The thing you have to be aware of when visiting Trader Ks is that, unlike Platos, it is a local business with limited storage capacities. So sometimes theyll pass on clothes in great condition simply b/c they already have too much of that type of item. They see a wide variety of clientele and as they are located right on the Commons they have to deal with people who are mentally ill or addicted to drugs quite often. Most of the angry reviewers are ones who tried to sell clothes, from what Ive seen. Ive seen lots of people get very upset over reasonable buying decisions by the staff. So take some of the incredibly angry one-star reviews of Trader Ks online with a grain of salt. The mens section is the smallest, good to check out for a cheap dress shirt or casual tee. Can have some nice bags and high-quality shoes and sneakers as well. Womens section is a good place for juniors and adults to shop, and they have a range of purses from basic mall stuff to Dooney & Bourke. They have some jewelry and sunglasses most of the time as well. The kids section takes up the other half of the store, I havent gone through it but it seems to have a lot to offer, including a bookshelf of toys and books. Since the items are curated, it can be a good place to shop if you hate rifling through acres of junk to get to one nice shirt. The prices are slightly higher than what youll find at Salvation Army/etc to reflect that. You can find some nice shoes there if you look and they also have a good selection of FLAX.They also sell some of the ugliest Christmas sweaters around in the winter, and they have Halloween costumes and accessories as well!Im semi-local and have gone there many times over the years. Overall a pretty cool place. Worth checking out!
Possibility that they will skimp you out of your money when selling your clothes there, depending on who is looking at the clothes to buy. They will greatly take clothes to donate instead of giving you your moneys worth and just to buy one thing off of you. Its great they are taking clothes but dont go there if you are looking to get quick cash for a quick meal or something. I think its a cute place just one bad worker out of the bunch who comes off greedy who cuts customers off during questions.
Ive been going to Trader Ks for years and have enjoyed every experience . They treat you with respect and are very helpful in making each experience a pleasure. Thank you so much for being such a great store. With many grandchildren I have gone to the other stores that sell used clothing only to be greatly disappointed. Trader Ks will not disappoint you.
Nothing great. It has no respect from me since when I went there I heard the owner say that people who didn’t work should not have received the stimulus check. For one, how would you have liked those people to have found work during the early COVID lockdowns? Keep your opinions to yourself, especially if so ignorant. Plus, ui fool, I’m sure some of those dollars went to your store. Don’t you realize it’s to pump into the economy? Use your brain.
Disrespectful. Judgmental. Unprofessional. I will NEVER EVER shop or sell to this place again. Everyone I talk to says the same thing. Platos closet is a much more professional and respectful place to go to buy and sell. Ive never been so angry at the lack of customer service from a place in my life. I suggest everyone avoid this place at all cost.
Bit over priced for what you are getting. They dont give you much for the clothes you bring in and mark them up greatly. They dont pay their employees well because I have known a few people who have worked there. Minimum wage is what they were making for far too long. So, I dont know where all that money goes because the place isnt too nice and like I said before, they give you basically nothing for the stuff you bring in.
Way over priced for some of the stuff. They want retail for used Jordans. $85-$150 for them used, not even in the greatest condition. It must be the all those well to do college they make a killing off.I did however find some hoodies in good condition for good prices. Overall, anytime Im in Ithaca I always make a stop
I took a medium sized tote to the store off Triphammer full of nice, clean, neatly folded (as requested in their website), cool weather clothes and got treated like I was a filthy dirt bag yet I was nicely dressed, just coming from work. First off, no one even offered to hold any doors for me as Im trying to get through them (two sets of doors this is) with a cane in one hand and the tote on a cart in the other.Im told to sign in and it would be 20 minutes which was fine so I took a looked around. Not much to be had in plus size clothes so I thought, hey, I brought in a great selection they can add to the floor. So I found a sweater I really liked and planned on buying, then sat and talked with another customer. After she left, the girl started going through my stuff. She tips over the tote and riffles through everything, looking at it as though the clothes were covered in maggots. Shes done in about a minute and I got up to the desk and ask, Is that all your taking, four items? She says, Welllllll, we dont take blazers. Yet I just sat there watching her coworker try on a black blazer for a customer who was looking to buy it for a friend. Then she starts insulting my clothes and pulls out one of my light weight sweaters and says, This is pretty and all, but its worn. I said, Worn! I wore that sweater ONCE! (I didnt like the ruffles). She said, Well, its got pills under the arm. No, it didnt. And the sweater I had intended to buy was in worse shape than anything I had brought it. Most of my clothes come from TJ Maxx or Marshalls and nothing I had brought in was pilly, stained or ripped in anyway. And to top it off, she stuffs the clothes back in the tote, not one thing did she refold. RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They just lost a potential source for nice plus sized clothes and a repeat customer!!! I will NEVER go there again for any reason. Yes, that sweater I was going to buy stayed right there.
I brought in a long champ weeks ago and they tried giving me $10 for it... And then I brought in some other really nice clothing from free people a beautiful New Years Eve dress with beading and sequins and they tried saying it was out of season for the summer... this place is definitely not worth the time or your money.. Platos closet is much better.
I went to try and trade in some cloths i went with quite a few items all good to decent quality yet mist of the stuff is a bit under good quality and the lady looked at like 2 things and was just like no we cant take any of that yet see hadnt even looked and the rest of the articles of clothing they we all name brand and really nothing wrong with them idk if she was having a bad but i really felt some sort of way how she just passed all of what I brought in 10 seconds went to Platos closet and they bought most of it

2022-04-23Every single time Ive been in there, the customer service is either just ok, and sometime downright mean. Ive talked with others about it, and that is a common feeling. It just feels like they dont hire for friendliness. I prefer to shop at other thrift stores the Mary Durham (?) one is excellent, they are super friendly and sales benefit women in need. I often get what I call Cornell Lady clothes, new high quality items that were worn by Cornell affiliated folks- by the quality of the brands.

2021-11-15This place is just aawesome store, they carry name brand shows and boots and clothes and you can usually find ALOT of really Great Bargains. If you have some clothes kicking around your place, you can call ahead to find out what type of clothes there willing to pay either cash or you can get store credit.

2022-06-16I would even give them 0 if possible - the owner is rude and unreasonable. Worst experience ever.

2021-07-15I always have to stop in here any time Im in Ithaca. Some super cool secondhand finds to be had. They have a great selection of flax linen items in their own section, which was lovely as Im always looking for more linen pieces.

2020-07-06Great summer finds! I usually go here for girls size 12/14/16 skirts and I get them for under $6!! Past weekend I got a brand name skirt for only $1.15.! Staff is very friendly and helpful store is clean and consigning here is a breeze. Very nice place for casual fun clothing. My mum usually finds nice things here as its quite good for plus sizes as well as standard.

2020-07-20I have been shopping at Trader K’s pretty much my whole life. I’ve found some great pieces over the years at the store and continue to sell items that don’t fit me anymore or just aren’t my style. I always sell using store credit because you get more money back and then I can do some shopping! It is a little annoying sometimes to have a big bag of good brands and they don’t take them, but you have to remember that things must be in season and that they only have so much room for stock. I just bring back the good quality items a few months later! Some of the pieces I’ve found have been in my closet for years and after just recently starting a full-time job, I realized how many pieces I own from Trader K’s! Highly recommend because you can find some true gems. Just like any consignment or thrift store, you have to remember that it can be a hit or miss, but I think part of the fun is finding the good stuff!

2020-07-30Amazing selection, rotates frequently, funky fun bright clothes. Im in the twenty something stylish set, and LOVE shopping here. Make sure you use their punch card because youll save $25 after a certain number of punches. Theres even a passable mens section (right!). Probably half of my wardrobe is from here.

2021-05-13Great store, huge selection, owner is so friendly and helpful! They even have a punch card program - once you spend $250 you get $25 gift certificate. Will definitely be coming back!
