I was able to get the rental within minutes. The gentleman at the counter was courteous and patient while I tried to sort out what type of rental I was going to need. Ran into a small issue after rental but the manager was attentive, professional and was able to provide me with a great solution. Overall satisfied.
My husband and I sent our UBox to this location. These guys put up with us over the course of 3 days and they were always friendly and extremely helpful! We were helped by about 5 people, with a couple of the people working mostly in the warehouse and moving trucks around being the most helpful. We rented a van to move our stuff out of the UBox and that experience was also smooth. All in all, a good experience for newcomers to the city!
I had a great experience at this Uhaul location renting a moving van and equipment. The sales associate was super friendly and prepared for my 9am appointment time and they had tons of vans and moving trucks. There was no line on a very busy moving weekend. Dropping off was also extremely easy -- it took about five minutes to do the inspection and sell back the boxes that I didnt use. Highly recommended!
First google review I have ever written.... I rented a U-Haul and included my partner and myself on the rental. When I went to pick up the van after hours (the location was already closed), the online verification would not work. First, the equipment was not prepared for me. Then, I faced issues with verifying my identity. I submitted multiple photos of myself, my work badge, and upon request, tried to submit a copy of my lease to prove I live in NYC, but the platform was not able to receive the photo. I tried to verify my identity for 45 minutes, speaking to someone online and on the phone. Finally, they directed me to the Bronx, where a manager was able to verify my identity in person. He told me that the online verification system is glitchy and they could not verify me because I had put two people on the rental agreement--so the whole time they had been trying to verify my partner as me. This was never mentioned to me while I tried to verify myself for 45 minutes. The location I had to drive to to get verified in person was further (read: higher costs) and made me 1 hour and 15 minutes late to pick up furniture we purchased. I did not receive any discount or apology for this experience.
I have never written a review in my life but this was a horrible experience. If I could this would be zero stars... As if moving werent difficult enough. I had requested a cargo van for noon, then the night before got an email it had to be moved to 2PM. Fine whatever, at least they bothered to let me know. When I get there I ended up leaving closer to 4PM, completely ofsetting my moving schedule. The guy, Mohammad was his name, completely messed everything up. Turns out he gave my van to the wrong person and refused to let me take the other van. He didnt own up (barely took responsibility, hence the quotes) until much much later when I finally realized what was going on. By a pure miracle it turns out the person who had taken what was supposed to be my van was closeby still. The Uhaul person calls them and threatens to charge them an extra $3 per mile if they dont bring the van back. Sure, this wasnt my problem, but I think its very dishonest he even said that to another customer. So the guy brings the van back after having already pumped gas in... He talks to Mohammad about this, clearly very upset, and he says its fine when he returns the van he will reimburse him... TURNS OUT, all that meant is that he was going to charge ME the cash aside from my VISA transaction. Super sketchy!! I refused to do this and he proceeded to call me CHEAP. Excuse me?! I will not pay for your mistakes sir, especially after your very rude demeanor. Needless to say he continued to be incredibly rude the whole time and said he hoped I had a horrible day. (nice!) I was on the phone the whole time with a uhaul rep and she was also disgusted by this. I cant believe this man still can own this franchise. There are far more deserving business owners in the area that should be running a Uhaul franchise. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!! HE will try to scam you and mess up your WHOLE moving schedule. Sidenote: I did nothing to merit this reaction from him aside from being upset/stressed I was losing money on my movers who were waiting for me to return with the truck. He was rude and impersonal from the start.
A great place with nice staff! We rented a truck for the day, but didnt realize that this place closes at 5 pm so my friend rush the truck back to the place and they were still there after hours, my friend told me and I shouldve known that they are closed for inquiries but still open to take the truck back. This is by far the best business Ive been to. Just make sure you call ahead and schedule a time to pick up the truck.
I have a reservation in another location, when I get there on time the guy who was in there he sent me to this location because all the vans was in this location, that made me get late t the another place, when I get there I have to wait in the line for almost 45 minutes, then when I get to the counter this guy, his name(Dave or something like that) he told me I was late so I lost my reservation so instead of start a new process with me he want me to go back to the line and wait again after he finish with all the people and then see if he got something left!!😠😠. I make the reservation the day before and add my whole information so I know was a van for me but he was so rude with a lot of attitude and messed up my whole day!!! I didnt get the van so I dont was able to do what I supposed to do!! He was racist!! I dont understand how companies like this have employees with this kind of customer service!! Thats no good at all!!
Sad to say my experience was one that will never be forgotten n that everyone should take heed to me n my pregnant wife were our on r final day to vacate our apt I reserve the U-Haul online thinking I would get the code to the lock box n were set WRONG!!! I stood outside for a hour in the blistering NYC cold trying to the get the keys for the U-Haul taking pictures of ourselves over n over bc I had on a hat it’s 2:30 AM & A 19 windy shivering degrees on a dark east Harlem block ..speaking to customer service as to why my reservation can’t be completed to then be denied access bc of failure to pass some color test I could barley hold up my phone to then have to tap a screen for some test after standing outside for a hour freezing trying to keep my wife warm my fingers were frost bitten how can I tap a damn screen I can’t feel my fingersnot to mention the strange intoxicated man I had to ward off from talking to my wife ...when dealing wit this after hour access stuffU-Haul will only give U-Hell !!!!
The WORST! This place refused to accept my rental although I was scheduled to return it to them. Your contract is meaningless to them if they have filled their lot, and they wash their hands of you! It is incredible to me that the owner is still part of the U-Haul franchise. AVOID THIS CRAPPY COMPANY.
Atrocious service. We were not told that we could not drive the car on the parkway. The window was busted because it could not fit on the parkway. The retail agent was hostile, told us we were dumb for using Google maps to guide us, didnt think he needed to have told us about the restrictions beforehand, claimed we should have known beforehand that this was a commercial vehicle, and then refused to provide a copy of the terms and conditions to us (after the fact).
Easy pick-up, plenty of street side parking for returns. After-Hour returns is possible through the Uhaul website but instructions are very vague and unclear. Lockbox is not marked, its a simple box outside the office combination locks on it. You have to squeeze your truck keys into this slot until you hear it drop down behind the lock. Hope that helps someone.
My first time experience was a gr8t one....the 2 gentlemen that dealt with me were very helpful & professional when I reserved the truck, picked up the truck & dropped it off! I would use this location again & refer my family & friends as well! Not to mention their prices were affordable!!!!
The lady at the register has a very bad attitude and seems too self absorbed to give straight answers to simple questions. I tolerated it because this rental service was the only nearby one that could help but now I see that it’s not the only option. This lady sucks and if you don’t want to deal with her go to any of the other superior rental places relatively nearby
I booked a van 5 days in advance and selected this location for pickup. the afternoon before pickup i get an email saying the closest place for pickup is in the bronx. Apparently when you make a reservation at U-Haul, its just a preference not any guarantee that youll get what you asked for, or where you asked for.Never again!
Excellent customer services, the bad thing is that they never teach you what the vehicle has, you have to find out for yourself, the price is not what they put in the vehicles, they always vary, and if you miss something it is difficult to Recover it but not impossible.

2022-09-04Ive reserved a truck here three times in the last two months. I have had excellent experiences. One time my requested truck size was not available, so they auto-reserved a truck at a nearby place (no extra charge, no obligation to complete the transaction). The other two times my requested truck size was ready to go.The staff has been more or less efficient, but always professional and less than 10 minutes of processing once you arrive. I have brought back the truck 2 hours late without additional charge.You should do the normal things. Document the gas level and be a good person and fill it back to at least that level. Check for any existing damage and use the web interface check-out on your phone to take photos of any existing damage. I like this local business and Im sure I will use them again for my in-town moving needs.I see a lot of complaints on the list here for things that are the responsibility of the renter. Know your route, know your tolls, refill the gas as it belongs.

2022-08-30Actually 0 stars but unfortunately thats not an option. By far the worst U-Haul location i ever had to make a reservation for. disrespectful, rude, and dismissive front desk employee (male) because i was an hour late for my reservation due to an emergency during my move-in day 8/13, resulting in them canceling my reservation automatically as a result.fortunately, i was able to rent the cargo van i requested however was only able to receive 1 dolly i rented as opposed to 2, despite reserving those over a week in advance. i was fully aware of being late for a reservation, however, U-Haul employees should be aware that unexpected events and emergencies can occur. moving and renting a van as well as other items is stressful enough. the last thing i need and wont tolerate is constantly being told you should be lucky you were able to get anything after you were over an hour late disrespectfully even after i thanked them and told them i appreciated them providing me anything.in addition afterwards, my driver had a difficult time pulling out the van due to being too crammed in between another van and a wall, and wasnt given further assistance. once the reservation was used, i filed a formal complaint calling the customer service line and didnt hear back. ended up having to call them again to follow up and one of the reps was being rude and said that U-Haul customer service called me back on 8/15 (didnt receive any calls from them that day). filed another formal complaint via live online chat 8/26 and was told theyd email the supervisor of that U-Haul location and theyll reach out to me. ive never received word from the supervisor since my complaint.since then, no accountability has been taken into account and ill move on from this matter as U-Haul as a whole just doesnt care. only writing this review so others can avoid this location and U-Haul altogether for its poor customer service.

2022-06-09I had a horrific experience at this location, at 117th St. I rented a 10-foot truck from this location, one that was an in town rental, AKA, it had to be returned to this same location. When I brought the truck back well before my return time (3PM), associate Dave told me, rudely, they had no room for my truck and to leave their establishment. They sent me all the way to the Bronx location at Grand Concourse, where they also had no room. There, the owner let me know about the in town situation. They alerted me that if I dropped my truck off anywhere else, I would receive a tripled fee of what I originally paid. They sent me back to 117th street, where they not only yelled at me, but at my father as well. It took me entering the building and repeating that this was an in town rental about ten times for them to realize that in fact, this was their problem. This location, Sam, and his other female associate working at 2:30PM ET on 6/8 were EXTREMELY rude to me, wasted my time, my gas, and ruined my experience with Uhaul.

2022-01-25Be aware of last minute cancellations! Our initial reservation was cancelled when we were on our way to pick up the truck. We then had to prance around customer support, reaching a few dead ends, before we could actually find a location that had an available van. That delayed our plans for 2h, but we were still able to finish our move in 1 day.

2021-08-06These guys are awesome! I have to say when I go into establishments in my neighborhood I’m always anticipating to be underserved but that was absolutely the opposite in this case. The gentleman that worked here were courteous and kind. Dave was a big help and I’m so sorry I can’t remember the young man’s name with the braids but he was awesome as well. If you’re in Harlem and you’re debating on which U-Haul branch to use you must go to 220 E. 117th St. for sure.

2020-08-17This place was great. Was able to make a reservation online and extend my reservation very easily. I have to say the guy who works there Named Manny was super helpful and very kind. It was a Sunday and really busy. About 5 to 6 people waiting in line with reservations and get handled it very well and went above and beyond with each and every customer. With the same exceptional and friendly customer service to everyone equally without seeming frustrated or overwhelmed. Great worker you guys have ! He is a keeper for sure. An asset to the company.

2021-11-30Loved the staff, loved the cargo van I rented. I didnt know the van was a manual with the shifter on the gear shaft, so lets say check around before you try to get on the fdr drive

2021-06-16Almost good. Gas tank is never full which will be a headache to guess the level it was ending up filling more or paying cash (very expensive) for a a little bit you could miss when filling gas to return truck. What a trick. Document very well the gas level.

2019-08-23This location gets pretty crowded in the morning (lots of people trying to get their truck as soon as they open). Its small so there werent a lot of people working leading to a pretty long line, but honestly, it wasnt a big deal at all. The employees were nice and they were going as fast as they could. The area inside is air conditioned so the wait wasnt terrible (~30 min). Trucks were easy to get and in good condition!
