I am angry at myself for not going to them sooner. Excellent service. Super professional. Dont try to upsell you on obvious BS. I am a customer for life. The tech on the phone was friendly and explained very clearly what I needed. He was very knowledgeable in both the mechanical aspects as well as pricing. When I came it to pick up the car and pay. There was no surprises about the price or services performed. Most importantly, everyone was super friendly and responsive.
David and his team at Urban Classics are top notch! Finding trustworthy mechanics in a big city can certainly be a challenge. Youre in good hands with this shop . They work hard to provide honest time and cost estimates. None of that shady stuff that weve all been through before. I do find myself a little embarrassed showing up with my junky 2004 toyota next to all the cool cars in the other bays, but it makes no difference to these guys - theyve always been courteous and professional. Thanks again!
Great place very knowledgable and attentive to issues I had with my car. No question you can trust these guys to do a great job and not rip you off. They are in it for the long haul unlike the dealership who will charge you double and not care if you come back. Down to earth and no attitude and smart technitions that know what they are doing.
I was nervous about finding a mechanic on my own in the city. This place has my complete trust. They communicate everything to me before they do anything, they are honest about what’s urgent and what isn’t, and they’ve been keeping my car running in its old age. They even once overcharged me accidentally (just duplicated a service by mistake) and I didn’t notice but they called me the next day and told me about it and issued a refund for the accidental charge.Everyone there is friendly and seems to really love what they do which says a lot.
This team is incredible and will do right by you - I cannot recommend enough! They are transparent with their pricing, warm & friendly, and speedy as can be - my repair was done a day and a half after I received my estimate. This was my first time getting work done on my car while living in BK, aka away from my home-town mechanic, and I felt just as valued by them as I do back home!
Brought in a recently purchased used Wrangler TJ that was experiencing some significant death wobble/ caster oscillation issues. Urban Classics took a thorough look, explained the potential culprits and provided a recommended course of action. Had the car back in about a week and its now been two months with no more wobble issues! There were some minor miscommunication issues and some extended well-call-you-back wait times, but I think thats ultimately got more to do with just how busy they. Overall, very satisfied with the service and will be returning for future work.
I called them months back when I lost my car keys- they assisted me with speed and empathy. I was able to get back on the road in no time and for a quarter of the costs from my “loyal” mechanic. Today- I switched to them and they again have not let me down. They’re organized, competent, and joyful. What else can you ask for! Thank you!
A wonderful car mechanic shop. So very professional and reliable. They really do quality work, they’re not swindlers trying to convince you to fix a problem you don’t have. They’ve handled two of my cars in the last 5 or more years. Recently I called just to ask what type of oil they last used (relevant to me since I wanted to refill) and they right away pulled up my info, all very computerized and organized. A small example, but just another way they’re professional and organized and “on the ball”. So blessed I found them.
Urban Classics Auto Repair is the real deal! From person answering phone to David the owner...all knowledgeable, personable and dedicated to great results for customers.Recently my 2008 Acura MDX broke down in Brooklyn (Im from Pittsburgh) on a Sunday. I called AAA and they suggested vehicle be towed to Urban. I quickly read reviews and said sure/OK, Urban looks good. However, tow truck driver took MDX to a different repair shop. (I found out later that driver probably did right thing because parking that Sunday was limited at Urban.)I was worried about a shop/driver scam because my MDX ended up at a shop other than Urban (where AAA told me MDX was going), so I called Urban on Monday morning. Person answering phone was very helpful and got David on phone. I told David what had happened to the MDX (transmission slipping badly then much fluid loss after we pulled over). David explained to me what he thought happened, how it could be fixed, how much it might cost, and risk of trying to fix (car getting old...at some point not worth repairs....). After first call, David even checked in with me to see how I was doing with the shop where the MDX ended up.After I talked with David, the repair shop where the MDX ended up called. Their actual diagnosis, repairs needed, cost, and risks matched almost exactly to what David told me. Because of the conversation with David, I was confident to go ahead with the shop that had the car.Repairs were made (issue was broken radiator which not only caused loss of radiator fluid, But also all transmission fluid lost). Our risk after repairs was that the transmission was damaged from the time running without fluid. Turned out transmission was fine and MDX running well.Bottom line....even though David did not actually do the repairs, he helped me ALOT! He knows what he is doing and cares about people/customers.
This was my first experience with Urban Classics after coming off a dealer service contract. Even though I only requested a state inspection and oil change, I was treated as a valued customer throughout the entire process. As I had also asked for a general checkout, they let me know of a potential issue to be monitored, but were quite honest that it is not urgent, and does not need to be repaired right away. If that had been my dealer, Im sure that I would have been told I need it right away. I will definitely be back, and will not look anywhere else. The positive online reviews are an accurate reflection of my experience.
I feel so lucky to live just a 10 minute walk from Urban Classics. They are professional, friendly, and dont try to price gouge you. Theyve done a fantastic job helping me take care of my 17-year-old Toyota Echo and they always do a routine vehicle inspection whether youre getting an oil change or having your front windshield replaced as I recently did. They update you daily about their progress and if youve been in the front office, you know that theyre also embedded in the Bed-Stuy/Clinton Hill community. I cannot recommend this place enough for all your car needs!
Brought in my 2000 pontiac, which they kept for a couple of weeks, BUT was worth it. At the end of it all, my grand am had to be put down, and thats why I trust this shop. David called me to recommend I NOT do any work on the car and consider buying a new one. Many other shops would have just done whatever work they can find and charged the heck outta me. Not this shop. They were straight up and told me it wasnt worth the repairs, even if it meant lost revenue on their end.10/10 would recommend to anyone whos looking for an honest, hard working repair shop that aims to please. Thank you Urban Classics. Wish I could have found you earlier.
Been going here for years whenever I need to service or upgrade my cars. This place is the best mechanic shop in town hands down. The crew takes care of my vehicles like its their own. I feel like family whenever I come around and I always leave happy with my problems solved. Trustworthy mechanic who does not try to play any games. 10/10
I got into a bind on a Tuesday morning... I was stranded with Serious car trouble it wouldnt start. I called the Jeep dealer; who recommended I have my car towed. But not to them they were all booked up. I call AAA to arrange a tow and request a recommendation for an auto repair shop. AAA gave me the number for Urban Classics Auto Repair. I spoke with David he was awesome. Instead of waiting for a tow he instructed me to try to get a jump. It worked! He saved me lots of money on a tow. Instead of $150 I paid 15 bucks for jump and drove straight to Urban Classics Auto Repair shop. I was going out of the country on a girls trip to celebrate my birthday and needed my car fixed so that when I returned I could go back to work Urban Classics Auto Repair and David were nice enough to repair my car and store it there until I returned from my trip at no extra cost. The price was very reasonable/ extremely Fair. The service was excellent.I found myself a new mechanic! Urban Classics Auto Repair is highly recommended!
They are super busy during the pandemic as more people are driving. So it takes longer than it used to. But deep down their service commitment is very high, their quality of work and knowledge seems really high, and they seem like good people who do things for the neighborhood. Totally recommend
Great service. Had my AC compressor and washer fluid pump replaced and both are working great. Car was in for just a week. John kept in touch to let me know everything they found and if any changes had to be made. Taking my car back soon for a handful of other things it needs.
I would like to use Urban Classics more often only problem they take a couple days to get to your car then another couple days to fix it. For most of us that dont have the luxury of multiple vehicles, that is a big inconvenience . If you have patience, you will be satisfied with their service.
I always feel that I receive expert, authoritative information about needed repairs, maintenance, and protection of my vehicle when I come to Urban Classics Auto Repair. I always feel that Urban Classics uses state-of-the art methods and equipment to accurately evaluate my car and give it the servicing it truly needs. The staff is always courteous, professional, and friendly
I love urban classics and come here for all my car needs. The team is super accommodating and works hard for their customers. They are honest and professional and I trust them when it comes to my car. I recommend this shop to everyone looking to have a trusted place to bring their cars.
Quality, Honest, Reliable...Urban classics is a place where you can drop your car off and know that your in good hands. Ive been a customer for 25 years.Dave and his staff treat you better then a one time fix it shop. Once you become a customer you become a friend . I find that every time I had a question or concern about my car and I called the shop ...they always found time to answer my questions and find the best solution for the situation. Its a very busy shop ,appointments are appreciated but emergency visits are always welcomed .I find this shop to be more then a mechanic shop . They try there best to help you all the time .if its a light bulb, a dash board light ,air for your tire , a big job or a small job the team really does there best to get you in and out.
They are the best. Outstanding customer service. Friendly and understanding. Trustworthy. They diagnose and fix all issues with my Nissan maxima promptly. I have been taking care of maintenance and repair issues here for over two years and I always have a great experience. I found them by accident when I needed an inspection in a hurry and they delivered as promised. I remain impressed with their professionalism. No need to look elsewhere. This place is a rare gem.
I had previously taken my car to Infiniti of Bayside not once, but twice, because my car was jerking while I was driving and when I shifted gears. Clearly something was wrong. But I left Infiniti both times with no answers after paying them $330. I did a google search for a mechanic shop near my house and Urban Classic popped up, with great reviews so I took it in that day. They found out what the problem was, a pretty major problem at that... but I’m just glad my car is back on the road and I felt good about the work that was done and how well it was explained to me, too. When you drive off with your vehicle you want to feel confident in the work that was done, and I definitely felt that way. Bonus too that the job that was done is also warrantied for two years! Worth the money and the wait. Highly recommend this auto repair shop.
The guys at Urban Classics are the most professional mechanics Ive every dealt with. They are honest, knowledgeable, hard-working, and trustworthy. They also keep an IMMACULATELY clean service shop and office (seriously, not a speck of dirt). Ive had nothing but great experiences with Urban Classics. I found this shop through Google, after calling a dozen other shops regarding my Chevy Sonic LT. Every other mechanic I spoke to had no idea how to fix my car, and only referred me to a dealership. After calling Urban Classics and explaining my problem, they invited me to bring my car over the same day and assess the situation. They showed me respect and honesty and quickly gained my trust. Since my initial visit, they serviced my car a handful of times, correcting whatever issues that were preventing my car from passing the NYS inspection. I truly can not say enough good things about this shop. They are now the ONLY mechanics I trust my vehicle with. I highly recommend Urban Classics Auto Repair to other-- no matter what borough you live in, its worth making the commute for these guys!
The most professional, clean, and friendly place to get your car serviced. I found this place when I needed a car inspection, and ever since, I have had a cam sensor replaced, brake pads and rotors, battery replacement, and oil change. They honor AAA discounts and are ever so quick and efficient in making sure your car is safe to drive. Not once have I ever felt pressured to get any unnecessary work done. The staff are all patient and knowledgeable and are willing to answer any and all questions related to your car.Im typing this up on my phone on Thanksgiving Day, a day I am thankful to be on the road travelling safely in my vehicle with my family, thanks to Urban Classics.
Ive already written a review for these guys- about a year ago- the last time they got me out of a bind in a snow storm and after hours, but i felt i had to write an updated one, to highly recommend them yet again... I was totally stuck and had to be somewhere really important leaving memorial day friday. I got the car to them that morning and they got a part and even stayed later to get it fixed so i could get on the road. For these guys its not about just the money. They care about you, your safety, and helping you out, often at really inconvenient times for them. They look for the least expensive way to help you and are the most reliable mechanic/auto shop Ive EVER used, seen, or heard of...so much so, that Ive paid extra to tow there even when my car is stuck far from them. Thanks to the guys at urban classics, I always know if something happens to me on the road, Ive got people i can count on to help me. It makes me feel safer. Ill never go anywhere else anymore!!.
I found Urban Classics Auto through AAA. Despite this I did my own vetting. I must say they are the real deal. I have an 07 Hyundai Azera. They did a very extensive overall check of my car and I already knew of some underlaying problems it had, but I said nothing. They found those problems and other ones I wasnt aware of.Since having my car serviced and repaired here its running and sounding better than ever.THANK YOU!!!! Urban Classics Auto Repair you guys rock and have earned my sincere patronage.
I must say, Urban Classics Auto has gone above and beyond. I took my car back to them for some additional work with I thought was minor work. At least I thought it was going to be minor. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I was not able to do all the work due to my having been financially affected due to COVID-19. I explained this to them at Urban Classics Auto and that I would not be able to afford to do the necessary work but would only do a portion of it. They later called me and informed me that it was taken care of. I was totally surprised, I never imagined this would ever happen.David, you and your team at Urban Classics Auto are amazing. Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness.
The crew here are very friendly and very attentive. I had a mystery light on my Dashboard and they spent multiple sessions, time and energy, into figuring it out. They treated me with such kindness and patience. I appreciate how thorough they are and will recommend them to any car owner in NYC.
I am lucky to have such a great shop within walking distance from home.I recently purchased a used Fiat and had Urban Classics do a ten point pre inspection buy which revealed a few small issues... After purchase Urban Classics repaired these issues and worked with my warranty to make sure I did not pay out of pocket. Great communication the whole way through and it was all done in a timely manner. I will not hesitate to go back or recommend for any repair big or small.
I can’t say enough great things about this shop. Any repair shop can fix a mechanical problem, cars aren’t that hard to figure out. What Urban Classics does so well is not only repair your vehicle properly but they do it with a level of grace and professionalism that is unparalleled. The staff at Urban Classics is simply the best and there’s absolutely no reason you should spend any time looking anywhere else to get your vehicle serviced.
In regards to customer care, quality service and work, this has been (by far) one of the best experiences i’ve had since moving to new york.i went in for an oil change, expecting to get a list of other needed repairs once the oil change was done. i did get a list, AND unlike most places that try to scare you into getting things done immediately, john (who i interacted with the most), went through the list explaining the importance of each item and also giving me a timeline as to when i should consider getting these things done. there was no pressure at all, just genuine care and concern for me and my vehicle.i felt personally taken care of by both the office personnel and the mechanics. highly recommend!
I live across the street and Im so happy I have these guys nearby. They are absolutely professional, kind and meticulous. Their shop is clean and organized, which I appreciate, as I believe is speaks volumes as to the kind of business being run behind the scenes. All of the techs are also friendly, which is unfortunately a rarity with most shops. I met David today, and he is transparent, ethical and it is obvious he is looking out for his customers best interests. 5 Stars.
We have always had wonderful service at Urban Classics. Dave and his team are professional--they know their stuff and are efficient, while taking the time to clearly explain what needs to be done and the work that was done, as well as what can wait to be done later. Even better, they go out of their way to make servicing convenient and easy. And, they are friendly to boot! We are very happy to have found them.
This place has saved me several times..! The mechanics are great at explaining the issue, taking you step by step on how to fix the issue, not to mention that they are very friendly.Very grateful that I found a place that I feel I can trust with my car.Absolutely recommend this place
Truly the most honest people in the business I have ever met. I never want or even think to ask for a discount or a break on the service fees because they are more than reasonable and they go above and beyond to show that they really care. Im grateful. So grateful that after seeing the first review I wrote (on my cellphone and in a rush ), I realized my POOR TYPING and wanted to show that I really meant it. I feel better now;-)
I found the service and professionalism of Urban Classics Auto Repair a cut above the rest! My only regret is that I didnt go sooner! David had thorough explanations on what I need for my car. Its a relief to FEEL and SEE that youre leaving your car with professionals. Thanks for taking care of my Cadillac CTS Urban Classics Autor Repair - its appreciated.
John was amazing from the minute I called, until after I drove away. I was literally moving from NYC to 700 miles away and the morning I set out to leave, my car sputtered and died a few blocks away.My sister and brother-in-law use Urban Classics for their car and have loved the service, so I called them right away, and they said they could squeeze me in that day, knowing I needed to be on the road right away.John called me and broke the news that the repairs were extensive (I have an old 1999 Honda CRV) and was kind and patient as he explained each issue and how it affected the cars safety and his estimate on pricing. I took the night to think about it, as the repairs would cost more than the vehicle was worth...In the morning, I talked with John more and we decided to invest in the cars longevity and we decided one of the repairs could hold off and John said he could fix it all that day! I was so impressed with their kind and professional demeanors and fast turn around of my 20 year old car.I used my AAA card to get a small discount (everything helps!) and the car was purring like it had been at a younger age! (we repaired the exhaust downpipe, muffler, brakes, rotors, calipers, and brake lines)The next morning I took off on the 700 mile trek and made it safely to my new destination!Im hoping with those fixes, and a few more, this car will last me another 200,000 miles.Thank you so much John, David, and Urban Classics! You all are amazing!!
Was tired of many local shops that rudely mumble something over the phone IF they even pick up the phone in the first place. This is a rare gem of a professional shop this neighborhood needs. Courteous staff and honest timelines of when the work will be done. Will be coming back.
I took my car in for an oil change & they called me saying I needed $2k worth of extra work done. One was the water pump that I had replaced (by someone else) a little over a year prior. Feeling like most of what they wanted me to do was probably unnecessary, I took it back to the place that previously did my water pump, and they said that everything, except for one of the things, was fine and didn’t need replacing. They have done a good job in the past with oil changes, but I’d be very careful about any extra work they say you need. Always get a second opinion! Also, they lost one of my hubcaps once, claimed they were going to get me a replacement, and never did!
AWESOME!We were moving my son to Brooklyn when his car broke down ON the Brooklyn Bridge! After discussing our options with AAA we chose Urban Classics Auto Repair- What a great decision ! They quickly diagnosed the problem(s), provided an estimate and are currently effecting the repairs. David and Mark were respectful of my time and arranged transportation for me to return to helping my son complete his move. Despite the stress and inconveniences that occurred David and his staff were a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend them!!!!
Their customer service and people who work here are great! During my road trip from CA, my car had weird sounds so I brought the car to an other mechanic but they couldn’t find its cause but Urban Classics Auto Repair found it and solved this problem. I would come back again if I lived in here. Thank you!
Going to Urban Classics is like seeing a really excellent doctor. Seeing them usually means somethings wrong... But they take care of the problem with great skill and customer service. David leads a really friendly, sharp, and fast-working team of technicians. I will continue trusting Urban Classics with all of our auto needs.
I’m from out of state and my AC quit in my honda. this place had such good reviews.. so i wanted to take a chance. i called 3 days in a row for an estimate/appointment. every day someone took my number and PROMISED someone would call me back. never heard from them 🤣✌️🤷♀️
Wow, this place is amazing! Great service, truly nice people and they really know what they are doing. I trust them 100% and am so glad I found them. Also they know European engineering well, great for servicing my old VW! Really lucky to have found them based on all of these other glowing reviews.
I always get my oil changed here. They are always super friendly and really efficient. One time they told me that there was something wrong with my breaks and took the time to demonstrate what was happening with a stapler and a bottle cap. It was impressive. They should consider a side gig in puppeteering. I couldnt afford to replace the break pads and roters at the time and they were really respectful about it. Normally auto repair places use all these fear tactics like FIX YOUR BREAKS NOW OR YOUR CAR WILL IMPLODE. They were more like, yeah you should get it done sooner rather than later, but come back when you have the money. Thanks Urban Classics.
The people who work at Urban Classics Auto are tremendously attentive. They never try to price gouge you or make you think you need more work done than you do. They lay out any repairs in an easy to understand and clear manner and make sure you understand everything before you pay for it.
I brought my car in at 7:00am for an inspection but needed it by 10am. They promised to have it done by then and it was. The only thing I would have appreciated knowing when making the appointment at 7am is that they dont start working until 8am - which I found out when I arrived. The owner and crew were very pleasant.
This is a long one, but I think its worth the read.2005 Ford escape xlt 59,9976 miles:I had my radiator changed at another repair shop in the Carrol Gardens area. After the radiator change the car started misfiring on 4 out of 6 cylinders. They told me I needed a new engine. I told them I didnt think they were right since the car hadnt hit 60k yet.I took the car to Urban Classics Auto Repair and explained that I didnt agree with the first shop I went to.The cars maintenance is immaculate! Never had a problem ever with it until the radiator cracked. I believe it was John explained to me that they would diagnose the problem before anything would be done.A few weeks later after many test and trials they discovered that it was the CPU (computer system) that failed. They ordered a new one replaced the CPU and changed the coil packs and spark plugs (which is customary after changing the CPU). The car started and sounded like it did before. Runs great! Thanks Urban Classics Auto Repair!!I actually took the car back to the other shop to show the owner that it wasnt the engine. He was shocked! He also was sorry for the mis-diagnoses. He gave the Urban Classics Auto Repair the thumbs up!
Hi David,You and the Team are great ! As always, you all do wonderful complete work. And everyone knows me there, I feel so welcome when I arrive.I have known you for over 25 years, and am very happy you are still here and working hard, even with thisVirus - you guys are the best !The other post seemed to be from last year which I never sent, so here are two positive posts from me,Oh, got a joke for you next time I see you...remembered after the joke you told me.A very very happy client,Bob Kingsley
Please be advised that I have NOT been paid in anyway, shape or fashion for this review. I say that because I must applaud this establishment for their exemplary service and work. First, I met by the shops captain, if you will, DAVID. I had a few inquiries with respect to their labor rates, repair practice and assessed work estimates, which he explained firsthand. During my time at the shop, I was talking with David at the side of my car and one of the customers, who had been in the office, settling his repair order I supposed, passed us talking and as he was getting into his car, he assured me in a confident voice that I would be totally happy with this guy (meaning David, whom I share this great name with) or words to that effect. We all smiled in unison, as I was getting a good feeling about having my car repaired there before his statement. Yet, it is always a good sign when the community of customers easily display their satisfaction with a repair shop in NYC.Upon gaining enough information, I was left to consider whether or not I should allow a road test in order to survey what I had previously been told was the issue by two other auto repair facilities. I did have constraint on time and Urban Classics had already been open for at least two hours. The shop was extremely busy with customers and I felt that I would not be able to get an assessment and estimate in a timely fashion. However, David looked to what appeared to be his lead mechanic to ask if it was feasible for me to get in and out. The shop foreman, if you will indicated that it should not be a problem. Thus, in about twenty minutes or so, I had gone out on a road test with the service mechanic, who took my vehicle out on his own for survey and had the foreman roadtest the vehicle himself as well for opinion. And also had an assessment and estimate in my hand. During my dialog with the office personnel giving me the estimate, whom I believe to be JOHN, I wound up striking up a brief conversation with another customer. This customer was eager to advise that his years of experience with Urban Classics has been well beyond his expectations. He stated that he now lives in the Bronx, yet he had no problem coming to Brooklyn to have his vehicle serviced by Urban Classics because its worth it to him. He knows his car will be done properly and he wont be back to argue over repairs. Yet again another great note of encouragement to have my vehicle serviced at Urban Classics. I told John that I would drop the car off in the morning to have the initial repair concerns done. The following morning I brought my vehicle in at about 8:30am and about 1:45pm, John called me to advised that my car was ready for pickup. Upon retrieving my car, John advised that there was some difficulty getting my vehicle repaired properly without replacing the front wheel axle. I was concerned to hear this since no one contacted about the need for an additional part, which would increase my repair cost. However, John immediately advised that....wait for it, wait for it, THERE WAS NO CHARGE!!! Wow, what a great bunch of people. In fact, I failed to mention that there was an engine ground wire I pointed out to David that had broken off and although it is a simple task to repair, he did so at no additional cost. All said and done, I cannot say THANK YOU enough to URBAN CLASSICS for having repaired my vehicle to an excellent state, as it rides very well based on the repairs completed. Ladies and gentlemen, in a world where people are so proned to negative reports, I am pleased to give a report of a positive in that I FULLY RECOMMEND Urban Classics as a customer friendly establishment committed to doing the best job possible, pleasing the customer. Located of course in the great borought of BROOKLYN!Thanks again and many blessings the world over.
I have used David Goldstein of Urban Classics for many years, and I have nothing but good things to say about these guys. My car is not a classic, but they are excellent at modern cars as well. They have always tried to find me cheaper 3rd party parts when they can to save me some money. I have never once felt cheated or mistreated. They are always upfront about whats going on with the car; what they think it will take to fix; and given good estimates. In my experience, the total price at the end have never been higher than the estimate. Perhaps thats just luck, or perhaps its Urban Classics ability to save me some money on parts -- perhaps always quoting OEM parts. I highly recommend Urban Classics!
Ugh! 20+ yr customer until today. Went to pick up my car and it had obviously been used to deliver something. Dave, the owner, was totally unsympathetic and admitted that it had been used to pick up parts at his distributor in Queens. Even that didn’t explain the artificial moss and wood strewn about. If you don’t mind having your car used to deliver stuff for these guys, then by all means, go for it. Everyone else, stay away.
Highly recommended! When the engine started misfiring, I first took my 1998 Toyota RAV4 to Firestone in Crown Heights; after paying a $100 diagnostic fee, I was told the repair would cost another $800. I then went to Urban Classics in DUMBO; not only did they waive the diagnostic fee (since I had already paid Firestone), but Dave and his team were able to fix the problem for $130. It turned out Firestone wanted to sell me a bunch of ignition parts and a premium tuneup that I didnt need. UGS identified the problem (bad spark plug wire) and only fixed what needed to be fixed. They identified parts that were looking worn and might need repairs down the road, but they didnt put any pressure on me to spend more money. Incredibly, none of those potential problem parts matched the ones that Firestone wanted to replace for $800; to me, this just shows how crooked the Firestone shop was. At UGS, Dave (owner), Max (at the front desk) and Guang (the mechanic) were all extremely helpful and courteous to me; I could also tell they had great relationships with their regular customers. And also, did I mention that this was all done with same day service?!! They were extremely busy but I told them that I needed to go out of town that night; they totally delivered. (By contrast, Firestone initially told me that they could do same day, but this turned out to be a bait and switch.) My RAV4 is running great; the guys at UCS are honest and really know what they are doing. I cant say the same for Firestone.
This review has nothing to do with the services provided here, but rather some of the vile men who work here. I walked by here on my way to the grocery and was wearing extremely practical and non-revealing jeans and a tshirt. As I passed the establishment, one man who appeared to work here, called out to some coworkers who were inside the garage to come out, and they all proceeded to leer at me and make very unwelcome remarks. If I ever need to have a vehicle repaired in the area, I certainly would not come here.To the owner: it would behoove you to inform your employees that sexual harassment is not only unacceptable in the work place, but also in the entirety of the world.
Absolute rip off. They ran a diagnosis check and gave the car a once over and told me what was wrong. Front brakes and rotors was one issue. I purchased the brakes and rotors myself and when I asked how much to change them, the guy quoted me $220 for about 30 minutes of labor. ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!? My suggestion, find another place.
Easy 4 me 2 get 2 but I went in with 1 light on and when they gave the car back it had 2 different lights on and a 7 hundred dollar bill attached.... and no explanation of y the second light was on ... I will not be returning to this place.. they had my car 4 days and never told me whats wrong with it ... all they say is I think its this or I think its that RIP OFF
Had a quick, simple, and customer friendly experience at Urban Classics auto repair for a recent oil change. Personally, I hate navigating Brooklyn for repairs -- all these Quick Lube places make me nervous so I made sure to do some research and find a local shop with other great reviews. I was very happy I opted to bring my car here for service. The people behind the front desk are very warm, welcoming, and helpful. I knew my car was in good hands. A bunch of great coffee shops to frequent while you wait, or a comfortable sitting area (with A/C) to read mags if you dont want to go too far. Ill be back, for sure!
Thank god I didn’t use them. They wanted $700 to replace my belt and power steering pump, $600 to weld my muffin, and $50 for an oil change. For a second opinion, I took my car to Astoria A&G Auto Repair shop on 42nd And Broadway. He told me my belt only needed tightened. He didn’t weld, so he wired down my muffler down on so I could take It to My family’s mechanic in PA. He only charged me $25. The family mechanic welded my muffler for $85. Urban Classics just TRIED to take advantage of me cause I’m a woman. It’s a mans world.

2022-06-27They’ve done work on a car I needed towed there and that was a fine experience, nothing to write home about. I have a new car now and was looking for a local biz for a standard oil change (should take no more than 30 mins + wait time, usually an hour or two at most other shops). When I went to make an apt for an oil change they told me they’d need my car for FOUR TO FIVE DAYS???? Very fishy. I was skeptical about some of the other reviews saying that they take your car out for regular use while they have it, but what else could I assume when they tell me they need my vehicle for so much time to perform a simple oil change? Truly madness, and they’ve destroyed all my confidence in them. I went to a shop on Atlantic Ave and got my oil change completed in under an hour, including wait time. Wouldn’t recommend Urban Classics outside of being a spot where AAA will tow your vehicle for service 24/7.

2021-06-25They do shoddy work and will also hold on to your car in order to use it as their own personal vehicle for weeks without telling you. In fact, theyll tell you that they have not had a chance to work on the vehicle in the time it has been with them, but will continue to drive around town, pick up lunch and their friends that are not Urban Classics employees and generally hang out in your car. I only know because I accidentally walked past them doing so in my own car one day. Oh, theyll also bring it back damaged. The gist is I found two strangers hanging out and eating in my car as the shop was on the phone with me telling me that the car was in the garage.Stay far away from this place, theyre super shady and deeply inconsiderate. If you have a quote from them, get a second opinion and if you dont see your car out front when you pass by, chances are someones picking up a date and putting wear and tear on your car at your expense. Full description in the pictures if you have the patience to read it.

2021-10-28Urban Classic has been a god sent to our organization The Campaign Against Hunger, by helping us to keep our fleet of vans running enabling us to continue feeding New Yorkers in the middle of the pandemic. And has offered to assist with making sure we are able to continue to do so.The customer service is second to none, David is very knowledgeable, personable and kind, from day one he maid me feel like we were long time friends. He takes his time to make sure you understand what is going on with the vehicle and is very honest with his recommendations. This place is the real deal.

2019-01-27Great service at this small business in Brooklyn. I went to have an A/C check, as my Volvo stopped emitting air in the heat of NYC summer. Unfortunately they also found that my brakes were at the lowest level and needed replacing. As a skeptical New Yorker, I thought they were ripping me off (as many auto repair shops pull this same line). So, I got the brakes changed and took the old brakes back to my old dealer in VA where they reassured me that these guys were right. They also took the necessary first steps in diagnosing my AC issue. Unfortunately I had to drive to Virginia that week, so they made it safe to drive and I had further diagnostic testing elsewhere. They had the best customer service, and I would recommend them to anyone. They are trustworthy and knowledgeable. They are great with communication and I knew exactly what was going on throughout the entire process. Dont waste your time at other auto repair shops in Brooklyn. This one is the best.

2021-09-10I was planning a 6 hour road trip and wanted to get my car checked out and make sure everything was running smoothly before I did. the reviews here are what made me decide to pick this place and the staff was nice and friendly. I had a few minor things with the car i needed to take care of and they got the car back to me before my trip. I’m only leaving a review because the manager gave me a call today (a week after my trip) and asked me how it went. I mentioned a previous negative Experience i had with another car at another auto shop where the brakes on my old car failed, so it was really important to me that my car was checked out before I planned this trip. it meant a lot that the manager remember that conversation and called personally to see how everything went. Will definitely be bringing my car back here again for future repairs/maintenance.

2021-06-13Its hard to find a trustworthy and reliable mechanic, but look no further! They are knowledgeable, fair, and friendly. The first time I went everyone at the front desk introduced themselves making me feel more comfortable with trying a new garage. Theyre super busy so whether its an oil change or more extensive work, youll need to drop your car off for a few days. The labor prices are high (its NYC after all), but the parts were fair priced and they did an excellent job in fixing my a/c.

2022-01-28I have been going to Urban Classics for over 20 years, hands down the most knowledgeable, honest, trustworthy, and all around nice people. Could not recommend them enough!

2021-10-16Asked them to check my brakes (back brakes were making a noise) 5 months ago, and was told my brakes did not need to be fixed. The noise persisted and I told them about it and brought it back in. They told me they had missed the cause of the issue, and the issue only got worse over time, wearing down my front brakes. Not only did they then quote me an absurdly high price, they refused to make right the front brake issue that was caused by their negligence. I thought they were expensive because they did quality work, but it turns out they are just in the ripoff business. I went to another shop which will cost me 1/3 the price. I’ll never be back.

2021-05-11Great staff and great people. Quotes were always accurate and staff were always honest. They are a busy shop but for good reason. They were always able to get my truck up and running again. I moved out of state so had to find another shop but definitely would recommend them if you need any work.

2021-04-13I just got off the phone with John at Urban Classics and Im really disappointed. My first experience, about a year and a half ago, was a great one with the team. They helped me identify an electrical issue in my car which they couldnt resolve, but it pointed me in the right direction which helped me to get it fixed elsewhere. The team loved my car and we enjoyed talking about it at length. They were the first people I thought of today to do some new work for me.Unfortunately when I called to have some shocks replaced which I had ordered they let me know that they would not be willing to do the work because they didnt get to order the parts for me. They use the veil of not being able to give a parts guarantee for the reason not to do the work.If you cant tell, Im extremely meticulous when it comes to my car. It is an overland-built 100 series LX/LC with a ton of performance upgrades. The shocks I ordered were specific replacement parts that come with their own warranty or guarantee.I now know that this shop is only worried about making short-term money and not retaining good long-term clients. The parts guarantee ensures they can charge you whatever markup they would like on the parts they order for your car. In my eyes this a way of taking advantage of their customers.Sorry to say it, but today they lost what could have been a very good long-term client. I love my car and will pay anything for good honest work which I thought I had seen here, but unfortunately that inst the case.
