Ice cream was really good. they greeted us as soon as we came in, couldn’t sample the vegan ice cream but it was good.

Not as good as it was when I last visited 2 years ago. The ice cream was grainy both for myself and my husband. (We chose different flavors.) It was as if the temperature control had gone bad. When we were last here we had absolutely loved it. My husband saw that it wasnt so very clean. And, it had a B from NYC in the window.

Door dash to the rescue for a late sweets craving. Flavors were on point. Vegan salted caramel was delicious wouldnt have known the difference! Got a bit carry away with my order but all worth it!

They have one of my favorite ice cream flavors of all time- earl grey tea. It is so decadent and rich and creamy and I have not been able to find something similar anywhere else. Their cookies and cream is also out of this world! I know Van Leeuwens is known for their vegan options, but I go just for their full on dairy choices because the flavors are so good..!
East village has a lot of hidden gems and they can completely surprise you some days. Van Leeuwen is one of them. Their ice creams were simple, basic and flavorful. The staff was kind enough to let me try most of their flavors. I loved the Honey dew ice cream. It was the best I have had at their store. I would strongly suggest paying them a visit to satisfy your sweet tooth.
The seasonal vegan cinnamon churro = crack! In only the best way of course 😋🍨. Took off a star because the flavors aren’t actually labeled, there is only a list. Essentially you are just getting a scoop of their ice cream that is available in many grocery stores now with no frills. Would be nice to see a little something extra in the specialty shop ✌️
The only employee there was taking a break with a friend in the front eating, thought employee was in the back. No masks, no gloves, she kept wiping her nose on the back of her hand before serving ice cream. Milkshake was way too liquidy.
A few standard flavors and several unusual ones. I had a double scoop -- Marionberry Cheesecake and Earl Grey Tea. All very good.

This place stays decently busy right up until closing on Sunday! And you might find only one poor guy working. But the wait is worth it!! He was super nice about recommendations and samples which I was grateful for considering I’d never eaten here before.I got three scoops - Mocha Cookie (perfect sweetened coffee flavor and nice cookie texture), chocolate Brownie (so good!!) and Peanut Butter Chocolate (vegan and surprisingly awesome!).Yes, I will totally visit this place (and their other locations) again!!
I went there last week I have eaten dairy ice cream and my kids and because it was so good we are thinking of changing to vegan ice cream. The service was great.
If you are into experimental flavors or have the ability to trust the process, this place is for you. It has a nice clean, all white ambiance if you want to sit down and chat. I will be honest, there isnt much sitting chair/tables but who cares.You can also take home some pints of ice cream if youd like. I wasnt too sure about this place but its definitely have some great ice cream. I cant wait to try some more flavors!
Honeycomb ice cream came too soft and loose, it was a bad experience not worth the money. I even asked if the freezer is broken lol, the thing is bad. Will Never go again

Big fan of Van Leeuwen! Ive been wanting to check this place out for a while and finally was able to make it out to this branch. I love that they offer lots of creative flavors, including super delicious vegan options (so if youre a vegan, you are definitely NOT missing out!). I tried the Black Sesame Ash Chocolate Cake and I must say, it was amazing! After you get over the fact that both your tongue and teeth may appear black/ashy, the flavor is delicious! The black sesame and chocolate cake chunks really work well together, but overall its very rich, so watch out if youre craving something lighter. I will for sure be visiting Van Leeuwen again - its my new go-to ice cream shop!
I love Can Leeuwen Ice Cream! The vegan ice creams are the best, I generally dont eat sweets but I have a daily visit when I am in NYC. I dont know how they make their ice creams so delicious and creamy!!
Came on a Sunday.. only 7 customer in store and it took my friend more than 20 minutes in line to be serviced.. shocking to me how this shop survives NYC’s market and it shouldn’t
Ice cream was yummy. I had the cookies and cream. My mom had the wedding cake ice cream. Both were good. They should think about adding pralines and cream to the menu.

Amazing friendly service from a cool team more than happy to help with the tortuous decision of what flavour to commit to! Warm digs with plenty of seating and space to chill; perfect for that late night ice cream and coffee (they make a sick espresso!) fix.Strongly recommend the vegan cookie crumble strawberry jam 😋😋
I love Van Leeuwen! This is one of my top favorite ice cream shops. They offer both traditional and vegan ice cream choices. The flavors I recommend are the earl grey and honeycomb scoops, both very rich in flavor. Prices are 1 scoop for $5.50, 2 scoops for $7.50, and 3 scoops for $9.50. With tax, it comes out to be a pricey dessert, but well worth it imo 👌 Credit cards only!This location is a great location to sit with a group of friends, enjoy complimentary water, and savor the sweet sweet ice cream cones. However, no restroom is provided. The interior is very happy and bright with a great music playlist - just the way I like it!
The ice cream at this place is pretty good. It was about 30 minutes before they closed on a Thursday night and there was no line. My only reason for 4 stars is that about six of the flavors were sold out so I had to pick a different flavor than what I originally wanted. No cash at this place, only cards.
Really really addictingly good. I know theyre stocked in whole foods, but going into the store is such an experience! They have the latest flavours, samples, nice staff who really know how to handle first timers. And the ice cream is ahead of the game. Servings are huge too. Nothing to complain about.

Unfortunately they dont have vegan vanilla for the root beer float, and the other flavors I tried, while having good consistency for being dairy-free, werent all that great. Fabulous service though!
Expensive but INCREDIBLY good. Vegan, gluten-free, and regular flavors. I really liked that they give samples with metal spoons instead of disposable utensils. The girl who helped me was really nice and let me try probably 10 flavors, relatively large samples too. They dont take cash except for tips.
I had the most wonderful time at Van Leeuwen ice cream store today. I had the best time because of an employee named Charlotte. She is the sunshine in that dark, dark ice cream industry. Van Leeuwen is lucky to have Charlotte. The ice cream was good but the employee was better! Will come again!! (for Charlotte)
Great variety | Friendly Workers | Eco FriendlyThis place makes vegan looks sooo good. I love their assorted options of vegan ice cream (& non-vegan ice cream) as well as their topping. They use reusable spoons when giving samples to try out.The worker was so nice while I daydreamed of getting everthing on the menu. Its not everyday a vegan has the options to choose what they want while dining out.Also, they also have a cute water fountain by the stalls which allowed me to rinse my spoon so I can properly recycle. :)
So delicious and what a nice guy who served us tonight. We’ve been staying at the hotel across the street for a week and getting Leeuwen nightly but tonight was our best experience yet. Jimmy was awesome! Try the cookies n cream, tastes more like a chocolate cake n cream... so good! Thanks Jimmy!

Ice cream was great but both hygiene of staff (getting ice cream without gloves and taking off their hair nets in the back - presumably where food is prepared) and attentiveness (4 staff members when we came in effectively just ignored us until one gave in and said hi) were pretty poor. Probably needs management to monitor. Quirky is great, but customers bring in the money.
Great ice cream and a nice hipster vibe! Slightly expensive, but for NYC standard reasonable. I could easily imagine this place being super packed throughout the day, fortunately for me there was no one inside. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

Definitely a contender for best ice cream in the city. Even their vegan flavors are smooth and delicious (if a little nutty). Vegan marshmallows are also a major win.

I ordered the earl grey tea! And it was surprisingly good! I didn’t expect the taste to really be there but it was! Great recommendation by the server. 👍🏽 another one she recommended was the honeycomb flavor. So maybe that will be my next 😉

2022-06-19I was definitely surprised to see how many vegan flavors they had. I’ve had their prepackaged ice cream before but tend not to buy it because it’s on the pricier side. However, getting it fresh was a wholly different experience and worth the money. They have both coconut and cashew based vegan ice cream. The coconut based flavors have a strong coconut taste to them, so if you don’t love coconut I’d ask which is which. Either way, both really good. They also have dairy ice cream. There was nothing that I tried that I didn’t like. They did advice that if you have any peanut or wheat allergies there is a strong chance of cross contamination so keep that in mind. I’m allergic to peanuts and took my chances and it was fine.

2022-03-28Ice cream was amazing as always but my buddies and I were kicked out before closing time because the two gentlemen working wanted to go home early. It was freezing out so we were attempting to leave at 11 but one of the gentlemen began to rudely mop the lobby where my friends and I were having ice cream. Basically kicking us out, began arguing with us because I questioned why he was pushing us out at 10:55pm… What if someone else attempted to walk in to buy ice cream? Terrible experience, amazing ice cream. It was my friend’s first time trying the ice cream but we will not return when those two are working

2021-06-16Very tasty! I enjoyed my 1 scoop of of gin punch sorbet. It had a very nice tarty & sweetness mingled with seeds from its fruit. Its flavor reminded me a bit of the yummy natural taste of tamarind juice. I found it to be a unique and flavorful sorbet. Paid $7.48 (including tax & tip).

2018-11-15There’s too many places in New York with “sissy ice creams” where they serve you in tiny bowls and you barely get a taste, but these guys are not one of them. I’m a grown man and they loaded on the scoops. I could hardly finish two scoops.I had the Earth and strawberry cookies flavors, both vegan, and they were unique and great. I’m not vegan, and I actually dream about steak some nights, but I was surprised at how good vegan could be.Took off a star because the prices are a little on the high side, but you really do get your moneys worth.

2018-09-05Van Leeuwens Ice Cream on a hot evening is definitely a good idea. They have a wide variety of flavors and delicious vegan ice cream too. We got the triple scoop because we liked so many of their flavors. We got the Honeycomb, Peanut Butter Marshmallow Crunch, and Pistachio.

2019-05-24Hands down THE best vegan ice cream Ive had to date, you wouldnt think its vegan. Theres a wonderful selection to choose from, I had peanut butter jello and honeycomb if Im not mistaken. Service was excellent, down to earth, real friendly. Thank you Joe, lots of positive energy. Definitely be back!
