The salon is beautiful and the staff was very welcoming. I had my consulation with Natasha which was very thorough, informative, and she answered all my questions. I immediately booked my installation.....My installation was done by Chika and the experience was amazing. I am extremely happy and amazed at the results. Happy to be part of the Sister Lock family!!!!!
I haven’t even gotten my hair done yet and they get 5 stars from me. After my consultation with Tasha, I was so impressed that I booked my appointment before leaving the salon. She knew more about my hair than me. She described my hair to the Tee. I mean every single detail and characteristic. I was like “have we met before?” My appointment is tomorrow and I was a bit nervous. I called the shop and spoke to Sherlene (I hope I spelled her name right). OMG the professionalism and customer service that I received was phenomenal. They exceeded my expectations of explaining everything to me. She was so patient and answered each and everyone of my questions. I will update my review and tell you about Stacy and how awesome she is when my hair is finished. I’m super excited. THANK YOU ladies for the reassurance.
Ive been going to Vanity for over four years. Natasha established my Sisterlocks when she was the only Stylist in the salon. Now she has five or six other ladies. They are all good! I still drive two hours to get my hair done and its worth it. Their time management skills are on point from start to finish when locing my hair. I’ve received additional services (hair coloring and trim) and I’m very happy with the results. Natasha and the other locticians are very knowledgeable about the care and maintenance of your hair. My locs are healthy and lint free ( I was worried about this). Occasionally, I self retighten my locs but when I have to contact the salon to ask a question, they always respond to my phone calls and emails. I dont think this journey would’ve been the same, if I had gotten my hair done with another Consultant.
I recently had my sisterlocks installed by Natasha at Vanity Hair Studio in Brooklyn. The experience was excellent. Natasha is professional and upfront. She explains how the procedure will go and all the cost involved. Along with all her business policies and theres no bait and switch. Her studio was clean and comfortable and I especially enjoyed her one client at a time private room policy. You feel like youre receiving VIP treatment. Lastly Natasha installed my locks perfectly. I recommend her shop to anyone.
VanityHairStudio is the most professional hair salon I have been too. They are always on time, I’m never left waiting. As I was researching sisterlocks and looking for consultants, I found this gem. The owner Natasha Watterson is wonderful. She was very thorough in explaining all about sisterlocks, microlocks and locs in general. After my consultation, I was set in my decision and ready to schedule my installation.When its installation day, you feel nervous but excited about taking on this journey. Natasha reassures your nervousness and makes you feel more confident about it. Installation is a long process but you really get to know the integrity of her. After 15 hours, we were both exhausted but once I looked at her completed work my tiredness turned into pure joy. I was overcome with happiness.Im currently 18 months into my journey and I really enjoy my time with Natasha. My hair has come a long way from day 1. Her salon is a sanctuary away from the stress of life while you get your hair done. I always feel so peaceful and happy there and walking out the door. Thank you!

If you are looking for impeccable service then Vanity Hair NYC is definitely the go to place. I started locking my hair a few years ago. It took me just about the same time to find someone skilled, courteous and professional to trust my locks to. When I found Natasha after my first session I was sure my search was over. Shes amazing to say the least, very knowledgeable with excellent customer service its unrivaled. No wonder I keep coming back. The atmosphere is clean, extremely clean and she goes by appointments so its never crowded. She has overall mastered the art of her craft. My only regret I didnt find her sooner. Living and loving my locs.
I relocated to New York a couple months ago. I was lucky to find Vanity hair studio and to consult with the owner Natasha. She took time to answer my questions, assess my hair and give some very helpful tips , as the difference in weather was affecting my locs. Today I had my first retightning with Natasha. She took her time to wash and retighten my locs. She was very friendly,gentle and great to chat with. She is very professional and knowledgeable about locs , I left her salon truly happy, with tips to care for my locs, great smelling locs and an appointment for a future retightning.Thanks Natasha 😊
Where do I start with the accolades? I started going to Vanity Hair Studio three months ago when I started my sisterlocks. Let me just say that this hair salon is a gold mine! Natasha, the owner is ultra professional, meticulous, punctual and patient and is just straight-up good to her clients. All of the other lockticians and staff are pleasant and on-point. Im very particular about my hair and all of my expectations have been exceeded. In addition, the shop is immaculate and trendy.
I had my sisterlocks installed on June 8th 2018 and I have to say this is the most professional haircare experience I ever had. My youngest daughter who’s 4 years old, started her sisterlocks journey with Natasha 2 months ago. This all began when my wife and I couldn’t manage our daughter’s hair. First and foremost, I would like to give the greatest thank you to both Natasha and Vanity Hair Studio NYC for a terrific sista lock install and experience! She did such a beautiful job and has such patience, care, and concern for her customers. Not only are my grid, sections, and parts on point but the hair locks are so so so fine and precise. Natasha really took her time in making sure that my hair was properly done. No complaints, subliminal gestures, and/or other issues that would cause frustration was ever of existence. She constantly asked me was I okay and made sure I was comfortable. It was so refreshing to come to a place where both the product (sista lock install) and customer service experience was on par as well as exceeded expectations. My motto has always been if the quality of my experience exceeds expectations then price is of minimal relevance. Ive been admiring Natasha W. from Vanity Hair Studio work literally for years. I already had Microlocs at the top but I wanted to do my sides and back and I did not trust anyone but her to do them correctly. I got my locs done at the Long Island location, which is just as beautiful as the Brooklyn location. Natasha was on time and made me feel very comfortable during my install. I truly couldnt ask for anything more during my experience. She is truly the GOAT of Microlocks/Sisterlocks!!!
I had my Microlocs installed at Vanity hair studio Brooklyn a little over a year and a half ago & I’ve been hooked since then traveling from Jersey every month and a half to 2 months. I’ve had the pleasure of being serviced by Stacy since my establishment. This past Tuesday I had the pleasure of working with Kamecia. She was great, had me in and out in no time. Kamecia is known for being heavy handed but I must say before starting my hair, I asked her to please be gentle especially with my edges and she was. I walked out feeling comfortable even the next day, no complaints. She also gave me a beautiful updo. Thank you Kamecia! Not forgetting to mention the ambiance to the service it’s immaculate. One of my best salon experiences - they’re are very professional ❤️
Difficult to schedule. Difficult owner. Rude. I waited to post this rating because I didn’t want to rate in the heat of the moment.I had sister locs placed by someone who didn’t have enough experience (though I didn’t know it at the time). When my hair had a lot of slippage, I sought out Natasha. I read her reviews, did my homework.She was fine in the beginning. She was frustrated by having to do “repairs.” After the 2nd visit, she made her frustrations very clear. She often blamed me or questioned what I was doing to my hair. I started going to one of her apprentices (very nice young lady), who also did a nice job doing customer relations clean-up.I had to pay for appts in advance. Why did I keep going back? I was convinced she was the only one who could fix my hair. Not true. Getting my money back was just as difficult. She threatened to keep my money just because she had a no refund policy...even for services UN-rendered!When you don’t value yourself, you don’t value your customers. Go to Sabine’s Hallway. It’s an entirely different experience.
Im not one to write reviews, but Ive found this great salon in Bed-Stuy and I want to spread the word! Vanity Hair Studio NYC is a sophisticated salon that gives the feeling of a high end establishment without the pretentiousness. My stylist Natasha is a licensed cosmetologist that not only knows how to style hair, she explains the hows and whys of what is best for my hair. Shes knowledgeable, I didnt get my hair washed with generic shampoo and conditioner, but with products that are best for my hair type. She has a variety of product lines including Aveda.But let me back track, the shop comes across as boutique, but dont be intimidated. Its because all styling and staging areas are private! Finally, my hair issues remain between my and my stylist. No longer will my hair appointments be a community event. I can have privacy! Its interesting that I did not realize this was an issue for me until this solution was available. I love the idea that my hair care experience can be as private as a visit to the doctor or dentist. Additionally, I am not one who wants to spend by Saturday morning in an assembly line called a hair salon. Ladies and gentlemen, you know the feeling....coming in for your appointment only to be shampooed, and sitting under the dryer for another hour, while your stylist finishes two other people in front of you. Vanity Hair Studio NYC offers a one on one experience from beginning to end.We all have our preconceived notions when it comes to beauty salons. For me, I was not one to correlate most salons with professionalism. I usually felt beholden to the whims of my stylist. Natasha and the folks at Vanity have changed my mind about this. I received nothing but respect and attentiveness from my initial inquiry to the end of my appointment. Plus, the day before my appointment, I received and email message to remind me of such. Who does that? Vanity Hair Studio does!Now this place isnt for everyone. If you are looking for a $20 wash and set, keep looking. It is affordable. And although I tried to avoid cliches, you will get what you paid for....and then some!
Initially I gave 5 stars, but this was before I went my last day.The loctitians who retightened my hair were great and did great but I do advise people to check out the prices 65 per hour and be willing to be flexible if the estimated time is longer, than be ready to invest.My hair was overdue 4-5 months (due to covid and traveling to MD to get it done) the cost was around 700+ dollars for an estimated 12 hours. My hair did not get done because it was difficult. However, the loctitians that did my hair did a quality job for the hair that did get done. After talking with the owner (I asked for a partial refund for my hair not getting finished in the estimated time) (after going in a 3rd time (no charge) for being offered to get my hair done as a model for a new stylist) I felt discouraged, not listened to and partially blamed for having difficult hair and was told what did I expect? with my overdue hair. I expected after the consultation and 12 hours ( split into 2 days, which was fine) with the cost I would have a fully retightened head. Again I appreciate the work the ladies, especially the first one did for doing my hair, but I wish I could have been understood from my point of view, since I havent experienced anything like that before with my previous loctitian in MD, even with coming in with an 4 month over due head.Overall, again, I did not feel listened to or considered for my words about why I felt upset. In the phone call, the owner offered to do my hair herself for the last portions that were undone. I repeatedly said I would give her a call to see if I actually wanted to go through with it. I just sent an email saying no thank you, but thank you and that I didnt want to come back. The place is clean, cute and the staff are cool. I just did not appreciate the feedback I got from the owner. I just felt, once I got my consultation, I would get loctitians that would be able to deal with/ handle my difficult overdue hair. (since in the past I have had it done but by another place, that cost way cheaper with a 12 year experienced loctitian, but because no one was available until august except here) I took my chances with new people ( not to say the loctitians I had were bad, they did great and I would go back for the quality of it, but with they way the owner responded to and treated the situation, I just dont want to.I would give 5 stars for the retightening quality (besides my locs that were partially retightened at the root and left to be repaired in the middle) but I didnt find out until later) and good treatment from staff. If you are willing to invest, and can be clear about the timeline of when your hair will get done, even though these things can be unexpected then I would recommend.- ResponseYour response shows your unprofessionalism. I still paid nearly $800 for the services that were provided that we initially agreed on. We did the consultation, you saw my hair, you gave me your estimate and then could not get my hair done in the 12 hours divided into 2 (6) hour increment days that you estimated at the consultation. At this point, I hope you learn to respond to a negative review/ an honest review of a customers experience in a professional manner. Instead of trying to blame the conditions of what happened on myself and my hair. Also, having gone through my experience I do not / would not plan on returning anyways, especially with the way you handled the situation. Have a great day.
If you are looking to get your Sisterlocks installed and education about your hair this is the place to go. I was lucky to have found this place earlier this year as it was walking distance from my house. I had research Sisterlocks for years but due to career obligations I couldnt get them. However, that changed in Jan 2017. I had research places in NY and personally knew of another establishment that couldve installed them BUT I chose Vanity Hair Studio NYC as I saw their work and met a complete stranger whose hair was amazing and confirmed she had her hair done at Vanity Hair Studio NYC. I wasted no more time and booked my consultation where I asked many questions and received all my answers. My Sisterlocks were installed in March 2017 and I loved them from Day 1. Unfortunately, I had to relocate out of NY to CA but Natasha and I put our heads together and we found me a new consultant in Cali. Six months in and I LOVE my hair thanks to the solid foundation of Vanity Hair Studio NYC and Natasha!
Natasha is one of the greatest Consultants you will ever meet. She tightened my locs with ease and made sure that I looked great for a special occasion. She was very patient and worked fast. She even gave me valuable advice for the long-term care of my locs. I will definitely be returning for services in the future.
This review is for Vanitys Jasmine Mist oil. Yall already know the loc work at Vanity is impeccable, but during my most recent retightening, my loctician used Vanitys Jasmine Mist oil on my scalp. The scent of the oil is beautiful. It is floral, light, and clean smelling. The feel of the oil-OMG-What a game changer as far as the experience goes! The oil felt like liquid silk as it was applied directly to my scalp. The texture and consistency was excellent- it was light, smooth, refreshing and left my scalp moisturized but not shiny or greasy/oily, and my Locs look and feel moisturized and have great natural sheen! Thanks Vanity! Cant wait to do it again!!!
Due to COVID-19 I was unable to have my retwist done in the appropriate timing after starting my loc journey. I had become so frustrated that I almost ✂️ all my hair off before my cousin referred me to Vanity Studio.I am so glad she did! After about 6 months of hair growth I felt liberated that Stacey was able to save my locs 😍.Its been 3 weeks since and I am STILL receiving compliments as if it was the first day.
I tried to call them over the phone after looking them up on Google. I needed help figuring out how to book an appointment since I noticed that their website didn’t seem to show any availability. I figured that if I call them then someone could help me make an appointment either over the phone or explain how I could do it on their website. When I called someone name NATASHA answered and quickly hung up on me when I mentioned that I was trying to book an appointment.Then I got a txt from the person named Natasha and I was met with really bad customer service. Natasha really was rude and didn’t have any intentions on helping me. Would not recommend this place.

The first appointment was typical however making appointments was a hassle and fraught with poor communication and mistakes. After the last conversation the owner refused to hear my statement about why my appointment seemed garbled in their system.Instead of simply hearing my quick statement, which was that an earlier appointment had opened up so my later appointment had been rescheduled- and someone on their end forgot to change it in their system, she wanted me to wait while she read through whatever meandering notes were in their system. I’m not sure why I’m supposed to spend time out of my day while they decipher a trail of confusing notes? She treated me like I was a problem for trying to quickly connect the dots for her instead she wanted me to wait around (when I’m already running late to an appointment) while she reads out loud to me the notes that trace the mistakes made in their system.I’m supposed to stand around listening to her track all of their mistakes and she wouldn’t listen to the one sentence that I had to say that summed it up? 🤷🏾♀️Reply-your response continues to show your unwarranted hostility to me as a (former) customer. I mentioned my work and said that I get contacted for shows and now work longer hours and wanted to quickly have my hair retightened because of my long hours. Also, I said that’s why booking appointments would be more challenging because I might have to go out of town for a show and call to make changes as my schedule fluctuates. Apparently you think I wanted “better” treatment, lol, I wanted professional treatment that I’m sure many other salons can provide. That’s why I called, as I said I would, to change my scheduled appointment. You rudely hung up and said you were canceling the appointment.Again, you must have some issues, not sure why my job was such a problem for you? I never said I was a producer 🤷🏾♀️ since thats definitely not what I do. And, I didnt ask for any special treatment- I wanted the appointment that Id made and tried to explain why I might have to reschedule. Your booking process was a problem.

Sanitization was always a priority in this salon. Salon is properly cleaned between clients, signage is posted. Staff is super courteous and understanding. I was extremely excited to get my sisterlocs retightened. I feel good! (in my James Brown voice)

Vanity Hair Studio NYC is definitely the hidden gem of New York City. As the only private salon with design stations inside of rooms for privacy, the service is A+ and the owner is adorable. I was able to get the hair style and hair color that I wanted and the dialogue with the stylist was hassle-free and I walked out a satisfied customer.
I am now at Vanity Hair Studios, Mrs. Natisha just finished my Sister Locs what amazing and Miracle she done for me I definitely Recommend her Amazing, Patience, Kindness ,Special Attention she gave me. 2022-06-23I worked with Natasha from start to finish. Her consultation was spot on and helped me decide on the starter method, interlocks. The Brooklyn studio was booked for the next month so I headed to her Bohemia spot. Great location, parking, and a clean, cool, relaxed studio vibe (with a little Netflix to keep us entertained). NO REGRETS Im a week in and its still so neat. She did an awesome job. The reviews sent me here so I had to add my own!

2022-06-02I give Vanity Hair studio NYC 5 stars because they deserve it. I have sisterlocks and I have had my hair retightened by “locticians” that did not know how to create a professional experience. Some would arrive late to my appt. I guess they felt that since we had a good rapport they could act like I was getting my hair done for free. Another loctician would take 6-8 hours because she often stopped doing my hair to manage her salon business or travel plans. There was another loctician who operates out of her living room but clients have no privacy and it feels like she is running a mill. From my very first appt with Vanity Hair Studios I have always received a professional experience. I believe that the hair journey is also a spiritual journey for me. At this salon they will make you feel like it too! Locticians start on time, they focus on your hair and don’t stop to gossip on the phone, eat while doing your hair or act like my hair is too thick or troublesome to do. I am always made to feel like it is my time and my loctician is working to put only their best energy into working with my hair. I admit I initially thought the service was pricey. It is NOT! Please understand you have a ton of locks that need to be cared for in a limited time and it is hard work. I am a true believer in you get what you pay for. I love a sale too but how many times have you bought something on sale and then you find out something is wrong with it or the quality is poor. The owner and staff work hard and their services are worth every penny in my humble opinion. Natasha, keep up the good work!!!

2022-06-24I got my hair dyed for the first time here - navy blue. It came out great and even though it’s faded to a kind of ombré purple and doesn’t look blue anymore, I still get loads of compliments on it 8 months out. The only reason I haven’t been back is that my hair still looks good to be honest.Update: I returned and got my hair dyed blue again. It came out great, and I was getting compliments on it just walking out of the salon. Natasha was also very patient and receptive of my feedback when I was having trouble uploading a payment method via the salon’s website and mobile application. Still a 5 star salon.

2020-01-28Natasha installed my locks in March 2017 and has personally retightened them every four weeks. She has provided me with the best hair experience of my life. Not only do I love my hair but Im 1000% confident in her ability to care for it. What sets Natasha apart is her professionalism, wealth of knowledge, honesty, and genuine care for her customer. Her work is always flawless. She is invested in your success and does everything she can to make it happen, including what is not realistic. If I could give her ten stars, I would. My only regret is that I didnt find her sooner.2020 Update: Natasha still my takes care of my locs and my hair is THRIVING. 2018-04-14I had my small traditional locs installed by Natasha in January 2018 and my hair has been flourishing ever since. Shes such a nice person and really takes care of your hair. She gives you valuable information on what products to use and how to maintain hair health, as well as what to expect during these first months of traditional locs. Ive made people who hate locs learn to love mine just because they see how mine as styled and maintained. (Pics are me 4 months into my locs journey)

2021-06-16I see Chika in the Bohemia location and I absolutely love it! She always runs on time and does an amazing job. Whether we watch Netflix, chat, or sit in silence my time with Chika is amazing. Also, I LOVE that Vanity washes and styles your hair.

2020-11-05I received my dreadlocks extensions a little bit over a month ago and I been in love with it ever since! 2020-12-16I’m not one that usually goes to hair salons. However, I decided to embark on this new hair journey and get locs. As I did research for days, I was surprised on how little the number of salons there were specializing in locs. After reading the reviews and checking out Vanity’s website, I knew this was the salon for me to start my locs. Although they specialized in sister locs I knew I could trust them installing my traditional locs. Before installations you’re required to the have a consultation. My consultation was with the owner Natasha and she was great! She explained to me everything I needed to know before I started my locs. She answered any questions I had and made me feel at ease. The knowledge and professionalism she had reassured me that I found a great salon and I couldn’t wait to get started.I’m currently a few months into my traditional locs journey and I love how they’re turning out. Not only do the stylist know what they’re doing, they take their time and make sure you’re satisfied. While getting your hair done they put on the TV for you in case you want entertainment and are always checking in with you to make sure you’re okay. I love the energy that you can feel throughout the salon and how clean and professional they are. I would highly recommend anyone to Vanity Hair Studio in a heartbeat. I’m so happy to have found them and I can’t wait to see how my hair keeps nourishing. Thank you Vanity Hair Studio!!!
