Awful service. Tons of pests. Their tanks are overun with aiptasias and algae. Their are like 2 guys in the entire staff that know anything about the hobby and the rest of the people ignore you when your waiting a half hour for their help. On top of the awfully kept tanks and terrible service, they are beyond overpriced, especially when your essentially paying them for dying livestock and pests in your tank. Your better off giving your business to a PetSmart or something.
I bought an axolotl here yesterday which is what i wanted for the longest time, they all are the nicest people ever and really helped me get what i needed and were so fun to talk to. i appreciate everyone who was working there yesterday and really made my whole night better they are so sweet and i will ONLY be going here from now on for everything i need i wish i could give them 100 stars for how sweet and caring they are and how much room they give all their animals in there. they’re perfect and i definitely recommend everyone go here 💜💜💜💜
I go all over long Island looking for aquarium stores, every weekend I try and go visit a new one to see what goodies I can put into my aquarium either fish or some beautiful decor .... I will tell you this place has some very fine clean looking tanks as well as some great incredible decor and the staff are true professionals- it was a pleasure doing business with these guys i strongly recommend visiting and shopping for all your aquarium needs here it is a great place ! Thanks guys
Very disappointing, I purchased new fish worth $130 about a week and a half ago. I have a 75 gallon tank which only had 2 plecos and a red shoulder severum which my son picked out when he was 1 and a half( 5 years ago)Fish is huge now and not doing to well because the new fish had ich and its all over everything. Crossing my fingers the medication will work.Update: Lost two of the new fish and also both of my plecos I have had for years.
Incredible selection of fish, friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff. Told staff the fish I was interested in, instead of just selling them to me, after looking closer, they pointed out that they looked kind of beat up and advised me I may want to pick others. Great customer service! Just the simple fact of bringing that to my attention was appreciated. Relatively new owner and definitely some old equipment in there, but owner had a large stack of new tanks he was getting ready to swap out. Found myself a new favorite fish store! Highly recommend this place
Let me first say that this is not intended to be an attack on a small business. I understand that there are a lot of challenges that go along with running a store during COVID, especially one that runs on livestock. That said, I stopped by here for the first time today. While the staff was very friendly, I have to say that I was really disappointed with the quality of the store. Poor lighting and inventory-crowded aisles made the store feel unwelcoming and cramped. Even worse, however, was the quality of the livestock. While the saltwater fish seemed mostly fine, a lot of freshwater fish seemed suffocated (probably poor water conditions) and remained listless at the bottom of the tanks. I dont know what the story behind the baby axolotl was, but it was frankly horrifying to see them in such dire conditions.I strongly advise that the store quarantine and medicate their fish. Though an expensive undertaking, better quality stock means more happy customers and more purchases. The least the store could do is clean up some inventory lying around and fix the lighting. I have no doubt that the store could be greatly improved. The staff seems knowledgeable but lacking passion.
I have to give a great review to this store. I went in there recently to buy a cure for the algae that had taken over my fish tank. I asked for some drops to add to the water and they proceeded to tell me to just cover the tank with a blanket for a week!! I laughed as I thought they were joking!! They weren’t so I went home and followed their instructions and a week later the tank us crystal clear! Other fish stores probably would have sold me drops to add, it these guys were so honest! Hats off to them!!
Love this store. Been there quite a few times and Im always going there to see some new specimens. The place is being renovated very often with tanks and equipment, but thats indicative that the owners care about their livestock and maintenance. They carry great options for both fresh and marine enthusiasts. Why go to a big box store when you can come here for something unique. Plants are especially amazing here. Cant wait to go back soon!
What can i say....First of all the guys that work here are awesome, no matter who you deal with they all are knowledgeable even if this or that one doesnt have the answer one of the others will have it. Ive been using them to come to my house and to maintain my 150 gallon african cichlid tank. i cant say enough how great my tank looks and how its been since Chris has been coming to our home and taking care of us. it really is a blessing to have them help us out, this is a huge tank and i work a lot, so even doing water changes are hard. my fish seem to be thriving because of this, they are growing so fast and seem to be much happier. Chris is great, always there when i call and has much advise. i would recommend anyone who have aquariums to have these guys come and do your tanks even if you have a single fish the price is worth the cost because they know what they are doing. i can build a house but taking care of a tank this big was just overwhelming, now i can sit back after a hard day turn on the lights and just enjoy them. Thanks guys you are awesome......
Used to be the best place to buy fish, now Im very disappointed. Tanks are dirty, the store is dark and all messed up, the fish do not look Healthy. I realize it cannot be easy being a small business owner in NY, but there are not a lot of really good places to buy fish from. Most serious hobbyists do not buy from Petco or Petsmart. I bought a dwarf African from from them once, turned out to be a African clawed frog, big difference!!
This store is amazing! They have a very large range of Saltwater and freshwater fish. Gene the owner helps a newbie like me setup my tank and answers all my questions.I definitely recommend everyone to stop on in and take a look.If he doesnt have he will order it for you.
Went to this store for the first time the other day... the younger guy who works there was pretty helpful he bagged some fish and answered some questions with a good attitude. The woman on the counter was helpful too and answered some questions about a filter. The price was high $11 for a blue gourami compared to $3 at the pet store. Anyways I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a very good selection of fish and plants.
Tropical sho case has a great collection of tanks that kept clean and the fish are in good health. Very rarely you will see a dead fish in their tanks which shows that they routinely monitor their stock. The down side is their fish can be a bit pricey but you do pay for what you get a you really cant complain about that.
Based on the reviews I almost didnt even drive over there but having an hour to kill I decided to give it a shot and I am glad I did. The man working was very cordial and respectful to me.The selection that this pet store offers is pretty impressive. They have a number of tropical fish that you dont see everyday. For example, veil tail Oscars. You really dont see that fish very often. The were a number of different African Cichlids although some of them were not exactly in the greatest condition. I cant really speak to the marine fish. They also have an angel show tank with a huge footprint. Never seen anything like that.To the person who got their cichlid tank wiped out by disease contracted from this store, sorry that happened but you didnt do your research. When buying a fish it should always be quarantined for a period (2 weeks min) first or else you are seriously risking your established tank.I will agree that some of the tanks could look healthier but this store is definitely still worth a visit.
Im not sure what everyone is complaining about on here, I for one am very pleased with this place. After searching for a good fish store I finally found one worth coming back to every time. The selection of fish and plants they have are like no other. All of their staff were very friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. I would definitely recommend going there for anyone in search of a great fish store to keep coming back to.
If I could I would give NO STAR !!!!I spent $130 on Saturday on 5 tiger tetras and 5 tiger glo fish not even 8 hours later all of my fish died but one . ..... I called the next morning and they couldn’t even give any credit or a refund after spending over $100 there and it was my last dollar ..... but when I called the man who answered all he had to say was he cannot give a refund or any credit but may I come in to test my water for free and bring in all of my dead fish so he can feed his big fish there ... like are you kidding me ???? I need to return the merchandise but why can’t you return my money?????????? Losers
My experience with Tropical Showcase was so so. The help wasnt the greatest. After being the only person in the store for 20 minutes and 4 people working I had to finally ask someone if they could bag some fish for me. The girl who helped me had no clue about anything, fish, pricing, etc. The owner Ro I believe was her name was, was not friendly at all. I finally got one of the young kids that other wrote about in previous reviews and they were as nice as could be and were really helpful. As for the place itself its what you would expect from a mom-pop fish store which is a plus in my book. The only real downside to the place is you will feel like you are bothering the people that work there if you want something. Their prices are also not the greatest. So if you are looking for a specialty fish Id recommend, but if you want your plain old neons, tiger barbs etc go to the bigger chains for better pricing.
Large selection in both freshwater and saltwater. They have a ton of tanks and the tanks are pretty clean considering they have to upkeep so many tanks. They can get in some pretty rare and cool fish such as the ribbon eel and the walking catfish. But they dont sell any coral there but they do sell macro algae and sharks which I found pretty interesting. They also sell a selection of turtles, frogs, newts and other amphibians. They have pretty healthy fish and I havent seen one fish that was sick there surprisingly. They have good selection of dry goods also and carry about everything youll need for an aquarium there. But talking to the store owner I find the store owners information is very outdated and hes been working there for so long he doesnt like fish keeping anymore and is just there for the money now. They also post regularly on their facebook page of pics of the fish. They also have a chow chow there that the store owner lets walk around the counter. Would definitely recommend going there for the first time aquarist and the freshwater and saltwater enthusiast.
Do not go to this place!!!! Over the weekend, my boy friend and I bought several cichlids to put in our already well-established tank. Over the course of the week, weve lost 5 fish due to a fungal/bacterial infection. Our tank is on ICU-lock-down because the fish we bought from this place were diseased. The fish were absolutely fine when we brought them home and got them acclimated to the tank. But, some started to die suddenly without showing immediate signs of illness. We did some research and discovered that the fish have a fungal/bacterial infection.Today some of the other fish started showing signs. Theyre exhibiting the following symptoms: lack of appetite, lethargy, lay on the bottom of the tank, and have white patches along the sides of their bodies and mouths. Only 2 out of the 5 fish we brought home are still alive. The rest, including a few old fish which have been there since the tanks establishment, have died in the course of a week. Today we flushed 2 more down the toilet. Its absolutely heartbreaking to see all these fish go in the matter of a few days. The tank was established in April of this year, and we have NEVER lost a single fish until this week, and the water levels are mint.We should have realized not to buy fish from this place because it was dirty and they probably never change the water or feed the fish properly. Some of the marine fish look diseased and in pain, and pricing is insane. We are never going there again, and we hope this review helps those to make a wise decision never to go there either. They only thing they have going for them is a good selection of freshwater and marine fish.
This store isnt so bad..never had a problem with any of the staff.they answered all my questions without attitude and im sure they hear the same question over and over.newbies do some reading on fish keepingbefore you do anything aquarium related.it will make your fish keeping experiencea whole lot better.
Ive been in twice. I was not impressed. Nobody said hello and the place is a fire hazard on one side did not even feel like a store. Overheard a woman asking if the angelfish were for sale and the guys answer was no because its too hard to get them out of the big tank? There are other options for fish stores.
The two older ones,Im guessing to be the manager or store owners? They are rude and give very little eye contact and dont reply well, attitude, and not helpful whats so ever and like how everyone else describes them. BUT! And a big but,If you get help from the younger employes, its a lot more better Very True, however they do have a large selection of fish, and aquarium related projects. Better off going here rather then Petco or pet supplies for Aquarium specific things...
I bought Tropical fish from many different retailers when I first started the hobby 3 years ago.. for the last year and a half now I now ONLY purchase from here.. the fish are well maintained and the staff here are experts and they know fish. Ask questions to ensure you are putting the fish in the right water parameters and with other fish that can stay in the same community. Always feels good supporting the local mom/pop shops .... Hats off to the staff here!!! thank you!!!

2022-06-21I bought here a betta fish and I am happy with my purchase. The guy working was very friendly and helpful. He answered all my questions. Can’t complain about the price for my betta, was very cheap. They have a big selection on fish and anything you need to set up a tank. There is a parking lot in front of the store.

2022-01-25Great shop. Knowledgeable and willing to help you make YOUR tank. They will help guide you to whats best without trying to sell you things you do not need. Also, prices are comparable to any corporate pet shop, plus you get professional knowledge included.

2021-12-30What a great place for hobbyists. Especially nowadays that big stores like Petco and Petsmart either closing down or dont care about for the fish hobby. You can find anything you want, aquariums, livestock and everything in between.

2020-11-11I would give them 10 STARS if I could. Customer service is second to none. I bought a tank and stand from them and there was a manufacturers defect in the tank. I couldnt get anywhere trying to deal with the manufacturer on my own. These guys stepped in and handled it and it was replaced. The entire staff is very helpful. They have a large supply of accessories too. The selection of fish is high quality too. It is the only place I will buy fish for my tank.

2021-05-26Picked up a few catfish and a snail. Huge selection of fish, much more than the chain pet stores and fish are much healthier. Got my first tank from there 25 years ago. Happy to support a local small business.
