I had the pleasure of meeting Bishop Wilbert Ingram through my sister Ruby Boykin. Bishop Ingram worked at the Lakeview Public Library where my sister was the director. My sister enlisted Bishop Ingram to preached at my fathers funeral back in 2016. He charged $400.00. The family paid this fee without hesitation. September 24, 2021 my sister Ruby Boykin passed away. My family and I enlisted Bishop Ingram to conduct preach/eulogy at her funeral on 10/8/2021 at 6pm. Bishop Ingram and his secretary, Vanessa Jones, advised my family the cost would be $600.00. My family and I advised Bishop Ingram and Vanessa Jones that we could not afford this cost so we would have a pastor from the funeral home preach her eulogy. Bishop Ingram and Vanessa Jones advised my family that Bishop Ingram would perform the service for free. It was stated by Bishop Ingram that it is not about the money. He stated he had know my sister for many years and worked with her. He stated he loved our family and would be glad to assist us. On 10/8/2021, I received a call from Vanessa Jones at about 10:30AM and/or 11:00AM this is the day of the funeral stating she is the person that the money is given to for the Bishop. There would be no monies exchanging hands or given to the Bishop at the service. I explained to Ms. Jones that Bishop Ingram had stated he would conduct this service for free. She then went on to say that Bishop Ingram and herself thought my family would provide the $200.00 that we were going to pay the pastor from the funeral home. I again addressed the conversation I had with Bishop Ingram that this service would be free. She stated she just wanted to clear things up at which point our conversation ended. At 11:15 AM Bishop Wilbert Ingram came to my sisters home to advise he would not be performing the funeral services. He stated he felt some Kind of way. He returned the $100.00 given to him by my sisters friend . Now this is 6hrs and 45 minutes before the funeral began. The funeral home did locate someone to perform the funeral . I do understand that Bishop/Pastors/ priest want to be compensated for there time when performing these types of services. However, Bishop Wilbert Ingram was advised from the very beginning that the family could not afford it. He and his secretary decided to perform this service for free. My family decided to seek out other pastors. I thought it was very cruel of Bishop Wilbert Ingram to cancel at the very last minute. Our family was grieving the lost of my sister and then to have this Bishop to do such as cruel and inhumane thing. I am writing this to inform people what type of person Bishop Wilbert Ingram really is. I find it very sad that preaching and eulogizing at someones funeral has become a business.
