Id give it 20 train whistles if I could; friendly place, great selection, and some of the nicest people Ive had the privilege of meeting. Theyll be moving locations soon, but the dedication and passion speaks for itself.Id recommend anyone who is looking at getting into trains visit at least once for themselves, it certainly brought a smile to my face ~
There is a wide selection of all different gauges of trains there. Little one loves going there cause she loves Thomas and they have him from the wooden ones all the way up to lionel. They also have some used trains there to check out. All the staff there was friendly. Everything there was priced right as far as I could see. Definitely recommend stopping in there if your a big model train fan or one that is just getting into it. They will definitely have what you need to get started on whatever you decide to go with. I saw all different kinds there from Bachmann, Ahearn, lionel, Atlas, and also I did see alot of stuff there to make your scenery from N scale all the way up to G scale. Im sure there was alot more models of trains there so stop by and check it out for yourself. They are also making sure that everyone going in store is safe, checking temp and making you sanitize your hands right now prior to entering.
Win WinI bought a train set for my college son who is home for a few months. Its a blue tooth operated train and it is a state of the art Lionel set. I thought I was paying more than online and it was substantially less than I saw online ... which rhymes with damazon!!!!Great local store with knowledgeable humans who are glad to help you!!!We have to shop local or we will have empty storefronts all over. Not good.Their prices are extremely competitive ...so it’s a no brainer!Full disclosure my specialty is to working in the internet marketing business business. BUT I did not say anything that was no extremely accurate for great local shop that has been around a long long time!Train land is a landmark and they work hard to stay relevant which is very important
Ive come here many times and its just okay in terms of customer service. The gentleman who helped me was great no complaints with him. I walked in one man was busy with another customer thats fine but another man clearly didnt want to be bothered and looked at me as if i were garbage. Im not surprised in this type of climate we live in but business is business and green is green. Well this is the last time I spend money here.
I have been a loyal Trainland customer for over 10 years and will not shop anywhere else for my model train needs. The prices are the best around,, the selection is outstanding and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. In addition, Sal the train repair specialist is simply the best there is at what he does. Trainland is first-rate all the way.
Have visited store twice and had excellent experience. I found staff friendly and knowledgeable. They even sold me a cheaper and better option for what I needed. Prices are lowest I seen. The Web site is also as good as the store. They are now my preferred hobby store.
I live nearby so Ive been there a few times. I agree with others, this place can be unfriendly. Walked in today, said hello and no one ask to help me. I was invisible. I just stood there. Similar past experiences - I just thought they were busy. Walked out. Went to the trouble of driving there for nothing. Ill buy on line. You figure brick and mortar stores would offer personal service that on-line cannot. not here, not today.
While at Trainland checking out Ken Sr. noticed an error by the gentleman helping me on my bill. I was walking out the door when he called me back. The error was in my favor and Ken apologized and gave me back what was owed me. That is the true sign of a of a great and honest business man. That is why Trainland is ranked so high in the country for service and sales. Honestly still means something .Thanks again Ken and keep it up!!Bob
Not the best prices although a little better then others. Very cocky workers and some have such an odd Sense of humor. The website is hard to navigate. The store is not impressive at all. Ken Jr is an odd one at the store. They watch you a lot and seem to get excited when a patron walks in. Cheers
Getting back into the hobby after a few years away. Went to pick up some track and the staff was super helpful. In addition to the track, I received some much-needed advice on getting my TMCC up and running again. Thanks!Update: today I purchased the new Lionel Legacy New York Central E8 AA set. Got it home, put it on the track, and after only trip around the layout it died. Manufacturer defect in the drive motor. By the time I got back to Trainland they were getting ready to close. I thought they might ask me to come back on Monday, but instead the whole staff jumped into action to solve the problem. They quickly confirmed the defect, gave me a brand new replacement engine, and even took the time to test it out to make sure it was working. Problem solved! Truly impressive customer service. Thanks guys!
Amazing place! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Going to a hobby shop can be a bit intimidating if you’re a “newb”. It’s exponentially worse if the staff is composed of a bunch of snobs that look down on anyone that doesn’t dare know nearly as much as they do about said hobby. Thankfully that is not the case as TrainLand. The staff is incredibly courteous and patient with even the “newbiest” of “newbs”, like myself. Thank you all for being so welcoming to me and my family.
Just had a great experience at Trainland -----Sal was very helpful -walked me through a few questions I had --- checked my transformer that I thought needed to be repaired made one adjustment and said it was fine ----- worked on 2 repair problems I had w my 1957 Lionel Seaboard engine --- done in 3 days and runs great ------ met a customer who told me if Sal cant fix it it cant be fixed Highly recommend TrainLand
Not sure who found the staff to be rude, I’ve always asked for help and regardless if the item is just behind the counter or in the stock room they always help me with what I need.Everytime I come here I get what I need or if not in stock here they have it brought over from Brooklyn, can’t argue with that. You cannot beat the prices, nowhere online comes close especially with shipping. If you’re local train land is a no brainer.Sal is always super helpful takes the time to answer my questions and show me how to work the trains in buying. He always goes the extra mile to help and I definitely appreciate the help.I just wish more rolling stock was out on the shelves to peruse. Other than that I have been coming here almost weekly since getting into trains again. Not the best on the wallet but with the customer experience provided and the fun of new trains it’s hard to stay away.
This place is run by a bunch of guys who love model trains and dont care about customer service. Highly sarcastic, unhelpful, and just plain rude. Ended up buying what I needed online from Ebay and Amazon at a lower price. No need to go here unless you want to be treated like crap.
I live in Florida for the last 29 years and I always knew of this establishment. Visiting family on Long Island a few months ago I had to stop in for the first time.If youre into Lionel Trains as a hobby or want start the hobby as myself am, this is the place. Its floor to ceiling of train stuff with a very knowledgeable staff. There is other gauge and brands. If your visiting NY and are in that area this is a must go to place.
Just called this store to get some help. The guy who answered the phone was a sarcastic jerk and completely unhelpful. I told him that it was really unpleasant speaking to him and he clearly didnt care. He contradicted himself several times for no other purpose than to be antagonistic.I came away from this experience with no assistance or insight about trains. Looks like I will be making my purchase elsewhere.I would avoid these guys like the plague.
My experience at train land is all the trains you see is like a world where trains run across bridges tunnels speed thru stations collect passengers ship freight trains to there destinations and many more amazing sound effects of trains chugging wonderful smoke from funnels great announcements of conductors and train engineers driving there trains on duty and ready to roll these trains make me feel like a young boy and bring happiness and joy and I always come to train land to visit and see the trains run around the layouts the staff are wonderful people great family business by the bianco family know many trains in the store they can tell you all about the trains that costumers want to purchase they have wonderful knowledge and are wonderful friends and I will always be a wonderful train fan forever and ever
I went to Trainland to have my dad American Flyer Trains looked at want to give them back to him for Christmas only to have Sal tell me they were too busy the owner didn’t even have the common courtesy to come over and talk to me I’ll tell you what I would not have Sal work on my electric mixer !!!!
My first, and only transaction with Trainworld/Trainland.- On Dec. 2nd I tried placing an order for a few in stock items via the website. The website for some reason would not recognize my home address for the shipping. So I picked up the phone and called customer service. I was told my order would be processed and I would receive confirmation email shortly. Hung up the phone and was excited for my package to arrive.- On Dec. 5th, I called Trainworld again, wanting to follow up with my order since I didnt receive my confirmation email. Was put on hold and later told I would get a call back with an update as they couldnt find my order. Waited all day for a call back and didnt get one.- On Dec. 6th, I called Trainworld again, again asked for a follow up on my order, to which they werent able to give me one, placed on hold, was told I would get a call back again that day with an update. No call returned.- On Dec. 7th, I called Trainworld one last time. Again, customer service could not figure out where my items were, if they had shipped out, etc. Was placed on hold again, and was promised yet again a call back with an update at the end of the day. No call was returned. At this point, I considered my order cancelled and looked for my items elsewhere.- On Dec. 10th, my CC was charged for the items. Again, no phone call or email, etc from Trainworld notifying me of this.- On December 20th, a box from Trainworld arrived at my door step. It was the items I had tried ordering at the beginning of December. After I had already purchased them elsewhere.Still waiting to hear from Trainworld on how theyre going to make this right.Horrible communication and customer service.12/26/16 Update: I heard from Anthony at Trainworld today and was very apologetic for the mess up. I really appreciate when a vendor reaches out to see how they can fix a problem. And for that, I can now say they have earned my business next time I need something for my model railroad. Thanks again for Anthony for the phone call!
I visited TrainLand only once around January of this year, It was a memorable experience but more in the sense of a Vietnam flashback when Id have preferred a halcyon recollection of my childhood. I went because of its proximity to where my Girlfriend was living in Rockville Centre, thus I took her with me- upon being assisted by an older staffer he greeted us with a rather sarcastic attitude. His demeanor would eventually devolve over the course of our conversation, first when he questioned what I truly wanted to purchase from the store when I was originally quite sure (looking for some new O-72 curves) and then later when he questioned whether my Girlfriend had any right to be in the store considering her gender. This included some rather offensive sexist remarks, followed by his assurance that being offensive and politically incorrect is good because not enough people do it anymore these days- constantly mentioning that this was a trait hed instilled in his grandson. My girlfriend, being rather thick skinned did verbally remark some distaste for the situation at the time, but regrettably in the end I did purchase two pieces of track and perhaps some used track from the codger. To this day I regret my decision to remain passive in this situation, doing so leads to the prolongation of sexism, misogyny and other worthless societal vestiges that our clerk had managed to dredge up from wherever he came. True men empower women, or just generally ANYONE to pursue their interests rather than dissuade them, especially in a dying hobby like Model Railroading. Regardless of which I can only wish that he gets the help he needs in controlling his attitude and perhaps any measures to reduce a case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which he may have obtained in fighting for the freedom of our country in the past.I will do my best to avoid TrainLand when building the rest of my layout, and just as a reference to anyone who may have encountered a similarly hostile experience as I have dealt with- I can say (not as a statement of endorsement) that the staff at Willis Hobbies in neighboring Mineola has treated both myself and my girlfriend excellently in our trips there in the past.

2022-03-27Went here with my 3 boys who love trains, I walked in and we were all told to put masks on including my kids. I should have left immediately but my kids were excited to be there. Then one of my sons who is 5 touched a running train and got screamed at by the same guy who told us to put masks on. It was completely innocent, I was preoccupied with the masks and my 5 year old can’t fully read yet so didn’t notice the sign that said do not touch. Horrible place to bring kids and I would never buy anything here ever. Such a shame because I’d love to have a local place where my kids can further their love of trains. Looking elsewhere.

2022-04-22Trainworld is one of my favorite model train shops to visit and purchase from. Staff are knowledgeable, and prices are great. I will definitely be buying my trains from Trainland in the coming years.

2022-01-09This place provides terrible customer service. My husband purchased over $600.00 in that store today for our child who loves trains. The people in that store are rude and unfriendly. As a customer; it’s only natural to ask questions about an item that needs accessories. The people who work in there; look like they are frustrated with their jobs and taking it out on their customers. I have been to this store before since it is in the neighborhood but will definitely spend my money else where people appreciate their customers! I have no intention of returning and my advice to the owner is that he should ensure that his customers are treated with more courtesy and respect.

2020-06-14Ive been going here since I was a kid, the staff are super friendly, and they have quite a nice selection of Thomas the Tank Engine merchandise, although most of the stuff I collected as a kid is long gone sadly. Even so, its definitely one of my favorite stores on the Island.

2021-12-18Terrible service !!! Asked a salesman for a boxcar I was looking for. He told me “I should order online, I can’t help you because the store was too busy. Too many people here but you can look in this particular aisle to see if you can find it, and good luck with that.” WHAT ??? Then he just walked away from me. That’s when I walked out. NEVER going back and NEVER saying a good word about that store again. My money will be spent where it is appreciated.

2022-02-28This place is unbelievable. I came here a couple weeks ago with my friend who was visiting from out of state. I walked in without a mask and no one said a word. The following week, I came here with my 2 kids, and one of the employees says, you need a mask. He said thats our policy. I took my kids and walked out. Went to Nassau hobby in Freeport. Difference was night and day. None of the employees had masks. Friendly employees. They even let my kids run the train set they had on display. Furthermore, trainland doesnt even sell model planes or RC cars anymore. Nassau hobby has a great selection of model planes, ships, and boats, and RC cars. Great store. Trainland can go out of business for all I care.
