I grew up in this neighborhood. This park is much more safer than it once was. Theres a lot offered here; a giant pool, community center, running track, 3 sports fields, playground, 2 basketball courts, dedicated space for barbecuing and picnics, 4 handball courts, and access to the walking path on FDR Drive. In addition, theres usually access to a large concrete yard that is associated with the connecting school structure.
Nice park, recently with a new area for small children, good cleaning. Saturdays and Sundays quite busy. In summer the outdoor kitchen area is very limited to get a space you have to reserve early. I do not know the steps to make the reservation of those spaces. I mentioned that there is also a public pool !!
Dog owners beware: There is a dog owner that lets his husky off leash and lets him rush at every dog and people in sight. People who work at the park need to tell dog owners like this to leash dogs because someone can get hurt. The dog run is also not very safe since multiple dog fights do happen. Please be safe in this park.
Its a beautiful park where you and your family can have cookouts play sports go running on the track field. Your kids can play on the swings, they can play on the monkey bars, theres handball courts and right by Thomas Jefferson Park theres the FDR Drive where you can take a long walk down the path. Sit on the benches to soak up some sun. In addition, you could go fishing. However, this area is a high impact crime area of gang members and sometimes shootouts in the summer time.
The track and field are really cool here. Tons of kids playing. My nieces and nephews play here a lot and kids from the nearby school were there as well. Its the only childrens park Ive visited in the city so far, but I thought it was great. It was even relatively clean.
This park is pretty good. It is clean, seems like a friendly place. It has a nice variety of activities built-in such as the baseball field, swimming pool, handball and basketball courts, dog park, it even has a small skate park! A very good thing is that there are several marked police cars scattered throughout to provide security and a cop car drives through about every half an hour or so. Good place to go alone, with friends or family gatherings.
Very nicely landscaped, well maintained and spacious place to seek exercise and recreation. I believe the grilling area is under construction. It will be interesting to see the changes. Jefferson park has come a long way over the years. Its nice to see its transformation from an addict hangout to a positive resource for the community. Free Wi-Fi!
Not bad to walk in and do little work outs, but if youre running the track you may not like it especially if youre running for miles. The track is only 0.20 miles long and thats on lane 6, which sometimes is covered by the soccer goal. Lane 4 is around 0.18 miles. My 1st time, I did 10 laps thinking it was 2.25 miles n i didnt even get 2 miles. Still a nice place for you and the kids to hang out at. That area also has a basketball court, baseball field, pool, skateboard park all within walking distance. The kids park is torn down, not sure whats going on with that.
I like this park, it’s one of my favorites. But it gets crowded, especially on the major summer holidays. They have a huge pool, basketball courts, track and soccer field, a small dog park (read other review), handball courts, and a nice size children’s playground. They have designated areas for cookouts, with picnic tables and small grills. They have plenty of benches throughout, especially around the perimeter of the pool. The community building houses the locker rooms, a workout gym, the restrooms and a small dance studio. It’s clean, with modern lighting and neutral colors. There are multiple entrances to the park including on York, Pleasant, First and 110th.
Great place for the children to play a host of activities. Play ground, track, field, basketball, hand ball court, and swimming. Also the community offers programs and activities for the children to play. As a family, you will enjoy the spacious outdoor areas to grill and/or picnic. Its a dog friendly park as well, with an actual dog park located near the back of E111th street corner of the park. My family loves this park.
Great park to do Football, Soccer, Track, and Bodyweight workouts. The people who work Thomas Jefferson are doing an amazing job during this crazy time. The area is always very clean. Also the turf is level and the track is smooth. As for the people who Ive seen enjoying the park, they have been pretty great about following social distancing procedures during workouts.
I really have no complaints with this park what I really would like for them to do is to upgrade the jungle gym for the children and the children sprinkler system at the park. The pool is very clean as well as the locker rooms very well sanitized. Keep your eye out for your personal property, theres a lot of suspects around there and your property will be stolen if you do not keep a good watch for eye on it.
This park isn’t the best but not the worst. There is a soccer field to play soccer. And around it is a place where you could run around the field for runners. There is a playground next to it. It is big! I love it. Behind the playground there is a basketball court to play ball 🏀. The only bad thing is that there is many gangs around. Especially at night. Not super clean either. But still you could go and roast some meat in grills. There are also some grills you could use. But overall it’s not the best, but not the worst.
Very nice family friendly park. Lot of activities. Barbecue areas basketball courts track and field. Beautiful hansball courts with many of players. Courts or not bad but needs repair for the amount of players it is now attracting. Also it is a great venue for major handball and basketball tournaments. I hope this is something that could be looked into
This is a great park to visit - it has a track for running, a play area for children and exercise bars for working out and in the Summer months a pool right next door! And if you are hungry when you finish having fun the Italian restaurant Raos is right on the corner!
There are cool things about this place. One of the only 3 or so parks in NYC where you can legally BBQ. However, in the summer, on weekends, it is madness. To get a grill that isnt occupied is almost impossible. There is a skate park, a soccer field, a basketball court, a pool, a doggie park, a baseball field, monkey bars, and a childrens playground. So pretty much, you want it - you got it. Its a little dirty, but I think thats mostly the fault of those of us who uses the park and doesnt clean up after themselves.Overall, I am happy its so close to my house, as I try to bring my doggo here at least once a day.
Jefferson park is a nice park, there’s plenty to do now especially like basketball, baseball, soccer, football, handball, paddle ball, racquetball, skate park and the pier. The only issue is the youth in the area that sometimes cause problems in these areas. Just be mindful of what time you visit this area, I grew up a few blocks away from it so I’ve been here thousands of times. 👌
This park needs renovations big time. Its a dump. Workers at the pool have a bad attitude. They wouldnt let my niece in because she had a maxi pad in her bag. She told them she it there for emergency purposes and they still didnt care. They said women have been leaving bloody pads in the locker room on the floor and their tired of it. My niece filed a complaint.
Love this park! Its close to home, has an olympic sized pool and is well maintained. They also have a nice sized dog run for big dogs. However, keep an eye out, as criminals frequent the area. My phone got stolen there... in broad daylight. I went to the police station and filed a police report, but the cops couldnt do anything. Google later told me my phone ended up in DR. 🤨
The park itself is great. The pool I would not recommend. The lifeguards are a joke, they have their own little groups that they allow to do WHATEVER. They banned an autistic child, Mother and her new baby, for false reasons. After a bigger, heavier child dunked him in the water. The child is autistic, how did they expect him to react. We were all shocked, we took her number down to advocate for her... 2nd session is the worse....The chief lifeguard she is nasty, cocky and unreasonable..The lifeguards wear socks, sweats, text, dont care who is doing what to who till a teenager dumps a small child in the pool and if that child causes them to move, that child that was dunked is banned for the year. I honestly wish someone investigates. I will recommend the park, its beautiful. The pool is dangerous. Boys touching up on everyone. Total madness. Not pictures allowed, I wonder why???? Someone needs to monitor this pool.
Horrible staff. Nasty and rude staff. I went with my family to enjoy the pool and because I did not have a bathing suit, they literally threw me and my kids out. Will never ever go again. The cleaning lady was soooo rude, she chased after me and made sure I left. It was too much for me.
Thomas Jefferson just like so many other New York city parks and recreational centers around New York City Jefferson Park is one of the most outstanding parks that you can just go there to appreciate to lay in the grass go swimming during the summer hours play basketball play racquetball even exercising area that makes it so beautiful how could you not come there to love this park? Lets not forget the beautiful garden that the community developed and take care of Awesome
Has a recreation center with a pool. A large play area for the kids. a skate park. Handball court basket ball court 2 baseball fields . Soccer field and race track. A small dog park and you can bbq there. I give it 3 stars because it gets very crowded in the summer and well people dont pick up their trash. At night its infested w rats looking for some leftovers.
Free public pool, actually two pools, one shallow one foot deep kiddie pool, while the other is four feet deep. Nowhere deeper than four feet. Masterlock lockers available, several lounge chairs, but not enough to serve the pool capacity. Strictly enforced rules by the dozen life guards.
A big park located between the FDR Drive and 1st Avenue. The Park has a Running track with a futbol/soccer field, Handball and Basketball courts, Baseball Fields, and a Community Center with a pretty large pool. Theres also a Pedestrian Bridge that goes over the FDR Drive to the Pedestrian/Bike path along the east coast. Theres also 2 playgrounds inside the park and some art sculptures too. The east river plaza mall is nearby as well.
Thomas Jefferson Park is a Wonderful Green Space for All ages. Theres a Wonderful Pool and Recreation Center. Track, Soccer Field, Baseball field, Outdoor Work out Area. Playground Area Hand Ball Courts, Basketball Courts, 2 Dog runs!! Barbeque Area with Barbeque Grills! Beautiful sunsets!
Oh it was so nice to watch the kids play basketball and the children swimming it was such a beautiful visit to this car actually I grew up here when I was 15 years old I spent the whole summer at Jefferson Park and now to see it as a grown man of 72 greatest thing on earth
Jefferson Park has been a beautiful for many years. It was well patrolled, kept very clean and the parks department always did a great job in maintaining the grounds. Every May & June the baseball and softball fields were properly maintained. The various courts (handball, tennis, basketball) got a new fresh coat of paint. The pool was scraped and repainted.Well since DiBlasio took office everything has changed. NYPD patrol has ceased, this year Di Blasio and Micthell Silver decided not to repaint the courts as well as filling up the pool without scrapping away old loose paint and not painting the pool at all. Once again Di Blasio is taking NYC back in time to the 70s & 80s. Undoing everything Michael Bloomberg worked so hard to upgrade this city.Beautification in NYC Parks is very important. It makes individuals respect & care about our grounds. If it looks good people treat it good. Our youth and families need these parks.

2022-04-10Decent park for sports, baseball ⚾️ and soccer. Drainage could be better, but there is parking. They have a porto-potty seems like the regular bathrooms arent open (atleast when we were there). Lots of cops around if youre into that scene.

2022-06-23It good, the track is great for a good workout. You could do a quick picnic, take the kids to the park, dog run is fair.

2022-03-24Small park 3 blocks with common amenities like basketball courts, handball, track, workout area, playground and skate park. Theres also a public pool during summer season that usually offers swim lessons, and indoor activities vary on the time of year. Play area for kids can be extremely crowded on nice days but its also closed to Costco, Target, Aldi, Marshalls.

2022-02-21That dam park is horrible I love the track and the football field but other then that dont ever leave anything laying around. Always stay alert especially at night many people have been mugged and a body was found inside the trash not to long ago. Overall the the running track is great👍

2017-11-21Its a beautiful space in East Harlem that the city has not invested in. My son started having flag football scrimmages here on Sundays in October, 2017 and the bathroom has been closed every time he has played. The baseball field is dirt. The soccer field that they utilized a few weeks ago is dirt as well. The park has a lot of potential, but the city has not done much with it. There is no parking lot, so you have to find street parking or pay to park in the lot on E. 111th if they have space.

2019-04-27Nestled on the edge of East Harlem. Thomas Jefferson Park is one of the forgotten beautys of NYC. A park full of amenities for all ages ranging from Track and Field to outdoor swimming. Thomas Jefferson Park also boasts a Recreation center for children & seniors.

2019-06-28What a beautiful park! The largest public pool Ive ever seen filled with kids enjoying themselves, also basketball courts, playground for the little ones and a very popular skate park. This day Ryan Sheckler was at the park visiting with the skateboarders. We enjoyed ourselves very much. #RyanSheckler

2022-03-27It’s a nice park, big open fields. However it’s right next to the highway so it’s quite loud and the air is very polluted, the skate park is small.
