This is one of those places when you get discriminated for how you look. After a long day in NYC my shirt was messy and it was cold so I bought a hoody. The doorman told us the place was closed even though we had a reservation. I would have appreciated if he told us they have a dress code. I could have gone by my hotel and changed. But lying is cheating and cheating is wrong. But next door is a German beer house and they know that money is green even in if the man carrying the wallet has a hoodie on. They dont have the view but they have the rigth staff.
We decided to check out the bar and the view before our dinner reservations. I had my typical and MMC tried something called the gin-gin. My whiskey was good, a solid pour and one large rock. We also tried the sliders. It took about 15 minutes to get them and when they arrived they were cold. I also searched and searched for the meat but could not find much. The sliders were mostly bread and shredded lettuce. There was an amazing sauce but certainly not worth the price. The view is directly opposite the Empire State Building. I guess you have to pay something for the view. The view was spectacular. The bar was also packed with baby carriages so if your ideal evening event comes with expansive drinks, overpriced food, and baby carriages the strand is for you. Our waitress was fantastic, very friendly and informative.
We came around 9:30 on a Sunday night and it wasn’t crowded. We had front row views to the Empire Stage Building. It wasn’t a packed rooftop bar where you have to look over people to catch see the city lights. It was a chill vibe with great music. It’s a great place to meet a group of friends in their lounge area as well as a romantic date.I ordered the Machu Pisco which was great!!! It was worth the $18 - they put a New York design of the Manhattan skyline on my drink. I would say this is a great low key gem on Sunday night. Big plus - the bathroom was clean
What an amazing place to spend NYE! Deborah thank you so much for looking after us and providing us with an evening we will NEVER forget!Oscar served us drinks all night and was a truly wonderful person. Would highly recommend this place to anyone and we would do this again 100 times over given the chance.
Nice waiter but you have to get your own tap water. Why leave a 20% tip then? Vodka martini average. Didnt ask for a dirty martini but got one with bits floating in it. Not very enticing. Olive looked like it had been chewed. Great view but not sure it is worth the price.
Very cosy place, we visited it the day they had karaoke night and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The owner is adorable and makes you feel like very comfortable. The barman let us try two beers in order to decide the one that we wanted to drink and fresh water with ice was poured into our glasses throughout the night. The karaoke program run smoothly and the owner encouraged and accompanied with her lovely voice nearly every potential singer! The prices of the drinks were affordable, for USA standards.
Great spot for a cocktail and a view! Unobstructed view of the Empire State Building, and there is a view of the ESB from every corner of the bar. Several seating options, including a lounge area, high tops, small tables, and bar stools along the window. The roof is closed in cold months, it it’s opened during warm months to give patrons an even better view. Apps available. Prices are reasonable and service was good!
Heey, went to grab some cocktails with the girls last Saturday. We had some great seats with an amazing view to the night sky and the lights of the city. We loved how the Empire state building changed color! It was a little bit crowded, but hey, it’s a great place and people obviously like it a lot. We liked it as well. And the staff were handling it pretty good, too.The cocktails were recommended as ‘seasonal’ so we decided to go for them. I shot a couple of “La Patronas” and my girls went basically through the whole list. All of them were pretty cool. We shall definitely return soon.
Excellent roof top bar in midtown. Wonderful view views of the city, good music that you can actually have a conversation with your friends. Signature Sous Vide Cocktails are so smooth and rich. Both Luis and Ellie took great care of us with speedy and kind service. Bar menu was delicious ( must try BBQ chicken flat bread!) and fresh and not stingy on any ingredients. Love this place!
Great rooftop bar at the Marriott Vacation Club Hotel. Quick and friendly service with good (but pricey) drinks. The city views here are really nice so the drink prices didnt matter as much. Was also nice that it wasnt over-crowded and the mix of people was just right.
Went here during a weekend visit for happy hour on Friday. Easy to find, great view of the Empire State Building. Small and intimate. Good music, set a romantic mood and volume was conducive to conversation. Awning and retractable roof...comfortable despite hot summer evening.
The drinks are good and the service was fast and friendly. Its heated and covered, which is nice. But the vew isnt the greatest.. you see the empire state building and thats kinda it. The biggest downfall is the loud club music. It doesnt really fit the atmosphere or crowd. Overall not bad, but not in a rush to get back.
My husband and I were in New York celebrating his birthday. We read that the view from this bar was to die for, so we had to go check it out. We loved the atmosphere; very laid back and fun. Our server was very friendly and we scored the best spot - a couple of stools facing the Empire State Building with the skyline in the background just as the sun was setting. The view - outstanding! The service - good, but it seemed there was only one server for the entire rooftop and it got busy. We ordered an appetizer that we never received, we were going to order a second drink but no one came by to ask us for almost an hour so my husband ended up walking up to the bar, tracking down our server and asking for the tab. We would go back for the view. Just get there early for a good spot!
The location itself is very nice, and the view is outstanding. The service, while very nice, hardly checked on us. Personally had to go to the bar every time to order a drink. This wouldnt be a problem if we werent seated on the complete opposite side of the bar. Drinks are delicious, missed the food by about 30mins so wasnt able to try that out. Not sure if this is a place worth coming back to, but maybe with a large group. Server finally came around to notify us of last call but did not check on us once. Few other tables got their drinks and bills within seconds, while Im still currently waiting for a drink before last call
I went here for the first time, and this was the nicest of all rooftop bars that I went too. Very nice space and great view. I went here for a second time a few days later. My vodka club was not that strong and the Dj cut out early, once the dj cut out, the crowd went down and got a little boring.. Great place though.
Arrived and was told that the place was at capacity. After we saw multiple others go to the roof we decided that we would follow. We got to the roof and the place was no where near capacity and on top of that we had to wait 20 minutes to get a single drink. Im upset because I have been here before with a very good experience but this time was such a bad experience I had to leave a review. Not recommended.
Minus one Star. After some years we are back in the hotel and the bar. Service was very bad, no a warm welcome. We had two gin and tonics, it was not tonic it was just water. Stuff had a great time together, guest not. We choose next time another roof top bar, there more in NY¡¡¡
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Food: Excellent.Drinks: Great.Space: Rooftop bar! Really beautiful views of the Empire State Bldg! Very open and intimate floor layout. It has a retractable rooftop, so it is open even if it rains :)Scene: It is a sexy and sleek rooftop bar. It is an open layout that is conducive to mixing and mingling, but small. Good for get-togethers, date night, and a great place to take visitors (since its a few blocks from the Empire State Building). Mostly an afterwork crowd (finance and corporate types) and it does get packed.Crowd: 20-40s Afterwork crowd. Pick-up scene. Single scene.Service: Very good. Super friendly, courteous, and attentive staff.
DO NOT Waste your time with this place!!!! Went there at 11pm on a Saturday night and was told there was a private function and it would not be open to public until 12am, the staff in reception told us we should wait around and come back at 12 which is exactly what we did. Came back at 12 hoped in the lift got to the top level and a person from security told us the private function had been extended and bad luck we had to leave, he was rude and bad mannered! A complete and utter waste of time! Management should not treat people like this and need to have hard look at themselves! There are heaps more better roof top bars in NYC that will happily accept your money!
All Good! Awesome place with a fantastic location to see all the best of NYC. Staff is super - very helpful and attentive. Bistro food is great and the folks there are excellent. Rooms are cozy, but who spends time in the room...get out and soak in the city. Our room had a fantsstic view of the ESB (18th floor) with a mini fridge and freezer.. So much to see.....it was great. We will definitely be back!
Great drinks and service with spectacular views from this all-season rooftop bar. Be aware that the management somehow thinks this is a nightclub, or wants desperately for it to BE a nightclub, so there is music blasting at such decibels as to render conversation totally impossible in such a compact space.
Where: This rooftop lounge sits on top of the Strand Hotel, West 37th Street. The scene: The dramatic view of the Empire State Building is enough to bring flocks of city dwellers to the Top of the Strand. But look away from the incredible structure and you’ll find yourself in a modern splendour – created by Lydia Marks, the set designer for Sex in the City, this rooftop bar is a young cosmopolitan’s dream. The bar is made atmospheric by the flickering candles and lanterns dotted in between potted plants, the long wooden banquettes decorated with rural tartan cushions, and the impressive views adding to its contemporary city charm.Signature drink: There are plenty of fine wines and great beers here, including a Pumpkin Ale that tastes like ‘coca-cola in beer form’, as well as fabulous cocktails. Try the Honey Miss Daisy, a sweet and spicy mixture of tequila blanco, pomegranate, sweet vermouth, burnt honey and tobasco.Take a bite: The menu here is simple yet effective; including lamb ribs, nuts, chips and charcuterie - but the speciality is definitely their Double Maine Lobster Rolls. With twice as much meat as other restaurants, including the juicy tail meat, this sumptuous butter poached whole Maine lobster is layered into a soft roll and served with the hotel’s own vinegar chips.

2022-06-06What a great find! I reserved a section of this rooftop bar for my family at no cost, and we had an amazing experience there. The drinks were amazing, and our waiter was stellar. It has a prime unbeatable view of the Empire State Building to top it all off!

2022-05-25Access to the bar is through the Marriott and despite having a reservation the doorman wasnt keen on letting us in. First he tried to tell us our teenagers werent allowed in and then when his colleague corrected him he asked to see our vaccination certificates. We duly produced them but then he wanted ID to verify them. My husband and I had ours with us but I wasnt carrying the kids ID with me. He happily denied us entry and informed me every establishment in New York would insist on the same thing (in fact nowhere else during our entire time in NYC asked for our vaccination certificates let alone ID to verify them with). We left and were standing outside when his colleague decided to let us in.The bar is nicely done with a great view and the staff upstairs were friendly and professional. Drinks are priced okay considering the location but there is only a small bar snack menu.Just a shame about the totally unnecessary drama to be let in.

2022-06-05We came to New York for our friends 30th birthday and top of the strand didn’t disappoint! Their drink prices are reasonable for a beautiful rooftop view of the Empire State Building and comfortable seating/upbeat atmosphere with a dj. I got the Oscar and it was incredible, we also got a bottle of champagne. As soon as we got there it felt extremely exclusive and relaxing, our waiter Patrick was the real star of the show though! He was an AMAZING waiter. He poured our champagnes for us, made sure our champagne glasses stayed full the entire time, made sure to check on us throughout our entire almost 2.5 hour stay, and was the sweetest guy the entire time. He was so kind and it really made our experience the best, and our favorite bar on the trip! He even saw us leaving and offered to take a picture of our group with the Empire State Building in the back, and we got a picture with him as well! If you visit New York, come to the top of the strand and ask for Patrick you won’t regret it! :)

2022-01-30Have come during the winter and the summer, and was so glad to see that it was open again after COVID. Unequivocal views of the empire state building, even more impressive when the rooftop is open to air during the summer. Drinks are expensive but expected. They have excellent sous vide cocktails but have cut down on the variety they had. On our visit during the winter, bar was overheated and very hot, had to leave early because we were sweating.

2022-04-15I went for the view and was not disappointed. I give them 4 stars because even if we did have a reservation, we had to wait about 20mins for them to give us a table. Prices were ok and there was live music (nice Spanish guitar). Next time I visit NY, I’m probably going to go back as I really enjoyed the view/overall experience.
