US Social Security Administration in other cities:
I called the office several times just to ask a simple question and it kept hanging up on me. Finally after the fifth time, the call went through and the phone rang for 45 minutes and no one picked up. Worst service ever. Why is there even a phone number to call if no one will answer or pick up?
Wish i could give no stars, was approved for full benifits in july 2021, it is now sept and SSA still will not release my back pay. I have contacted this office any times and they are rude and talk to you in this tone like How dare you question us. Meanwhile i have become homeless and lost everything because they will not release my 2 years worth of back pay
Had to go down to the Exchange Street office three times in the last month, and each time (once in the middle of the work day and twice near the end) the place was nearly empty, with virtually no wait time. The staff was courteous and friendly, and seemed eager to bend over backwards to be helpful.God knows what kind of pressure the current federal government (in its eagerness to destroy the safety net and make it as hard as possible for people in need to make use of it) is imposing on the actual folks in the trenches--the ones who do the work, as opposed to the bureaucrats--but my experience of the front-line troops is that they remain committed to giving good service. Bravo!!
I applied for myself and my two children to get our social security cards in September. I have received mine but still to this very day have yet to receive my childrens cards. One of which belongs to my sixteen years old son who is trying to get a job. He has recently received a job opportunity but due youre neglect of people who do show up to work at your office not doing their job my son is going to loose out on his opportunity. I will be calling to make an appointment to come to the office because I will not be doing the same paper work and sending documents again when I should have had my cards for my children over two months ago.
I recently was married and went to the Buffalo office to change my name on my social security card. I arrived 40 minutes before opening time and was able to get a parking spot easily. There were already 20 to 30 people in front of me in line. When they opened I got in to get a number easily. I only waited 5 minutes for my number to be called and was at the window for only 5 minutes. I had all of my documents with me and filled out correctly. I thought this was a painless trip until I received my new card in the mail... The state worker that processed my name change misspelled my name! Now, I hopefully do not need to make the 45 minute drive back to the office to wait in line to get in for up to 50 minutes for their mistake.
Very rude staff; today I visited here and met an agent under token# A105. Agent provided wrong information. I asked her to update my information as I became a US citizen few months back and showed my passport, however she insisted I bring citizenship certificate and passport is not acceptable as a proof, whereas per SS website either doc is acceptable. I will strongly recommend that trained staff should be deputed to save public time and providing accurate information.
You will have good days here get important paper work done with an easy flow. Then sometimes you go to this place and get a already came to work anger female worker and she makes the process so difficult that you want to say if you dont like your job then quite . Always be prepare and have your patience set on over drive youll need it. ButIf you have a appointment it makes it better.
Came on a Tuesday around 10am. Not bad. I am from Metro NYC and believe me it gets hectic but this office is ok. There is parking and I waited for 30 minutes with my infant to see someone at the front window. Now if you have an appointment or need to see a worker (not the ones at the window) you need to be one of the first ones on line when they open. They tell you to come for your appt but if you arent one of the first in line you will be waiting for hours and may not even see anyone. They dont tell you but they have a cut off on how many people they can see regarding appts. This depends on how many staff they have available and how long it will take for the staff to handle the needs of the appointee. If staff gets done fast with appt cases they can bring in someone who just needs to see someone in the back. But if they dont you will wait a long time. I found this info out back in Brooklyn and it rings true in each SSA office.
Posting under a pseudonym for security. I was required to mail my marriage certificate- the actual certificate that costs $40 to replace if something happens to it- to update my name after marriage. I paid for a big envelope to send it to them without folding it. They sent it back to me FOLDED in a regular envelope. Seriously? How cheap and inconsiderate are you people? You couldnt use a bigger envelope to protect somebodys precious document? I would fight them to pay for a replacement but its the government, they wont care.
Some of the Worst representatives on earth!! When calling them they will lie and give u false information then when you call back claim that they never talk 2 you. I let them know i recorded the whole conversations. All i get is more lies. Go so far as telling me there is no supervisor to help then they hang up. New staff needed immediately. Now i have to get a lawyer.
Called to odtain a copy of my social security card. The operater was no help what so ever. Didnt seem like they were willing to even help me or answer any questions. Then after giving me a small amount of information they just hung up the phone. Not professional at all!
Probably the most disgusting, filthy office Ive ever been in. The smell in there is revolting and its in a state of disrepair. Cant comment on the staff because we ended up having to leave before we got called up, but the system is weird, the employees are behind solid glass and speak to you over a mic/speaker so everyone in the entire disgusting room hears your business. You would think this government office is in some third world country by the looks and smell of it.
The security guard yelled HEY BLONDIE at me and berated me loudly in front of everyone for no reason. I wasnt causing any problems, I was just waiting there with my sleeping infant trying to get her card replaced. The woman at the window talked down to me because I didnt have health insurance yet (I had JUST gotten out of the Army that week and was in the process of finding new civilian coverage)Absolutely miserable place. I had just moved to Buffalo and this was not a warm welcome to the city.

2022-03-313/31/22 - Update - Finally got through to a phone officer who was very nice/pleasant. Got me in one week from today. Just happy to finally have an appointment.3/24/22 - Update - I went to the office (without an appointment) and got rudely turned away. Three other people were also there who got turned away. All the security guard told us was if you are not on the list, you cannot come in. When we inquired about no one answering the phone line, all I was told was keep trying. Unbelievable how garbage our basic government services are. Word on the street is open walk-ins will be welcome from April onwards so keep an eye out on the SSA website. No one answers the phone to make an appointment. Our son was born abroad and still does not have a SSN because of the appointment only policy. This is driving my tax return through the roof as I am not able to add him as a dependent on my return without a SSN.

2022-05-31I get it that the print the great resignation and their short on staff. Then invest your money in a hackathon and get some high schoolers to build your website where you can at least schedule your own appointments. This is beyond pitiful

2022-02-10I just got off of the phone after a 50 minute wait. Nobody picked up. They said it could be as LONG as a 15 minute wait. I need a simple question answered! Where is the service that we should be getting? This is ridiculous! I’m sick of the excuses. Start serving us people as you are suppose to be doing.

2022-01-27Website explains that COVID is still keeping the SSA closed to in-person appointments so I phoned to double check my documentation before mailing anything.I was surprised that my call was answered in about 15 minutes, and the man I spoke with was pleasant and incredibly helpful.I might revise this review if things go pear shaped, but so far, so good 👍🏽

2020-09-20It was my first visit to Buffalo SSN office. During this covid time, there was no one visiting the office. I had an appointment scheduled in advance. MR ED the security guard welcomed me into the office. While my work in progress I had a chance to to talk to him. He is such a nice person. I wish I could take a picture with him but due to restrictions I couldn’t. But I can see your smile Mr Ed. God bless U.Thank you.
