This spacious bar hosts a huge menu of craft beers that you might find hard to find elsewhere. From a great selection of local New York beers to a respectable collection of European brews, there’s a ton to choose from here. There are something like 40 beers on tap. The space is very open feeling in summer when the doors and windows are opened. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the beer and can help with recommendations. If you’re looking for some unique and delicious brews in the city, this is the perfect stop.
SOLID bar in the heart of hells kitchen:Beer: excellent selection of drafts and bottles/cans with something to appeal to even the pickiest of beer-drinkers. Good labels and simple explanations available on menu. Staff know their stuff, too.Food: we came post-dinner, post-show, so we just wanted to nibble on something. We went for the nachos (beef): melted cheese, ground beef, onion, cilantro, and jalapeno all melted to create an excellent flavor.Atmosphere: loud and energetic but not crazy. We got here around 10 on a Friday night and it was just perfect. Bathroom (womens) was fine to use. Servers were fun, cheerful, and knowledgeable!
Great beer selection and service! Not sure why it’s called Valhalla though as other than couple of cool decor items there didn’t seem to be anything very viking about the place in either food, music, or drinks (aside from offering two meads on tap!). What you should not miss are the fries!!!! They say they are the best in NY on the menu and I might concur! Perfectly crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside with just the right amount of salt. Fried pickles were really good too and the sliders were well-seasoned. Recommended! (And seriously! Order the fries!!)
Great Bar!! The atmosphere is really good and the staff are excellent. So many beers to choose from, both international and local. I visited in the evening and the NY yankees were screened live. Good music, not too loud so as to drown out conversation. Highly recommended. Welcome to Valhalla!!
I like the beer and food but very pricey. I ordered a dozen wings and 3 beers which cost around $60 with tip. The hickory smoked wings are smokey and covered in good tasting bbq sauce. We tried different beer we never tasted before and didnt like our choices but thats on us though. Im sure if we go enough times, well land on some new favorites.
Diverse, high quality beer selection (including sours, which are nearly impossible to find in most bars), some of the best bar food Ive ever had in NYC or elsewhere, and great service (quick, correct). Valhalla remains one of my favorite bars in NYC.I branched out and had a cocktail at Valhalla for the first time since I discovered the place 4 years ago - The Nordic Mule, with aqvavit (another first) - and it was unbelievably refreshing, especially on a hot day accompanied by classic NYC humidity.
Amazing atmosphere and friendly staff! I absolutely fell in love with this place and would go back every time Im in New York. They have a great selection of beers from other countries as well as in the states. Its a wonderful spot to stop, rest your feet, and have a nice drink after walking around all day! Definitely check it out! :)
My new favorite bar in the neighborhood. A nice variety of drinks and an excellent atmosphere. Full of people there to have a good time with friends. The service was prompt too, and the bratwurst wasnt bad either. They didnt try and get too fancy with their sauerkraut either, which I appreciate.
A great beer selection doesnt have to include a $8 Naragansset pint. Long story short, if youre into 5 great beers on a random 40 beer list of drafts where every single for beer cost $8-9 minimum, this is your new home. Basket of fries are huge. Staff is nice and on point. Would go again. But not sober.
What a range of beers, from light to dark and all varieties in between. Great happy hour and special deals. We didnt try the food but it looked good and plates were cleared by the diners at the time if our visit. The bartender allowed us to sample all and offered suggestions depending on taste. We found this bar by chance and, sadly with one day left in NYC may only get to visit once. The beers we did try were all well kept and fresh. If you visit New York get off the tourist trail and enjoy Valhalla
Great beer selection with good bar food. Sometimes it can be a little bridge and tunnel especially during the week. There are other more low key spots that I prefer in the neighborhood, but their beer selection is hard to beat. Theres only one other bar in the neighborhood that rivals their beer selection that has much better food.
I like Imperial porters and stouts they had none. They only let you taste 2 beers. Not much of a food menu. The place is small, so they put reservation signs on the tables, to make sure the tables are full. I settled for an Einstock porter and wings. Almost all there beers are $9 for different sizes. Wings were decent.
Ive been here on a few occasions but the last really topped it off. Great beer selection for a place of its size. Probably the best bar in the neighborhood. They recently started serving food in their spot, and it does not disappoint. So, grab a seat at the benches in the back corner with some friends, order up some grub and lose your mind trying to decide what you want to drink. You wont regret going here.
Not a bad place to chill with buddies on game day. They have cheap beer and the atmosphere is laid back a little too laid back perhaps--there were several infants at the bar! No idea if its because it was the day they had the NYC marathon or what, but infants and underage looking patrons were there. The crowd was a bit cliquey. We had a small group and we kept it to ourselves. Its a mixed of very young barely legal people to the older buttoned down collared shirt guys who sat near the end of the bar. Im neither impressed or unimpressed by the experience. Although, Im not a beer person. Most the beer they had were all very foreign to me. I didnt know any that was available. Oh and they also didnt have wine. Seriously. Just come here and eat bar food and drink beer.
Stopped by Valhalla on Friday night. We liked the advertised 48 tap beer selection. Their beer selection was indeed good. They also do flights although it is not mentioned in a menu. Food was not good. Would not recommend to order anything there. Grab a bite somewhere else (this is Hells kitchen for Good sake!), and stop by Valhalla for great beer
I stopped into Valhalla because it was near the hotel and I wanted to see the beer selections. They offer a fairly robust number of craft brews on tap and more in bottles. I had two beers from the tap and both were good and fresh. Also had the sliders with fries and they were good too. Bartender was friendly and attentive. It was early afternoon, so Im not sure that nice service is still available when the crowd rolls in.
Came here with a few coworkers for a happy hour a few weeks ago, they have a great selection of beers that really is wonderful especially that they have NON-Alcoholic options for those of us who choose not to drink. We are a diverse group of people and this place was a great hit for us!It gets a little crowded around 6:30/7:00 PM and by the time 9 PM hits it starts to clear up a bit. If you are not a big fan of noise it is best to be in and out of there by 7 PM as thats when the crowd is the biggest.I have not tried any of their bar bites as I am not big on those but it seems as though those who did order them really enjoyed it. If you want a good selection of diverse beers and wines this place will not disappoint and the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back.
Cannot fault this bar. It serves craft beers from around the world. The atmosphere was electric and there was a large crowd of people. Service was excellent with the waitress moving us to a better table when it became available. We had two beera at not a bad price. We also had a taster of New York beers for $20 which was excellent. The food we had was really tasty (the grande nachos). An overall great experience.
Awesome beer selection, and the staff is the best. Every bartender Ive ever spoken to is super helpful in terms of helping you discover new beers youd enjoy or explaining what makes a certain type of beer. Lots of craft beer bars alienate anyone who isnt a total beer snob, but the folks here make anyone from a non-beer drinker to a beer geek feel comfortable and well-taken care of. This place is my favorite beer bar in NYC, and the staff is a huge part of that.
For this side of New York ( Hells Kitchen), it is probably the best beer house in the world...... honestly the range of craft beers is amazing. Staff are super nice, the IPA selection is to die for. Just dont hope for a blue ribbon here. Looks out for the specials. Was not a wrong steer.
Went there on 11/29/17 to get some late evening drinks with my friend. Good selection of beers and nice decorations overall. Bartenders were nice and helpful. The waiter girl ruined the whole experience for us though with her ridiculous excuses to keep the front door open despite our complaints that it was less than 40 degrees outside. According to her they cannot control the heat at all so she has to keep the front door open to cool the back of the bar down. Quite hard to believe, it looked more like she just hated her job and wanted patrons to leave, at least in the front of the bar, so she wouldnt have to walk that much around.
Pretty cool bar with a lot of beer and cider options! More of a dive bar feel, I only remember one TV so if youre looking to watch a game of any sort, youre probably better off going elsewhere. Went here with three friends with very different tastes in beer and everyone was able to find something they really liked. I love cider, and although a couple of the ones available were a bit too far on the sweet side, I still appreciated their dedication to having multiple options and flavors, like pineapple, passion fruit, and pear, which you dont commonly see elsewhere.Food wise: ordered a Bavarian pretzel to snack on, and while smaller than Id have liked, it came hot and tasted pretty good. Bf ordered beef sliders which came with fries, and while I cant speak to the sliders, I loved the fries. Handcut, well-seasoned, and most importantly IMHO well-fried. No soggy limp or pale taters here!Service: absolutely awesome! The bar was pretty active the entire 3 hr span we were there (10:30p-1:30ish), but we never felt like we were waiting or wanting for attention. Glasses were cleared pretty quickly, which helped bc there were four of us at a small tall bar table.Overall, pretty great place for late night beers with friends!
I wandered into this cozy little pub with a guy I was interested in, and it turned out to be the best idea ever! After trying a few bars that were closing, we were relieved that it was open late and still had a decent crowd! The bartender greeted us quickly with a smile and menus, he answered my questions patiently, and offered really great hospitality.I made eye contact with a woman at the bar who began to chit chat! It was so cute, and I was really pleased to have stumbled upon such a friendly place. There were a couple other dates, a large party, I didnt notice any singles, but Id definitely feel comfortable visiting again by myself. Feels a little dive-y, but in the best possible way... Like you can justify paying the cost of the signature drinks because theyre strong and delicious. I had the signature Valhalla- a beer cocktail that tastes bright and mildly citrus-y, like summer! and a champagne cocktail, which I preferred... Unfortunately, I do not remember the name because it was LIT! 😂We made out like kids and didnt feel awkward. The bathrooms were clean. Our tab was reasonable. Id say thats a winner!
Really great service at one of the tables: I almost cringe bringing in family from California to the city, because they are used to super friendly people out in Cali. But our waiter was awesome--so chill and happy to answer questions about the beers and food options. Also sort of joked around and had a few laughs. One of the better servers Ive ever had in a NYC pub.. thanks!
It has an okay alcohol selection, including several gluten-free items, but absolutely no food items on the menu that are gluten-free. When a place cant even be bothered enough with food hygiene to prepare gluten-free items like French fries (potatoes are gluten-free) separately from the fried items that contain gluten (anything beer-battered or breaded), it raises questions about the overall level of concern the establishment has regarding food safety their customers comfort.
This is a great bar for craft beer and cocktails! We were here for a coworkers farewell party on a week night and it was jam packed. The bar isnt too big but we managed to find a table for a group. It is quite popular because it is not touristy nor overpriced. It is a decent neighborhood bar with great food options such as artichoke dips and wings. If you like craft beer, this bar has some good selections to offer.
Great local bar with huge selection of beers. Basic decor but warm and welcoming with good vibe. Music is not loud and lights are not low, so conversation and vision are not impaired, which can be a welcome change from the normal trendy murky lighting and booming music. A decent size but not huge and can get pretty busy, but not crazily so.
Beer selection is great. Food and menu design is criminal. Served me 4 overcooked chicken tenders with plastic silverware on the side for 8 bucks. Girlfriend got bratwurst served on a store bought hot dog roll with fries that seemed to hot to be deep fried or baked or maybe a combo of the 2. Never complain about food being to hot unless its microwave hot.
Really good bar that isnt located too far from the dregs of the Time Square area, where every bar is overly touristy and overpriced. Seemed to be a lot of locals, which is always a good sign.Varied and unique beer selection, great wings, and lots of TVs if you want to watch the game.
This isn’t the OFFICIAL Minnesota bar in Manhattan, but it boasts a ridiculously long tap list and has lots of wooden fixtures / features that will make you guess you are in lake country were it not for the towering buildings of Midtown right outside. Great selection, space, and vibe.
I recently found this bar and since discovering it have been back a couple of times. They have an excellent beer selection with many many great beers on tap, all of which are pretty reasonably priced. Not as reasonably priced as Pony Bar where everything is just $5, but for the most part you can get a really excellent beer for less than $10.... Ive clearly lived in New York City for too long where getting a good beer for less than $10 sounds like a good deal....The place generally isnt too crowded and even when it is pretty packed it doesnt feel that cramped, especially when they open the windows up, and doesnt really get too uncomfortable. There is a decent amount of seating available so its likely youll be able to find a place. The bar tenders are all very nice, even when its busy, which I think is really important. Some of these NYC bartenders think that since theyre pouring beer from a tap theyre Gods gift to earth. Havent had that experience at Valhalla (yet) and that alone is enough to justify the 4 stars in my opinion.
Loved it here. As a tourist, it was a fun place to have some beer from an amazing draft list and watch the city go by. Food choices are limited, but you dont come here for a meal. Service was outstanding. Locals packed this place full the Friday we were there, so it must be a favorite. Highly recommended. Expensive... But everything g in the city is!
Came here the other night during the week—err, early morning around 2:30 AM after work—and had fantastic service from a very friendly bartender who unfortunately only works 2 nights a week. I say unfortunately, because despite the good food and HUGE selection of beers from a variety of international breweries ON DRAFT (I counted approx 42), I came back the following Saturday afternoon and had a rather irksome & repellent experience. First, with the property at least 50% full at around 3:30pm, there was only one bartender tending the guests while another looked on from the far end of the bar chit-chatting with a customer for a lengthy period of time, while I—a rather patient individual with restaurant & service experience—waited over 10 mins to be greeted. Then, once I was able to order my beverage, it took another 5-7 mins to be served whilst the bartender struggled to keep up with guests’ myriad requests. Second bartender? Still chitchatting while also having made eye contact with me several times. It wasn’t until a 3rd bartender, a very polite and efficient blonde hair woman, began her shift that the chatty guy didn’t start pitching in his fair share.Any-who, once my food order was taken, it came out pretty fast (within 10 mins), and if it’s anything like the rest of their menu, then this place is definitely worth visiting for their food as well! Ultimately, I believe this was an isolated experience, as it was pretty clear the first bartender was carrying the entire weight of the bar until the 3rd bartender began her shift at 4pm. At 4:30 pm, the restaurant was 90% full, and I cannot possibly overstate how awesome their beer selection is!!! Perhaps management should ensure there is always at least 3 bartenders available for Saturday afternoons in the summertime, even when accounting for the various employee scheduling conflicts (last minute, including) typical of the service industry.Overall, the atmosphere is quite awesome and unique; the 40-some beer taps, an impressive sight. Taking into consideration my more pleasant experience earlier in the week—even at a closing hour—I’d say that this place is worth visiting for both locals and vacationers alike!
They get 2 stars because they had $5 pints... that were warm. We got $13 nachos and it had clearly microwaved chicken and that 711 cheese goop... it was barely edible except for the fact iy was inexorably expensive and so mine as well. I would not visit again except for a $5 pint (even the waiter looked puzzled when we asked what was good on the menu Its just cheap bar food was the answer.)
The bar itself is in such a good location because the front of it receives so much natural lighting. The entire atmosphere feels so homey and the service was pretty quick. And what a selection for beer! Sure I didnt enjoy the one I chose, but the list is SO huge. And there was this Viking Blod mead that I tried that was so smooth. My God. Plus, the wings were fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience over here. It was truly Valhalla.
This place always surprises me. Ive come across this place a few times accidentally with friends when trying to find any old place to grab a drink. Really good selection of beers and really tasty bar snacks. I recommend the spinach artichoke dip. Comes served warm with crispy, salty home made chips!
I LOVE that this has an indoor beer garden feel with about 150 beers on tap. OK, that may be an exaggeration, but they have so many different beers, its terrific. No food is served, so youll have to order from one of the local places. I recommend pizza, but who doesnt love beer and pizza?
More than 40 different beers on tap - isnt that enough? No its not: I was there on halloween, and the owner greeted kids with sweets and open heart. He is all what you want from your local Beer Master: knowledgeable, kind, funny, but also a bit gruff -- definitely what adds value to your beer. At Valhalla youll find great local beers that are rarely distributed in NYC. One of my favorite is the Empire Cream Ale, a Nitro Ale that is smooth and thick like a rice pudding. A nice one! I wasnt too impressed by their chicken wings, while their bratwurst were excellent. It is almost always crowded; if you go there to watch some odd sport game (like, you know, rugby) you might be able to convince the guys to turn it on for you!
This restaurant has been serving the neighborhood for over a decade - and was recently remodeled, a gut renovation in February. The new look is clean and modern, wood floors, and uncluttered walls, with the same fresh fish, solid service and good value that has made it a neighborhood standard, which is why I eat there nearly once a week.
I am in love with this store. As soon as you walk in you know youve stumbled upon a gem in the neighborhood. The guys that work behind the counter are so nice and helpful. They give you samples too which doesnt hurt. Their homemade soppressata is some of the best Ive had in a long while. Delicious sandwiches, and a great selection of Italian products and fresh pastas. A+ all around.
Valhalla is a great local. Well rounded customers who range in age and interest. With two TVs you can either watch a game, or socialize with friends. The beer selection cant be beat in the HK neighborhood. Try the Fried Pickles- yum!Only thing holding Valhalla back from 5 stars is price.
Nice place, felt right at home. Ok, yes it was busy on a Sunday night, looked like date night, couples were everywhere. To prove my point playing in the pub is Forigner, I want to know what love is.... Excellent beer selection with a handful of Belgiums on tap. One of the few places in NYC that seemed laid back. Well recommended. If you like this place consider Valhalla on the Rice campus in Houston.... enjoy!
Great beer list that as with most of Manhattan, what should be good is destroyed by outrageous noise levels. Why do New Yorkers like yelling at each other and destroying their hearing? My ios NIOSH app is showing peak of 115db. Ive been here 10 minutes and it says Im already at 7% of max dose to avoid hearing damage.Staff will be getting permanent damage, which should be violation of their workers rights.

2018-08-16This was the 3rd bar to our NYC bar hop experience and by far our favourite place of the evening! It was a beer lovers dream with endless tap options (I think they told me 41 options?) the bartender was very attentive and helped me pick the perfect lager which enjoyed 2 of.We learned about the history of Hell’s Kitchen from our awesome server and bought a super cool T-Shirt before being on our way!I highly recommend this place!!

2022-05-24Always wanted to go there, finally did with good expectation , turned out to be total disaster. Extremely under staffed. Bartender was good..he did what he could do, but they were it was run...God awfull. Not going back there again. I know there is a sign for being under staffed, but I always see this place busy. So why cant you guys keep employee there ?
