Urban Market is ideally located on Nostrand Avenue between Prospect Place and St. Marks Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. Here you can get fresh produce, dairy products and other items at reasonable prices. Accessible via the B44 local and select buses (on New York and Nostrand Avenues respectively) and opens at 7:00 am. Visible by traffic.
The deli sucks, the food looks old and undesirable and when food looks undesirable it belongs in the garbage, not sure if they understand that, the supermarket is good but they need desperately to understand that the DELI needs to be revamped but other than that i enjoy shopping there, the manager is so very helpful and handsome which i definitely appreciated
I went to this key foods to buy food with a key food’s gift card and the card kept showing an error when scanned. I recommend to them to enter the card information manually and the system asked for an expiration date. The card doesn’t have one on it.Someone was “helping” but didn’t know how to solve it. That is ok but the person started to walk away and singled to the cashier to ring up another customer on line but didn’t even tell me anything. That was rude. I was a body and left in limbo. At least let me know if I can follow up. This made me feel like I was not valued as a customer. The person that I was interacting with seemed to be a supervisor or manager. He was rude at the end when saying idk, I can’t do anything for you, call the person that gave you the card, just kept walking away from the conversation. I asked for the customer service number and They couldn’t give me the correct one. I asked for his name and he didn’t want to give it to me. I didn’t feel like a valued customer. The cashier called the person that was “helping me” papa, she was nice and tried her best. All I ask is if the person helping me (not the cashier) could have been more communicative with me, thought of other ideas to try (test the card on another machine, enter the card information manually instead of me recommending it), be more pleasant with their tone/eye contact/body language, guide me to customer service and DONT walk away from the customer. From my perception the staff seems unhappy, not only the person who was “helping” me but also some of the other cashiers, and people stocking the shelves.
The store is actually one of the more decent Key Foods that I have been to. Lets be really honest-that isnt saying very much as most Key Foods are pretty bad.Good in the store:-Its cleaner than most Key Foods-Self check out so you dont have to deal with their lazy unfriendly employees.-The meat department looks decent-even though I dont eat meat.-They have your very very basic grocery needs...very...basic.-Prices are decent.Issues with the store:-VERY VERY small aisles especially by the produce and forget about the employees that work there moving out of the way or being even remotely friendly.-The bags for the produce are so ungodly high I can barely reach them. I am 54 and I literally am on my tip toes in order to get a stupid bag to put my produce in.-The produce is disgusting-mushy and rotting-you have to dig for anything acceptable. Going to whole foods is worth not touching the yucky produce.-Rude and inconsiderate employees.I come here for very basic needs and go to Whole Foods for better produce and healthier options.
Ive lived in my neighborhood for 19 years, where Ive shopped in this store which is finally undergoing a constructive transformation. The store has always been clean for the most part and well stocked. I love the new look of the supermarket and the management has never changed and their doing a great job! They could do better with their meat dept. Theres always a a weird odor coming from there even in the new design...
For a densely populated area of the City, this super market shines. Abundant fresh produce, fresh meats and chicken, wide variety of cheeses. Theres no bakery so the bread choices are slim. Maybe the most important thing is that this store functions more like a large grocery store than a neighborhood store. All kinds of cleaning products and household goods are happily afforded along with canned and boxed foods that suit the needs of customers. I bought an excellent pumpernickel bread loaf to make roasted turkey sandwiches and a salad mix to have alongside. Try this place if you want to cook or even if you dont..it wont disappoint.
This Key Food is one of the cleanest and they have good sales & a Very Good variety of Baby food for my 7 month old baby, much more than the Met with baby food on sale as well. The only thing I dont like is you have to buy the 2 for whatever sale in order to get the marked down price. Otherwise this is where I will be getting my babys food :)
Good morning, before the renovations &after there were these huge rats running around inside the supermarket even while you were shopping ....still have them. neighbor after all the renovation, the prices are fare but becareful with the poultry dept it smells funny and I eventually caught food poisoning and there social skills are not very nice 👍
Well lit (you may need sunglasses) but has that barren Nobodys home. feel to it. Ive never seen more than 7 people in here at one time since 2003. 😆 Like a scene from a Stephen King movie. Prices are moderate but ticking up; you can tell theyve morphed to cater to the new insurgent population. 😕
You have to consider the area that this place is located in...oh...and the area really sucks. Its convenient for snacks but thats about it. It also smells horrific in there, like a bunch of stray cats took a piss in there and no one cleaned it. Ever. And Ive been in there more than enough times to know that it smells like piss in there every single day.
Because this is my neighborhood supermarket, I keep trying to give this place chance. However, Im officially done!I stopped buying meat from this key food years ago, but now I cant even pick up a quick healthy snack!I bought rancid grapes from here and when I got home, noticed that there was a second label placed on top of an older label.... so sad. Theyve renovated the store but the owners are the same disrespectful managers of the past 20 years...
The supermarket is renovating....It is dusty inside.....I noticed a lot of merchandise with dust all over it...!! I feel bad for the employees who have to endure this havocAll day...Customers of course also.....They are Pricey, as well....but they are well stocked....
So the lines will be long no matter what. And its rare that additional lanes are opened. Lines will eventually wrap into aisles and other items.I had originally come in here as staple items are going to be less expensive but even this seems to be less likely.Sadly, with all that I dont know if this gives me a reason to come in here. Ill probably still check them out- but only when I can spare a lot of time.
This place is where I normally get my groceries, small selection but it works. Although minus one star for an odd exchange at the cash register, I brought my own bags so the store doesnt have to use up more plastic bags, but I cant tell if it was that or if its because I look Asian but no one helped me. The bagger and cashier helped the person before me and the person after me, but did not help me. Im Asian not invisible...
A strange smell that you could only smell from the meat section a few years ago has now taken over the whole store. A very unpleasant and possibly unhealthy smell accompanies you as you buy old vegtables and dusty cans and bottles. There are other places worth doing your shopping not far from here.
Just because you put lipstick on a pig doesnt make it better. This supermarket is still selling bad meat. Gentrification forced them to beautify the store but the same nonsense is going on. I took back spoiled meat recently and no one cared nor apologized. I stick to the basics with this place and do my real food shopping else where
Ok for the basics.I have learned the hard and painful way ( it took two seperate instances to learn this) not to buy raw meats from this location. I was also over charged last visit. We bought two avocados but were charged for 9!!! Stupidly I did not look at the receipt until I got home.
The selling bread that will expire in 2 weeks basically because they know they can pull the no return policy and also price gouging On their products it just a shame I shop in this store for over 9year plus and now the changing price and making people uncomfortable to shop from them.
Dirty dirty Ive seen Sunday morning at 8:30 am 2times Rats running around wear the fruits are n thy bite the bg.of rice..I told the owner he says O thy come from the street mean while they cleaning up the rat shist..I didnt call health department because I thought the owner would keep his word!!- take care of it but I was wrong.

2022-03-23Idk what’s going on but I will no longer purchase my salmon (or any other meat) from there. I just purchased today to cook (I clean my meats very well) and it smells terrible, even after seasoning and cooking. This isn’t the first time I’ve purchased meat from here that is seemingly bad or off. It’s such a hit or miss, it’s sad. And the “butcher” area is almost always vacant. Other than that, everything else is fine.

2022-02-08Although prices have gone up, this market has better deals on some items than at food town.

2021-08-25Fresh meats, fruits and vegetables. Seems very clean. I visited the deli section on 3 separate occasions, but did not purchase anything because the workers either did not have on face masks or wore them under their noses or under their chins. All of the other workers I saw throughout the store wore masks and had them on properly.

2021-09-04Big improvement from what it use to be but still has a long way to go. They need a better bakery with more fresh baked goods. Artisans breads etc. It would be nice if the meat department did customer cuts by request.

2021-07-30Urban Market is always well stocked and well kept. I was able to buy a Chocolate Eclair Pie for only .50 cents and 2 Romaine Lettuce for only $7.00. They always have great deals. The store is never crowded and open up early at 7:00am.
