I went once on Oct. 2021 and everything was superb, the atention and the store overall. My husband went last Saturday (June 4th. 2022) and he had a really detailed list of what I wanted him to purchase. He didnt have any idea how to grab the items or where to look at, so he asked a salesperson if she could help him. She did but she got everything wrong!! the sizes, the tones of the products... My husband trusted her and left the store. When he got home I saw that almost everything was wrong. We cannot return the items because we dont live in the US.
I always joked that even though Sephora is top dog, Ill always try to shop at Ulta first. Im getting married and my MIL gave me a bunch of money to buy a lot of cosmetics for myself (as her wedding gift to me) and with all the deals that Ulta has, I really got a MASSIVE HAUL. They had a serious discount on Morphe palette and also on the Mac Lipsticks. I feel that Ulta carries more affordable brands and also has cool offers every now and then.
This location 100% discriminates against black people. If you’re black go to another location it’s 100% worth it. I came in after placing an order online for pick up. My i’d was checked 3 times i watched the pick up before me that did not happen. After picking up I decided to look around the store every where i went a different group of employees followed me whispered on their mic pieces. When i asked for help no one wanted to help. Yet you can tail me around the store make it make sense. It was so uncomfortable i returned everything i purchased and repurchased them at Sephora and Macys. It’s 2022 it’s extremely disgraceful for your employees to demonstrate such behavior. The staff at this store are complete losers. You work at Ulta not a luxury retailer humble yourselves
I was blessed to schedule my eyebrow appointment with EDERLIN. A little back story, I have crippling eczema and have had a really bad reaction to a withdrawal of injection therapy. I literally looked like a burn victim in my face for over two weeks. I tried everything even steroid creams from my dermatologists. Once I sat in the chair she expressed that I would be better off doing a regular tweezing because my skin wouldn’t react well to my waxing. After my service, Ederlin asked if I would be interested in some product recommendations for my face. I accepted and she walked me to two brands (other than benefit) and I trusted her entirely. I purchased the items and tried them once I got home. I’m crying writing this review because I can’t even express the difference She made in my life. My skin did a 360 in a matter of half a day. The redness and peeling have subsided almost immediately. I will be eternally grateful. Ulta and this benefit brow bar have a customer for life. Employees like her deserve all the praise in the world. You can tell she loves what she does and is very knowledgeable. I loved her.
I went to the salon at Ulta on 34th St. on May 10 and had a hair cut with Thomas V. I wasn’t going to write a review, but my hair is so uneven, and I’m furious that I have to now pay somebody else to fix it. I feel like It would be wrong not to warn people.Do not book an appointment with Thomas V.He should not have a license to cut hair as he does not know how to. The manager did try to correct my hair before I left, but he blew dry it in such a way forward that we couldn’t tell how uneven the haircut was. Additionally he just happens to be rude and unprofessional. Showed up 20 minutes late for an appointment with no apology. Got an unexplainable attitude with me about washing my hair, and I can go on, but I’ve made my point.DO NOT BOOK A HAIRCUT WITH THOMAS V, you have been warned.
The hair stylists here are extremely rude and unprofessional. I booked an appointment several weeks prior and when I came they last minute said they can’t offer the service I wanted which went from $200 to $400. That’s outrageous. No amount of skill Craig has can ever amount to $400. The stylist, Craig seemed islamaphobic and then said I was unprepared for not bringing enough money. Had I known that they last minute changed services and informed me, I would not have come. Get your hair done elsewhere
Scheduled a 3pm appointment for eyebrow wax as my normal place was unavailable and i needed a wax for an event. Arrived 10min early and asked if I could be taken early, they radioed down and the aesthetician was on her break and would be up for the 3pm. No problem figured it was a long shot asking so i sit and wait by the station - by 3:10 she still is not up, I ask an associate what the deal is and am told “she will be here in a little bit”.Sorry what?? I had an appointment and you knew that i was waiting for you. Incredibly rude and not considerate of my time at all. I walked out and let them know why i was leaving. UNBELIEVABLE- never coming here again.
This may have been my favorite location to visit to ulta. Its bright and well light, all of the items are organized, stocked and well laid out. The best part was the wonderful staff. I spoke with about 8 different members of the team for various reasons, but they were all fun, knowledgeable and most of all helpful. I cant recall the womans name who walked me through the Ordinary lines for different aged women, but she was truly a gem. I cant wait to be back soon!
I rarely write reviews but going to stores lately and having 5 associates accost you within a 5 minute span to racially profile you is getting old. I used to love Ulta and would go out of my way to go their store instead of Sephora. Being followed in stores is an issue that I am having to contend with more and more lately. And I am coming to the conclusion that shopping less and keeping my money to myself is the way to go. And this goes to any person of color, especially black people. Don’t support an establishment that treats like a thief because of your skin color. I won’t ever step foot I that store again.
The customer service at this location is actually appalling. Majority of the staff are quite pretentious like you work retail for a living get a get out over yourself. You should actually look in the mirror and be appalled that with all life has to offer you spend majority of it selling overpriced cosmetics to ppl.
Definitely rather go to the one on 86 street than to make the trip down to this location … if you’re African American prepare to be followed the whole time you’re shopping and as soon as you pick up something , workers come running up to you as if everyone goes there to steal . Been here a handful of times and it has happened each and every time . Being tailed as you go from aisle to aisle makes the overall shopping experience extremely uncomfortable and pushes people from wanting to give their money . And as you can see it has happened to multiple people of the same demographic . 86 street is way more welcoming and the workers there are more helpful .
Nice large location. Super bright, hand sanitizer is everywhere, a very good selection, and the staff are attentive without being overly so. Despite being in a high traffic area, at no point did it feel crowded despite a large number of people.I ended up buying mascara and a dark spot corrector which luckily was on sale. I went with my best friend and we were able to get all our questions answered without feeling pressured to buy anything.Its a nice alternative to Sephora especially for hard to find items and drug store brands to do a proper comparison. All in all a great experience.
If you go here for a blowout or style....you MUST see Tarin. She has been doing my hair for years and is always amazing. She listens to what I want and when I dont know what I want....she just makes it look amazing. So nice and personable too. Highly recommend Tarin:)
I’m a loyal customer to Ulta and just wanted to leave my review here. I live in Queens and usually visit the Glendale and Rosedale locations and always pleased with the customer service. My first time visiting this location today. I went here because the app told me some items I wanted to pick up were available here. I went in the store , while the girls were friendly, they all follow you like big brother. Secondly, after I was having a hard time locating product number 1, I asked the associate for help. The app showed me it was in stock at this location. She never heard of the product or brand before and asked another associate for help. She never heard of it as well. Associate went to get help. Came back and told me she could help me order it to pick up in store, which doesn’t make sense at all because if I am doing an in store pick up , it means you have the product available in store somewhere? I told her I will just do it online later. I continued to browse. I had trouble locating another product that the app told me is available in store. I asked the same associate and another associate, they both told me they don’t know and have never heard of that brand before.At this point, I just decide to check out what I have. When it’s my turn at the register , the product wouldn’t scan. Seems like cashier is trying and has some problem with entering the batch code from the bar code. She calls for help and then ventures off for a bit to go see how she can fix the issue. She comes back to the register. She tries again. Fails. I ask her if she wants me to grab a new product. she says yes. I grab a new product. still doesn’t work. I feel a bit frustrated now but I know it’s not her fault. I told her don’t worry about it, I will just place an order online for what I need. I went home to Queens and visited the Glendale location and all was well.
Jeffery! Please go find Philosophy purity face wash and exfoliating wash! It works wonders absolutely amazing. Philosophy has been around many years but due to the trends everyone focus on it doesn’t not get the attention it deserves. Jefferey is amazing he helped me and also sent me away with tons of love! He is there on the weekends mostly but he will guide and help you into finding a great facial routine that will bring you great results!
I would love to compliment the beautiful and gracious Ms. Sabrina from the Herald square location. I came in for the first time and she helped me right away. She helped me to find all of the items I was looking for and she matched my makeup to my complexion beautifully.
Wow. I went in with my sister to smell some perfumes and left upset and irritated because we were watched the entire time. Any movement we made was eyed and as we moved from aisle to aisle workers moved with us. As you may have guessed, we are black hispanic women. Before approaching the perfume aisle, there were various white people smelling and having a ball in the area. No employees in sight till me and my sister came along. My boyfriend was there to buy my a perfume, which he did. To my dismay, we gave them money. Shaking my head
Kai, Kai, Kai!Today was my first time in Ulta.I’ve had very bad experiences with Sephora’s customer experience so I was somewhat hesitant. Wondered if my previous experiences were the norm. I found out quickly, after meeting Kai, that my previous unpleasant experiences were not the norm. At least not today, lol!Kai, was professional, informative, personal and extremely pleasant. She has the type of personality that makes a customer want to come back and see if she is working on that day. I mean that in a non creepy way, lol.So yeah, in a nutshell, clone Kai. Or at least her personality and disposition.
WORST SALON EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE! I Went to go get my natural hair straightened and trimmed, and left with my hair being uneven and Half an inch apart in length . When cutting my hair she had me turn away from the mirror so I couldn’t see how much she was cutting on the right side,before she cut my hair the right side of my hair was longer than my left, now because she cut off so much off of the right side, it’s half an inch shorter than the left, she literally cut off a big chunk of my hair, because I was wearing a sweater I couldn’t see how much she had cut off or how drastic it was until I got home and took my sweater off.
Just got my hair done by the lovely, Tre!🥰I got a detox treatment, blowout, and straightening (basically a silk press). This was hand down one of my favorite hair experiences ever. I trusted him completely to take care of my hair. As a black women, I never had good experiences at salons when it came to natural hair. Yet, with Tre, you not only get amazing service, but you are also educated on how to take care of your hair. I am now a new loyal customer!
I had been looking forward to visiting this location which facility use to be my favorite H&M location. This Ulta store is HUGE,airy and super supplied with a dazzling array of beauty products. I found exactly what I came in for. My only critique is the check out line. It takes a while to figure out where to que up to pay. The entry point need a redo.
I had a haircut from Tarin @ HERALD SQUARE location and she was fabulous! She took the time to listen to me and gave me the haircut of my dreams. You can tell she is very passionate about her craft and spent many years educating herself on her technique. Highly recommend!
So I initially went to Ulta last week just to buy some make up. I complemented one of the store associates hair and she informed me that she actually got it done on- site on the second floor. Apparently this location offers hair services. I went yesterday on a whim. I was treated so well by Tre!!! He is really knowledgeable, super kind, and was was explaining what he was doing to my hair as he was styling. The location is clean and Tre fixed the mess of a cut I used to have. Thanks so much!!!
This was my first time ever shopping in an ulta beauty shop and my experience was NOT very warm welcoming at all. This company in my humble opinion needs to train their staff on the concepts of unconscious bias. I was only spoken to by the greeter at the door and the cashier as I was checking out. There were so many staff members having conversations amongst themselves and not one of the sales representatives on the floor (including management) asked me if I needed assistance of any kind. I have been in management in retail and I know what customer service is supposed to look like. Unfortunately this was not represented in this location there for I feel I will stick to shopping at saphora.
This was one of the worst experiences in my entire life So today i experienced a transaction FROM HELL. I always chose Ulta beauty when it comes to reward points beauty deals or best bday options or chose .. but today i literally had to Woosah myself . I was rang up by a employee not sure if she was fairly new or what . I picked up a few small items and skin care to be able to utilize my bday deal or options when she rang the total it came to 70$(way over my budget ) so o took about 4 items off the transaction to my understanding u can’t join more than one coupon . So i had a 10$ coupon off 40$ from a magazine tear out and 6$ reward which brought my transaction down to $36Some how her machine jammed with my transaction and didn’t print the receipt after about 7 mins of shuffle we realized WASNT OUT PAPERSHE called her manager over to see if i can still use some of our back items to utilize the other 10$ off on my account for bday .So i was frustrated i chose one of the put back items which made my transaction $6.53No the first transaction which jammed i was charged but after reviewing receipt the 6 rewards on my app and the 10$ coupon didn’t even come off that 🤬🤬so now I’m angry because at this point I’m work with a manager .She told me in order to do my purchase i would have to return all the items from my transaction and has to go over $40 for the 10$ off 🤕🤕So you know what yes we will do that return it all and add some so now paid 3$ differenceBirthday experience from hell that i guess was justified with sample items 🙄🤥
Got my hair done by Tre, it is the best cut, treatment and blowout I’ve ever received! He really knows what he’s talking about and what he’s doing. My hair has never felt better! I definitely recommend booking with him for your hair service! I will be back for a color service!
Friendly environment, but one of the lady misguided me on one product. She told me the Proactive+ ( plus) was the one with a higher dose , I goggle it and find out that the first and Original Proactive is the one with the higher dose. So when youre not sure of something or you dont know, please 🥺 ask your supervisor or an expert to answer
Tre is an amazing hair artist! He did my hair color and took great care in protecting my curls. He does color, cuts, extensions, helps with the maintenance of the hair, and color corrections. He is honest and has a great personality as well. I’m so glad he is in Ulta!
Went here with my girlfriend to pick up some skincare products... the blemish patches we tried to buy were clearly labelled as being on sale for $4.99, but when they were rung up, we were charged over $9. The cashier convinced us that we had misread the sign and gave us a significantly smaller pack for $6 (which is still more expensive than the original product we had tried to buy!) On our way out, we re-checked the sign, and what do you know! We hadnt misread it. They clearly mislabeled the product as cheaper than it really is to get people to take it to the counter, hoping theyd be too socially anxious or zoned out to notice. This is ILLEGAL. We will not be purchasing goods from this company ever again.
I would never come back to this Ulta your employee Katherine likes to watch black people in the store and greet customers that are non minorities . To many employees are just standing around and not even give recommendations, but they were a few that are kind and truly want to give you a better experience. They act as if this is the highest beauty retail in the store and have such a stuffy and awkward atmosphere. It baffles me in NYC with such a diverse location that this place will act like this. I personally will not come here or recommendation this location to others. Its terrible that one has to even have to receive this treatment. Do yourself a favor and take your money to saks and fifth or Sephora for a better experience or if you want to experience a Ulta that operates functionally check out the one on the UES.
I go to the Herald Square Salon location to see Tarin. She is the only person I trust to cut my hair and I am very particular. Tarin is always patient and takes time to make sure she understands what I want. She is very professional and gentle. I always walk out feeling amazing. Highly recommend Tarin for a cut or updo. She has styled me for parties as well, and I get so many compliments.
I never like to provide my email or phone number at stores because I work in security and I know where that information goes. This usually isnt an issue. However, this is the second time going into an Ulta store that the employee made a huge deal out of it. Are you guys handing out bonuses for peoples private information?! This time the employee started blessing me out in Spanish. I speak Spanish 🙄 This is NYC. Most people speak Spanish. If you need to pray to God for patience cause people are trying your nerves by expecting you to click one extra button at check out, youre probably in the wrong job.
Im super excited. I am love so much my new hair. This is my first time trying such a bright hair color and I chose the amazing Hairstylist Trenell Greene in the best salon. The best Hairstylist and now I trust my hair only to him. In such a short time, he created such beauty with me. Im very grateful! Tre understood what I want. He’s are the best . Recomend for everybody.
Lots of products but service is questionable waited in front of the desk of the person at the hair area waiting to make an appointment and he never talk to me until I asked are you still helping your coworker? He replied yes not sure how he was helping her as she was the one doing something and he was watching......oh thats right by watching her
My Coworker took me here after work one day, i didnt even know this was around. 34th street looks so different to me, especially now since a lot of businesses relocated and others didnt survive Covid-19. I come here for the Baby Foot Exfoliation Peel and the Dashing Diva nail strips!
The security and employees followed me around and harassed me. I payed for all my products and never gave them the indication that I was stealing something. I consistently asked questions to employees while they judged and harassed me. Unprofessional and incredibly hurtful especially when your a paying customer.
My sister and I drove from Upstate NY just so Tre can do our hair. I have been a customer of Tre for a very time and he never seems to disappoint. Not only does Tre do a great job on styling and treatment for your hair, he also teaches you how to take care of your hair between visits.I will be visiting Ulta Beauty in New York City a lot more so Tre can do his magic.
My haircut with Tarin at ULTA Herlad Square was a great experience. I have long hair and it’s always a journey to get it cut. I appreciate Tarin’s stamina and her positive attitude throughout. I love the way my hair came out and it’s much more manageable now. She took the time to make sure everything looked great, even after the blowout. 100% will come back to see Tarin!
Rather than assisting me or asking if I needed help, workers followed me around the store and watched me, pretending to look at shelf items, as a minority, a white or white passing employee following me and profiling does not at all improve the experience of a paying customer.

2022-08-07I have found a high quality hair product in their website, they had a option to pick up in the store. This i avoided shipping charges. Very convenient. I was in the area anyways. They have a dedicated order pickup room and dedicated person there. Pick up was smooth and quick. She has a very positive attitude and polite. Floor manager (She) overlooking everything quirky. Comforting! Store was organized and they had basics as well as very high end products. I had a pretty good experience ! Keep up the good work. By the way music was NOT loud, thank you for that…

2022-08-16I was very excited to try Ulta’s hair services because it seemed very professional and… what could possibly go wrong at Ulta? I won’t display the stylist’s name because degrading someone for their work isn’t something I would like to do, but I’m sure she will recognize her work. I just don’t understand how my hair went from what I asked to what I got, before she did anything to me we obviously discussed what I WANTED (a trim on my ends to remove any damage and CHUNKY HIGHLIGHTS). I came in with plain brown hair almost down to my waist and showed her a picture of what I wanted multiple times and I guess she was just not looking? This process took almost 4 hours and I had no problem with that because I was so excited for the outcome (little did I know). Minutes after the service was done my hair was frizzy, looked undone and very unprofessional. I payed over $300 dollars for whatever she did to me, walked out, called my friend to really look at my hair to make sure I wasn’t crazy and we both just wanted to cry for me. I obviously went back to complain to the manager who seemed annoyed and very dismissive, but still offered to FIX MY HAIR. I accepted out of desperation, I just hated my hair so much. After talking to many people, showing them what I wanted and seeing how much hair she CHOPPED OFF (bc it’s not even straight and some strands are longer that others) I just decided that Ulta was not an option for me, so I went back and got refund (that was the least they could do). I’m never ever going back to Ulta, I DO NOT RECOMMEND ULTA FOR ANY HAIR SERVICE. TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

2021-12-18I got a blowout and facial done and loved it! I wish I could remember the gentleman’s name but he did such a great job on my hair exactly what I asked for a Blowout with beach waves. I want to say his name was Craig but not sure) Also, after getting off a 5 hour flight from CA to NY the Show your Glow facial Jeniece performed had me feeling fresh and revived. It was just what I needed. Definitely would recommend!!!

2022-04-17Great store! Arlenie was the best!!! She found the right product for me and did a perfect color match! Dermablend brand makeup is a godsend when it comes to covering up anything! She applied it and made me look flawless! Plus, we a had a fun chat. I highly recommend this store, and Arlenie in particular. 😊

2022-05-27I highly recommend this Ulta beauty in particular. I came in and asked to be showed around for a fragrance for my mother and I was assisted swiftly and in a good way since when I got home and showed it to my mom. She was ecstatic and loved the smell of it, I will definitely be back for whenever it is time to get a gift for fragrance or something similar. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, GREAT EXPERIENCE, SELECTION AND CUSTOMER SERVICE KEEP IT UP!!

2022-07-18Not a great experience. Blowout wasn’t what I expected. Asked for waves and volume and the stylist took 2 hours when the hair appointment was supposed to be 45 minutes. In the end, none of the curls stayed and my hair was sleek straight in minutes with no volume.At the time of payment, the nice lady asked how it was and I told her I had asked for curls and showed her how flat my hair was and all she could say was curling is a separate service and she won’t charge me for it so I only pay for the blowout and asked me if I wanted to add a tip. Seriously??? I was never told curling would be charged separately.I had a photo shoot and expected to have curly hair and after spending 2 hours, this is what I get?I would give 1 star but adding 1 more for the makeup artist Jabriella at Mac booth. She did a great job with such little time that was left after wasted time for the hair.Needless to say, I won’t be returning. Also, I paid total 123 dollars for hair and makeup which I could have paid at a good salon and got a better service.

2022-08-04For all the stores I have been to, this one has been offering the least help. I placed an order online, later I found out I put wrong email address, and I didn’t get any confirmation. I went to store before knowing my email was wrong, cause I thought there are gonna be numerous ways that they can help me find out what was wrong, or simply looking through pick up orders by names. However, they told me they can’t do anything without order number or bar code?! I told them I was charged, I might have used the wrong address, still, I need a bar code for them to go through the 20ish orders with names on it. Why would we need a person whose only job is to scan bar code and locate orders, a robot can do much better in this no-brain job. After explaining to 2 girls, the third one ask the first one to check names on ready orders. She checked half of the shelves and told me it’s not there. Later I out it’s on the OTHER half of the shelf! 5 staff members passed by and 4 of them insisted order is not placed and spent whole time talking me to leave or call customer service, instead of checking the orders behind them or their system for the information available. No trust was shown here. Clearly to be able to shop here, you’d better to know how their whole ordering system works and not to ask any questions, or you have to leave and figure things out yourself.

2022-06-09I hate leaving reviews, but its been 2 weeks and I want to cry every time is see my hair. What was supposed to be a small trim turned into very choppy and deeply uneven layers that I havent been able to get fixed yet. I have been wearing a hat almost everyday since. Im really bummed and thought I was just being sensitive until I saw someone elses review and I feel I just have to agree, Tomas seems like a great person maybe dont let cut your hair.

2022-05-19I usually go to this location and used to feel welcome until today. I felt truly appalled today as I was followed and profiled in this store. I initially tried to ignore it, and perused other aisles to find what i was looking for, but couldnt ignore it when it happened in another aisle with another employee and gave up and left. If you are not white, I dont recommend coming here. I have never felt so discriminated by a company I have been supporting for years.
