Great local bar. They serve food too and theres tables if you dont want to eat at the bar. They have a jukebox and room to dance. They even have a pool table. The two bartenders Ive met there have been very friendly.

This is the local bar. It has cheap beer, pretty good food and a pool table. Cash only, but they have an ATM. I recommend the patty melt.

Its a dive. A fun one, at that.We pulled into the Castleton Boat Club to take our masts down before continuing up to Champlain. The gracious folk at the boat club dont serve dinner, and suggested we take a short walk up the hill.(Watch for trains at the crossing. They come in hot, and ready for mayhem. One person has already lost his life challenging one this year.)This is a good, old-school family bar and grill. (A Gin Mill, Tavern, Bucket O Blood, or what have you.) The bar food is cheap. and filling if youre hungry. It certainly wont get a Michelin star any time soon, but everything was fresh and tasty, and reasonably priced. Very good homemade slaw. The patrons are outrageous, funny, and sociable. The barmaid was a total hoot and a lovemuffin. Id come back just to see her. Folks were drinking beers and boilermakers (we stuck to Saranac root beer,) but we felt part of the family. The building is quite pretty, clean, and has an good view of the river. The soup of the day is always cream of mushroom.

Nice hometown watering hole with a frighteningly close view of the Empire Express Amtrak and the Hudson River. Parking is limited but the beers are cold and the service is spirited.
