic prerelease. The store regulars are super friendly, while still presenting decent competition, and you can play games while enjoying the many tasty cafe drinks and eat-ables.While small* the store doesnt feel cramped, and the music they play in the background can save your cellphone some battery life.(*read: 12-24 players, which feels normal for NYC).
An amazing place to hang out with your friends and play MTG also play in serious tournaments. Although some food is a little over price it is delicious! especially the chicken strips. It can always be a great place to find new friends to play board games with their wide selection of games you can play almost anything. This is a great opportunity to play unlimited games for only 5$ a great way to make new friends and have fun with them.

Definitely a great concept- the only problem is the wait is too long for a table. However, at least the staff are very nice about it. So you are walking around this quiet area of wherever the heck this was in Manhattan. You go into this place and it is full of board games and is a nice cafe. What also stuck out was they had this massive poster that was the big sheet that Magic cards are cut from. This place is cool.
This is my favorite place in New York City. Its great for dates, because the games provide you with a shared activity and conversation topic. Its a simple premise executed perfectly. If you like board games youll love it. If you dont, youll probably hate it. Just be sure to arrive early, or all the tables will be full.
Crowded noisy but great. More than a shop where buy boardgames is a bar where you can play almost every interesting boardgame in the market. The only bad side are the peasants playing the settlers of catan. Despite this, enjoy the place.

Huge game selection, helpful and kind staff. Often a bit crowded, but it works out. If they are full, you may need to give them your number and youll get a call if something opens up. So if youre coming from a different part of town, have a backup thing to do in case you need to wait.Oh, and check their calendar. I think if there are multiple tournaments happening, they may close the space to other customers
The absolute coolest board game spot. They have everything to choose from with a knowledgeable and friendly staff and excellent taste in video game music. For any board game junkies this spot is a must go!
Excellent place at a reasonable price. Had great fun playing Monopoly. The space is a little crammed but that just adds to the fun. Definitely a must visit with your friends for fun game time.
Warning: crowded with a wait. Smallish cafe - HUGE BOARD GAME COLLECTION. For a grand total of $5 you can basically spend your entire day there playing any of their board games (from Monopoly to Settlers of Catan to Ticket to Ride to Chinese checkers) with your friends. Otherwise, its just a little slightly grungy cafe with decent hours, food, and drink options.

Wish the space was bigger! This is the place to go to try any board game youve ever heard of. Its simply great! But sometimes its just too crowded. The food and drink offerings are nice. Overall its a fun place to go to play games for hours on end (for just $5).
Classic board game shop. Good variety of games to borrow and play there, and smaller set of games for sale. They also host events for Magic and other collectable games. Main downsides are that its quite cramped when busy and prices for tables on weekends are pretty high (youre quickly better off buying a game outright).
My friends & I have been going to the Uncommons for the last 3 years. We began attending for the Meetup group and quickly fell in love with the atmosphere, staff, & game selection. The staff used to be very engaging, knowledgeable, & friendly.However recently the staff has become extremely rude. Over the past year, I cannot recall a single time that the staff members were not disrespectful. This is especially true of one of the managers, a woman with a blue streak in her hair who has been extremely rude and condescending to my friend group.The venue used to be a place where you could come as a walk in, find a table, & have fun playing boardgames for hours. Now whenever we go to the Uncommons, we have a long wait to receive a table even if there are open tables visible throughout the store. We would love to make a reservation but unfortunately those are only available to large parties (who often do not even show up).I am frustrated with the Uncommons and wish it could return to the gem it once was. This place has become an unfun, toxic environment, and I am looking for better places to spend my time.

Been here only once. Its a small venue and usally crowded. Prices for rental games are great. Tons of board and card games. Friendly staff. Weekdays are best. Tea coffee and snacks are available for purchase. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

There are people to help you pick out a game or if you have any questions.They also sell boardgames should you want one to take home.From Cards Against Humanity, Exploding Kittens, Magic, Munchkin, to Risk, Diplomacy, Clue, checkers and assorted quiz games, I have never seen so many boardgames in one place to play.You can have larger groups but it can get very crowded on weekend afternoons because it only has two small rooms.This is a worthy replacement for The Village Chess Shop that was here on this spot for decades (although there is still a chess shop across the street).
Although the place recently opened, the cafe has numerous board and card games to choose from, many of which I had never heard of before! The essential games like Uno, Stratego, and Monopoly are available as are new games to give a try all for a price of $5 per person. The staff was very friendly, even checking in on what games we choose. There are ample drinks and snacks to enjoy, including coffee, lattes, hot apple cider (which was delicious!), as well as coke products and candy bars. I would definitely recommend this place to pass a Sunday afternoon with a small group of friends.

The uncommons is a very cozy board game cafe. I had the opportunity to go there for a meetup and meet many new people and play Cards Against Humanity. They have finger food and a great collection of games.Another nice thing about it is its location which is right next to many pubs and bars. So If you like a night out but also like board games then you should definitely consider the uncommons as one of your stops before you get to the heavier drinking!
I liked it. We picked up a few 2 player games for the hotel after exhaustion set in. The staff were cool and helpful, very knowledgeable and attentive. A gathering of geekery for like-minded folks. If I lived in NYC Id be here a lot!
I did think this place was awesome so I was giving it my business rather than the many other coffee places in the area, but Im sorry to say that my most recent visit will be the last time. I ordered a coffee and bought some chips. As they are pouring the coffee they tell me its to go only and asks me if its okay, as if I had another choice because they already prepared my drink. The store had a lot of space left over for playing games. I sheepishly said yes and quickly left, but it was quite rude to shoo out your customer because you didnt upsell them on playing a game (nor did they even ask if I was there to play a game). I dont like that they treated a paying customer like they had the cooties. If you want to sit there for 15 minutes enjoying the product you purchased from them, this isnt the place because they may tell you that your purchase is to go. I left feeling very unwelcome in the space and wont return.

Snack bar and atmosphere leaves you desiring a better experience. A bagel-sized cheese pizza will run you $4.5 and a crushed ice+mango syrup fruit smoothie costs $6. yikes. We were there during a sordid heat wave and the A/C didnt reach our window seats (the A/C is above the entrance door). There were ceiling fans but there were moving so slowly that they might as well have been decorative.Tons of board games but games that get a lot of play time will have missing / broken pieces
$10 for 3 hours, $5 for one hour. Alcohol served after noon. Great collection of games and a staff that is knowledgeable about games and friendly! Comfortable seating. Just a fun place generally!
This place has a fantastic selection of board, card, and dice games for sale and for playing in the store. 5 bucks per person gets you a table til close (on weekdays, 10 on weekends). They have beer, coffee, tea, light pastries, and chips for ones snack and drink needs.Also worth noting, the folks behind the counter when I visited were pleasant and funny.
Overall cool idea, but the space is so cramped inside! I know its NYC, but if Im paying $5 or $10 per person for a cover charge, I want to not be squished in inches from a radiator. The guy running the register was also not very welcoming when we got there and made me actively want to leave when our time was up. Its a fine place to visit, just be aware of what you might be getting yourself into if you dont book a table ahead of time.

One of my favorite places to meet with friends! Just a $5 fee and you can use any of their board/card/tabletop games. You can even buy cafe drinks or get some small food here as well. I usually spend a few hours at The Uncommons - more than worth the price!
You can spend hours and hours on end here and have a great time. There are TONS of games, food, snacks, and drinks. The staff is friendly also. If you check in on Foursquare you save money on your bill (as of February 2014), and you can play unlimited games for $5 per person. I will definitely return over and over.
Where else but the Uncommons can you get in on a pick-up game of Shadows Over Camelot? If youre more of a casual gamer, dont worry - classics are available alongside more recent favorites like Cards Against Humanity. The game selection is serious here. If they dont have it, they probably will. Expansions, too. Wednesday night is best because theres a meetup, but reservations through Meetup are recommended as a concurrent D&D night commands a lot of space concurrently. The food is good, cheap gamer food. (I like the tenders or Mozzarepa) and you can really pick your poison - coffee, beer, wine, and lots of fancy sodas (and dew, of course) are available to keep you gaming into the evening. They also sell games, dice, and a whole slew of accessories to help you get your nerd on!
Literally bursting with board games, but always packed. Get there early and have some snacks with friends while you play a nearly uncountable number of games.They did a New Years celebration last year and I had a blast with a few friends--and a free flute of champagne!
Good food (for a board game shop) and really helpful and friendly workers. A fairly broad selection of board games ranging from simple childrens games to fun party games to complex board games to challenging co-op games. Would visit again next time Im in NYC.
Smallish coffee shop with tons of board games. About $10 pp for entry but well worth it. You can easily spend 4+ hours here trying out the different board (and most people do judging by the wait!) Would definately recommend getting here early as there is always a wait past noon on the weekends
This is a board game cafe with tons of the best board games. The staff was so helpful to find a good table for us and recommended board games based on our taste and even briefed some games for us. One more reason for me to frequent the west village neighborhood
Manhattans only board game cafe amidst the happenings of east village and greenwich village, this little place offers a great variety of games with light eats. We were 7 people but still got lucky to find a table.I had hot chocolate that was good plus $10 an hour per person doesnt hurt.We would definitely visit again.
The Uncommon is the only game cafe of its type in Manhattan. Theres plenty of board games to pick from and I havent really had to wait on a table. That being said, there are some drawbacks.They offer food and drink, even beer, but the choices are few and expensive. Food is frozen stuff, like hot pockets, that is just warmed in the microwave. Dont expect even street vendor quantity eats.Being Manhattan, the venue is small and the tables arent up to the task of containing some of the larger board games. Case in point, me and a few friends went to throw down some Twilight Imperium one Saturday. Between the four of us and the large game, we had to push together two tables to have enough space. After paying $10 a piece to play all day, we were told 2 hours later that we would either need to give up the table at 2pm for other guests or pay double. The logic behind this request was that by taking up two tables we were depriving the business of other potential customers. The argument fails to hold up though as groups of 2 were monopolizing tables that could seat 4, so the case can be made that they too should be forced to pay double to make up for the 2 potential customers who could use that table. We ended up paying double; we were already 2 hours in a highly complex game. In all I think we dropped over $150 just to game and snack from 10 am to 5 pm.So, just for a night out with a couple is fine. Eat before you go, and just pay a few bucks to have a game date night. Serious board gamers should consider their needs and determine if their game is compatible with small tables and small space.
Fairly small, but wonderful place for a fun night of boardgames of a variety of types. They also have Magic and D&D weekly during scheduled times, though Ive never participated personally.
Has tons of board games and you can spend hours playing them. It is difficult to play games which require an extensive layout because of less space. It gets really warm inside. I could spend almost 2 hours because I was engrossed in the game.
Dont know who came up with the idea of a cafe where you can play board games but I want to shake his hand. This is one of if not the my favorite place in the city now. You come in, pay $5 and play as many games as you want the whole day. Number of games is huge. From Catan to small worldand a bunch of others Ive never heard of. Im not even mentioning basic one like chess and monopoly. Oh and by the way their coffee is better than Starbucks. You can come with friends and part together or come alone and plat with people already there. I cant wait to go there again.
This is an incredible concept and the selection here is one of the best collections that Ive ever seen, but I wish they just made some type of food or drink purchase necessary vs. paying an hourly rate.They also have a great drink menu with a wide variety of choices all of which are very tasty too.
There isn’t anything negative really to say about the place; unless you don’t like board games. $5/pp/hr or $10/3hr of gameplay. Cheap wine, beer, bubbly...coffee, tea, kambucha etc..for the DD’s. Hundreds of options for games to play and buy tandem with an atmosphere that is reminiscent of a much simpler time in life when chillin’ with friends face to face, and having actual conversation was a thing. This is a walk into “way back when” no matter your age.

Yesterday I visited the Uncommons for the first time in months. A once favorite location for our weekly gaming group, its slipped to the bottom of our list in recent months. What happened to this incredible space? Staff is rude, the wait is ridiculous, and the amazing atmosphere of the space has been completely polluted.When my boyfriend & I first visited the uncommons, the cordial, friendly staff set us right at home, always willing to recommend and teach a game, and sometimes even play it with us if we needed a third (or, as we expanded our group, a forth, fifth, or sixth). OK, they didnt have air conditioning & sometimes the store would be overpacked & miserably overheated. But we kept going back week after week.Sometime in the past year, things changed. Staff turned over, and new hires stick up their nose at actually helping customers. Yesterday, after putting my name on a wait list (a move widely regarded as a waste from my friend group-- I have been on perhaps dozens of these things and have never, not once, received a call. Maybe theyre hoping Ill leave?) I noticed a smattering of empty tables in the side and front rooms. They were reserved, we were told, and not kindly. Okay, sure. After some finagling (begging for an empty table they, of course, failed to call me about) we were situated. The tables in the front slowly filled, but the side room remained half-empty. Happy to have a table, but somewhat cramped for the elaborate, sprawling games we favor, we decided to play a smaller game and see if a table opened up. An hour passed. The large, empty tables beckoned invitingly. But polite inquiries were shut down by the staff. Oh and by the way, these tables remained empty until close.This isnt a one time thing, this isnt a case of an angry manager or a bad day or a particularly flaky group reservation. This is our experience time after time after time. Forget asking for a recommendation or game instructions-- its good enough when the staff can manage a basic interaction without a nasty response.To the Uncommons management: what are you doing?? You have an amazing selection. You have an incredible location. You had, at one point, a terrific and knowledgeable staff. But every time I come to the store I am told in no uncertain terms that my patronage doesnt matter. Maybe it doesnt. All I know is that I have to beg and wheedle my group to get then through the door of your establishment. This is a review coming from a bewildered place of love. Please fix your store!
If you need a cozy place to screw around on the cheap for a few hours in the village, you could do a lot worse than the uncommons. the atmosphere is not unlike something out of harry potter, a tiny building with esoteric board games stacked to the ceiling. get a few drinks and indulge your dork side
Do NOT buy board games here. Unknowledgeable and unfriendly staff. Wouldnt let us sit and try the game after we already purchased a game - said wed have to pay even more money to do so. They were closing out for an event in 30 minutes anyway; they gave us the OK to stay 30 mins and then changed their mind and kicked us out! Go to Forbidden Planet instead for cheaper games and better staff.
Lovely atmosphere, lots of games, helpful staff.BUTcame in just for a game listed on the website but they never even seen it beforefood was overpriced which I didnt mind but if youre gonna charge $7 dollars for mozzarella sticks AT LEAST get the good microwaveble kind
A friend visited from France and was really excited to come here. We sat at a table and were shouted out of the store (literally). Apparently tables must be reserved in advance. We apologized immediately, but this didnt stop the shouting.Im still shaken.
Really, really awesome little quaint little shop with literally hundreds, if not thousands of games to play. Lots to choose from and the employees know games well enough to give good recommendations. Easy to lose track of time and spend an entire afternoon there.
Very nice little hangout. So many games to choose from, $5 per player to rent the game. They also have game to purchase. Fun night. Its a little small and cramped inside but pretty cozy nonetheless.
This place is pretty cool. I was invited here a few times and it was a blast! However, its a bit too crowded for me. Not for the claustrophobic...
We came here for a pre-release for MTG m20 with a group of friends. It was our first time, although the drinks were good, the service of the event itself was horrible. Not only did they not honor the prize pool when we all got 2-2. 2 WINS and 2 losses, but they were very tardy with each round. They extended a good 20 mins for the 3rd round and because they were technically closed at 1:30am, they rushed our last round and many had incomplete for their last record.My friends and I will not be returning to this place for any future pre-release due to poor execution of event hosting and also dishonorable prize pool to their customers.
Great place, great staff. At scheduled game events you will meet great gamers dedicated to their game community. The mix of casual and community gamers makes for good atmosphere. Location is fantastic.

2022-06-07Absolutely love the concept of a board game cafe and glad one is located downtown.Unlimited 3 hr board game play for $10/person. Great for groups of 2 or more people.Both alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages available. Somewhat limited options for alcohol in their fridge but the craft ciders and beers are super tasty. Coffee, tea and smoothies are also available. Light snacks for sale such as candies and baked goods but I would go there expecting to get a meal.One con of this place was the space itself. It is somewhat small but they do make maximal use of the space. There is both the main room and a back side room. The lighting in the back room makes it feel like a grungy basement and preferred the main room. Tables themselves are large for game play but somewhat squished together.Overall I had a great time hanging out with a friend while playing board games. A perfect way to spend a Sunday evening.

2022-03-26This was an interesting concept and I was intrigued to give it a try. It’s $8 for students or $10 for everyone else to play board games for 3 hours. Great for a larger group 3-4+ people.The two games we did play the pieces felt very grimey and were worn down.

2022-07-14Parker! Was! Amazing! And her make up 🔥! She gave me the best customer service ever! And she was very well versed in most of the tcg and board games in the store! Even gave me insight on the events they host throughout the week! All in all, amazing place with great drinks and games and even more amazing people willing to go the distance and offer the best service! Highly recommend even if you just wanna chill and play a board game. Dont forget your vacs card and ID tho.

There is such a variety of games and they have a good selection of beer (all cans).It is a good idea to make a reservation if you have more than 2 people because the space fills up fast. Its an extra $5 per person this way but imo worth it.It closes at 11 so keep it in mind when you are playing.

2022-02-05Pretty cool place, you pay $10 per person and get to play whatever games you want for 3 hours. I wouldn’t classify them as a “bar” though, because they have such limited alcohol options. It was pretty much just craft beer and cider. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of the vibes in there, had to keep mask on at all times.

2022-03-30MAKE ADVANCED RESERVATIONS!This place fills up fast but its so worth it. A place of community. I do recommend bringing your own games (or purchasing grub their INCREDIBLE collection) as the ones they have there are quite well loved. Lol! The staff are friendly and fun, the coffee is great, and the atmosphere is incomparable.
