The Whitby Hotel in New York
We are frequent visitors to New York City and this most recent trip we decided to stay at The Whitby. This hotel was the best we have ever stayed in. The staff were just lovely - each had an incredible sweet, friendly & accommodating nature. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and very artistic. Loved the vibe.We asked to move our room up a few floors for a better view & were graciously accommodated. In fact everything about The Whitby is gracious. Its a little oasis in one of the most busy & bustling cities in the world. This hotel was an incredible part of our experience. We know where well be staying from now on!
Came here for afternoon tea and it was great. The service and food were good. Some people in our group ordered the healthy tea it was nice but would for sure stick to the regular tea. Its nice to have that option but its really more geared towards people with food allergies. Love the decor of the lobby at the hotel too, that clock is very neat.
Came here for the afternoon high tea. The portion is huge. With 4 sandwiches, 2 scones and 4 different types of cakes. The sandwiches and scones were good. But some of the cake didnt taste that good and Im not sure if its worth how much you pay for. The atmosphere is really nice but it does get a bit noisy with everything talking loudly.
Just returned from a 4 day stay at the hotel. Happy to give it 5 stars. Very tastefully furnished. The breakfast every morning was great! The room was very large by Manhattan standards but what I really appreciated was that in spite of it being in the heart of Manhattan it was very quiet. No sounds from the other rooms either. The staff was excellent especially Todd Hunt, the concierge. He was most helpful and very professional.
Met a new friend there for a late afternoon snack and was pleasantly surprised. Great service even though it was packed, unexpectedly gorgeous dining room, cutest little teacups and eclectic menu to match ! Ended up munching on guacamole and tea. Planning to try their brunch and high tea in the skylight room! Stylish and relaxing place.
My friend and I met up at Whitby last Friday to celebrate both of our birthdays. I have the say the whole entire staff from hostesses, server and front desk staff were so accommodating, kind and thoughtful. The interior design and the art work were astonishing. Go Kemp! The Jazz band was such a treat. I loved it. Omg , the Whitby cocktail was probably the best gin and tonic drink I’ve ever had. My black squid pasta crab plate was so delicious, but the best part of the evening is when the server brought both of us happy birthday cupcakes on the pretties plates. It was so sweet because were not expecting it. I will definitely come back again for Tea time, I hear it’s nice.
Very posh and luxurious spaces. Great customer service. I loved their tea room. I also loved the complimentary bath soaps and sprays. The price per night is very high compared to other hotels that are nearly as nice without a designer price tag. The price is the only thing that lowers my stars.
This place is lovely. I havent seen the rooms, Ive only been to the bar and restaurant area which, despite being rather new, is becoming popular with the locals (myself included). Its lively & energetic without being oppressively loud near the bar or dining area, as if it has the energy of a bistro without the noise. I might even call this place romantic in the back room.If youre looking for a quiet dinner, request the large room in the back.
Our first stay, will never stay at another hotel when in New York. The service is impeccable from every employee. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are so clean! The rooms have floor to ceiling windows that make the room so welcoming and roomy. But at the same time , it is the most quiet room I have ever stayed. I never heard anyone around us and not any noise from the city! Great bathroom too.The bar is fabulous, no need to go anywhere else for drinks.I would not hesitate to stay here if you are considering, it will not disappoint.
I have been to approximately 25 different places for afternoon tea and this was by far the WORST I have ever experienced. I am giving it two stars only because the atmosphere and service were both fantastic. The finger sandwiches were terrible and poorly prepared. The crust was haphazardly cut. One of the sandwiches was so awful I could scarcely choke it down. The presentation was barely acceptable. The tea itself was already over-steeped when it arrived at my table. This was an extremely disappointing experience especially for the $45 price tag. I have had afternoon teas for $18 which far outstripped this place. I dont know anything about the hotel, but avoid the tea at all costs. Try anywhere else.
Walking in , the decor is just so refreshing and uplifting. Bright and super sweet and cute ... even the lifts are such a delight to look at .. art pieces all over .The service is great , staff are very friendly and kind. I was surprised one morning , the GM is there looking afternoon guests in the breakfast place . Amazing ! Such hands on service no wonder every small detail has been carefully looked after .My room is very spacious , very generous with closet space and drawers ... which I need badly . The bathrooms are just so much fun .... a tv embedded in the wall across the tub .... makes my tub bath so much more fun watching the NY news ...
What a remarkable upscale hotel right in the heart of The City. We stayed in 2 of the 10 Suites and we answer at how well appointed and meticulously designed it was. Just a 2 night stay, but I would have stayed Forever. Great service from check in to check out. We loved the inviting and very comfortable shower and beds. Forget about staying anywhere else. The Whitby is all you need to know.
If you order a $22 drink off the menu then, of course, you expect what they descibe... and you expect, at least, friendly service. The smokey Martini with blue cheese and almond stuffed olives sounded very interesting. A minute or so after it arrived I noticed that the olives we just regular out of the jar olives... No blue cheese or almonds. Even though there were more people behind the bar than sitting at it, no one checked on me for the 30 minutes that I sipped the drink. The only interaction after 30 minutes was do you want your check?. I asked about the olives and was told yeah, were out.. as they walked off to get my check. Beware ... Get details on their inventory before you order anything. They take no responsibility for descrepancies.
Finally something interesting has landed in Midtown! The Whitby Hotel is a true eclectic creation by the same team that created the Crosby Hotel. Love the English flairs and implacable curation in every detail. If you are interested in interior design, this looks like heaven! The food and bar are also delightful and super cozy and warm, unlike other business centric places in midtown. The rooms are superb with their own themes and art collections.
I booked the hotel based on reviews. Never stayed in this hotel before but its fabulous. New York hotels are hit and miss. This was a bulls eye and the people are so courteous and welcoming. The rooms are very well maintained and clean. The rooms are also very quiet. I would come this hotel again.
As far as a start up the hotel is wonderful. I stopped in for breakfast on their opening day and the service was great. The decor is amazing and the staff very attentive. After visiting the hotel on numerous occasions I would have to say their on track in becoming a 5 star hotel.
Came in for tea and desserts, after 30 min no one has even asked us what dessert are we having. All of our interactions required calling different staff members for service. The place itself is nice, but all the tables seem to be underserved: people with reservations wondering were the hostess is, they only offered to take our soaking wey raincoats until after we got our tea and more...
Came for high tea and lunch. Nice setting but that’s about it. Service is slow and poor. Food is average at best and priced like a high tea at the Langham or Connaught in london— which is a joke. If you decide to come, the scones and clotted cream are good as are some of the dessert items in the high tea. Sandwiches are poor as were the entrees we had: the beef filet and veal ragout. Service needs a lot of polish however their silverware is pretty.

2022-03-06Perfect big enough New York hotel! A bit on the pricey side but worth it. Bigger rooms then many NYC hotels Ive stayed in, lots of water pressure in the showers and Uber comfy beds with great pillows and comforter. Concierge staff is super helpful and front desk efficient and well organized. My first choice for place to stay in NYC.

2022-03-21The Whitby Hotel is 5-star by décor only, bare minimum service is our experience. It was a very special occasion for us which wed stated in every notes box and travelled from London for, not a single mention or congratulations. Vastly different experience from luxury European hotels who seem to know how to deliver a service to match without an acutely uncomfortable expectation of constant tipping. Room was on the lowest floor they could give for the rate. They couldnt even be bothered to reply to an email post-stay to resolve the fact wed been double charged.

2022-05-01I went for tea for my 30th birthday. The staff was not very attentive and they ignored the notes in my reservation about the scones. The presentation was lovely but the sandwiches and scones were not what I expected, and frequently go afternoon tea and have for several years no.

2022-06-11Not the best service or food! But a different plan. The tea deal is not for those who like to eat, or get good service. Delicious sandwiches on the good side.

2021-10-05Went for Afternoon Tea on a Sunday and loved it. I got the peony tea ( absolutely delicious) and my friend the lemon one. Every treat on the tier plate was yummy. The scones were soft on the inside and tasted homemade. I could not finish everything. I ended up taking small taste bites of the desert bites which did not disappoint. You will not leave hungry. The decor is gorgeous and the staff friendly. The experience was absolutely divine and I will definitely be going back.

2021-12-13They have a Private theater and bar downstairs. I went to a movie with party after. Staff was super nice especially the bar human (pretty young woman). The waiters brought out trays of mini-foods ...it all tasted 👍 great. The movie was great too. Some of the cast did an after interview moderated by Joe Neumaier. He surprised the actors with his movie knowledge. Actually I learned sumthin from a Q&A. Amazing evening.

2021-10-24Had the Afternoon Tea here and loved it! We made reservations and were seated right away after showing our proof of covid vaccination. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous and we enjoyed the tea and food trays. Each person in the group got to choose which tea they wanted (and there was a large variety), and each table got two food trays with small sandwiches and desserts, which were surprisingly filling. Will be coming back in the future!
