University at Albany in other cities:
Beautiful campus. Earned my Masters degree from the downtown social work department. Knowledgeable professors and terrific science library. The campus center has many food and personal shopping options. The athletic center is a great way to sustain health and meet friends.
Awful....the system overloaded. They were unable to schedule my second covid vaccine. Had everyone leave. Filled out a form n was told someone would schedule an appt but some were told to call a number and that hopefully they get through eventually. While others were told to fill out a form n call a number. We went from being in ten lines to being told to gather into three so people ran to a spot n were touching..not social distancing etc at all. I was in shock n couldnt move. Lady gave me my form ..said an appt would be made but looked confused. It was alot. Awful awful awful. I am mad I seemed to get thus vaccine for nothing. So stressed n upset.
In m first semester as a Freshman and I can say this school has been disappointing to me. Some teachers are good and some are eh. The downtown area is a ghetto so beware of the locals. The staff at the state dining hall are miserable everyday. And some days the food options can be practically nothing. The gyms were the most surprising to me when I arrived. For a school of 25,000+ there’s three gyms that can only fit 70-80 each at a time. The equipment is usually old or broken and I’ve seen staff members asleep while working the desk. Rush week was fun at first but then you realize a majority of students in the frat are into drugs and drink daily. Only good things I can say about Albany is how clean it is and the architecture is nice.
This college didn’t prepare me for a career. There was no hands on classes. The career center is a joke too. There was no help getting internships. My degree feels like garbage. I have masters degree in communications and the masters classes prepared me for nothing. I can’t even get an internship in the field and it’s been two years.
This school is amazing and what you make of it. If you are a social person and participate in many events, you will excel. This school can get you a high paying and great job almost anywhere, especially major cities like NYC. Ualbany has a great reputation.... some of the teachers do lack in communicating.. but its what you make it and you need to take that extra step! The campus is beautiful and some of the students act like high schoolers. It’s okay though... it’s usually the freshman’s transitioning to college life!
It’s less about the programs at the University and more what you do with the education later. You should all research the programs better. Talk to graduates. See what they have to say and what they recommend. It’s a research school so you should do some research yourself.
This place almost ruined my life and killed one of my Brothers. The university turned my entire organization into known troublemakers who were just freshman trying to adapt to a totally new environment. They could not wait to throw me out. I say this because they wanted me to make a statement on the record that I was guilty of a house party before I dealt with the city court. The city court did not pursue this incident because I did not do it.As of today they are not helping with my financial health and future. This financial matter does not pertain to any of my loans I took out for an education. I just want an education and a better life. Im putting in the leg work now. Why does my states education system want to keep me below the poverty line.I attended the university and Im speaking from a students perspective and a student who sat on the University Council, worked for Residential Life as a Housing Manager and represented many students in the Student Association.
Im a second semester freshman right now and Im planning on transferring out for this fall. There is a definite feeling that the university doesnt care about you. I dont expect for them to cater to my every need but taking away meal equivalency and making the student section sit on the grass is ridiculous. Very few people here have pride in the university and a lot of my friends that Ive met here are planning on leaving as well. The downtown area or student ghetto is nice if you want to be held at knife point for a cigarette or buy some cocaine but that is really all its good for. All in all I would not recommend this place.
I am extremely disappointed with my experience at SUNY Albany. I spent a year and 10,000.00 on 24 grad credits. Most professors had an ego bigger then their bank account and the grievance process was lacking at best. The administration refused to acknowledge a problem, the facilities needed renovation and the staff go unchecked. Now I know why they call New York the Vampire State. Stop scamming SUNY. I am from New York but moved out of state. Life is good now. So glad I made the jump. There is a big world out there. SUNY is not even worth your time. Move out, reach higher.
UAlbany is actually a great school. After 4 years of spending here and after all the obstacles I loved it here. State quad is one of the best quads. Its closer to the classes bus stops and dorms are relatively nicer. Well Indian quad has overall the nicest dorms. State Dining hall has halal food which I love.
If you want to go to a university that treats you as another statistic, this definitely the place for you! I went here for one semester and immediately transferred to a different college. The professors have no idea what they are doing, they just stand at the front of the class showing PowerPoint presentations the whole time. If you actually take time out of your schedule to go see them and ask for help, youll get the response of: Did you even look over the material? They will basically read you the book instead of actually going over the material because they are fresh out of their graduate studies with no experience in the related field. I will say the food was pretty good and the architecture is amazing, but thats not reason enough to enroll. Save yourself some time, money, and potential career development... just go to another school. Go to a college like SUNY Cobleskill, where the professors actually have experience in the field(s) they teach and are genuinely concerned for your academic well-being.
I have almost a 4.0 in biochemistry and molecular biology. This school makes everything more difficult than it has to be. They discriminate against the students and overcharge on everything. I will never endorse this school again. A couple of my professors were great but the majority were awful. They do not know how to teach. The school is greedy, greedy, greedy. They dont value their students, no matter how excellent. Also the majority of students are just there to party not better anything. You can be an alcoholic and fail out they dont do anything against you, but if you get a parking ticket while you are getting a decal and they will hold it against you. I am DISCUSTED with the parking and transit services. They are old and senile with bitter hearts. This school rips your off.
Its a great place to undertake your higher studies. Beautiful Campus and state of the art facilities will blow your mind! Very friendly and helpful staff, always willing to lend a hand to whatever help you require. Campus accommodation is top notch! Liberty Terrace and Empire Commons are just like living in NYC. Winters are very cold so bring cosy outfits. Outdoor activities are endless. Night life also gets a 9/10! To me the experience at UAlbany is awesome!
Love the diversity of races and character types. There are really cool people here. Tons of great clubs. The library is resourceful. However the university itself is like all other universities: greedy. This school has down graded since my freshman year. How are we as students paying more money for less options? It makes zero sense. I really hate how we dont have a say in what changes are made to campus. They cut the 518 market hours in half, they offer mediocre food in the new(basic) campus center (we used to have Wendys, haagen daz, auntie annes, etc). Worst of all is that there are no more meal swipes. Were being forced to use the little munch money we have left. I wish Albany were more transparent and I wish the students stood up for their rights more instead of letting every change just happen to them. As if they have no power. Its a shame really. Overall people are great, the campus is pretty in my opinion (it used to be called concrete jungle), the staff is nice sometimes, reslife isnt the family it pretends to portray (I wish they treated their staff like humans), but like I said the University is more interested in our money and how much they can get from us. They could care less what happens to you as long as their reputation still looks pretty (which it doesnt).p.s.- Sodexo is also trash (they are the company our university gets its prison food from). They were kicked out a few years ago for giving six students e.coli btw..p.p.s: A lot of the other reviews here are fake. I see tons of 5 stars but no reviews? hmmm..that must be Albanys marketing team.
I was a junior before I transferred. It was fun until they cut so many majors. They built a new football stadium, theyre adding extensions to the campus center and theyre building a new fountain (I get the water tower but why replace the entire thing?). Im sure that has nothing to do with it. Im just saying the school has a lot of money despite the fact that they dont have enough money to maintain the majors they offer.
The campus is spread out over three locations - uptown, downtown and east most academic and other activities take place at the uptown campus. The setting is quite breathtaking, a great campus with a lot of concrete with a good dosw of greenery all around.Buildings are structured by departments and school and built around the campud center. Campus Center offers a decent food court, a Barnes and Nobles bookstore in addition to lounge area and some entertainment option to students in addition to a full dining option (shared with one of the quad). There is also the famous fountain (location to celebrate the discontinued fountain day) and a pathway to the entrance plaza.Collins circle provides a good spot for students and public to socialize, play in its well landscaped garden.Academic buildings are well designed, equipped with latest aids, roomy and in general very positive to aid the environment. The main campus has a couple of libraries catering to different student groups and meet different set of student requirements but make the campus self contained.University also has a mix of modern design architecture with the college of nanoscale engineering, dept of life sciences, school of business, et.al.Departments offer a wide range of courses catering to different student needs and have a fairly rigorous course structure as well as a grading mechanism. Enough motivation and help is provided to students to succed in their chosen coursework.Campuses are well connected with public transport, have a good parking system (though it involves some walk from parking to the academic buildings) and a good tunnel system to help get through winters.Overall a university that offers great value.
I graduated from SUNY Albany Undergrad Public Health Program and it was amazing ! Everyone was willing to help us exceed. The professors were very knowledgeable and went the extra mile. I enjoyed the program so much that I continued studying in their graduate program. Ive took advantage of all the opportunities SUNY Albany gave me. The social life aspect of the school is great. As a young adult you just have to be responsible enough to be able to balance things out. I met some amazing people at SUNY! Overall its a great school if you stay focus on what your going there for.
This university has the most ignorant in manners and ethics professors I have ever met. Just a reminder University at Albany, manners and well speaking comes before education. Having a PHD and not being able to inspire new generation of PHDs = a monkey with a PHD. When a professor tells you this class is too hard just know that this person is not worth listening to and wasting your time. I hope the president of this university read this message and reevaluate his crew.
I attended SUNY Albany from 2010 -2014. I met some of my closest friends. However, they treated their students like criminals....I mean yeah Kegs and Eggs was a little out of hand but to cancel fountain day. THE NERVE OF THEM. Furthermore, I graduated a year ago and they called my house at 8pm every night asking for donations. Meanwhile they drained me of my life savings with their parking tickets. The education was sub-par. I will say if you are looking to go into a political field, Albany is the location for you. Just go to college when youre 21 and say hi to Monty who works at Pine Hills but for the love of god...do not buy 2 large bags of potato chips every night.

2022-04-14Seems like a nice place, very diverse although the concrete architecture is not for me. Really nice fountain and good school for law, computer science, and math. Small but clean dorms and a really nice food court with built in Starbucks. Im not going there for college but that doesnt mean you shouldnt.

2018-03-13I visited this university today and I was thrilled at the architecture. There’s this inexplicable aura of tranquility and calmness. It’s so serene and I felt so much at home that I almost didn’t want to leave. I wish we had schools like this Africa with so much ambience of love

2018-01-24While there are quite a few architectural gems, the overall ambiance is quite depressing. The columns, although visually attractive at first, become a bit overdone as all of the buildings look similar. Very cookie cutter.

2018-09-17I was there for a conference and I really liked the over all atmosphere of the university. Students seemed really friendly and the organizers seems punctual and approachable.

2021-03-29A lovely campus! Has everything one would expect from a university from high academics to sports. Nice new stadium. Its a manageable size...near surrounding homes & shops & not far from Albany city center. On busline...parking available. You really cant beat the state university system...I give it high marks!

2021-03-29UAlbany Covid-19 vaccination site well marked and easy to access. Plenty of saff were directing traffic to parking lots and vaccination site.Vaccination staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Site is well marked and staff verified my appointment, made second appointment date,, and directed patients to the vaccination site and 15- minute waiting area after vaccination.I was able to park, get shot, sit in waiting area, and leave in 35 minutes. It was the most efficient group effort I have ever attended.Thank you one and all staff. Youre doing a great job!

2021-03-18I had to drive around the outside of the campus at 1400 Washington Avenue for awhile but once I found the area set up for vaccinations, it went fast and efficiently. Great job by all involved in organizing and implementing the process.
