Town Hall in other cities:
Saw Taylor Tomlinson do stand-up here — we were in the back section, row K, and still had an excellent view. We got in quickly and were able to see the stage clearly, which was nice. I don’t think there’s a bad seat here! The chairs were also pretty soft, which I appreciated.
The venue itself is a 4-5 star experience. The views and acoustics are great from any seat and the space has the character befitting a legendary hall. However… the mandate clearly provided to the incessantly patrolling guards is clear. They are to act like gleeful Stasi operatives. Running around all show distracting everyone, shining torches in people faces telling them to put their mask over their nose! Stop taking pictures! It’s 2022 not 2020 anymore. It is becoming a destructive philosophy and the Town Hall is captive.Change your ways Town Hall. Focus on the music. And maybe do some renovations.
At the heart of Times Square. Easily accessible by walk if you are staying in Manhattan. Small decent place like one of those local theaters with two levels. They dont have any screen but given the size of the place that makes sense. Saw Snoa Patrol performing here. It was great!
Was at this venue for Evening with Bruce Dickinson. The venue itself is fine but had two annoyances with venue staff. #1 They were supposed to be handing out question cards at the door to be given to Bruce, according to the show description. Didnt see a single person handing out or filling out cards, I came a half hour early but apparently you had to be there even earlier to fill out a card, disappointed. #2 Wanted to get some short video/pics to show my friends and there were ushers ordering people put their phones away. Why? How is my 30 second cellphone video pirating or ruining the experience for others? This was not a Broadway show and he wasnt revealing the secret of the universe, just recanting stories from his book. Its like theyve never had a rock/metal musician there before.
Lovely old concert hall. Went tonight to The Big Quiet mass meditation event. It was practically a full house and there was quite a long line to get in. The staff at the box office, the ticket takers and ushers were all very friendly and efficient. Managed to get everyone inside quickly. The theater hooks about 1500 and you can tell its been well kept although the seat next to me had a rip in the fabric. The acoustics are quite nice. Sounds had a nice deep full sounding vibrations. I recommend the loge seats in the balcony which has a very nice view of the stage and is a bit roomier than most sections as it only seats three per section and row. Tickets price were reasonable in comparison to some other Broadway theaters in the neighborhood. I wouldnt mind coming back to see other performances.
The theatre is pretty and the venue has two womens bathrooms, which is very nice. However, like most theatres in NYC, theres not much leg room. Im about 510 and sitting in my seat for an hour was painful. I ended up moving to an aisle seat at intermission for the extra room.
This place is fantastic! We were there last night, the sound was great, the lighting was great, the atmosphere of the theatre was great. Its not a huge theatre, the size is more intimate, very comforting. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The only concern was the drink prices are very steep, $15 for a glass of beer. We had beverages right before the show and then waited until after and saved almost $50 that way ;)
Lots of space, good ambience, good sound system and great seating arrangement*, no matter where you sit, you get a clear view of the stage.*Only thing is the seats are little bit smaller than usual and are not much comfortable for person above 511. But anyway you go there to enjoy show not the seats. :P
I normally love to go to town hall for concerts been there many times and everything was great except for ushers. They we’re walking up and down like Nazis telling people to wear their masks. after spending $36 for a glass of wine how am I supposed to drink it with my mask on? It was ridiculous if you want everyone to wear masks then don’t sell liquor exorbitant prices. They really shouldn’t be able to have it both ways.It ruin the night , the ushers were so aggressive even theHost of the evening Bruce Dickinson interrupted his show and questioned one of them from the stage “are you lost”? and then commented about the ridiculous Covid protocol …
If youre tall, you will find the seating very uncomfortable. Theres nothing special about the setting, and the seats numbers are confusing. Drinks are also pretty expensive. I will day that the actual stage itself has a good setup and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Easy to see right off of 43rd Street servicing Midtown and the adjoining areas of Manhattan. Parking on the Street is available but it fills up fast especially at night and on the weekends. Parking lots are close by. Great for the small venue shows like Gary Valenciano and other performers of his Caliber. Reasonably priced. Moderately clean facilities. Public Restrooms. Credit cards accepted. We will definitely be going back.
The place is not too big, so even if you sit at the last row (on the ground floor) it is still pretty close and you can see pretty good. The the seats though have no angle so if someone tall or with big hair sits in front of you, you can’t see a thing. Also there a really small bar, and because you can’t bring any food or drinks, you have to wait a very long line for the bar, and the drinks are extremely expensive!!!! Because they bring you reusable cups, I paid for two beers 28$!!!!
Solid venue. No pictures or video which I think is great. We saw City and Colour with Katie Pruitt here. Sound quality was excellent and captured their voices well. The bar service was good, but the lines were far too long and there was only wine and liquor - no beer. That could certainly be improved.
Went to see a concert but the vibe was ruined by the staff shining their lights in everyones face to put their mask back on DURING THE SHOW despite showing our vaccine card. But buying their $30 wine that we supposedly shouldnt even be able to drink because we have to take the mask off for a second god forbid, no problem with that. Just as NJ/NY are lifting their statewide mandates this place is 6 months behind the curve and still in full force pandemic lockdown mode. COVID is pretty much over now everywhere you go but if for some reason you want to be reminded of it nonstop you know what venue to go to.
I was lucky enough to see Tim and Eric a few years back at this theatre and loved it. It’s probably one of the nicest theatres in NYC with comfortable seating and great views. The show was funny as heck and awkward as heck cuz it was Tim and Eric but seriously if a show you would like to see is in Town Hall, you will have a great time!
The location was great! It was my first time coming in for a concert at this location, after working in Midtown all these years! Finally, in 2019 (5/09), I got to hear one of my favorite artists in concert in person for the first time. Remembering the past and looking forward, this is a special day that I hope that I remember. 😊
A theater in midtown, they hosted an artist that I really liked. I was eager to visit, but came away a bit disappointed by the accommodations. The drinks came in a commemorative cup which was cool, but the seats on the first floor had no cupholders. At the end we were asked to stand, but there was very little room between each row which wasnt too comfortable. Its not the venue I wouldve selected if I had the choice.
Every seat is a good seat in the house! Nothing was to fast away and we sat in the balcony. But if youre taller than 58 and if youre plus size, you have to squeeze into those old seats! Super uncomfortable and bruises on my knees, but the entertainment was worth it! Saw Fortune Feimster 11/6/21 and she was wonderful! Also they mandated masks, and check ids and vax cards, so that was definitely a good move to help us feel a little safer in such course quarters.
I absolutely love this venue! Easy to get to from where I usually say (near mid town or Central Park), intimate and comfortable seating. I went to see Trevor Noah here a few years ago and tonight go to see Peter Bence .. Peter is AMAZING! Anyone who likes piano should take an opportunity to see him if they can! Highly recommend Peter Bence and the venue!
We visited The Town Hall few days ago. Billy Idol concert was amazing. The venue is nice, but one thing is a bit annoying - the seets have very little space for your legs, almost unbearable for a taller person. So I got up and danced. ....and the bar is overpriced, even for NYC.
Not disabled friendly! My husband who uses a wheelchair was asked to keep his wheelchair in a room adjacent to the auditorium and go in. I helped bring the wheelchair back after he was seated. What if the wheelchair user came alone? We were told that the wheelchair was a fire hazard. Even air planes allow wheelchairs with certain accommodations. Very disappointed with the visit.
Small venue walking distance from Port Authority. It only seats 1500 people so you can see the stage well from all sections. The sound quality is good but the seats are really uncomfortable. At six-foot-two, Im tall but not freakishly tall. I could not get comfortable the entire show. My knees were pressed against the seat in front of me the whole time and with people sitting next to me, I had to keep my legs together to avoid touching them. This wouldnt have mattered so much if it was the type of show that people stood up for, but everyone sat for the whole show. It got so uncomfortable that I was relieved when someone in my row had to get out because it meant I got to stand up for a few seconds and stretch out to let them pass. The drinks are a ripoff even by concert venue standards. $17 for a vodka and club soda is really ridiculous. It wasnt even a double.
I saw City and Colour here, and the acoustics in this venue where phenomenal. It’s the perfect sized theater to maintain an intimate feeling while also enabling the excited energy of a large enough crowd. It’s kind of an old building, which adds interesting character (since I didn’t experience any problems because of that).
Absolutely incredible venue. Very friendly and helpful staff. Saw Imogen Heap here. This venue is very intimate and everything was excellent. Stairs down to the bathroom are narrow and the bar tab was astronomical at $16 a drink. We got two doubles so it came out to $66. Otherwise, fantastic venue. Be sure to find parking ahead of time. I hope to be back soon!
The show that we went to was AMAZING. The venue was really beautiful and pretty clean, and all seats had a pretty good view of the stage. I gave this a 3 though because it was so hot in here that I was actually sweating along with the other 4 of my friends. It was so bad we had a hard time paying attention. Luckily it was an awesome show so we were fine. Further, beer was $15 which is kind of absurd when you are at a comedy show. Last, there were only 5 unisex bathrooms which makes the lines pretty long.Overall, I would go back if I had to, but wow, really could easily improve some things to make the experience better.
TH is a classic old theater that is well maintained with friendly staff. Easy to get to seats. Small venue of approx 1500. We had Loge seats and they were awesome. I think upper balcony may seem far from stage. If you have an opportunity to see a show here take advantage!
My friend and I went to see the Korean band The Rose and loved the concert. We had GA tickets but still got amazing seats. The only downside were all of the sound issues for the band. But in all honesty it made it an even better concert. Easy to find and a great location. Would definitely go back again.
This is my first time in town hall for a show. The location is amazing,, inside is gorgeous and the show was unbelievably beautiful. A talented performance by Havasi. He is a brilliant composer, musician and performer. He is passionate about piano and to remember as many different musical sets as he did without any written notes in front of him is extraordinary.A brilliant human being and I am so glad that I attended and had a chance to experience such a perfection!
Love this venue! I have seen three shows here (yo la tengo once and live from here twice). There is no bad seat in the house! I have sat once in the balcony, twice in orchestra, and all seats had a great view of the stage. I love the plush red seats and old theatre vibe. The people selling refreshments are hilarious, and the ushers are friendly and helpful. I hope to see another show here soon.
Easily accessible & with expensive parking ($50 for 4 hrs) within a few steps, this is an elegant venue. Drinks were pricey & water $6, but to be expected. Had orchestra seats off to the side & would have preferred front balcony, but no complaints. Staff was friendly & security wasnt rude or over the top for the Wanda Sykes show that was recorded for Netflix.
This petite venue makes for intimate and memorable concerts.Been here twice and the staff have always been sweet. And since its practically in the heart of Times Square, theres a wide variety of restaurants to visit before a show, and pharmacies in case something comes up. Everything is just a short walk away.
Ive been here many times and each time it seems like the venue is more and more in disrepair. The security people at the door were VERY RUDE! During the concert I think it was head of security going over to patrons standing and shining his flashlight on them to stop taking pictures. This was very rude to the other patrons trying to see the concert, while he blocks their view. As every venue is different (some places allow taking of photos with no flash), an announcement shouldve been made about no taking of photos. Speaking of announcements, what happened to letting us know where the emergency exits and rest rooms are, and how long intermission was going to be.
Great view no matter where you sat . lighting was amazing . and the staff are very helpful.. Clean bathrooms . and alcoholic beverages sold are always a plus. They always put on acts such as stage shows, comedy shows, the drag show the haters roast. Definitely a great venue
We had great seats for the show we saw, but they didnt open the doors until 10PM which is when the show was supposed to start -- obviously it didnt, but theres no indication that the ticket show time is when the doors would open, not actually when the show would start. It was also very very warm in there. They had two bars set up but were slammed and it took forever to get a drink, we ended up missing the first 10 minutes of the show b/c for whatever reason they didnt open the doors until the show time of the ticket. I just think they could have been better organized so that people didnt miss the show b/c they took too long opening the doors, getting people in the doors and getting drinks. Know your audience and the show youre putting on, I know not everyone drinks, but I dare say given the show and time of night that we were all there to see, it was a good bet that 90% of the people would want a drink. Also they were ridiculously expensive, more so than you expect a show in Time Square to cost. Also, turn on the air! It was a sweat box in there.
Been here three times. Venue is good, they bring a lot of very interesting shows. The room is small enough that as long as your not on the edges of the room there are no bad seats. Have not been up in the balcony, but I think they would be great too as long as your not in the back.Sit on the aisles as there is very little leg room. Seats are padded, but there is something about them that is incredibly uncomfortable. Every time I have been my lower back starts to hurt and by the end of the show it reaches all the way down to my tailbone, and I am not prone to any sort of back pain.
Good music venue. Staff is helpful and friendly enough, and the place is clean and comfortable, with good sight lines. Acoustics in the space are good.I only took pictures of Todd Rundgren playing the guitar he used to open the show. I still havent identified it. Does anyone reading this know about exotic guitars?
Great venue for Prairie Home Companion. Sound and sight lines are great. No drinks allowed in the seating areas and the bathrooms upstairs are three single toilet rooms and lines form for men and women during the rush.A fun place in a great location. In Times Square but off on a nice, quiet street.
Beautiful hall but very intimate. When crowds are all together during intermission it can get pretty hectic. Otherwise, theres no bad seat in the house. I do recommend row D-L left aisles if you can. Those are pretty unobstructed and have a clear view of the center stage. Drinks and food as per your usual show hall. Very limited bathroom but its kept clean.
Horrible,Horrible venue! This town hall has the worst acoustics I’ve ever heard! The volume in that place is lowest I’ve ever experienced. It was like the artist were trying to be heard and express to you who they were through their music, only to fall on def ears. It was hard to watch. I felt terrible for them. It ruined the whole show for me. I didn’t even stay for Jackie Greene who I went to see with my wife in the first place, for our 16th anniversary. What a waste of money and a ruined evening. It was like flushing hard earned money straight down the toilet. I was heartbroken that I had to leave because I couldn’t hear anything! And my seats were front row balcony. When you clapped for the artist you would hear your own echo carry though the venue like an empty gymnasium. Seriously? I have no idea how that place is even in business. I will never go to this venue again. No matter who is playing! If your are an artist wanting to be heard, I would not advise playing at town hall. It will ruin your show! Town hall...BOOOO!!!
Concerts are good, but facilities dated. Only mens room in basement with narrow winding staircase up and down. There are unisex restrooms on second level. No railings to go up balcony seating area. No elevator in building. Not handicap accessible! Seats comfortable, and good sight lines. Accoustics soso.
The performers were amazing but the staff was something else. One was extremely rude the whole night, taking it out on young concert goers that she hates her job. Never been treated that rudely at an NYC concert venue ever before. Something was wrong with the sound and the speakers on the left would threaten to turn you deaf. Would go too see a favorite act of mine there again but wouldnt look forward to the venue. The ceiling is gorgeous though
The size of the space is intimate without being squished. I was dissapointed that the amplifier/speakers were situated on the corner of the stage, blocking what would have otherwise been great seats in center 3rd row. This is not evident when looking at seat -tuesday prior to selecting seats.
The event I attended sponsored by MAC cosmetics and The Two Blondes in connection with the Moulin Rouge broadway play was very well produced. All of the staff treated guests very well and although I had to depart before the reception have heard that that was also well done. The town hall is looking quite good for such an old theatre.
I was here for RuPauls drag race Werk the Worls tour. I got my tickets late so I was in nose bleed and I could still see everything, center row balcony all the way in the back and I could still see the performance with amazing clarity. My only complaint were the seats were incredibly rigid and small but then again I am 65 300lbs so a lot of people arent going to have my experience. Just be aware if youre a big person like me you may not enjoy the seating.
Stopped in for a drink at 11:45 pm on a Thursday but got turned around immediately. Turns out it closes at Midnight; rather early closing time for NYC but they are likely open later Friday and Saturday. Despite this, the decor was nice & gave off a real brewery vibe. This would make a good place for dinner and/or drinks before catching a Broadway show.
The venue needs to update the ancient seating!!!! I just got home and I am in agony from sitting in those seats! There is no legroom, so my knees were jammed up against the seats in front... just put my knees In hell! Also.. $10 for a SODA???? Are they nuts? $5 for water? Ridiculous. Ill be avoiding the place in the future.

2022-04-04This was a really nice venue but believe me when I say that the drinks are NOT worth it. We paid $90 for two glasses of wine that came out of a $15 bottle. The bar tender also took my card and swiped it BEFORE he told me how much the drinks were, probably because he knew Id have laughed and walked away. The seats are also a bit small, so if youre bigger make sure you watch out for that. We paid less for the tickets to the show than we did for mediocre wine.Foil, Arms, and Hog were an incredible show as always and Im glad we got to see them. The view from the balcony was really good and we were on the very end so it nice that the stage was perfectly visible from any angle.

2022-02-03Always a gem of a performance spot. Been going here since I can remember. Beautiful, perfectly maintained, great sound and sightlines from all the seats. I was in the rear of the orchestra near the doors on a cold night this time and it did get chilly, so be prepared if youre seated around there.

2022-02-06Very nice venue. It has a very old fashioned theatre decor. Everyone entering was vax screened, which was reassuring and also wanded for any contraband/weapons. Masks enforcement was also in effect. This place did an excellent job of keeping everyone safe and on compliance with the current COVID laws. I came with a good friend to see Bruce Dickinson on his 2022 Spoken Word tour. He did not disappoint! He spoke brilliantly and was animated at times when recalling various life stories of his past. A good time was had by all and I would love to return to this venue in the future.

2022-04-13Stopped by for a comedy show, and was not disappointed. The comedian herself was excellent, shout out to Kathleen Madigan! The venue is great as well, smaller in size so every seat feels like a good one. No fuss to get in and out, and great location if youre looking to grab a bite before or after, easy access if youre taking a train in/out of the city too.

2022-04-04Pretty easy to get to, all seats in the house are good. Some artists will require masks still but the venue will provide them if needed. Drinks are pricey but they do pack a punch and price is reduced with reusable cup.

2022-05-03This venue is small enough that visibility is good from everywhere and you can get right to your seat. They had a smooth entry process during Covid controls (although asking for photo IDs for children is a little odd).
