Our tour guide was full of information and answered everyones questions as in depth as she could. It was surreal to be looking around and walking through places Ive seen only on t.v. and in photographs. It has multiple (huge) gift stores, toilets and plenty of opportunities to take brilliant photos. I highly recommend!
The tour here was very underwhelming… it was interesting to see inside of the UN - although the building is pretty old and looking a bit tired. The tour guide was nice but the info given was so basic - I mean getting info about very basic historical events should not be the point of the tour - rather it should focus on workings of the UN challenges today etc - also showing random gifts from countries on display like some boat model are just not interesting. I would not prioritize this if you are in New York for a short while. I see a lot of positive reviews here - experience might be guide dependent
Highly professional and courteous..Get the job done of security screening with better level of efficiency than some New York City locations. Easy instructions, simple directions. Relatively well thought out processes and procedures..Pleasant experience..We would not hesitate to consider the United Nations Visitor Center for a security screening and visit again..Definitely go and visit the United Nations through this office for your security classification..
Worth a visit for anyone in NYC, idealistic vision but required in this increasingly disturbed world, elegant but expansive spaces with typical scandinavian utility and simplicity. The tour guide was knowledgeable, the security process was not too onerous. If you want your passport stamped, shop the gift store or eat at the cafeteria dont take the 445 (last) tour or come earlier since everything closes by 5 and they dont tell you that!
The United Nations (UN) is headquartered in New York City, in a building complex that has served as the official headquarters since 1952. Since it is located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, the term Turtle Bay is occasionally used as a metonym for the UN headquarters or for the UN as a whole. Although it is situated in New York City, the land occupied by the UN Headquarters and the buildings that it rents are under the sole administration of the UN and not the U.S. government. However, in exchange for local police and fire protection and other services, the UN agrees to acknowledge most local, state, and federal laws. The UN has three additional, subsidiary, regional headquarters, or headquarters districts in Geneva, Switzerland, Vienna, Austria, and Nairobi, Kenya. These adjunct offices help represent UN interests, facilitate diplomatic activities, and enjoy certain extraterritorial privileges, but only the main headquarters in New York City hosts the General Assembly and Security Council.
Was looking forward to this as I studied a great deal about it during school and after. Had built it up in my head with such respect and regard.Unfortunately, wasnt very impressed with the tour.A lot of sections were closed to visitors. The very few exhibits displayed were good but the tour was so rushed that one doesnt have enough time to fully appreciate the artwork.( Not the fault of the tour guide; it was designed as such). Also, wasnt allowed to look around after the tour concluded. ( To read and study things that were set aside due to the rushing tour) So that was disappointing. The narrative, I thought, was lacking. It neither inspired awe or appreciation. I forgot all about it as soon as I walked out of the UNO. It was that memorable. The gift shop was a bit of a saving grace. Though didnt buy anything other than post cards, the collection of jewellery for sale from different countries was delightful. Book section was good as well.Cant say the disappointment was because of reality not meeting expectations or because it was genuinely poorly designed tour.Over all, it was not satisfying. It felt incomplete and unimpressive. If they were going to close off so many sections to the public, why bother opening it at all? I guess the philosophy they operated on here was very little is better than nothing at all.
The website recommends arriving fairly early to get through security but it did not take very long so we ended up hanging around before our incredible tour. There is a lot to do in the visitor centre including a few shops and watching ongoing UN meetings so we were not bored.
Good way to spend a couple of hours in New York, the souvenir shop has a little something from most of the countries in the United Nations and you also get a glimpse of the proceedings from a viewing window, If you are foreigner you will have to take your passport for the free Entry
There is 5 meeting halls and not single one is open to public and you are forced to pay for guided tour which is AT BEST only once per hour. I’d rather be charged for entry but have access to it without waiting for so long and being forced to take a tour I don’t want to.Very disappointing.
Apply for a tour (no reservation) in the lobby through security. You can choose a language, rent a headset, and be guided by a few people. Ethiopian officials explained the exhibits of nuclear and peace, human rights and refugees. Next, we visited the Security Council and the general meeting hall. I was surprised to find the Security Council right next to the lobby. I bought UN goods as a souvenir on my way home.
Really exciting to come in and see the UN building as well as the very nice halls that have been donated by the three Nordic countries: Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Where the Security Council is located in the Chamber from Norway and the Chamber from Sweden, the WHO is located in or the associated committee. Denmarks hall was used to make all countries independent today, it is used for various meetings, it is arranged and designed by the Danish architect Finn Juhl. The trip was not so exciting as you could not read all the exciting posters there were. Definitely worth a visit when coming to New York.
Take your passport and you will have the UN stamp when you leave the US to enter the United Nations.UN Headquarters in New York:In 1945, the United Nations was founded by 51 countries with the aim of improving cooperation in the fields of human rights, security and the world economy. As of 2011, the UN has 193 Member States. The United Nations Headquarters is located in New York on First Avenue along the East River and is open to the public. The United Nations Headquarters is located on international territory belonging to the 193 Member States and enjoys diplomatic immunity. Within this zone, the UN has firefighters, a post office and a police force.United Nations HeadquartersThe UN headquarters in New York is a complex made up of four buildings: the General Assembly building, the Conference Halls, the Secretariat complex, the Dag Hammarskjöld Library. The set was designed by American Wallace K. Harrison. In front of the complex, one can see the 193 flags of the Member States. They all form a large curve. The flags are listed in alphabetical order starting with Afghanistan and ending with Zimbabwe. There is the same distance between all the flags, symbol of the equality of the Member States of the United Nations.
If you make a reservation, you can get a Japanese tour for $20, so I think you should definitely go there. He kindly guided me and learned from me. In order to enter the United Nations, it is okay to complete the procedure with the intention of taking an international flight.
Absolutely worth seeing and one should look at a New York visit. There are guided tours in different languages that you can check in advance and reserve online. On the weekend and in the summer, the rush can be very large, so you can not get tickets in the short term. We had a guide in German. That was great and was very interesting. One has learned something about the history of the UN and was able to enter the most famous rooms. In addition, some gifts of the nations could be viewed.
I participated in a Japanese tour. I think it is a content that can be enjoyed by children (with age restrictions) and adults. In the underground mail shop, you can send postcards, etc. Of course also in Japan. The UN stamp is on display, so please send it as a memorial.
A must see to get an idea of the importance of high-level peace work. A little complicated to access. In fact, it is not enough to book the guided tour which almost always takes place in English, but you must first go to the police station, which is located in front of the entrance, to get a pass for yourself and for any accompanying persons. Once you have your pass, you can queue at the entrance to go through security. From there you enter the main building where there will be another queue to be inserted into the various groups, distinguished by color and starting time. The guide will show you the main rooms where activities take place that do not involve the participation of all the members, but which are equally huge and all equipped with simultaneous translation systems. The visit to the largest room where the plenary meetings take place will conclude. The overall visit lasts about an hour. Before leaving, you pass through the shop where you can buy some souvenirs or artifacts from the member countries.
The tour is interesting and unique. It is exciting to think that many countries are fighting for justice in the world. But it is sad to see that the good our country does does not show in the world. It is sad that the Holocaust has few images - which do not represent - apparently in order not to harm certain countries.
To enter the first thing is to cross the street where they ask for your information and give you a bracelet to enter. The visit is worth a part of it is temporary exhibitions I have visited several times and they always try to be interesting and sociological. The permanent exhibition is interesting and something new from a few years ago is being able to visit the meeting room
There are special people to lead tourists to visit, the explanation is very detailed, there are Chinese tour guides, you have to make appointments several days in advance, it is possible to set a Chinese guide. Everyone here has at least three languages, and foreigners speak Chinese very fluently.
A majestic place in N.Y.! ✨❤️ The staff is friendly and attentive to everything you require. It is important to respect the place and all the rules of access and behavior within the headquarters. You can book a tour in the language you want on the Visitors Center page; It is important that you arrive in advance to your visit, since you must go before making your registration (just in front of the headquarters, passing the avenue) and also the security filters are a bit late. 😱The guides are friendly and open to any questions, they explain the history of the UN, the murals and each of the rooms. ❤️ If you run with luck, you can enter the important rooms, but if they are in session you will not be able to enter. 💔 The General Assembly is impressive, although it is very rare that they allow you to access the seats from below to take pictures with a better view. In general, it is a place that for its history and importance I would visit whenever I could. ❤️Leaving your guided tour they take you to a space where you can take free brochures, books and posters about the UN. The souvenir shops are varied, you find things from $ 3 dollars and the best thing is that they are free of Tax. 👏🏻

2020-01-24So worthy of our time. Pro tip: attend in the off season, such as January. I didn’t wait in line at the security check, and we only had eight people in our tour group. The tour guide was calm and thoughtful, and we had plenty of time to ask questions and take pictures. Highly recommend if you have half a day and have weekday open.

2019-11-23O think the UN does not requires any introduction or review. I’m just sharing here my personal experience. I have always been interested in international diplomacy because I’m a firm believer that the world is just one and we have to find a way to live like that. UN has a lot of imperfections and old politics but is still the better political experience we have been able to produce. The guided tour takes you directly in the places where leaders and dignitaries from all around the world meet. For anyone like me who are used to watch international meetings taking place in those rooms, be there is quite fantastic.

2019-07-02Highly recommend this guided tour of the United Nations headquarters. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient and gave us plenty of opportunities to take pictures. The gift shop has souvenirs from every country. Recommend purchasing tickets in advance and choosing a time slot. When you arrive, you have to first check in across the street.

2019-09-11Interesting to see the UN headquarters from the inside. Lots of photo ops and thought-provoking information on display. The guided tour we were on was a decent experience but a lot depends on your guide. Come armed with questions if you want to maximize the experience. Caution: visitor check-in (across the st from the main entrance) is slow so get there early.
