My grandmother came into Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after her hip surgery earlier this year. Not only was the staff great but the amount of care the facility provided her with was extensive. After a long road to recovery she thankfully is doing great!
Giving one star because giving no stars is not an option. Was here visiting a friend today,No one came to give her a shower, no one came to make the bed or change her under garments... This place is a hole in the wall like many of this places. The staff and nurses are rude and incompetent, and the bathrooms are filthy. I dont have one positive thing to say about this dump.
No stars. I read some reviews about Upper East Side rehab before my father was sent there and Im glad I did. Although it wasnt my choice for him to go to this facility, the insight from the reviews helped me recognize some red flags. Many of the reviewers said that their relatives were being held against their and their families wishes at Upper East Side Rehab and unfortunately the same thing happened to my father. His experience was a real horror. Physical therapy was not offered and he had far less care than he did in the hospital. When I called to ask how much phsyio he was getting I was told by the nurse that she had too many patients to write things like that down. He wasnt allowed to get out of bed, was put in a diaper (he had managed to get to the toilet at the hospital he stayed at immediately prior) and his health slid backwards. When we saw he was deteriorating so quickly we couldnt get a doctor to visit to discharge him. The doctor said by phone (after hours of calling) that he had too many patients and wouldnt a be able to see dad so that the necessary forms could be completed for discharge. In the end after a lot of trying through the proper route, we had to remove him without him being discharged and without any home care arranged, bringing our own wheel chair. It was probably the scariest thing that ever happened to my father and our family but thankfully he recovered well at home. I hope this place is inspected.
This place is terrible. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE! My mother has dementia and had a fall where she fractured her shoulder. She was sent to this rehab center and the second night she was there they found her on the floor after me advising them that she was a fall risk because she tries to get out of bed alone. They are short-staffed and there is NO communication with the family once the patient is admitted and they get the insurance money. I was always wary about places like rehab centers and nursing homes and my biggest fear came true. The day she was transferred to the rehab floor an hour after I left the nurse called me that my mom was trying to get out of bed and she wouldnt listen after I had told them this is what my mom does when she is in an unfamiliar place. She told me she was the only nurse on the floor with 40 patients. I told her that that sounded like a problem she needed to take up with her supervisors, not me. After I went and demanded to speak to a supervisor they admitted they were ill-equipped to handle dementia patients and they transferred her back to the hospital where she is able to have a 1:1. I would give this place no stars if I could.
Do not ever send a loved one here. I cant speak for their treatment of their living patients, but after someone passes away the conditions are horrible. They just very recently got a refrigeration unit for the deceased, before they just stayed on the floor until a funeral home could come and get them. The funeral home cannot come and get them until they have the death certificate from the doctor, which often times takes longer than a day or two!! The staff is negligent, rude, and without prompt.
Do not send your loved ones here. Unacceptable conditions. My mother came here as a 4th choice. Found a used dirty depends on the floor next to her bed. I came in another day and she was laying in her own filth. The food is inedible. I don’t even recognize what it is supposed to be. I took 3 days for her 1st physical therapy session. The administration is defensive and are more concerned their own feelings than they are about patients’ needs. When confronted about their empty promises, I slipped an f bomb and that was their main concern; not any of the above issues. The photo is of her robe that they allow her to sleep in. Apologies to anyone offended by photos of feces, unless you are an employee at this facility. Google really needs to have a zero stars option.
If I could’ve given 0 stars I would have. This place is terrible. They have two of the rudest young ladies ever sitting at the front desk when you come in. They are not helpful. They sit around and negatively discuss the family members coming in to see the patients. The nursing staff that I’ve encountered is rude. They allowed my family member who can not use her hands to sit in there for almost a week and not eat or drink. I overheard a CNA hurt one of the other patients while changing her. She wasn’t even apologetic. Her response was “you’re fine. It’s fine.” I would not advise you to send anyone there ever. But if you do have a family member or friend there go see them often or you may be sorry.
Cant get through to this place, the number is not in service meanwhile my mother has been there in covid quarantine for 5 days and has been found fallen on the floor in the hallway TWICE. They say she needs rehab but she has 24 hour care at home and is 91. They are just milking her for medicare $. I am trying to get her home tomorrow and they conveniently wont answer the phone. Steer clear.
Poor service, limited staff, nasty people with attitude, covid guidelines are to combine exposed patients into 4ppl room as opposed to isolate them, even though rooms are available. Social worker or patient advocate work FOR the facility, so they advocate for the facility NOT the patients.
This place is horrible!!!! So short staffed and nobody cares, you cant get through to people and the take terrible care of their patient; my friend got Covid in this place and the only way I found out was after three straight hours of calling on Christmas eve and the following day literally another three hours of calling. I finally got thru to nurse on her old floor, and she said sorry nobody told you she ( my friend) is on the covid floor and havent been able to get through since. Run from this place.
My mother has experience with other centers for rehab, nothing comparable with this terrible place she was placed to this particular rehab because of her cardiologist and appointments she had in city. I took her out from this horrible place , we had very bad experience, poor care, rudeness, ignorance beyond description!!! They left my mother dirty and with many bedsores. When I asked to have something done they never listen and they are rude and disrespectful. They didn’t want to discharge my mother and we’re trying to keep her against her and my wishes. If you care for your loved one Stay away from this place!!!
I just spent my 4th rehab stay at the Upper East Side Rehab facility. LOOK NO FURTHER for your rehab needs. With the rarest exception, the aides and administrative staff are responsive, caring and cheerful! I always felt they were my allies! Amy, Evelyn, Judy, John, Andy, Arroyo, Richard, Rita and others made me feel like I was welcome and part of the UES family. The food was absolutely great! As soon as I left my room for therapy or other reasons, someone came and re-made my bed. As odd as it may seem, I really hated to leave the Center. I have chatted with many friends over the years about their experiences with a wide variety of rehab centers in the New York City area. I would not hesitate a minute about recommending this Center for rehab. Congratulations to everyone there for providing a fantastic home away from home for all of us who have rehab needs!
I arrived at Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on December 23, 2018. And from the first moment, I was made to feel very comfortable . The facility is exemplary in every way , from the state of the art gym to the outstanding staff. While everyone on my floor was efficient and courteous , I found myself especially fortunate to be under the wing of JUN , the patient advocate . Amy the charge nurse , Linda and Claudia my aides. Jun kept everything running smoothly , he calmly and efficiently managed every problem with a sense of humor . Second only to the lovely staff was cleanliness of the facility . The patients rooms were mopped everyday , maintenance operated like a well oiled machine . Meals and activities were always on time . The entire day was filled with physical and an occupational therapist. When I arrived before Christmas, I could not walk on my own, but by New Years I was using a walker like a pro . Within a month , I could walk with or without a cane . Im only one example of the excellent rehabilitation UESRNC offers , and painstakingly accomplish .
My father has been here for three weeks on the 13th floor. The facility is clean, the nurses and aides are friendly and helpful. They are attentive to the patients needs and try hard to please. The rehabilitation facility is well equipped with lots of therapists seeing to the patients needs. The food is institutionalized and could use some help but it’s easy enough to buy food locally. Just wish the food was healthier choices. All in all the women and men attending to my Dads needs were always there for him for whatever is needed. Thank you for taking such good care
My mother has received wonderful, care and concern from the staff at this facility. Everyone has been helpful and given her a lot of attention Thru this horrible time. It is very hard to have a parent in a facility at this time but knowing the staff is on top of the situation and working so hard is wonderful. Thank you all for everything you do!
This facility is by far, the worse. The website pictures are a fraud. The staff falls short in every respect. You can definitely see that if you can pay for your care the treatment is night and day.Let me start by stating that my uncle was admitted for physical therapy and by Day 20, he had not even visited the gym. The facility claims to have services for dementia patients. They do not nor do they recognize when a patient is agitated due to the illness or is combative. My uncle waited two and half weeks to see a urologist which was part of the reason he had been hospitalized, bad kidneys. When I would arrive for an evening visit, since i work, there would be no Nurse to be seen and the patients were outside of their respective rooms yelling, wandering the halls, soiled, arguing among themselves. The rooms are roach infested and are not cleaned unless you call to have them swept or mopped. The social workers are only interested in getting payment for work they do not do. The food is disgusting and no one cares. I tried several times to get updates from different staff (rehab, social workers, nurses) and was always met with annoyance or no return phone calls. I wouldnt send my loved one here for even a hangnail.
My experience with the Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was a very short one. I visited a friend who was there on Christmas Day. The facility was clean and the receptionist was helpful when I had trouble finding my friends room. The lobby looked modern and very nice. I did not interact with anyone else, because the receptionists directions on how to find my friend was on point. When I got to the room, they were making my friends bed. The room seemed a little small. There were two beds in the room. My friend was at the one away from the door, and another patient was being helped into a wheelchair. It just seemed crowded with only four people and two wheelchairs. But other than that, the place seemed clean and the people seemed pleasant. I did not interact with any of the nurses.
My mother was needing a rehabilitation center following brain surgery. Karina came with incredible details and a kind heart to great us at the hospital. She took the time and had the patience to answer every question, clearly works overtime and seems to love what she is doing. The facility is clean, everyone is attentive, upbeat and responsive. Im truly grateful for being able to have my mom in such good care as she heals. I am not someone who writes reviews often, but I do read them, and sincerely wanted other people to make a good decision and give them the props they deserve.
My mother was admitted here a little over a month ago after surgery. She can be a bit of a handful (only eats organic and is very particular about the type of mattress she can sleep on) but thankfully, after I raised my concerns to the social worker, they were happy to make the necessary adjustments. My mother was very active in ballet in her youth and she raved about the physical therapists at the facility so much so that she joked that she was going to go back to dance class. Unfortunately she has been in and out of several nursing facilities over the past few years with both good and bad experiences. But Im delighted to say that the staff here has tried very hard to make sure she is happy, which makes me happy. Thank you Upper East, especially the physical therapists for all of your hard work!
Excellent care and attention paid to my beloved mother. Terrific PT. Sparklingly clean facility. Many smiling faces amongst the employees. The food is institutional with very decent soup . And plenty of extracurricular activities if one so desires. This is my mother’s second stay and I demanded she be returned here and specifically the 15th floor. We’ve been and seen other places and closer to home but this is our first choice. And there’s a tasty cafe on the lobby floor. I highly recommend!
Spent 13 days and nights in the facility after eight in Lenox Hospital ICU after heart surgery. Cannot speak to nursing home conditions, except to note that there seem to be a good variety of activities, but for short term there are pluses and minuses. The rehab is what gets the place its reputation, deservedly. Otherwise, Im not enthusiastic, though I cannot say how it it is in other places. I had almost no direct attention from my assigned doctor, but my roommates came a number of times. The two RNs on the floor seemed not enough for the number of patients they cared for; they often took too long to respond, while shift changes and nighttime breaks seemed to take forever. The great majority of the aides, all women, are caring and hard working, but a few are not in good physical condition and seemed to struggle at times with the more demanding tasks. All seemed to pay good attention to sanitary routines. The food was routinely lousy (the hospitals was much better), and I was a little surprised aides were expected to deliver and clear the trays; they had enough to do, and the food was not always hot. My biggest complaints were the bed, which was very uncomfortable, and the wheelchair that was my only place to sit during the day, which was not my size and had malfunctioning footrests; after a while it also became very uncomfortable.
First visit with my mom I have a very favorable impression. They are attentive to her needs and seem to be able to tolerate her many requests for tasks quickly and with an acceptance of her nature. I have worked professionally in facilities and I can say that these rooms are both spacious and modernly equipped. Yes, I know the patients think they’re tiny but only because they have nothing to compare it to.
I would like to begin by thanking all the staff members at the rehab center. My mother is an elderly lady and she required a lot of assistance. All of the staff members were extremely kind and patient with her. She is home now and doing much better thanks to all the hard work of the center. This is an excellent center that is truly dedicated to their patients. God bless you! I highly recommend this location and center!
My 96 year old mother-in-law got excellent care for the 5 weeks she stayed at Upper East Side Rehab. She broke her hip - and her physical and occupational therapy was provided in a professional and caring way. The staff is GREAT! All the nurses and aides on the 11th floor paid great attention to her and we were both very happy with her stay. She also LOVED the food!! Thank you very much!!
This place is the most fabulous place that there is. My father spent his last months of life in the care of the most loving, knowledgeable, meticulous people. I will forever be grateful to the director, Scott Mair, and his amazing staff. The nurses are so kind and experienced. I especially love Stacey and Jess. The therapies are wonderful. The speech therapist, Allison, is beyond committed to her work and the kindest soul. My family and I made a friend for life.We went through the most difficult few months with Covid on top of everything else. Upper Eastside Rehab made it all the best it could be. The activities department, Irina and Alla. The assistant director, June. The social worker, Keisha. I could go on and on. The aides, the front desk, everyone! I can’t thank UES enough! Everything is done with such compassion and kindness. I would recommend this place to anyone. I was lucky to find it.
My grandmother stayed here for five weeks after fracturing her hip. She was no easy patient, after having suffered many strokes and becoming largely dependent on the aid of others. My mother picked this home because of its close proximity to ours. I have no doubt she had better quality of care at this nursing home than that of her own home.I had a traumatic fear of nursing homes when I was younger, but visiting this one put me at ease. Their staff people are so dedicated. Care is a really big issue today, for some more than others, and their patience and personal stories - among my conversations with them - make me admire them all the more. The facility is beautiful and well-decorated and there were a lot of activities scheduled for every taste.
Care givers of patients and Patients who take care if their own financial affairs, please make sure you know what your insurance covers. I just got a call from an admissions rep that wanted me to give them permission to take my parent off of their Medicare HMO so that they could enroll her in regular Medicare to garauntee payment for her care at the Facility without knowing if her current insurance would deny or approve an extra 1 to 2 week stay for sub acute care. So, I asked why didnt they call the insurance and check to see if they would get an extension due to medical necessity? To make along story short, I called my Parents insurance and was told that medicare covers up to 100 days of short term rehab for the year. And found out that the insurance carrier has been trying to a contact the facility to get the exact date if my Parents admission to the facility. This was very interesting to me. How come no one in the billing Dept of the facility knew this basic information? So, beware . . . Know what your insurance covers before you get talked into doing something completely unnecessary as for bill payment. Over all this Facility is decent, but they have sly little tricks in there mix!
To the Staff of the Upper East Side Rehab. I sincerely thank each and everyone at your facility. I visited your facility before my husband wasadmitted and I must say that I was totally surprised on how beautifulit is. From day one, my husband was welcomed by everyone..I stoppedcounting on how many people on the staff came to greet him and putany worries to rest. I cannot emphasize on the amount of peopleit takes to care for just one person. When I arrived everyday by 11am, he was washed, dressed, fed, given his medicine, taken to physical therapyand waited for me happily. I cannot think of one moment that he wasnot taken care of.The doctor, nurses, nursing assistant, staff, and many others on thestaff looked out for him.His PT Staff is exceptional..After only one month, his is walking with hiswalker..When he had his other knee done ten years ago, it took himthree months to get to where he is now..He does not use his wheel chair, his transfer bench and is able to walk with supervision. With sincere thanks to all,Gerardo & Carmen Chang
I could have given no star. The place has a strange smell and short of staff. They didn’t set the limit for the TV volume in the double room, allow the patient to increase the volume as loud as they want, which disturbs the visitors. It’s unbelievable! No therapies during the weekend, only 30 minutes group therapy which is nothing. You better set up visiting nurse instead of sending your loved ones there. It’s a nightmare!
This is the second time a close friend which I consider family has been here. She will be coming home by 8/16/19. I am very happy with the Staff, the Unity among the workers. Thelma has never thus far had any complaints. She seems very content with the attention she has receive. I see how other patients are cared for for. I can see the Love given to these Elderly people. I pray they continue doing what they seem to be enjoying, is to care for humanity.Bravo!!!! To the Upper east side Rehab Facility.Thank you
I was impressed by the facility but upon arriving at my Aunts bed, at 1pm, her bed hadnt been changed. We left for Occupational and Physical therapy and the therapists were very good. When my Aunt finished therapy it was suggested that we take her to the patio. The patio was closed, that was around 2:30pm, so we sat by the coffee shop inside the building. We went up at 3pm and still the bed hadnt been changed. If it werent for that, it would have been perfect.
Upon arrival at UESRNC as a covid19 survivor, I was gripped with fear and vulnerability . As the time went on thru the loving support of the RNS , CNAS , and other staff , I was made to feel cared for and supported . As time went on , and I received my daily PT and OT, that fear and vulnerability changed to strength and confidence. I was unable to walk when I arrived , and as time passed, thru my PT/OT and staff on the floor , I was able to walk independently . This accomplishment took hard work on my part and also the encouragement of everyone in the facility. Although , many of the patients here are struggling , ALL the staff are joyous , happy and filled with encouragement .The administrative staff and SW , were readily available to my family during my stay. Because of the love that permeated thru everyone, It almost felt like home . I would like to acknowledge JUN , the patient advocate for his daily visits , which were upbeat ,he makes me smile all the time.
Most importantly, the greater part of the professional staff seems competent and compassionate, courteous and caring and, on the basis of my experience with them, I would be inclined to give the place 4 or 5 stars. However: The residential rooms are a bit dreary with no decoration and very little surface on which to put personal belongings. There seems to be little encouragement of the residents to socialize with each other notwithstanding group activities, and little inclination among residents to interact. For example meals may be taken in ones room or the dining room. When I visited, the dining room drew only about 15 people for dinner. I would suggest that there might be a dining table for those seeking conversation with others. Perhaps most importantly, the planning and quality of the meals seems deficient. Most of the residents know that they neither hear nor see as well as they used to, but they can still taste. It should be easy to cater to this still vibrant sensibility, but the food is uninteresting, and the meals designed to be inexpensive. They are invariably served luke-warm at best, and tea and coffee is tepid. Support issues appropriately raised are apparently pursued (i.e., there is lots of good will) but often with significant delays. A phone in my mothers room did not work properly for over four days before we got it switched out. Until then her cardiologist could not reach her. Residents are asked, after arrival, to sign a contract, presented on a tablet, and characterized by a staff member in a few sentences. But it includes 26 pages of fine print. That agreement should be provided in hard copy before arrival. To their credit, the facility professes to be amenable to reasonable amendments but most people will not ask for a copy or read the document before signing - and it is typically overreaching. Therapy (both occupational and physical) are promised for two hours each week day. Those seem to be like psychiatric therapeutic hours - short by 10-15 minutes. Residents apparently have to demand the promised services in order to get them. However some of the therapists seem more interested in socializing than in servicing the residents needs. No therapy is offered on weekends and, given the average age of a resident, that is a reason for significant losses in therapeutic progress.
After my mothers heart surgery we did our research with the hospital social workers and were given a long list of choices for rehab centers in Midtown Manhattan. I did my research thoroughly and spoke to everyone. The only place that stood out was Upper East Side Rehab. I had multiple conversations with our contact Arkady who was incredible,. You could tell immediately that he truly cared about my mothers well being. That extended to the administration staff in their front office, including Jenn who was an unbelievable resource and also so caring and accommodating to us. Not to mention the floor staff who were remarkable, especially Eli who would stop by several times a day to check in on my mom when I wasnt there. I cant say enough good things about this place, no where is perfect, but this was the closest thing to being home and among people that care and want to help. I cant thank the staff enough for their help and support, my mother is out now and continues to talk about the great experience she had..Upper East Side put her back on her feet..Thank you all for going above and beyond and treating my mom the way I would.
I have known three people who have been patients here. The center is clean, the staff is incredibly nice and professional. I can imagine it isnt easy for anyone to have to live or work in a facility like this, but everyone is so professional.Having said that, I always get upset when I witness visitors who think they are above the rules, and dont expect to have to identify themselves when checking in to see someone. Some folks have been downright rude! The staff rises above such encounters. This is not a bad place at all.
I was here for 8 weeks with a broken hip and my time at the Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center was wonderful. The staff is hard working are a bunch of good willed people with good intentions. They work as a team and make good things happen because they WANT to make it happen. The rehab is excellent and by far the best part of this establishment. My favorite activity is walking on Park Avenue and Im so glad Ill be able to do that again. A special thank you to some of the rehab staff that helped me: Frank, Wellington, Silvio, Christina and Bessie - Marie K
My experience with East Side Rehabilitation was great. When you first walk in the building it is very clean and has a nice little coffee shop. The receptionist was also very nice and friendly. When I went upstairs to see my dad his room was also very nice and clean and he seamed very happy and comfortable. He couldnt wait to get lunch either. Too funny. Great experience. Thank you
Dont be fooled by their shiny facade. Unless you are willing to stand by your elderly patient, they will not receive much help from the staff in eating, brushing teeth or daily care. This was in their short term care section. My mom did not receive the therapy she was supposed to get. There are many things I would post here but I am am limited by the website. They did not provide post discharge services as promised. I do not like or trust this organization
I arrived at Upper East Side nursing on Feb. 18, to receive rehab treatment after my most recent surgery. I have to say that the place is immaculate, the housekeeping man was busy night and day making sure my floor was as clean as can be. I never waited more than a few minutes for a nurse to respond when i needed something and the staff working on the night shift couldnt be sweeter. Also I just want to say that the physical therapists deserve an award for their patience and hard work. It would be nice to have a little more variety when it comes to the food but compared to one of my past experiences at another facility, Upper East was a breath of fresh air! p.s. I would also like to say a huge thank you to the entire staff on the 12th floor for a surprise birthday concert (They actually came to my room with a keyboard and balloons to sing Happy Birthday)
My aunt was admitted here from the hospital after suffering a possible stroke. She had no adverse symptoms other than some weakness. She had bathroom privileges with assist. Imagine my horror hearing that she called for assist in the evening and was told by a pca, nurse tech or whatever they are called in this place that she had a pull up on and she should just pee herself. She was told this not once but on multiple occasions during the night shift. Both my mother and I are nurses and cannot believe that this behavior is acceptable in a facility such as yours. Your DON and CEO can expect a letter of complaint on behalf of my aunt and this will be reported to the Department of Health. Shame on your staff! They require retraining , better yet, they need to be fired as I understand my aunt was not the only one to be told this.
My father spent four months there before dying there a few years ago. Obviously almost any nursing home is going to be a depressing place, and DeWitt was no exception. Some of the staff were extraordinarily kind and helpful; most were inattentive and a couple not nice at all. The biggest problems, as I recall, were the sheer physical ugliness of the rather cramped old building (narrow halls, low ceilings), an unusually slow elevator, and, most of all, the fact that the single physician in charge -- at least at that time, a young woman who had her own private practice elsewhere -- seemed to visit DeWitt only infrequently, a few days a week at most, would make quick, superficial rounds, and would not readily respond to my fathers individual questions and needs. It was like dealing with an unsympathetic government bureaucracy.
Ms. Allison, the speech and swallow therapist was very professional, kind and very respectful toward my dads condition/s. The RN: Yahaira Rivera Rosario is very sweet, kind and professional on what she does. She (Yahaira Rivera Rosario) was administrating or given medicine to my dad and she was very patience and understanding with his needs. My dad’s name is: Jose Santiago. Also, ms. Cheryl Oliver was very nice and polite. She introduced herself and asked me twice if my father was ok?...or if I want my father to be change or anything else, to call her.
My 91yr old Mother was transferred here after undergoing hip surgery & full replacement elbow surgery. At first I was very happy with the facility. The CNA’s & Nurses were lovely to my Mom. And then it turned for the worse. Her rehab was horrible. They had her handing from a hoyer lift for 6 weeks - a lazy way to move her.She still can’t walk, wasn’t trained to transfer from bed to chair, wasn’t trained to use a commode....nothing. But they got paid for a job not done.At the 6 week mark. they wanted her gone which we appealed because they were cutting her loose 4 weeks to early. Under Medicare she is entitled to 100 days. They knew they were discharging a risk patient and threatened that if I didn’t accept the hoyer lift which takes 2 medically trained people to navigate, they were going to send her home with no services - No Nurse, No Aide, No PT & OT. And when I objected and refused the liability they were shoving down my throat - the administrator said “Lady I didn’t pick up this call to get yelled out - we are done” and hung up on me.So I had to accept the hoyer lift to get her services and accepted an medically unsafe discharge.I now have to do their work at home. Potty train her on a commode which they didn’t provide because they never trained her. And I’m working to get her moving again. My two Medicare appeals were sadly denied and I just found out why. They forged her paperwork that was submitted to Medicare. They wrote she is able to walk 40 ft on her own while holding onto a wheelchair. That is a lie. Everything they put in her paperwork for the appeal contradicted her discharge papers. That is insurance fraud, perjury, lie, unethical behavior & elder abuse. I don’t care how long it takes but justice will be prevail. What they did to my Mom is a crimeDid I mention they broke her dentures and Christine - social worker wouldn’t agree to pay for them until she knew how much they would cost?
If I could give this place 0 Stars I absolutely would. This facility is horrendous and would never recommend to anyone else. Services are absolutely horrible, every person passes blame to the next because its not their job to care. My Grandma was here for over a month and we took better care of her ourselves when we came to visit. Came here for rehab and we would have been better off just bringing her home and asking for out patient care.In summary, if you are a half decent human being do not bring your family members here.
This place is a concrete jungle rude people rude administrator rude cna... Id rather die than be here... Ill be good as dead. Short in people. We needed a bucket for the commode it took me 5 hours to get one. Remote for the tv was missing it take hours to get another one. My elder lost her hearing aide here. Plus she got bedsore here and fell on her bed. The wound doctor took hours to come by. The first wound doctor was very rude. I needed to ask if she will check the bruise on my elders eyes she said no in a very rude manner. Even Steve the admin is bias. He accused me of going into the patients room and wants to review cameras. So unbelievable people. If you guys love your job do it with all your heart like PT Mathew and GG are the best PT ever.
I Volunteered to visit an elderly person residing at this hospital. I was on the 8th Floor & the staff appeared to be ignoring the other elderly people’s basic needs. One man was shouting for a bed to sleep in for 2 hours. It was very sad. There was also another occasion when I walked into the day room on the 8th floor and a lot of the elderly residents were again being ignored when asking staff for simple help like getting to their rooms. Staff did not appear nor display any compassion on the 8th Floor. Very hurtful to watch.
The fourth floor of this facility is ridiculous. There is only one nurse, Lannie and one aide Mrs Le Lange that are really dedicated to their job. If its a floating aide or one of the others forget about it because they will not change the patients. There have been about 5 occasions where the patient I was visiting had a soaked diaper and he has only been at this facility for a month and a half. I would not recommend this place as a long term treatment center for anyone. The one plus side is the 2nd floor and the Physical and Occupational Therapists. They are all dedicated and really care about the patients and go out of their way for them.
My father stayed in this horrible excuse for a nursing center for two weeks and when his insurance ran out they didnt tell him and tried to charge him without telling anyone. There is nothing positive at all to say about this place except for one nurse named Tamara on the 14th floor and one rehab specialist. This place is a total disgrace and should be shut down. They are abusive and withhold medications. Instead of doing their jobs they are at the nursing station having conversations about their social life while residents are pressing the call bells. They are too concerned with their social life to care about anything else its disgusting and very disrespectful. How did they get their licenses and are they all licensed??? The business management staff is very disrespectful and rude and could care less about your loved ones. What if it was their loved ones? My father not only was completely disregarded but he got worse because of their constant ignoring and an outbreak of the flu that they took no precautions for. My dads roommate was ignored and couldnt even get anyone to help him to the bathroom at 96 years old . These ppl are supposed to put their patients and their families at ease yet I was terrified and had to go there everyday to take care of my dad because they werent. What is insurance paying them for?? To have personal conversations and get paid to sit on their butts all day???It used to be DeWitt Nursing Home and that place was awful but he Would have been better off there!! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY AND INVESTIGATED. RESIDENTS ARE SEVERELY MISTREATED. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES THERE PLEASE!!
This place SEEMS well run and very friendly BUT once your loved one is admitted they DO NOT shower them as they claim to, they DO NOT change their dispers/clothing as they claim to and once you point it out they lead you to believe it was a mistake and assure things will change but reality is THIS PLACE IS A FRAUD from their unprofessional nursing staff to their incompetent social workers and trying to speak to the Director is impossible.PLEASE TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES ELSEWHERE. My mom has been in this place time and time again shes never bathed or changed or fed and im tired of excuses AND ALWAYS GETS BED SORRS. Whoever is claiming this facility is great is either scared of the repercussions or delusional. They charge $500+ for a 4 person room where sleep is non existent. The entire facility should be replaced and fine combed by the IRS and State Officials.BEWARE
I spent two months at the Upper East Side Rehabilitation Center and the staff there helped to make my stay a somewhat pleasant one. My physical therapist Shital was beyond superb, she has managed to get me walking after not being able to for over a year. Her calm and gentle yet task enforcing personality, helped me to build my strength and confidence again. I’ve worked with many physical therapist over the years but none compares to her. I am thoroughly delighted to be back on my feet thanks to her wonderful expertise and natural ability. My OT Keisha helped me with relearning basic every day routines such as dressing myself and enhanced my confidence in walking without assistance she has also drastically reduce my hand tremor with simple exercises so that I could eat properly. I must say also that the facility is tremendously under staffed with one nurse issuing medications to about 40 patients which results more often than not in my medication either being given late, or mistakes were made or they are out of my vital medications. That area needs to be seriously addressed. I want to emphasize that the RNs Chloe, Jezza and Vivian where excellent they gave wonderful care to me. The CNAs are absolutely wonderful, especially Barbara, Roxanne, Olga, Pascual, Sylvia and Carmen who responds promptly to me and never seize to make me laugh.
I gave 2 stars because the physical therapists are very nice and they realy try their best to push and motivate the patient most of the RN s are ok, but 90% of the CNAs are HORRIBLE,RUDE they do mediocre work and at night your loved ones will go all night without a diaper change.. If your loved one is complaining about this place listen to them, these women know how to put on a show to look busy or make it seem like they are doing something..There is so much more i can say, but trust me you need to pay close attention......
Being right up the block made it very easy for us to pick this place but once my mother was there I noticed how amazing the staff was. The attentiveness you brought to Connie was absolutely superb. Im glad shes home now, she constantly tells me how much she misses the place. Thank you again for taking care of her in her time of need best of luck to all of you
The PT people are wonderful but my issue is with the social workers and so called psychologists. first when they let my mom go home after seven weeks we were told they called in the meds to the pharmacy. i believed them. at 9 pm that night we found out they never called it in so my mom had no meds for that night which is dangerous. when i called them they put me through to someone but it was just a machine. i called in the morning no call back. crazy.our family asked for my mom to see a psychologist as she wanted to talk to someone. she met with the person once but they never returned. i did leave a message with the social worker two weeks before she came home that she never saw this person again. that week my mom said this woman visited her and told her she saw her twice a week but she just does not remember. My mom has a very good memory and what she said scared her. the woman was lying. i talked to a friend who told me they did that to their family member too who was in this same hospital- blamed the patients memory issues for forgetting they saw the psychologist. this is a cruel thing to do to any elderly person. why gaslight and lie and in the process make the patient scared? how do they sleep at night?i also asked the nurses for a band aid when i was there and it took them a half hour to find one. There are very kind nurses here and also PT people...but their practices in the social work psychology dept is not only cruel but dangerous.
CONT VIA ALYSSA RIVERA... They are short of staff, short on supplies and if you ask them for a diaper, they say that they have to go downstairs because there is no diapers on this floor, the staff are extremely lazy and they do not care about none of these patients, they just care about the money!!! He was admitted at 6:00pm on September 16th,2017, so why the lady who was assigned to him, comes in here close to 9:00pm when her shift is almost ending, if I was not there, he would have been soaking in pee?!!! So the next day on September 17th,2017, my uncle is there with my grandfather, and the first thing that he notice is that my grandfather is drenched in urine, they did not change him at all and he also notices that its cold in the room but my grandfather is drenched in sweat and he is having difficulty breathing, my uncle literally had to go off and get mad, and it seemed like they didnt care, they did come though. so they take his vitals, the lady named Grace, that took his vitals slips and say this equipment is always broken, doesnt even really work. checks his oxygen 97 ,but he is in pain so they gave my grandfather Morphine, they do this thing when it is time to give medication they ask you to step out of the room for some reason, made me wonder if they are giving the correct medication. So my sister, his other granddaughter ends up coming to see him, he looks worst than before, his body is cold to the touch but he is still drenched in sweat and his breathing has gotten worst, so my sister calls the nurse and tells her, all she says is that she is going to call the supervisor, supervisor never came or called back. To find out there is only 1 doctor there at this facility of 400 patients, my sister asks for the doctor and they say he is feeding somebody right now this whole time they keep saying oh he looks fine to me. My uncle from the beginning kept on telling them that something is wrong with his father but nobody didnt care or listen. So my sister ends up calling 911, the EMT shows up, they check his oxygen, and its 78 like are you kidding me?! The entire time his oxygen was 78. Grace his nurse lied and said she noticed this at 6:00pm, she lied because my uncle kept saying something is wrong from this morning. My grandfather was suffering from a Cardiac Arrest this whole time and this facility did absolutely nothing!! The nurse was literally running out the door with her purse and jacket leaving to go home and not caring!! If my sister was not there, no 911 would have been called. My grandfather was rushed to lenox hill hospital, they did a x-ray on him, you couldnt even see his lungs because there was so much fluid, to find out he had gotten pneumonia, the hospital gave him a C-PAP machine, he started throwing up, suffered a seizure and unfortunately passed away yesterday night on September 17th, 2017! I blame this facility the cause of my grandfathers death because if they would have rushed him to the hospital in the morning he definitely would have had more time being alive and us spending more time with him! If you care and love your family members, I highly suggest and recommend that you please take them out of this facility! This facility and the whole entire Staff, Doctor, and Supervisors does not care about these patients at all, they do not check up on them, they neglect all of them, they mistreat them, abuse them, disrespect them. So if your family members are still alive, take them out of here! This is not a place for nobody to be in! THEY NEED TO GET SHUT DOWN!
We were so looking forward to rehab as the next step before going home. However, after a 4 week stay in NY Presbyterian, my beloved Fred regressed the first week at UESRehabilitation and passed away at the end of the second week. I was very disappointed in the doctor (Klein) who never returned my calls but had one of his assistants call me. On the day Fred died, I had called him several times on his cell which he did not answer so I knew he was worse. Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. I called the nurses station about 5 or 6 times and no one ever answered the phone. Around 4 p.m. I called Dr. Kleins office and his assistant returned my call telling me what they had done for him during the day. And 20 mins. later a nurse called me to say he passed away. Just that. No one ever called me again. Edwin, the night aide, was fabulous as were most of the nurses but they are short staffed. And, as a Center, they lack compassion.
I was a patient for two months recovering from major knee reconstructive surgery. I received outstanding physical and occupational therapy as well as great nursing care. When I was admitted I could not walk and two months later I can walk outdoors confidently for significant distances with either a rollator or a cane. I cannot say enough good things about Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
UESRNC is very very clean The patient advoate Jun visits me everyday and gives me treats . The RNS, CNAS , are polite. They make sure yourre always safe. When you ring the bell , it doesnt take too long to get to you . The physicians come visit you on a regular basis .therapsit are very good. Whatever you need , as long as they are reasonable they try to accomodate you .There are so many activities to keep you busy .If not for UESRNC I would not be walking today .I highly recommend UESRNC to anyone needing rehabilitation .
Great workplace! Innovative and new technologies (i.e. Jintronix and Kore balance for advanced balance training!) used for Physical/Occupational Therapy makes the workplace interesting and more fun. Not to mention, the clientele is diverse and so is the staff, creating a culturally inclusive environment. The staff are nice and helpful to one another, working as a well oiled team. The Director of Rehab, Sushant, has been a great mentor and help in starting my career. If I ever have concerns/questions regarding the job, the rehab office is always willing to listen and take their time to sit down with you!
Stay far away from this place if you can! My mother in law had the unpleasant experience of being in this place after hip surgery. It’s filthy, understaffed and it was just a horrible experience. Her social worker Megan was the rudest person I have ever come in contact with in my entire life and I’m an attorney!
The elevators is this place are crazy, have to wait 20 minutes for an elevator every time I visit especially during peak hours, even more if a elevator is broken. They should have an elevator just for the patients. Whenever I try to bring my grandfather to the 17th floor or 3 floor for activities, its a gamble whether or not we will get an elevator that is not packed. He is in a wheelchair and can not squeeze in the elevator. The other day I tried to take him to the 17 th flloor for an activity and after waiting 20 minutes we gave up. He got very angry as he is in the early stages of dementia.
This place is like the Bates Motel, your love ones check it but wont check out. The staff on the 10th floor are horrible to its patients, The social worker Nancy B has an attitude she doesnt really care to assist you in any way. If you call the front desk to ask them to check on your love ones, the CNA, & nurses get an attitude and take it out on your relatives. There is a women on the 10th floor who is constantly crying in pain, it has been said the nurses are covering her mouth up so she doesnt scream too loud, this information is coming from the patients on that floor. this is not a joke. please do not send your love one here only if you really hate them I cant imagine someone hating their love ones that much. All the reviews on this nursing home are #TRUE 10/6/15.
This place is very short staff and not clean which gives off a strange smell, they also need to detail atleast two RN on each floor at nights. They need to do better because I see potential in this place. I am considering calling the Department Of Health and Department of Labor, to conduct an investigation.
I have never seen a place run so poorly that I am concerned for all the patients that go there. Administration does not respond, you can’t reach your family member to talk to them. They do not contact the family to keep them informed on the health of the patients. They order tests without reason. I had to call the ombudsman to help intervene with my family care. The worst was I requested a tranfer out of there and they did not honor my request.
It comes to me as a shock on how a medical facility can be so understaffed, in caring for the rehabilitating men and women brought to the medical facility for rehabilitation and medical care in their time of need. I have notice floors have different types of medical conditions to be resolved or addressed either in rehabilitation or Alzheimer’s or dementia & even hospice. But I have noticed shortness of certified nursing assistants [CNA] as well as a registered nurse [RN’s] to the floor. Who are unable to care for everyone in need, Even CNA’s are being hurt or injured while running around trying to attend the patients. Also some being a high fall risk. Has fallen numerous times due to lack of assistance or availability. Patients in the room removing the diapers and rubbing fascicles all over themselves and the linen, with a few incidents of throwing their fascicles, defecation which could be considered assault of bodily waste and fluids, medical waste. Which the C.N.A’s have to clean up. This hasn’t been a rare accordance, but an ongoing daily event at timesThe patients, that walks around at night while everyone is asleep, routing thru other personal belongings. Which I observed & other patient see them routing thru there belonging in the chair about 2:30 – 3:00 am in the morning.Outlook to this place is, you can change the name to what ever you want, it is and will always be DeWitt. They hide & remove quality equipment from state investigators, & may even bribe them. If your looking for a place, THIS place you need to pass up. No stars for them, all talk no resolution in recovery for the members that need it.
My Grandmother was in Dewitt , the care was beyond what was expected and the staff was so helpful . My grandma is back home now , but if she had to go anywhere we would bring her back to Dewitt. They just redid the whole lobby and doing lots of upgrades, now that the place is under new management .Thank you Dewitt for making my grandmothers stay so peaceful.
My mom went in ambulatory and with it and after three weeks was wheelchair bound and had the flu.She was admitted for rehab but housed in a nursing floor. She was left on the toilet for half an hour in her own mess before someone answered her call. This place does a good job of selling themselves but it was the worst experience ever!!
We went to Upper East Side with hopes of returning home after rehab and that we could work back to pre-surgery and pre-pneumonia capability. At the same time, we recognized that there was a large chance this was too much to expect and we were prepared for a potential downhill outcome.I’m happy to report that Upper East Side was a tremendous success from many standpoints and we have our patient home, healthy and improving. Ms. Marie Lamour, the Director of Nursing and the Social Work team continually checked in. Physical therapy had to work with him coming out of delirium, and Dr. Yurberg did a complete review of his prescriptions and she alone seems to have given him a new lease on life and eliminating drugs that were making Martin weaker rather than stronger. I’d also say meals were great as he had salmon twice a day and he always ate it.The net is that Martin is home and healthy and regaining all he had lost. Upper East Side was an excellent choice.
My sister had 5 bad bedsores buttock, calves and heels) & a few days to remove her because they could not help her, as if they had tried. 98 lbs. and needed a lift to get her into a wheelchair???? The bedsores were to the bone, and has wound care daily in a diff rehab ... Def. No care for 2 months she was there.
Rehab was fantastic.Shitlal Joshi PT worked tirelessly to get me walking independently.OT Natalia Pavliv was extremely patient. The therapies made the inadequacies in the food and administration attention something I was capable of overlooking once I got my priorities in order.
I wanted to thank the entire staff at Lenox Hill and Dewitt for the wonderful care my mother received. I struggled Over the past few months deciding how out family would be able to care for mom. Between the staff at Dewitt and Lenox hill, not only do I feel impressed; I feel like Mom gained an additional family. Thank you to everyone. From, Rose Fransel
If you seek employment here...Be prepared for the worst treatment from the HR Manager! Make sure you keep your schedule open because if she sets your interview by, example 10:00 a.m....She will be free to talk to you an hour and 30 minutes after!..She did it twice to me! The first time she made me wait 2 HOURS...the second time, 1 HOUR and 30 MINUTES!....Power Tripping at its BEST!

2022-06-19My mom has been living at the UES Rehab for the past year. Their staff is very caring and do their best to make my mom feel comfortable and safe. It doesn’t get five stars because of the bureaucracy which sometimes seems to interfere with continuity between departments. I think though, that their priorities are in the right place and that is to make sure patients are well attended and cared for with compassion and that family members have free access to their loved ones and can take advantage of the ample activities that the facility provides for its residents.

2022-09-12UES Rehab is a very mixed picture. The nursing staff and aides were mostly so pleasant and helpful. One day, we had a very early clinic appointment and when I arrived, mom was all ready to go! The people at the reception area are similarly friendly, helpful and kind. However, my experience with the MD, Social Work and Rehab Departments was quite the opposite. Communication was practically non-existent. I was invited to a treatment planning meeting with less than a days notice and because I am also a (mental health) professional, I could not attend. On another occasion, the assigned social worker wondered why she never got through to me on the telephone, which was frankly untrue, given my phone did not track any missed calls from her nor receive any voice calls. The physician caring for my mom made medical decisions without once communicating what might be going on and given that my mom was a patient at Cornell, I have a firm basis for comparison. Finally, although I understand that my mom was not a great candidate for much rehab, not once did anyone from that department communicate to me, despite the fact that she reportedly went to rehab each day. Very mysterious indeed. This is all being said from the prospective of having 24/7 private duty health aides with my mom during her month stay! And I am far from naive regarding healthcare.

2022-05-02My friend, 75, after a a fall went hopelessly dementia in one short week and was taken here. She has zero money and a lousy Advantage plan. Basically she is on the street but very lucky to be here! Yes social workers are useless, yes nobody ever sat down with me to explain the few bad options, yes doctors are mainly absent, yes the nurse is unresponsive, yes some of the workers down right nasty but some quite nice too, yes the place is old and gross in places, yes the out door area is nasty, yes some toilets barely flush, yes the food is not that healthy, yes I would not want to be there. But my friend does not see most of this and is doing quite well even enjoying some if it including the food and the regular entertainment. And oh yes this is a money machine too 🙄

2022-08-07My wifes brother stayed at Upper East Side for about 4 months at the beginning of this year. What prompted us to submit this review was his comment when it was time for him to go home: Can I stay here for another week? Hes had Parkinsons for a few years now so he had seen the inside of a few rehab centers. He had never reacted like this. At Upper East Side he found the staff friendly and respectful and, very importantly, he liked the food. The first week he complained. They feed me dog food. We found out that they were cautious because there may be is a risk of choking. They wanted to evaluate first so the food was mashed and ground. Once they concluded there was no risk, he started eating human food and liked it very much. Thats saying a lot as food is important to him. Towards the end of the stay, we concluded that we needed to make arrangements for him for 24-hour care. Upper East side kept him beyond the medicare benefit period while we scrambled to arrange the care. Truly above and beyond.

2022-07-03Do NOT send your loved one here. They took poor care of my father. Patients lie in their beds waiting 23 hours a day for rehab. My Dad is tall and his feet were hanging off the bed. As they are not allowed to put sides on the beds the solution was to put slippery gym mats on the floor in case he fell out.The food is awful and they put him on a puree diet which his neurologist said he did not need. And they sent him home with a gall bladder infection so I had to race him back to the hospital. When I told the ambulance drivers where hed been they just rolled their eyes. Apparently it has a poor reputation among those in the know.

2022-09-05Horrendous, dirty, care of patients terrible, husband came home w bleeding bed sores and rashes. never told him to turn sideways. never came regularly to help him to bathroom. this place should be shut down. social workers are ditzes and clueless about everything....took 4 days to get head wound nurse to get wound care and drain care. drain not emptied regularly...took 4 days for PT to start...you have to ask and be aggressive about the care of your spouse or loved one. DONT GO

2022-04-22This is the worse place ever. My mother was there for 15 days and only saw a Dr the first day she was admitted. My mother had surgery on her spine and no one came to change her bandage or check to see if the incision was healing properly. I had to finally go downstairs to the nursing office to get someone to clean her wound and change the bandage. The insurance company told me the notes sent to them said a Dr had seen my mother twice and said my mother could go home, which wasnt true. I took my mother out of there because I was afraid for her to stay any longer. And the food was inedible. Please dont ever take anyone you love or care for to this facility. They have the most uncaring staff I have ever come in contact with. It seems the CNAs were the only ones working and there was only 1 or 2 of them working on any given day. The Drs and Nurses did absolutely nothing. I wish I could give them zero stars.

2022-07-12I will give 0 if I can. I just resigned last month from this awful facility and thanks god I dont need to worry about I will loose my RN license. For both nurses and patients or families, DONT GO to this facility! Each department of the facility worked saperately. They dont know what is teamwork. The kitchen always sent wrong food, even bad food. I saw several times they sent milk already clumped and moldy cakes. The management team always very rude. They never know what is respect. The administrator even yelled at me when I waited in the HR office for my documents when he knew I resigned. I was told to left the facility right away and no way to get my documents. He threw me out like a trash. It was so rude for a men did this to a lady. The facility always lacking of staffs. They never had enough RNs and CNAs. If a patient need something, they need to wait for a long long time. Also, the administration team always moving patients to other floor in the facility as they want and without telling anybody. They just put patients into the room and then left. The families and nurses always looking for their patients. If patients needed COVID test report for appoinments, they would always told by administration and nursing office they were fine since they already vaccined and asymptomatic. It was so rediculors for them to say that. They never care what patients need. They only care get money from patients insurrance.Above all were all the things happened during the period I worked in the facility.

2022-08-24Please take the negative reviews on here very seriously. They are not exaggerations, nor are they a joke. Looks can be deceiving, and on the outside this place looks luxurious. Inside, it is a nightmare. That being said, there are some really good nurses, CNAs, physical therapists, occupational therapists and doctors who work in the facility, and the nightmare has nothing to do with them. It is the administration that makes it unbearable.Just to give you an idea, my mother had a stage 4 sacral bed sore during her 3 month stay/nightmare. On one hand, the nurses took great care and used negative pressure therapy and made tremendous progress, but at night the CNAs would leave her for hours in a soiled/dirty diaper. I would repeatedly complain to the administration and - with a straight face - the administrator would tell me that a CNA should be able to handle 30 patients at a time. So in a two hour, period they would have 4 minutes per patient. Ridiculous. My mother was fortunate that she had a privately hired aide by her side during the day to make sure her needs were consistently met, but a dear friend of ours had a less fortunate experience at Village Care Rehab (same horrible owners) and lost her life as a result of their consistent neglect.Again, I cannot honestly say that this place is 100% bad, because at the end of the day we had some wonderful doctors, RNs, LPNs, and CNAs…and my mother ended up with the most amazing occupational and physical therapists. I am forever grateful to these loving, caring and competent professionals. But the administration is pure evil; they don’t care about their staff and they especially don’t care about theiit patients. They only care about $$$ and shame on them, but especially shame on NY for allowing these places to exist while taking advantage of people during their most vulnerable times. It is heartbreaking and sickening; also a crime against humanity.

2022-08-04The staff on the 14th floor. The nurses and CNAs are excellent workers such cooperation and mannerisms. Very lovely people. One person stood out. A young lady by the name Pompey a CNA. She comes in and explains everything shes about to do before performing her duties. Always willing to make sure that her client is comfortable. No short cut. A very Lovely individual.
