One of the best experiences in my life . It was on the 9th of August. I visited the Head quarters of the United States on a program of Indigenous People. The security of the UN HQ is so protective and they are so serious about their duties. But, friendly and helpful. Before you walk in youll see a lot of monuments and statues gifted to UN from other countries. After walking in youll discover a lot of architectural stuff. Nice gifts from Nations to the United Nations. Very satisfying. Also, they have a store you can buy stuff as a memory. The programs are very well organized and a lot of stuff to learn from people.Great memory!
Memories from USA! United Nations Headquarters. What do I remember from the UN, I send a postcard to myself. I think it is a haunting. Travelling gives you unforgettable memories. 😁#manhattan #newyork #usa #unitednations #unitednationsheadquarters #unpostoffice #theknottedgun #spherewithinsphere
The visitors centre which you must go to first is like an army recruitment camp. You get screamed at and a lot of rules are blasted at you. After going through security there is a lot more relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The guide although knowledgeable kind of rushed us through some areas and did not engage with us in a friendly manner. She was very reserved and to the point. Two of the people on our tour continuously broke the rules even after having been warned 3x. They should have been escorted out but were not.The rules were no audio or video recording. Photos ok! Simple really.
We went on a weekday for the tours which are $20 / Adult and $12 / students. When we initially checked online a week before, there were no tickets available but the night before they opened up. So make sure you check the website regularly. Otherwise you can go there and buy the ticket for the next available tour.Make sure you go to the Visitor center across the street from the UN building to check in and get your hand band. They only allow 1 person in the group/family to go in. Kids are welcome to go with parents so they can get a nice experience. Then you go across the street to the UN Building through security. No water bottles just like airline security. There are water fountains inside the UN building to fill them up.The tours start inside the building and run every 15 minutes and they last around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Some tour guides see good; ours was ok. We had a hard time understanding her with her accent. They take you through the various rooms where the delegates meet and discuss and provide a history of each of the initiatives of the UN. Dont miss the stone statue which was scarred from the atomic bomb. It was smooth on the side that fell and faced the ground and scarred on the back due to the intense heat. After the tour, there is a cafe and a gift shop in the basement. You can stay as long as you want afterwards, but there really isnt much to see.
This amazing complex has been the UNs head quarters since 1952. To visit it you need to do it with a tour, or you can also sneak in as guest of someone who works there. That would be the best as you could go to the UN bar, which the tour does not take you to! Either way better to visit it when is warm so you can walk outside without freeze. You will visit the multiple meeting and conference rooms, of different sizes, and each of them with a different decoration. The General Assembly is the biggest and probably the most famous one as we have seen it multiple times on TV. Lots of experience art in the corridors, donated by each of the member states.Really interesting place to visit.
Great Place.. I really enjoyed the time there. Before go just be sire about the security there and what not to bring. As well check in with your tickets. Tour guides will provide you a variety of beauriful areas. Try not to lost in the arena. Rest rooms are pretty packed up.
The tour is fine. You get to see the general assembly, security council and trusteeship council halls.Beware that in one or more of these halls, meetings might be ongoing and you may not get to see it.Also, although some people get to visit the floor of these halls, visitors on tours are not allowed to even get close to the floor.Im still wondering who were the others who could tour the floor - which is actually what I was expecting of a tour of the UN.Theres a check-in and a security check before you can enter the building, too. So, if you have purchased your ticket online, prepare to be there about half an hour early.
Great experience inside! Total security here- theres a small office infront United Nations that you need to pass through first in which they take a copy of Your Identification card inorder to enter and a picture! You then pass to metal detectors and finally in the building in which you see the history of the different technology that was used back then in order to communicate with other countries! A cafe/food place is here and even a bookshop, clothing shop . Great experience to visit if you want to discover more of the jobs and meetings being held here !
One of the greatest things that the US has ever done is creation of the United Nations! To marvel at the aquamarine glass of the UN Secretariat Building, is to marvel at the power, influence, diplomacy and greatness of America. While there, you can take one of their tours. Nothing like it. This is where the world comes to say what it wants to say. The freedom of this place is matched only by the prestige all the flags bring to America each time they flutter and herald names of lands distant and foreign - but very much a part of the great commity of nations that together comprise our world!
Don’t miss this place!Such a historical place with so many important events related to the world’s affairs take place here. It’s the headquarters for 5 main organs of the UN, namely the Security Council, the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship council and the Secretariat. The Secretary-general’s office is located here as well.It has so many beautiful art works, gifts from many countries, the member states of the UN.It has many cafes, souvenirs shops, book shop and more. It has paid guide tour which will take you to many great meeting rooms and historic spots.Don’t miss it!
A definite must see for anyone visiting New York. We were a bit disappointed though by the presentation given by the UN colleague in English language, since we didn’t actually get any relevant answers to our questions on the tour.Make sure to book the tour at least a month in advance to get your spot. The price of the tour is quite high for what you get, which is seeing 4-5 key UN meeting rooms (such as security council).Funny story : after the tour we went to one of the shops in UN selling T-shirts. We asked the sales woman as to what the T-shirts represented (which cause) and she wasn’t able to tell us. She never took the time to actually understand what she was selling.
I didn’t have enough time to tour fully and have a complete experience but the little time spent there was enlightening and amazing! However make sure whenever you want to go you take your actual passport and not a photocopy or Driver’s license as it wouldn’t be accepted. One person’s passport can allow at least 10 people in as a group. It’s definitely a must go if you ever go to NY!
The world recognized racial and gender discrimination. I ask you to recognize and species discrimination. Why birds and animals can easily move around the world and no documents are demanded from them, they are not limited by any borders and cordons. And I, a human being, as part of wildlife, are restricted and not allowed to go anywhere beyond the borders without documents and certificates. I, a human, as part of wildlife, are not allowed to go anywhere without documents. If I, a human, violate the border, they will put me in a cage. Are birds and animals put in cages for crossing borders?I ask the UN to recognize the species discrimination of a person. I consider myself an animal, I do not want to live by human laws. Please recognize my right to lead an animal lifestyle and give me a certificate or other document so that I can move around the world without certificates and documents. I ask you to recognize my right to the lack of the ability to write and read, and to perceive any information from people. I ask you to grant me the right to migrate throughout the planet earth.
“You wanna visit if you have interest in world affairs”Have seen this building in news since childhoodAll countries flags. big delegationUnfortunately for me, when I went, there were no flags.so that feel was not there bt yeah seeing this green glass building was good enough for me.You can visit inside by taking tickets.
UN HQ 🇺🇳I had a tour in the UN HQ and session with a CTED department. The role, function of the UN with 6 committees are amazing and make me think how I can contribute to peace, security, development and human rights. You will see this:General AssemblySecurity CouncilEconomic and Social CouncilTrusteeship CouncilInternational Court of JusticeSecretariat
It was my first time overseas. In June this year, I was able to go to New York for the Conference of State Parties (COSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). It was at the United Nations (U.N.). I was able to speak at 2 events, a side event and an intervention in the main assembly hall. I was blown away by all different kinds of people speaking about all kinds of disabilities, coming from different areas or countries. The place has very high security. We had to be well prepared with our passports and our passes. We had to show them all the time, there was security at all entrances. It was amazing when we went in there, the people there were very organised and well trained to deal with people of different impairments. They were very helpful with the lifts, and there were staff in the lifts all the time. It was very accessible, I could move my wheelchair around easily.I was honoured to represent Australia and proud of my indigenous background, speaking on behalf of my people. I hope to do it again, wether it is in New York or Geneva. Seeing the different approaches of the U.N.I was very proud, because I never thought I would be speaking overseas and speaking at the U.N. was another level. My dad always said to me there are many doors but you need the right key to open the right door and follow your dreams.
The tour is awesome, having a chance to see the Security Council and the General Assembly in person is incredible, tors are offered in different languages and have a cost of $20 normal person or $16 if your a student with and ID from anywhere around the world! Youll definitely enjoy it!
Great place ever to visit but the general public has limited access, i feel honoured to be the Member of UN Global steering committee and explore UNHQ in and out. I would advice General Visitors to go to visitor centre which is infront of UNHQ building to get pass of limited entry
Took a guided tour in English, and the tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable in both the history of the building as well as the history of the United Nations as a world organization. The tour took us through the building showing various pieces of artwork as well as some of the conference halls, which were quite impressive. The content and history of it all is obviously very impactful, however the delivery of the content by the tour guide tended to be a bit dry and difficult to stay engaged at times.
It is a great place to work! I mean there is no bigger stage in the world than the UN. I grew up in a culture where everyone asks you when you are a kid, whether you want to be a doctor, engineer, lawyer or play cricket for Sri Lanka when you grow up? When I said that I want to play cricket, work at @unitednations and be a diplomat one day, people laughed at my last two ambitions. Every Sri Lankan is born with the dream of playing cricket for Sri Lanka and so did I, but only a very few get the chance to fulfill the dream at once and I was not one of them. Yet here I am today at a UN General Assembly. There are so many tourists who come and visit NYC and i think visiting the UN is a must but please make sure you get tickets early.
It has three high rise buildings in very posh area of Manhattan. Visitors are allowed in one if them. It was great from outside, however inside wasnt as great as I was expecting. Inside interior is quite humble and simplistically designed. Just like any posh building in Islamabad. There were quotes on the walls from people around the world who contributed for the betterment of the world somehow. From Pakistan, it was Malalas...Then, there were souvenir shops and a little cafe. Walls were decorated with portraits of various world leaders. I liked the outer area more than the inner one. Its recommended to visit here if visiting New York because of its historical importance and for the sake of experience.
Amazing experience. Did the UN tour while I was there. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the tour itself covered many interesting tidbits about the UN as a whole. Wish we could have had some time to self explore, but given the location, I understand why we werent afforded that opportunity.
Don’t bother coming on the weekends, there really isn’t much to do other than walk around the General Assembly and the courtyard. Try getting a tour if you can. However, the building itself is really impressive, and is filled with history. The overall feel from the interior is reminiscent of an upscale conference centre from the 80s.
Really interesting place to visit when in NY - suggest you book online and arrive early as you need to check in across the street from the UN buildings and the line can be quite long. We arrived 1 hour before and just got checked in and into the UN for our tour in time - some people arrived 10mins before their tour stated and missed the whole thing because of poor planning.
Attending the 🇺🇳United Nations International Youth Summit on Sustainable Cities, Communities, and Climate Change was unforgettable. Using that moment to educate our children on the importance of issues like global poverty, gender inequality, womens /childrens rights, youth empowerment, and Climate Activism.....simply priceless!!!!
We did the guided tour and it wasgreat. Im a huge UN nerd so it was a must-see for me. The tour is only about 50 minutes but it was super informative and the guide gave us lots of time for photo opportunities. I would recommend this to anyone even remotely interested in politics or international relations. Arrive early though, as there is airport style security.
We were in the vicinity and walked around it outside, but even though it was before 4 p.m., the traditional time the almost 200 flags are taken down, there was not one flag raised aside from the U.N. flag on July 23rd. Hour long tours are available, and we considered taking one but the line was long and we were short on time.
This is truly a unique experience if youre somewhat interested in politics, international cooperation or similar. We were able to pre-order the tickets for the tour online. Actually, this was so seamless that we made the order on the subway on our way there, on the subway between Times Square and Grand Central. The price was about $30 per person.Afterwards, we had to assign one leader of our group to go for a security check inn. The assigned person needs to provide ID such as passport. Once this process is done, the group can proceed to the next security check point, at the UN building itself. Once done, your group may enter the building and proceed to the tour area. The tour itself was quite inspirational. We ended up with a very energetic and dedicated tour guide. Which I believe enhanced the experience. Very informative. Its also nice that we were given plenty of time to take pictures within the different chambers of the building.I will gladly recommend this experience to others.
Tours are very professional, and informative. The UN itself does such important work; and getting in and visiting helps to show how much they do! I’d recommend this even to those who don’t have a particular interest in politics or governance. The artwork, architecture, concept, and beautiful vistas are amazing.
It was a hundred and four out that felt like a hundred and ten it was hot beautiful sun was out clear skies worked a double in the heat the cafeteria is off the hook nice and cold AC was running have a big screen TV food is okay more microwavable they should have better choices in their food overall I love working in the UN United Nations
Good guided tour of the different assemblies, as well as general information about the UN. The tour was a bit stressful with much to cover in around an hour. There is exhibits as well as a few stores for books, coffee, souvenirs to stop by. Security check as well as a check for ID is required, and can take some time if it is a busy hour.
We were not sure what to expect from this trip but we were pleasantly surprised. we were able to visit most of the areas of the UN. We visit the security council meeting room. Nevertheless this did not distract from the visit. The cafeteria there is very nice as is the book shop and gift shop - which endeavours to sell stuff from UN nations. Overall a great way to spend a few hours, well worth a visit. There are cafeterias in all floors and wings
The tours that are provided last about an hour and are really informativealso, the gift shop and cafe downstairs have great souvenirs and foodwould definitely recommend taking a look at the art collection they have in the beginning and photographs against the beautiful skyline
Great tour. $20 per person with discounts for students, seniors, children, and active military. Get your visitors pass across the street and the other members of your party can get wristbands. Food inside is reasonably priced although the gift shop is one of the more expensive Ive been to. Shop sells products from many members.
My wife booked this tour and I was a bit skeptic but was totally won over at the end. Not for kids but my 16 year old found it interesting.Airport style security checks means you have to allow time to get to the tour check in but during August it was very quick but could imagine with the UN is in full swing it could be a long line. There is a small cafeteria downstairs if you are early and fancy a coffee etc. Also a nice shop that sells t shirts etc and lots of books for insomniacs
I love The U.N. I attended the 18 Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples and it was outstanding. I loved having so many diverse people under the same roof. The buffet was delicious and had a variety of diverse ethnic food choices with environmentally friendlier containers. We ate outside on the deck overlooking harbor.
Absolutely worth of visiting. First you have to go other side of the street security checking with passport etc and if everything is ok you are aloud to go in. Still another security before going in. Inside the house is plenty to see. Also cafeteria and shop downstairs.
Had the beat time exploring UN headquarters. You can get a pass across the street to enter the building and explore the art gifted from various countries on the patio, visit the ever changing art galleries inside, and take in all the good vibes. If you pay, you can get a tour of the meeting rooms but its enough to just explore the many art displays on the first floor.
Very interesting place to visit whether you are visiting from abroad or within US. Like other attractions in NYC this place also has a TSA-like security screening process, except this place took a bit longer because you need to check in first at a designated location (which is NOT at the visitor center in Google map) so do a bit of research beforehand. Also make sure to book a tour ticket in advance if you want to see the actual general assembly conference rooms.
Beautiful place with very limited access. Instructions for getting tickets were quite convoluted and confusing. Some staff werent friendly and your overall felt very rushed. So many areas were closed off, and photo opportunities were quite limited. Nevertheless, it may be understood that these limitations are due to security measures that have to be kept in place.
I visited UN Headquarter yesterday. It was wonderful experience to be inside Security Council, Trusteeship council and other parts of UN Headquarter. It was quite a busy day with General Assembly scheduled from 23rd Sept. & Climate control summit going on....I loved my visit ending with few gifts .
One of the best tours in NYC. Iconic building and amazing items on display including relics from the Heroshima bombing. Keep an eye on the State gifts scattered around the pathways and look for yiur countrys gift.I took away a star due to the attitude of the security guard at the exits. Way too rude to be stationed at a touristic attraction.
Excellent place to visit, came here on Independence Day (July 4th) and was on the tour that was shown round. Very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide and it was very informative. Learnt a lot about the way the UN works, plus seeing the main General Assembly Hall was incredible. Highly recommend a visit here - wont be a waste of time!
It has always been my dreams to step inside the UNHQ and most especially visit The General Assembly Hall. It rejuvenated my aspirations to work with the UN, as it has always been my dreams to effect positive change and vibe to world by being patriotic to the globe and importantly a proper global citizen.
Oustanding tour. Lots of great history and information regarding the world we share. Please add a visit to the UN to your school trips or visits to New York City. I truly learned a great deal about the United Nations and the good work being done there by so very many nations. Thank you so much.
UN headquarters needs no introduction. Now she is calm, but during scheduled sessions there is constant movement. Always people and a lot of cars and Police. You can get to the territory by registering on the site. then you can visit the park with sculptures and inside the building itself. in fact, the headquarters of the Ooyan was supposed to be in Brussels, but the field of World War II and the strengthening of the Soviet Union Truman insisted on its deployment in the United States as the capital of the New NATO block.
Open only on weekdays. A must-visit in Nyc, especially for students. To get into the building is free (you just get a pass from the visitor’s centre across the street). Go through security, bag check. Once inside you can choose to take a guided tour (students get special discount). The guided tour is around 20minutes and I highly recommend it!!
I joined a guided tour of the United Nations and learned that they hold up the visions which is called the 17 sustainable development goals (#SDGs).1. No Poverty2. Zero Hunger3. Good Health and Well-being4. Quality Education5. Gender Equality6. Clean Water and Sanitation7. Affordable and Clean Energy8. Decent Work and Economic Growth9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure10. Reduced Inequality11. Sustainable Cities and Communities12. Responsible Consumption and Production13. Climate Action14. Life Below Water15. Life on Land16. Peace and Justice Strong Institutions17. Partnerships to achieve the GoalExactly it would be great if we accomplished these goals. The institution just holds up the visions, so in fact, its up to each country’s people if they bring it back to their counties and conduct that.I think the self-determination of people who is important. In the past, America or people who believe democracy is the best brought the ballot-box to developing countries and forced them to change. Though its not always right, I hope at least thanks to these goals, our society getting better continuously.

They provide guided tours with those who want more detailed features in the headquarters. The tours are, of course, not for free and can be applied for online but they are totally worthy. For those who are travelling NYC in not enough budgets, this is not sure but I assume you can just go in the buildings. During the security check at the building right across the HQ, you can say the purpose is for tour. But you would not be able to enter the specially purposed places, but the first floor and the souvenir shop downstairs possibly. Not sure, so please check with others!

2022-01-12Beautiful sight of the United Nations headquarters with the flags of all UN countries flying high! The building itself is pretty as well although didnt go inside. The location is spectacular as its close to the Brooklyn Bridge. If youre in Manhattan for vacation do visit this iconic place and look out for your flag!

2021-08-31It’s a marvel to see all of the nations flags flying all at once! Unfortunately the building was on lock down and no visitors were allowed. Still a wonderful location to have such a reverent idea put into a place that represents so many beautiful people and cultures.

2022-05-17Short visit, max 1h. We visited 3 rooms included the General Assembly room. The guide was nice and entertaining!Dont have high expectations on the visit, it goes quick and you dont visit much of the building.Make sure that you arrive 15 minutes before for check in and control. Check in happens on the other side of the street.

2022-07-06The UN is an institution we should all engage with. It is imperfect and the politics can be frustrating, but critically it has created a structure for dialogue between countries on issues that impact everyone in the world. The building itself is a work of art with an uplifting atmosphere. The perfect environment for reflection and discourse on critical issues.

2022-06-21Being in New York, it is less common to want to visit the UN Quarter, because there are many other interesting and impressive destinations in NYC. We did this, and the tour impressed us a lot. We recommend others to follow our example.

2020-01-18Had a guided visit earlier today, and I was thoroughly impressed. Not only is the actual building beautiful and imposing (as are its many famous rooms, especially the General Assembly), its chock full of many beautiful, gorgeous works of art donated by all member nations.

2020-03-06If you are in NYC and have time this is a must visit. Definitely book one of the tours in advance from the website. Make sure to get there early as you have to check in across the road in a separate building first and ensure you have your passport. The tour is very informative and its great to see everything in person that you see on TV. It also gives you an appreciation and better understanding of everything the UN does. After the tour it finishes near some gift shops that sell items from all the member states and a great cafe. We really enjoyed and spent a few hours after the tour just walking about and looking at all the various displays etc. Once you are in as a guest and after the tour ends you can stay for as long as you like essential (or at least until it closes lol).Plenty of great photo ops aswell. Definitely an A+.

2018-10-10It was a great experience to be part of history. United Nations as it stands has been a great initiative by mankind. This tour gives you a chance to go around different meeting rooms through the headquarters of the building. It is a history/civics lesson for the three pillars of the UN. All in all a great experience for history buffs. Moneys worth.

2019-12-22The tour was unexciting and most of the rooms arent even used anymore. Seems like theyre trying to paint a better picture of UN than it actually is, and we dont even get to visit the places where actual UN work is done. For $13, not worth at all to look at 3 unused rooms

2021-05-05This place is a great spot for viewing 4th of July fireworks! 🎇 The United Nations HQ offers hour-long guided tours in multiple languages (English, Arabic, Russian, and more) for a behind-the-scenes look of the inner-workings of the UN. This could be a good option for a family activity on rainy days during your NYC visit 🗽. I wish the tour was free!
