I have absolutely NO idea why this place got such bad reviews. We took our dog here twice when she was in desperate conditions and the vet and staff were nothing but kind, knowledgeable, and informative. We got updates regularly and they took such good care of her. I cannot thank everyone here enough who gave our baby the care she needed that gave her 2 more years of life. When it was her time to go, they made her SO comfortable. My family and I cannot thank everyone here enough.
Had a wonderful experience with my elderly dog needing mouth surgery and teeth pulling. Dr. Ardolina was so kind and compassionate. The staff was wonderful, they are organized and caring. Every time I called to check on him they couldn’t be more helpful. No attitudes here!!! Excellent care! Yes pricey but it’s our families health!
Atrocious. We will never be back to this clinic, and never refer to this clinic. We understand you are short staffed and stressed, even if that means us waiting in the car for 8 hours to hear anything about our critical situation. No one here cares about the families, or truly, the animals. Just the money and ensuring you dont leave the parking lot. You are here to care for animals. Not build a larger facility to care less and charge more. Stay away. Even on phone calls you are treated with no professionalism and are disrespected. People come here in dire need of your help for their babies, then you scam them $3500 for one night. Makes me sick.
Unfortunately we put our dog down last night in the middle of the night. The emergency hospital was caring, quick in response, kind , knowledgeable and incredibly understanding. They gave him pain med and listened to our needs and explained everything to us. Dr Kramer was amazing and there for us in every way. We know that we had no other choice. Thanks to the team for making a difficult process handleable. RIP Spencer 🐾❤️🙏🏻1/15/22
OMG..Run run run. Fascinating this place is still operating. All reviews I have read are soooo true. My story too long to explain but after 1 surgery and poor prognosis unless I proceeded with another surgery, I took matters into my own hands and my cat is healed and doing very well. I am quite confident many services they billed and claimed to have done were actually never done. Rarely return phone calls after surgery was completed and after he was discharged for a second time but I will not get into that. They got their money that is all that matters. I guess I have to give 1 star to be fair there were some assistants and aides that actually seemed to care for the animals.
I have to start by saying the doctors here are wonderful. Dr Morgenstern is very caring and professional. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and answer your questions. He communicates test results and treatment in an understandable manner. Everyone in the cardiology department that I have had contact with has been professional and caring. However that said, the overall experience of going to this clinic has been an exercise in frustration. After a 10 o’clock appointment with cardiology I had my dog back in my car and had spoken to Dr Morgenstern by 11. I then waited 2 hours to get my bill even after asking several people if they could check on the delay. I know this is a stressful time for everyone but there has to be a better way. My experience today makes me hesitate to use this facility again.
Turn around and try your chances somewhere else. They will try to diagnose your animal over the phone after telling you earlier in the day they will have someone look at your pet in person. After lying to me and having the VT state that it was an over the phone diagnostic after being there earlier in the day and asking for a professional in herpitology to see him it seems I have wasted my time not only once but twice at this place. I gave my information to try and speak with the owner to discuss the matter and maybe even dismiss the charges due to unprofessional handling of the whole situation. By the way my animal died overnight after being diagnosed with an illness that takes several weeks to die from. I am a big reptile keeper who is very knowledgeable on reptiles. its sad that I know more than the vet when it comes to my animals. I told them what medication he needed as well and informed them that Im also in the process to become a veterinarian myself and I was still disregarded and denied the medication that I actually needed. This place runs on money that they take from hard working people who are in emotional distress for their loving animals. This facility is only running because it has a contract with Petco. Hopefully the company wakes up to this harsh abuse and decides to contract a more responsible / reasonable hospital/clinic.
I brought my 13 year old cat here for chemotherapy between January and April 2020 after he was diagnosed with lymphoma and had a large mass in his ear. At first things seemed to go well and looked positive and the mass went away. Dr. Brodsky continued to treat my cat and the entire time his weight was dropping consistently and he began looking worse and worse. He began going outside the litter box and my concerns were brushed off by Dr. Brodsky as behavioral and not connected to treatments. My concerns about blood in his urine were brushed off. I frequently heard the staff laughing and joking behind the door and discussing vacations and skiing trips while they were supposed to be treating my cat. I was told that these treatments would become less frequent over time. Instead the opposite happened and i was asked to bring him in more and more often. I sank somewhere in the range of $6000 in this place. The last time I brought my cat here before he passed he was without exaggeration one foot in the grave and they treated him anyway and took my money when they should have done nothing at all. I last heard from Dr Brodsky the day my cat passed because he was calling me with test results. At that point it made no difference, and he knew it. I hope nobody else falls into this money pit trap. They know you are vulnerable. Think twice before choosing chemotherapy.
This place is horrible. Please believe me. I wish this place was shut down. My whole families heart is broken. We had a grey African parrot, Luna. Waited hourssss just for them to tell us it was a bacteria and that she was gonna be fine and to put on the medicine they gave us. She looked so much sadder and even more sick. They charged us 500 just to check her. We got her back and she died an hour later in my moms arms. I hate this place they could’ve cared more for her. She would be here flying singing making us happy. Please if you love your sweet munchkins don’t bring them here
Dr. Brodsky and his oncology staff are fantastic. If your pet is under their care, your pet is obviously having serious health issues. Dr. Brodsky puts things in very simple terms for you to understand what your pet is up against, but also is very easy to talk to. He and his staff are all very attentive and I always feel confident that theyre treating my pet with top notch care. The COVID protocols do make the appointments long but that had nothing to do with the care your pet is receiving. If your pet needs a top notch oncologist, I highly recommend Dr. Brodsky.
I spent over an hour in the phone queue...it got down to me being the next and I was disconnected. I called back. Was #6..... it eventually brought me to 4th in the queue and then started all over again for me to press 1 if, etc, etc. I was stupid enough to try again....same scenario played out. Then an answering service picked up. She said shed put it in as an emergency. That was about 6pm last night. Im still waiting for the return call. I realize its just a guinea pig but try explaining that to my kids who have been crying about their sick pet. If this is an indication of how they operate, forget it. I certainly wont ever bring my dog there!!!!!!!!!
Kudos to the staff of VMCLI for working around the unfortunate disruption caused by renovations. I was disappointed that I couldnt go inside with my dog for his oncology consultation. However, on arrival I was assigned a numbered parking spot and in less than 15 minutes a staff member had come out, taken my information and brought my dog inside. After the exam, Dr. Brodsky came to my car and thoroughly explained the diagnosis, treatment options and what I could expect going forward. He answered all my questions fully and compassionately. My dog was brought back to me after additional tests that I consented to, and he did not appear traumatized. It took about another 15 minutes to finish paperwork and payment. I will admit that I chose to continue treatment at a different facility because it is much closer to home, but I dont hesitate to recommend VMCLI based on the experience I had.
My epileptic dog was experiencing cluster seizures. We brought him to VMC after being sent home by North Shore Animal Leagues vet. After his sixth seizure we brought him to VMC they were quick to triage him and kept him overnight to get him stable and ready to come home. The staff was professional and compassionate. We even got to visit him before we left. We received detailed discharge instructions and follow up texts and phone calls to check in on our boy! I highly recommend VMC for an emergency and will be looking into other services they may offer for our Lucky Boy.
Unfortunately there is no way to give this place 0 stars because trust me I would if I could. To say I am disgusted is an understatement.. Not only have me and my family had a bad experience of our own but now my co worker has had the same. This place is absolutely money hungry and they do NOT care about your animals.. take your business and money elsewhere. The people are rude and leave you hanging when you are trying to get info about your pet. My co workers daughter who is 7 just got her very first pet and is now left devastated by the outcome this place has given her. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE IF YOU WANT GENUINE CARE FOR YOUR ANIMAL BECAUSE THIS PLACE WILL NOT GIVE IT. Please read your reviews and chose wisely !!!!!!
If you want your pet dead, bring it to VMCLI !!!My dog needed emergency xrays and was unable to urinate. We rushed straight from his vet there and once they greet you at their parking lot they take your dog and do nothing for hours. If you inquire whats being done the receptionists get aggressive and insulted, and of course youre not allowed to leave your car. After 2 hours some vet finally called us saying she was working on the price writeup. The pup was in severe pain and already not moving much, yet they did nothing for almost 3 hours. About another hour later a receptionist came out with a bill for almost $ 4,000 to get an x-ray and basic blood tests done. All the while the dog received no attention, no painkillers, no anti-inflammatories and no x-rays. By the time they brought up a bill that was a pure scam I asked to have my dog released. We paid their parking fee (because nothing else was done) of about $ 100 per hour which they will charge you, were treated like a nuisance and the dog received not one iota of care, not to mention the attitude of each of their workers towards you.We rushed straight to West Hills Animal Center in Huntington where the same work was done within half an hour, diagnosis given right away. Not to mention we paid $ 375 for immediate x-rays and $ 289 for bloodwork. Wish I could give VMCLI zero stars out of 5, but it was not possible. Our experience with Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island was that they are nothing but a joke. If you love your pet, avoid it like the plague.
I am writing this review to hopefully save people time and money. If this place shut down tomorrow it wouldnt be soon enough. What they do there is criminal. I took my dog there because he was vomiting repeatedly. They took him in and two hours later the vet called me and told me basically that nothing was wrong, and he would send the dog out soon. They promptly came out to collect payment of 1084$!!!! For no diagnosis. 90 minutes later, after complaining several times about getting my dog and going home, they finally brought him out. They had no problem coming to collect the unbelievable sum they charged me for next to nothing but bringing the dog was beyond their capabilities for 90 minutes. Fast forward 4 months and I get an email that my bill is about to go to a collection agency. I had already paid them 1084$ but they decided later that I still owed 481$ on top of the 1084$ I had already paid in full. I never received the second bill until the email about a final notice came. On the second bill was 4 medications that I NEVER received. I called to complain and after more than 9 phone calls to rectify the bill and over a months time, they finally removed 200 dollars for the medications I never received. They still insisted I had to pay the rest of the bill for monitoring my dog among other made-up charges which had magically changed price for the same service that was listed on the first bill. This place is run by crooks and run as poorly as any business I have ever dealt with. I plan on reporting them to the state veterinary board. It is possible that the vets are well intentioned, but the managers and owners are crooks.
My dog, Peanut, has been a patient of Dr. LaCroix’s for about 11 years now. When he was only 8 months old, he almost lost his eye, because he didn’t make tears. As a result of his severe dry eye, he developed an ulcer on his eye that penetrated almost every layer of his cornea. I was told, when I brought him in, that his eye could possibly rupture. The amazing doctors and staff there, kept him safe all night. The next morning, Dr. LaCroix, who I like to refer to as “my hero”, performed a graft on his eye, which saved it. She felt that his risk was high for this possibly happening again, so she recommended a surgery, where she actually moved his saliva glands to his eyes, to produce tears!Well here we are, 11 years later, and my dog still has both eyes and is doing fantastic! I don’t know where we would have been today, without Dr LaCroix.I’d be remiss, if I also didn’t mention Dr Mcleese (I’m so sorry if I misspelled her name). She too, has been wonderful, and has participated in Peanut’s care many times. To say thank you, is just simply not enough, but I am so grateful for the love and care my dog has received from these amazing doctors, for all these years.
VMCLI provided the best possible care to my cat who was very sick for 2 years. The cardiologist, Dr. Morgenstern, was very knowledgeable, and so compassionate, and helpful as I navigated my cats illness. If it werent for the care he got at VMCLI, I wouldnt have gotten the extra time with my beloved cat. When the time came to say goodbye, Dr. Morgenstern and the staff were so kind. He helped me find the best option to put him to sleep. It was not easy, but I greatly appreciated the support.
Spent a lot of money for testing and never get called with results. Have to keep calling and leaving messages and hope someone will eventually call you - the whole time your pet is sick and needs treatment. All about the money. Will never go back - heard Coastal vet hospital is way better
I have been bringing my dogs here since 2017. First to Dr. Fondacaro in internal medicine, then in later years to Dr. Barone in neurology and Dr. Short in the surgery department. I can tell you that I wouldn’t bring my dogs any place else. One of my dogs had back surgery last year with Dr. Barone. She made a really stressful situation less so by walking me through each step. The care and compassion shown to my pups during their visits by all staff involved is something I won’t soon forget. The staff treats your animal like one of their own. I’m so thankful to have a place I can feel comfortable taking my dogs to for specialty care. Thank you, VMCLI, for all you’ve done for Herbie and Hailey Belle.
I will never bring my dog back to them again. The Internal Medicine Specialist was beyond rude, obnoxious, demeaning, condescending, unprofessional and the most uncaring doctor I have ever spoken to. My dog has many underlying diseases which he knew about because I brought my dog there in August to advise me on his diabetes. He sounded thoroughly annoyed that I was there and actually said to me that youre 12 year old dog has many issues and what do you expect me to do for you in a half an hour??? I left there 3 hours later with not one bit of helpful information and in tears!!! This was after calling him for one week straight and never receiving a phone call back. I was beyond upset and disappointed with my experience there & how unprofessional and rude a doctor could be. I never had this experience at LIVS and I would highly recommend anyone living in Suffolk County to take the ride over there if needed. I would have given this facility a zero but this page wouldnt let me!
Words cant even describe the disrespect they treat you with. They killed my dog, they told me she was ok for surgery and passed all the pre surgical tests. She went into surgery the Wednesday we took her home she passed hours later. And they have the audacity to charge you 370 dollars for cpr because we took her back to the vet because she wasn’t breathing right. Charge me for cpr? while were visiting our dead animal. How can people be so cruel. And we tried to the dispute the bill because what they did wasn’t right and they said you signed the paperwork and you take this risk having surgery. 0 star place please think twice going here.
Don’t go here unless you want to sit in the parking lot for hours before your dog is even seen. They need to work on improving their communication and customer service skills. If you have no space for new appointments say that from the beginning instead of using the “we only have 1 doctor in today” excuse.
Five Stars all around. Everyone was extremely professional, personable & caring ~ from the initial call made to schedule a consultation right through to when I was able to pick-up my cat after surgery. Even the folks at the pharmacy were amazing. The drop off/pick-up system went so smoothly & quickly ~ all the staff involved were extremely friendly & competent. And I cannot praise Dr. Ardolino enough ~ she took time (ringing me in my car while waiting) during the consultation to explain my pets condition clearly (stomatitis with faucitis) & reviewed the various options, again explaining very clearly. She was compassionate & patient, very understanding. After the procedure, Dr. Ardolino called me as soon as my pet was waking with a complete run-down of the operation & next steps. Again, she was very compassionate. I brought my pet home that evening & within a few short days she was back to her spunky self! Many thanks to everyone at VMLI. This is without a doubt the place to bring your beloved fur baby for oral surgery.
My cat danny was crying and drooling. we brought him to vmcli and they said he was constipated and told me they wanted to keep him over night. they called me the next day and said he took a seizure over the night and wanted to do more tests all the tests came back good. danny got very good care. we brought him home and he was taking more seizures. we had to put danny to sleep. tony called us every day when danny was in the hospital and when he came home and was keeping the doctor informed.i have three more cats and if they have and problems i will bring them to vmcli
Killed my 7 year old golden doodle by misdiagnosis and putting her on 8 different medications that we soon realized she didn’t need, at that point it was too late. The medication they prescribed wasn’t for her issue and her body attacked the foreign substances in a way that she internally bled to death. If there was a 0 stars I would. Disgusting and way over priced. I hope your place gets raided and shut down. RIP my Lily ❤️
Not only do they treat the animals that are sick and dyeing horribly, they treat people with disrespect as well. If I could give this place 0 stars I WOULD. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!!! All they care about is MONEY!!!! Unless you pay upfront, your pet will not be taken care of. This company is rude, disrespectful, and they dont care about the animals. Maybe if my coworker had taken her pet somewhere else, they would still be alive.
First of all, their phone system is out of whack. I started as the 6th person in line to speak to someone, waited till I was at the 1 spot, then after 20 minutes it kicked me back to 2nd, then 1, then I was hung up on. So I called again, after a lot of waiting I finally got through and the women asked if I could go on hold, I said no (cause why would I call the emergency number if I could wait?) and she ACTUALLY gave me an attitude and said “why” and argued with me. She didn’t seem to understand that 99% of people calling are in crisis, and they really don’t care that you don’t want to be at work. EVERY negative review seems valid to me as my brief experience matches many others. Absolutely rude staff that will easily put their ego above your pets health
My Rottweiler recently was referred to VMCLI by our vet and from the time we arrived at the location I was very impressed with how they treated my pup. We were there to see Dr. NOELLE LA CROIX the Opthamologist in the medical center. She came right to our car with an assistant and treated my dog as if it were her own. She was very gentle as was her assistant. They took him inside did what they had to do ( he was sedated) and then took the time to let us know exactly what was going on. Unfortunately he had Lymphoma and there was no cure and we lost him 1 week later, but everyday Dr. Noelle La.Croix emailed me when I had questions and was so professional and knowledgeable and sympathetic for what we were going through. Please dont hesitate to use the services at VMCLI. although my experience was only with Dr. La Croix it was a very professional one..
My Stewie has been a patient of Dr La Croix for about 18 months and also seen by Dr MacLeese a couple of times. Both doctors and the entire ophthalmology department have been amazing and always take time to return phone calls and emails quickly. They helped him keep his vision for much longer than expected. Thank you!
I brought my 18 year old leopard gecko here, I probably called 10+ places and they were the only place willing to see him. Everyone I encountered was beyond sweet and professional they really took their time and tried their absolute best to help us out. The price was extremely fair and honestly cheaper then most other vets I’ve been to which was great. The vet was super clear and great with communication while we were waiting outside. I felt like they made the extra effort to keep me aware of what was going on, everyone was really kind and I felt completely comfortable with everything. Would totally recommend coming here, it was a really pleasant experience for such a rough situation!
We brought our Lucy here Monday around 4am. She had heavy breathing coughing and collapsed. They took her immediately. Are they expensive.. oh yea but thats emergency costs. They kept us informed the entire time. Dr parente explained things and was kind. We lost our Lucy to a blood clot in her lung and there was nothing that could be done. they were very compassionate. I’m beyond devastated but they tried to figure it out time was not on our side. Dr parente saved my other dog in February when my old vet told me to out him down. I’m grateful for everyone there who tried to help my Lucy. Rest in peace Lucy you always had angel wings even before rainbow bridge.Update*** i had to bring my other dog here for strawberry jam diarrhea coming out. We got there early hardly anyone in the lot and waited over an hour and no one came. My dog had blood coming out, hes 17 and is actually a patient here!! So we left and went to another er that took him right away! I probably will not be going here for an emergency again. Such a shame!
Worst experience ever!Triaged by someone who tells the doctor the problem, u dont actually speak with the doctor. Clearly this method does NOT work!! Read your reviews, all true! This place has no regard for you or your animal. Not sure how the workers sleep at night knowing they are stealing peoples money at the expense of these animals lives. Unethical and disgraceful!!!!
Beware!!! please please read all reviews it might just save your fur baby and your bank book. Emergency room is a nightmare after reading reviews and talking to a friend who’s pet and family just went through a horrible experience and thousands of dollars I was going to take my fur baby here for a problem, thank god i did my homework and choose commack animal hospital. please read these reviews absolutely disgusting and unethical
They hung up the phone on me when I asked questions about their policy. I was calm & polite to the rudest, low class individual I’ve ever encountered. Then the started calling me on my personal phone to argue with me. Do whatever you can to avoid patronizing this S-hole! If I could give negative stars I would
My Vet suggested I go here to get an Ophthalmologist’s opinion on my dog’s eyes. Sweet Pea was previously allowed to be mauled “for sport” and her right bottom eye lid is ripped. She continually gets eye abrasions in both eyes. From the moment I got to my appointment, I appreciated the security guard in the parking lot who directed me where to park then called in that I was here. A staff member came to my car and had me sign a few papers. We made a few jokes, which certainly helped my stress level of bringing Sweet Pea in.Then a staff member from the Ophthalmology Dept came out to ask questions and take notes. My biggest fear was that Sweet Pea is a “runner” and deathly afraid of unknown people. NO PROBLEM! She allowed me to walk with her to the door and had their extra leash on her. After her exam, she was returned to me and again reassured that she was fine in the exam room.Dr. MacLeese called me and discussed in laymen’s terms what she found, the protocol and other possible treatments. Obviously knowledgeable in her field, she was also answered all my questions.I am very happy my Vet recommended VMCLI to me.
We brought our dog to VMCLI because he could not breathe. They brought him in right away to give him oxygen. We were told he would get a chest x-ray to assess his condition. They were very quick to collect $600 before any services were rendered and we were then left to wait for six hours without any other care being rendered to my pet. When I asked the front desk staff they were rude and dismissive. I inquired if he had his x-ray (after 5 hours) and was told Nope. My dog then went into cardiac arrest and could not be saved. It was only after this, that the staff became concerned and compassionate, when it was already too late. The following Monday I called Erin, the customer service manager (had to call twice since she did not return my first call) to voice my concerns. She said that she would email the attending staff and get back to me. She never did and I had to call her twice the following week. I trusted this facility to care for my pet and not let him languish alone in a cage for six hours. I will never step foot in this facility or recommend them to anyone.
My dog received excellent care at this facility. The cardiologist even waited to see him since i had called ahead. it was a huge relief to know his heart was okay. The ER doctor who treated him kept me updated and i was very grateful. Everyone i encountered was courteous and helpful. I saw my dog being treated very kindly. My dog has been improving continuously since our visit and i am very pleased.
Very professional communication and service by the staff and veterinarian. It was a little tricky, as due to Covid19, owners must stay in their cars while pets are taken inside. However, the staff, as well as the vet, came out many times with updates, questions, etc, as necessary. I felt like the staff/vet cared about my pet and were great about explaining all options. I took my dog at night on a Saturday, in an emergency situation. He was taken in right way, treated appropriately and was able to go home that night. Very good experience all around! I took off one star because I did think that $500 for x-rays was a little excessive. However, because it was emergent, and after normal hours, I was anticipating things costing a little more than at the normal vet office.
Just before christmas my 2-1/2 yr old dog was found to have mas on kidney from my vet in mattituck. they arranged me an appt the next day and staff was able to see and operate on him removing a grapefruit sized mass on his kidney. the rapid efforts of staff, from consult to post surgery was incredible. every question was asked, answered, and was constantly updated. could not have asked for better team under circumstances
Please dont take your dog or cat to this veterinarian clinic All they want is money and more tests and did nothing for my dog I spent lots of money and they wanted me to spend $15,000 more please dont take your dog and the doctors were rude and I waited in the parking lot 5 hours one time and 4 hours the next day. Only time they were on it was to get paid before they would even do anything. Please let the better business bureau know about this veterinarian hospital.
I brought my mouse here after I couldnt get an appointment with either of the vets that I normally go to and Im so glad that they referred me here! Dr. Mehlrose is extremely knowledgeable about mice and knew what the issue was before even examining my little girl. He spent a long time explaining everything to me, seeing what medicines I was comfortable administering, and making sure I understood everything. He took his time with my mouse, as she had become very stressed during her initial exam so he let her rest for a little bit before continuing with what he had to do. The rest of the staff that I encountered were all polite and very thorough in getting information from me about what was going on with my mouse. I will definitely be coming back here in the future with my pets.
DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. They provide little to no information. Obtaining a diagnosis is next to impossible as the Doctor will not get on the phone. They will keep you waiting in the parking lot for 3 or more hours at a time. The only time they provide personal attention is when they need payment. My dog was discharged eight days ago. They took a biopsy during her stay. My dog is sick again with possible gall bladder disease. I am told the biopsy results wont be provided until September 10 when the doctor returns. My dog could die before then. When I demanded the results (which they said they received yesterday), they hung up on me.
My family has spent a combined $30,000 on 2 surgeries for my dog so I just dont have anymore credit or money to give them. Today was $900 just for basic diagnostics, they said she needs more testing that will cost several thousand dollars. I told them I have no money left and they shamed me for taking my dog home by making me sign that I took my dog home against medical advice. My pet likely needs euthanasia and I sure as hell wont go to VMCLI. Beware, all they care about is money they take advantage of pet owners love for their pets to bleed them dry financially. Horrible place.
Unless you are seeing one of their specialists(which are wonderful) stay clear of this hospital. They have lost all their good ER staff and the animals suffer. I also work for a veterinary hospital and my doc use to refer VMCLI until my horrific experience while euthanizing my own dog. My 11 year old newfoundland had been under the care of both the internist and surgeon for many years. So when she suddenly collapsed, i immediately took her there assuming that they would do everything to save her based on her history. But instead the ER doc spent 5 minutes with her and called me to tell me that she cant FIX her today I mean who says that? There were no diagnostics done on her, only an irregular heart beat determined. The doc just said that I was dealing with a quality of life issue and it was time to euthanize. Less than 10 hours prior, the dog took a one hour walk and had a normal dinner! I may work in the field but when its your own pet, you become that distraught pet owner at this difficult time. I dont think this doc even bothered to look at my dogs history. When it came time to get the pawprint they supposedly made, no one could find it. In fact the staff got nasty with me after I questioned where it was as I waited an hour with my autistic daughter in the parking lot for something that probably was never made. Its been 2 months and I still DO NOT have my dogs records. I have called, the vet I work for has called, and so have my techs. And STILL NOTHING. The ER doc herself promised to send me within 48 hours and nothing. If you love you pet, go to VEGS or Atlantic coast in an emergency. I am so heartbroken that i didnt.
Tried to make an appointment, was hung up on both times after it said I was going to be the next caller. Fine, I will then go to the website to see if there was an email, until I read the reviews, 3.1 is clearly saying something is wrong. I dont want to risk my dogs life for people who are not only unprofessional but people who are only in it for the money.
I want to preface this review as someone who is not looking to point the figure at someone and blame them for being complicit in the death of my dog, but rather help save someone else’s pet from the systemic gross negligence my dog received across the board at VMCLI.We rushed my dog to VMCLI on Labor Day evening after he was breathing heavily and had collapsed. After about 30 minutes, one of the vets informed us that our dog was extremely dehydrated and his heart had shrunk due to the lack of blood flow to his organs, as a result of being incredibly dehydrated. We were told his situation was dire.At this point we were presented with 2 options. Option 1: was we can start the process of taking a bunch of tests to identify what is wrong; first of which would be a full blood panel. We were told this option would most likely be a long and expensive process, or Option 2 - would be to consider putting him down. We chose option 1.After about 45 minutes we were visited by one of the “interning” vets saying the blood work came back and my dog was anemic, that his red blood cells were incredibly low, and in order for him to survive the night he would need a blood transfusion. My wife and I gave them the green light to proceed. Not more than 10 minutes of the interning vet leaving our room another vet came in and said they had made a mistake with the blood panel. After doing a manual check of his blood, it actually looked ok. This was good news. We were told his situation at this point was much better. He wasn’t out of the woods yet, but much better. They wanted to keep him over night and take more tests with internal medicine in the morning. We presented the idea of transferring him to the care of our primary vet in the morning if he was in a condition to do so. They were ok with that. The following day my wife called in the early morning and spoke to the vet to ask how he was doing. She informed my wife that he was stable, but his pulse was a little high, due to the drugs, but he was ok to be transferred to my primary. When we picked him up shortly after, he was rolled out on a metal gurney and was clearly in terrible condition. His tongue was a light gray color and again he was breathing very deeply. My wife and I repeatedly asked, “Is he ok to go,” at which point we were told he’s ok, the reason he’s panting and looks the way he does is because of the drugs.I reluctantly put him in the back seat of my jeep with my wife and 3 year old son wanting to believe that these vets were competent. Within 5 minutes of leaving the parking lot my dog (Tide) took 2 really deep breaths letting out a piercing yelp and stopped breathing on my wife’s lap. He was gone.We rushed the dog back to VMCLI and they were waiting with a gurney. They performed CPR on him for 5 minute to no avail. What happened? How could they let him leave when he was clearly in a critical situation? After 10 minutes the vet who oversaw him, and his release, apologized to us and had no words. What is the protocol for releasing an animal? Isn’t there an evaluation by the overseeing doctor before he’s released to say, “Yes he’s stable,” or, “No he’s not ok to leave?” We were never presented with these options.I just can’t wrap my head around the idea that a team of vets and staff in the back as my dog was being rolled out on that gurney, not one of them said this dog does not look good and should not be leaving. Why didn’t anyone present this to us? It’s incomprehensible. It was a clear case of gross negligence and all that were involved with over seeing him to some extent are complicit in the premature death of my best friend. Please let this be a warning to anyone out there whose pet is being treated at VMCLI by vets and staff alike that the negligence, lack of competence and care for my pet is an absolute atrocity. And this can happen to you. Please due your research online and read the reviews.RIP TideBtw - I was charged $2,100 for the whole ordeal.
I had to take my rabbit in for an emergency appointment. They wanted to keep him overnight for a cost of anywhere between $1100-1500. I had to wait outside in my car for 3 1/2 hrs for which 2 of the hours I sat there with no communication from anyone. Kelly was the only good thing about this experience. Don’t waste your time!!!
I have been struggling for a very long time with this facility. We have taken our Parrot for treatment there in the past and she is currently on a prescription for calcium which I unfortunately need to call into this office for refills and it’s always the same run around. You call and leave a message for prescription refill and never get a call back. You keep calling and still nothing. You then start calling and getting frustrated and then they seem surprised that you would be annoyed at the numerous unanswered requests. This has now happened to me three separate times. This time I felt compelled to write this review because people should know what goes on here. I have now been calling for TWO WEEKS for a simple prescription refill. During the two weeks Ive had three different people leave a voicemail on my cell saying that my prescription was called in to the pharmacy. Each of those calls directed me to a different pharmacy and none of them had received the prescription. I call the office again and was told someone will call me back. I’ve now been given another pharmacy and yet the prescription still has not been sent in there either. I don’t know why they wouldn’t send it to the same pharmacy they have before or why they say they sent the prescription anywhere if they haven’t. You call in and get the run around. There is never a manager available and the manager never calls you back. When you finally get through and get your issue resolved they apologize and say they don’t normally have this issue but yet I have this issue EVERY-TIME I need the calcium refilled. I can’t imagine I am the only one experiencing this lack of customer service and honestly a lack of compassion for the animal that needs the meds. I will be reporting this facility as well since we are yet to have this issue resolved and I still have not been able to speak to a manager. After posting my review I started reading through other peoples experiences and noticed they only reply to people who give them a 5 ⭐️ rating. You would think that if they actually cared they would address any and all concerns and negative feedback.
100% lacking in proper medical help and communication based upon the fact that pet owners must stay in cars and there is 1 phone call from a doctor in the many hours spent there. I was there for over 4 hours last night and I brought my dog home in more pain than when I arrived there. I asked for X-rays and received discharge papers, unsigned by me, saying “I declined” them. 100% false. When I asked about them my only response was that they were really busy and they didn’t realize I wanted them and that it would be another 7 to 8 hours or so. You cannot ask the doctor questions except via 3rd party who you have to hope can relay messages effectively, and they are completely unable to do so! It is completely unacceptable when everyone who goes there is there for an emergency.I have two elderly dogs and I would never again trust their well being there.
Very poor experience. Unfortunate that I had to go to one vet who recommended I come and get a sonogram for my dog who would not stop vomiting due to a potential blockage. Waited over 8 hours from start to finish and when everything was said and done, was basically informed that my dog wasn’t a priority over other “worse off animals”. While I get there should be a wait, 8 hours is unacceptable and to be spoken to a vet in that demeanor is unacceptable. Will not go back.
I am SO GRATEFUL to the staff at VMCLI for saving the life of my three month old kitten Little Jimmy. I took him in as an emergency at night and he was in heart failure. The vet on that night who cared for him, Dr. Monaco, could not have been more caring and attentive. She spent 45 minutes with me on the phone after initial exam explaining what they found and the course of action and answering my questions. As someone who works in a human doctor’s office, I can guarantee you no human doctor would ever spend that much time with a patient on the phone showing that amount care. She proceeded to call me twice in the middle of the night with updates and options for care. In the morning Little Jimmy was transferred to the Cardiology department and put under the care of Dr. Morgenstern. Dr. Morgenstern is wonderfully caring and brilliant! He was able to pinpoint what is happening to Little Jimmy and presented me with a possible course of action to save him. I cannot thank him enough and I’m so glad that he is the one overseeing Jimmy. Throughout Jimmy’s stay there, I was constantly updated and given realistic cost estimates. At every moment I had the opportunity to decline if the cost was too much for me. At every moment I was given realistic expectations that his condition was not good and the proposed treatment might not work or could cause other issues in turn. The prognosis was not good and I didn’t expect him to pull through, but it is because of the incredible staff and their knowledge and their care that my sweet little boy is still with me! If he had not made it, I still would have felt that they did everything they could to save him. I disagree with my whole heart with every negative review on here. Every single person I encountered on staff was so nice and caring! The cost was a lot, but I don’t understand how people are surprised by that. If a person walks into an ER in a hospital without health insurance, running tests and ultrasounds and x-rays etc are thousands upon thousands of dollars—it’s no different for animals and comparatively speaking is actually much cheaper. It’s a lot to treat emergency situations in animals, anywhere, period. I know that’s hard for people, it’s hard for me too, but that doesn’t make it their fault that it’s a financial burden for you. I suggest looking into a Care Credit card that can be used for emergency vet visits (as well is other things, such as elective/cosmetic surgery for humans that insurance won’t cover). Anyway, I for one am a very satisfied client! I think they went above and beyond to save my kitten! His future is still unknown as he is living with a serious heart condition, but it is because of VMCLI that he had a future at all and words cannot express how thankful I am for that.
Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island has an excellent team working for them. I was updated step by by step throughout the visit. Everything was carefully explained to me. Despite terrential downpours at the time of my visit the staff still took the time to be courtious. My veterinarian promptly called me to discuss my dogs condition and explained what to expect in the future. The practice did an outstanding job despite the limitations implemented due to COVID-19. I was very happy with my experience and would highly recommend the practice.
What a disgrace, I brought my dog there over the weekend paid over $1400 (FYI they will not see dog till they get payment first!!! ) The dog was having the same issues 2 days later, called them complaining about this. Spoke to a NASTY receptionist who by the way hung up on me!!!! Called back again spoke to someone else who advised me that she will have a doctor call back asap, Guess what been 3 days and nothing!! But they got paid for there service! DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE!! All they care about is getting paid, not your pet!!!
NEVER BRING YOUR PET HERE!!I am not one to usually bash anyone on social media. However, after the night I have had, I feel that everyone should be warned to NEVER bring their animal to Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip. Not only did I call their emergency service 3 times to receive no call back, I brought my guinea pig there after driving there to confirm that they have an exotic vet on staff. The examination fee is $175 which I was willing to pay. I explained to them that my guinea pig hasn’t been eating and today got much worse. I explained to them that she was dehydrated and hadn’t gone to the bathroom in hours and I was concerned to wait for my appointment at the regular exotic vet on Saturday. They took my guinea pig in and three minutes later brought her back out. The assistant told me that the vet looked at her and confirmed there was something wrong with her but it was not life threatening and they couldn’t see her because they were busy. Keep in mind, if I would have brought my dog, it would have still been $175 to enter so I was a paying customer like everyone else. They told me to bring her to the vet in the morning. After explaining to them that I could not get into the exotic vet earlier than Saturday and I was very concerned about her well being, they still told me this was not life threatening. Me knowing to trust my gut did not stop there. I called around to every emergency vet on the island. After 4 hours of calls, the Veterinary Emergency Group in Commack told me that they were not familiar with guinea pigs but because I was so concerned they would try to help. After seeing my guinea pig, the vet told me this guinea pig is really sick and needs a vet. I rushed her back to the exotic vet in Islip and told them to send the vet out to my car and tell me to my face that my guinea pig is ok. They took my guinea pig in and within a minute of being on the table she went into cardiac arrest. Although they tried to do cpr and revive her, Molly died on the table. My 1 1/2 year old guinea pig not only suffered for hours while I tried to find someone to save her, she died because a vet didn’t take the time to access her properly. Some may say it’s just a guinea pig but she’s not. She’s a class pet who gets so excited to see the kids come in in the morning that she runs around in circles screaming, she’s a class pet who makes my kids fill the room with laughter every morning while doing yoga, and she’s a class pet who always provides my kids with unconditional love even if they have dropped her a few times. She deserved better than this and Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island failed her.
WOW what a weekend. Let me start by saying this post is about the people that work here. my pet never a patient here.We recently moved to a different town and our neighbors have 3 beautiful female dogs whom they breed however we have a male dog that wasnt neutered. He absolutely lost his mind.It was like someone swapped my dog for another one. Hes 2yrs old and had NEVER done this before however we didnt live next to female dogs either. He didnt sleep, would not eat, was howling , screaming in a sound I had never heard before and was drooling non stop. I made an appt with a vet to get him neutered but they couldnt do it until Tuesday. On Friday my husband took him to a dog friendly hotel to give me a break and while walking him early Saturday morning our dog broke off of his leash and took off. My husband didnt even let me know until 2hrs later when he realized he could not find him. Around 10am Saturday morning I received an email and text message from our dogs chip service letting me know that Nicole found him and he was at veterinary med ctr long island.I called there hysterically crying, I dont know how the poor girl on the phone understood what I was saying. She was SO nice. She let me know where my dog was and assured me he was fine. On our way home from picking him up we spotted a Veterinary office which happened to be open and they were able to board our dog and medicate him to calm him down until he had his surgery today Monday which went very well. This dog is my heart. He was taken from his mom at 2 1/2 wks old and I literally bottle fed him. I can not thank Nicole enough and veterinary med ctr long island for taking my Charlie in when he was most vulnerable. He couldve ended up in the wrong hands or worse. So THANK YOU ALL for literally being Charlies Angels!!!!
Came on a Sunday and they were willing to take my cat in immediately which was great. Vet calls me as Im waiting in the parking lot, tells me everything is okay and ill get a prescription. I proceeded to wait over an hour with no answer, they took my credit card and disappeared, and no cat. Ive waited through multiple rotations of people to be left sitting there wondering where the hell they got my cat and money.
I cannot say enough good things about the care and treatment I received for my ten year old Pomeranian by Dr. Hillock and the Internal Medicine staff. They were kind, courteous, and professional. When I left I had the answers I needed and a treatment plan to take care of her condition. Dr. Hillock explained everything to me and was patient with answering all my questions. I am so glad I found VMCLI. They are top notch when it comes to caring for your pet.
My dog Perelka, who is 18 and 8 months (every day/month counts at this point) experienced her first ER visit last night. Respiratory distress, foaming at the mouth...I thought this was it. Arrived at VCMLI hyperventilating and in tears (me - not Perelka..), and she was triaged quickly.Breanna, you are an angel. When I handed off Perelka, I felt a sense of calmness that she was in good hands. I will never forget your comment about Perelka being almost your age! And Dr. Brian Gibbs could not have been more clear and comprehensive in answering questions I had and providing guidance.Perelka made it home...this time. And I am so grateful to VCMLI for that. Ive never been so grateful to be able to continue to provide her with 24/7 care. Also, Perelka saw Dr. Morgenstern earlier this month for a cardiology consult, and Dr. Carmichael in June for a dental consult. It was clear that both are experts in their respective fields. Couldnt have had a better experience.
I would give them zero stars if i could. They killed my English Bulldog this past weekend. They knew he was getting stressed and breathing heavy and should have sent him home with me. No they kept pushing and prodding, and testing this and that. Finally he contracted pneumonia, and between the breeds heavy breathing, and the now fluid in his lungs he could not take much more. I should have just brought him to my regular Vet as his issue of distention (food bloat) wasnt that serious. Well we put him to sleep last night and I cannot believe the chain of events. Lets not even discuss the final bill of $3600. My Vet looked over all the tests and treatments, and agreed that things were done improperly. I am going to sue this facility for a good amount of money as well as the individual DVMs that saw him. There is currently a large lawsuit going to trial this June in Supreme Court against these criminals. I am disgusted the way they snowballed his issues into euthanasia. Trust me, they will pay for this they are thoughtless pieces of s___!
STAY FAR FAR AWAY. We took our 2 year old dog to this place for a respiratory issue. They said he needed surgery on his trachea and also his back. We thought it was perhaps not a good idea to do 2 surgeries at the same time however they assured us this would be fine. They called my wife a day earlier than expected to pick up our dog. When my wife picked him up and started to drive home the dog seemed to be having a hard time breathing so she called to see if she should bring him back. They said no just bring him home and give him his medication and he will be alright. As soon as she brought him home his respiratory distress became elevated and she and my son rushed him to a closer hospital. The Veterinarian that examined him diagnosed that he had suffered seizures and was blind and death and had a 109 degree temperature. We had no choice other than euthanize this poor animal. The Vet that did this diagnosis clearly stated that this dog should have never been released after surgery.I spoke to the Vet that did his surgery and she had zero valid answers as to why she released my dog in that condition. This dog had to be put to sleep 90 minutes after being discharged for a surgery that has an over 90 percent success rate.I called numerous times to speak with the owners and they refused to call me back or refund us any of the $12000.00 we spent. We also spent another $2700.00 at the 2nd hospital as well. We have filed a complaint with the Veterinarian Licensing Board and we are filing a civil suite against these horrible people. They need to be stopped from doing this to other animals and families. They have absolutely no empathy and their negligence is clearly documented in other reviews. Please do your pet and yourselves a great justice and drive your pet to another facility.
We took our 1 year old golden retriever here after hearing from another emergency vet our dog needed surgery on his leg after jumping off the stairs. We called this place to get a second opinion and to do an MRI of our dogs leg to see if he truly needed surgery. We made the mistake of telling this place that we already went to a vet who recommended surgery. The vet called my husband (since we still can’t go inside) and told him we didn’t need to do an MRI because it was a waste of money - it was very clear and obvious the dog needed surgery and gave us pricing for the surgery. I didn’t like that she talked my husband out of an MRI so we decided to check with one more vet before we decided to spend $6,000 on a leg surgery. We just returned from a different vet that not only let us inside with our dog, but told us his leg is just inflamed and will heal on its own with limited movement and rest. It makes me sick that we made the mistake of telling this place that someone said our dog needed surgery because I think once we told them that- it was just a matter of them “winning” our business rather than actually making sure our dog was ok. I’m so glad we got another opinion and not only saved our dog the pain and recovery of a surgery but also saved ourselves $6,000. Would not recommend.
I’m sure it was a pleasure to send my 5 month old female panther chameleon I bought three days before bringing her to you. It was a pleasure I’m sure to send her home when I brought her in for her bone disease she died from yesterday. You sent me home laughing at me saying she wasn’t falling she had an unremarkable visit. She died when I rushed her to you yesterday. As you told me she was gravid but was on her last breathe because she had the bone disease you brought her in for. You wouldn’t give me her ashes for free. You wouldn’t rush her out to die with me. But you didn’t charger me for the cpr you did for her
The doctors and support staff were wonderful. There was a long wait time but between COVID and the fact that they are an emergency center it’s completely understandable.Lots of reviews say they charged for things not needed / not done, I can tell you that I had the exact opposite experience. They could have charged me for so much more but chose to go a conservative route.Anytime my animals need a specialist I will be back.
Took my dog in at about midnight she was sick with colitis. I was worried when I saw blood and didnt want to wait til my vet opened in the morning. The curbside check in was fast and easy and I have never been there before. They treated my dog very quickly, called me to discuss the treatment plan and sent her home with meds. Very happy with the service, everyone was very nice and professional. I also felt that the bill was very reasonable.
I came into the vet because my dog wasnt feeling good, she had a very high fever. I told them all her medical history and even sent the records from my vet. They told me that she had sepsis and I should put her down. Two days later, my dog gets better on her own. If I listened to the vet, my dog would have been murdered for no reason! I do not recommend going her unless you want your dog to die.
Do not go to this veterinary medical center believing your pet will be receiving the very best of care and attention. Most of the veterinarians on ER duty appear right out of veterinary school. The established veterinarians, such as Dr. Brooke Hutt and Dr. Sean Hillock are not forthcoming and show little to no concern about how you are personally feeling while your pet is in their care. ER vet Dr. Brooke Hutt told me that my dog would be in the hospital four days, but the other vet Dr. Sean Hollick prematurely discharged him only after a 3-day stay. My dog relapsed 48 hrs after his being discharged and was readmitted to VMCLI. He died while under VMCLIs care. All I got from VMCLI was heartache and a large medical bill. They were not communicative with me as to who was treating my dog at any one time. I was told by Dr. Hutt that Dr. Hollick did not have the time to treat my dog when he was first admitted. After my dog passed while in their care, I obtained his medical records from the hospital. One of the medical reports submitted was by Dr. Hollick, but I was told by Dr. Hutt that he didnt see my dog. I suspected something was wrong about my dogs medical treatment, so I decided to dispute the case in small claims court. At our court hearing, Dr. Hutt lied and told the judge she had informed me that Dr. Hollick did treat my dog. At no time did Dr. Hutt provide me with that update, even though I saw her at the hospital the day after his admittance when I went to visit. Since I did not have a medical professional to advocate for my case, the judge dismissed the case. Then to add insult to injury, the ridiculous female lawyer representing the hospital yelled in glee that they had won, showing no civility regarding my dogs death!
I had to bring my dog Yogi there after he was hit by a car in October. Though I had to wait a long time, its because they prioritize The pets in need. I was always treated with respect in respect knowing that I would be upset about my dog they were very patient. Everybody there has been very professional vprofessional very understanding and very patient. Every time Ive been there for Yogis recheck, they have always known who Yog &i I were and That made it feel like they were invested in Yogis health and my understanding of everything that ray did to take care of him. I highly recommend VMCLI!
Oncology Dr. Brodsky, VMCLI had reported a high success rate for treating dogs with Lymphoma. He has a weekly chemotherapy process. I noticed many dogs in the waiting room ready for their 2nd or 3rd round of chemo treatment, sometimes months or even a few years apart. My healthy, strong 8 year old dog hardly exhibited any lymphoma symptoms but died after his 2nd week of chemo treatment. The formula was not successful for my good boy and I miss him terribly. The only option we received from VMCLI was to put him down. I wish there were better options outside the box. Perhaps dog owners should consider this new mushroom derivative that pet owners say works well against Lymphoma (Mushroom Immune Gold is one of the products. Immunity Medicinal Mushroom Blend is another). It can be combined with chemo if you choose to.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Dr. Carver did orthopedic surgery on my dogs leg. She was polite and professional. That’s where it ends. My dog died within 11 hrs of getting home. No idea y. Calls to the center are not answered in a timely fashion. Messages they swear they gave to the Ortho team to call me never answered. We told them it was an emergency n still nothing. I do not comment on the surgeon. It’s the staff that have no personality or bedside manners. I recommend you look into other emergency/special services hospitals. Unless they change their entire staff this hospital is horrible. I lost my 5 year old baby n the staff couldn’t get their stuff together to help me. The only reason there is a one star rating is because there are no zero star to select from.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Our cat started acting weird one morning last week so we had taken him to another emergency vet closer to our house, what a mistake that was. When they mentioned transferring to Vet Med LI I immediately agreed when I spoke with the girl over the phone, you could tell she actually cared. Not only did they manage to get his 105 fever down within an hour (where the other place had him for over 24 hours and “couldn’t”), they immediately had him on meds and fluids to make him comfortable. He was taken care of immediately and we felt so comfortable having him there. I got a call at 6am the next morning letting me know how he did overnight which was SO important to me, as I had been up all night worrying. I went back to speak with the doctor the next day and not only was he kind and empathetic but he was knowledgeable about everything that we had going on. He will be having a tumor removed here next week and I couldn’t ask for a better set of doctors and staff to care for our boy.THANK you Vet Med of LI.
If I could give them a “0” I would! My vet sent me there with my yorkie with documents showing he was anemic and had pancreatitis. On those documents it said he was critical. We arrived there at 12:30 p.m. and they signed him in. Shortly after someone came and got him and told me that someone would be out to talk to me in a bit. At around 2:15 p.m. I started calling them because no one had come out to talk to me. We were in a cue and on hold for about 20 minutes. We finally got through and the moment someone picked up the phone she said she would find out to hold on…..she then put me back in the cue. I was now caller #7. When the automated system said we were caller #1 meaning we were next the system put us back to the main menu and then I was caller #6. This went on and on for 2 and a half hours. Twice when I made it to caller #1 I got their answering service which I did leave a message and never received a call back. I also got out of my car and asked the attendant checking people in, she was rude and nasty and asked me if I couldn’t see how busy they were. I told her I’ve seen dogs come and go and no one has come to talk to me. She said she would try to get me an answer. She did not. At around 4:30 I finally got someone on the phone and she put a vet on the phone. She proceeded to tell me that they were going to need to wait until tomorrow when the tech comes in so he can do his ultrasound. When I asked her if he was even looked at she said ‘no, it’s not like he’s dying’. Are you kidding who would tell someone that? All I wanted was for an update because no one had the decency to call me or come down and talk to me after they had him for 4 hours. Even if they planned on keeping him that would have been fine but there was absolutely no communication from them and when there was it was very rude and nasty comments to say to someone who is inquiring about their dog which has been in there possession for 4 hours. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!
This animal hospital treated my dog suffering b from seizures, started him on a regimen of anti convulsion medicine, recommended a vet for us to take him to, to have him treated. We made an appointment with them vet who unfortunately couldn’t see them for several weeks after the first incident, which would cause our dog to run out of medication for 2 days prior to the vet appointment. From what I’ve read he can die if this medication is abruptly stopped, and I can’t even imagine that a hospital that’s supposed to care about animals, and after taking almost $1000 from us won’t help him with a 2 day supply of medication. I did everything they said to do and they told me their policy is to not help us. PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!!!!!
Sadly, our dog passed away a few days ago. We brought him over to be cremated at this center. Everyone was very kind and patient throughout the difficult process. We even received a clay paw print to remember him by which meant a lot. Just today, we received a sympathy card from them in the mail which was an added gesture of their kindness. Thank you all for your compassion.
This is not a negative review about the doctor, but about the practices. I notice the staff only responds to positive reviews which is extremely unprofessional. I guess they don’t care about the people who have a problem. It’s not them right??We brought our dog here straight from our vet on Monday. My dog was having difficulty breathing and my vet couldn’t do anymore for my dog because she needed more testing that my vet couldn’t perform. We were greeted right away upon arrival and my dog was taken in right away however they wanted 3000$ to start performing anything on her. We rushed from our vet to the hospital and didn’t have credit cards on us at the time. Yes, we weren’t thinking we were upset because we thought our dog was dying. We were told to either come back with a credit card or apply for care credit. We had almost half of the money and offered that to them to start helping my dog. They absolutely would not see our dog. They wanted full payment. Mind you we were already there about 2 hours. So my dog who wasn’t breathing had been tossed aside awaiting the remaining payment because they wanted full payment. I even offered to call with our credit card for the remaining balance when I got home. They said “no” we would have to drive back and give it to them. I live 40 mins away!!! Going back and forth without my dog being seen still she finally says we can use PayPal. So after all that we were able to pay the remainder on PayPal. I paid successfully and then I was told I had to wait until they received my email that the payment went through. Are you kidding me???!!! This place only cares about the money. My payment went through and then 15 mins later the gal came out again and said ok your payment went through. Nothing else and the gal walked away. Ok, so what does that mean? Do we leave? What happens next? Will they call us? Should we call them? Long story short my dog was able to breath on her own, which kudos to the doctor for following up with me and telling me I could take her home that night. I was also told I’d get a refund for $1555.55 through PayPal for the money I had to pay in advance. Which by the way is what they were waiting for when we got there. It’s now Friday and I still have no refund and was told the gal Tiffany who does it is far behind and it’s going to take awhile. That’s not my problem! Tiffany, are you going to pay my interest charges too on my refund??!! You were so quick to take my payment and wouldn’t help my dog even with 1200$ down but yet you can’t refund my money. I have requested my money back through PayPal and have called multiple times. Next step is BBB and then channel 12 news and will be disputing this charge if I don’t get resolution. I can’t believe with all the money they take from people they can’t hire another person to handle billing. I am now told to call back today as I can only speak to Tiffany. Tiffany if you’re reading this, I want my money back! I don’t want to hear from your staff that good luck with a PayPal refund because you’re behind in processing the credits. How unprofessional of your establishment. Your staff is tired of getting yelled at by customers regarding credits. I don’t have time to keep following up with you not doing your job! You’ll be hearing from me again today and I expect my refund.
Terrible, unprofessional vet clinic. No communication, incredibly lazy, very rude staff. Go here if you want to sit for 5+ hours without knowing whats going on with your animal. They did nothing for my animal for 6 hours and sent us home with medication we did not need because they didnt care to take more than 5 minutes to diagnose my animal properly. What an absolute joke
Dr. La Croix and Dr. MacLeese have been looking after my cat for the past year and half, while he has suffered through countless feline herpes related eye issues. Both doctors are wonderful! Dr. La Croix refused to give up, and was even willing to escort my cat out to California for a surgical procedure that is only performed at University of California at Davis by Dr. Maggs. Thank goodness, my cat improved prior to leaving for California, and we are now in a “wait and see” period to determine if he will be okay without the surgery. I thank both doctors and VMCLI for their dedication, expertise, hard work, understanding, and very obvious love of animals.
Just came here for the first time, it’s definitely busy with what I suppose are urgent cases but the several staff members who greeted me, ran back and forth with paperwork and my pet, including the specialist vet were all very efficient and professional. They listened and took interest in the medical history. We had a planned appointment with a veterinary specialist and did not wait long at all before my pet was seen. We will be returning for more scheduled tests.
The best and most sophisticated animal hospital in the tri-state area; I have been referred to VMCLI multiple times by multiple vets all over the country for specific procedures. Their ER is great too. Staff is responsive and courteous, the techs clearly love animals, and the doctors know their stuff. Not cheap but a superlative animal hospital. Very thankful I was referred.
**Firstly, I want to thank Dr.La Croix and her team for not only providing my best friend (my dog) the best treatment for his cancer, but for also standing up for him when the hospital neglected us. If I were only rating her and her team, they get 10/10, 5 STARS!! I love them!! I could go on about how amazing they are!!!My review is in regard to the hospital. When I checked in to drop Todd off for surgery, the staff took almost 2 hours to bring him in. I never complained about it, understanding that they are overwhelmed. They’re undergoing new construction so I was patient. When I came to pick him up the next day, again I had to wait over 2 hours. I waited patiently, only to find out they completely forgot about us and Todd. Dr.La Croix was amazing and spoke to the hospital supervisor to express how unprofessional it was on them to completely leave me in the dark and forget about us. The supervisor called to apologize, and knowing that someone (Dr. La Croix) was still fighting for Todd meant a lot to me. I accepted the apology, and honestly put it to bed until a few days later when I made a call to the hospital. I had a concern for my dog who had his eye removed and was bleeding from his nose. I just wanted to know if I should / shouldn’t be concerned, if there should be any changes to his medications, and if yes, what to do. I finally get a call back from an ER doctor, just to be rushed off the phone. The call barely lasted a minute. I have never called and complained about any of this, I wanted to be patient and understanding through the whole process, knowing everyone is busy doing their best to care for animals in their care. But after that call, I was very disappointed. It felt like Todd was unimportant to them since the beginning. I really hope this isn’t the experience for anyone else in the near future. I thank God for Dr.La Croix and her incredible team who took the time to properly care for Todd. I’ll forever be grateful for them!
I was recommended to the internal medicine department by my vet. This hospital is a house of horrors -- probably the reason why they continue to make pet owners sit in their cars in the parking lot for hours. Who is Dr. Sean Hillock? He ran diagnostics on my dog but never showed his face or called me to discuss anything. And what about Dr. Fundacaro? This doctor rushes you, doesnt answer questions, and frankly I feel now that he was negligent in the diagnosis he provided. This place doesnt provide a real plan to treat your animal. This hospital experiments with meds and treatment hoping they get it right. Meanwhile, they are gambling with your pets life. I lost my pet - had I known this place would produce such poor results, including the death of my dog, I wouldve never went to see anyone at this place. The staff is also rude beyond belief. Please RUN DONT WALK FROM THIS PLACE. Any other veterinary clinic is better than this place.
Only been here once, but I was 10x more satisfied than my previous vet I been to 4x. Brought by dying cat here in the middle of the night for euthanasia (after earlier in the day my previous vet didnt even talk to me in person, was all about business), she unfortunately died in my arms just minutes before pulling in the parking lot. The staff still rushed out to assist and did numerous services anyway and didnt charge me a dime. They care and are truly compassionate and have big hearts. You want a vet family like this for your beloved pets.
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL. they do not return phone calls. Unexpected bill sent to a debt collector with out even notifying me first!! Called to speak with a manager over 20x not one person would call back. Terrible business and they take advantage of people. Way over priced. I advise bringing your animal to another vet.
I was impressed with the internal medicine specialist Dr. Nick Parente and I felt he really listened to my concerns about my senior dogs health issues. He was thorough and came up with treatment options to address my pups multiple issues. I also received a detailed report that evening via email.
They saved my ferret’s life- I highly recommend for those with animal medical emergencies. Quick, responsive and zero attitude when time was of the essence. Dr. Poniatowski explained everything in depth and made sure we knew what was happening at all times, and worked with us through giving us many options for what we could do.
I was actually recommended this hospital. My poor dog has a really bad tumor/eye infection OR SOMETHING THEY WONT CALL BACK. So i have no idea. I took her in as an emergency and they ran tests and sent her home, with her eye shut and in pain. Now 4,800 dollars later, they took a scan and a biopsy two weeks ago. My dog has a cone and cannot see. The doctor had told me it would take 3 to 5 days to find out. They said its “probably cancer and the eye has to be taken out” BEFORE they ran the tests. Yes, i freaked out. And now, after the fact, they will not give me the results, i get that the doctor is busy, but after 5,000$ i dont have and two weeks passed my dog is now acting sick and the doctor still wont call me back. I call and leave messages and my phone number every day. Im scared im going to lose my dog. If anyone has any other vet hospital recommendations please come my way. UPDATE; My dog did not make it and now i am 6000 in debt
My dog had an allergic reaction to her rabies vaccination after my regular vet had closed. Every person we spoke to at VMCLI was professional, and SO patient, answering all my questions - some of which Im sure I asked more than once because I was so nervous for my girl. Dr. Dayna was excellent! Again, she took great care of my pup, rechecked her before we left, and answered all my questions. They made a difficult situation MUCH easier to handle.
I went for an oncology consult for my dog and everyone was very kind and informative. They are working hard over there doing curbside. Great people work there, from those coming out to ask questions about the pet, to the people who take payment, to the person checking everyone in, the vet techs and Assistants, and the doctors!
I took my 10 year old cat here when her regular vet detected a heart murmur that she had no medical history of. The cardiology team at VMCLI did a wonderful job diagnosing her and putting me at ease about her condition. Overall the experience was positive, however in the time leading up to the appointment it was challenging to get ahold of reception and get clear answers about what was needed from me for the appointment. Even confirming the appointment had to be initiated by me. Minus the communication challenges I was very happy with the care my cat received here.
I was seen by another emergency vet clinic today who told me my dog needed to have emergency surgery on his eye which they were unable to do at their clinic so they referred me here. This place actually told me that the first availability to see the ophthalmologist isn’t until November!!!! That is over 2 months away!!! What vet can’t get you in earlier than 2 months when you tell them your pet needs to have emergency surgery? Absolutely ridiculous.
I went to this animal hospital because i was referred by my pups vet after she had just received a head injury from jumping off the sink… Long story short they charged us $1,000 to have her stay overnight even though the whole purpose of bringing her was for her to see the neurologist but they insisted she should stay till morning so she could see the neurologist. She stayed overnight and in the morning I went back and the neurologist spoke with me, we had a couple of chats over the phone and eventually agreed upon doing x-rays on my puppy because I was not approved for care credit and they wouldn’t mention anything about a different payment plan. They would rather get paid than save a puppy’s life. If i would’ve known they’d be so expensive, I would’ve just taken her somewhere where they can work out a payment plan with me and actually give my puppy a chance. They claimed she was hurt with a bat and took her away from us. Never coming back here, save your money and do your research.
Dear Dr. Fondacaro,Let me begin by saying you and your “other” staff members have always been very empathetic and courteous. However; On May 20 2021 I arrived at VMCLI to bring my pet Yorkie Bailey Velazquez for a referred visit by my family veterinarian Dr. Marlow. Upon arrival he was brought in to see an internal medicine Dr. Sean Hillock. Shortly after I received a call from Dr. Hillock in a very condescending tone, asking me “What is it that you need from me” I replied I was referred to you by my Vet to follow up with a consultation with the disc I provided with Bailey’s results” . He proceeded to question what I needed and read reports and continued with “mmhmm mmmhmm uhuh” I asked if he would read the CD that was provided so that he could maybe see something the Vet could not see. And his reply was he “didn’t have to because he is reading the report.” He continued to question what the reason for my visit was and what was he “supposed to do about it.” He was very patronizing and made me feel that my visit was a nuscence to him. He also stated “He has an enlarged prostate because you never neutered him.” “So what do you want to do” By the end of the conversation I was in tears. There was zero compassion in his tone and I was devastated by his deminure. He had the audacity to ask me if my dog had a urine culture and then asked me to call the vet to find out. He continued to say “ I don’t know what you want me to do” Mind you my Yorkie is almost 17 years old was told to fast nothing after midnight no food or water. I called the office several times asking the purpose of the fasting and they said they may need to do another ultra sound or other tests and its best for his stomach to be empty. SO nothing was accomplished by this visit medicine was given with no explanation other than to tell me “I will put him on medication but its not going to work until a couple of months from now”He executed unprofessional behavior that should not be tolerated I an environment such as an animal hospital. With better communication skills and empathy, providers are ultimately supposed to improve understanding and reduce errors. How providers interact with patients, through their tone, body language, and actions, has a major effect on the patients overall experience and understanding of their pet’s condition. Since everything is done over the phone I feel it is even more imperative that there be some sort of empathy and professionalism, when speaking to the pet owner. I have been to VMCLI on several occasions and never have I ever been treated so poorly.I still have no answers to what action plan I have towards the care of my Bailey. I am utterly disappointed and at a loss of words from the mistreatment and waste of time.Sincerely and disappointedAnissa Velazquez
My cat has been a patient of VMCLI doctor, Dr. Brodsky (who I love) for a year and a half since he was diagnosed with small cell lymphoma. Recently, my cat developed painful lesions in his mouth and later on his body which resulted in a medical emergency. The staff at VMCLI took great care of my baby and he is now home and being fed via e-tube until he is completely healed and comfortable enough to eat on his own. His internal medicine doctor, Dr. Parente, is wonderful. He is very informative, easy to speak with and keeps in touch. Dr. Katz who assisted in Nigels care was the same. The staff was very helpful, patiently taught me how to use the tube and ordered an extra collar for me at my request. As a patient who has been coming to VMCLI for some time now, I have experienced some of the phone issues others have complained about during this pandemic, but they seem to have resolved as of late. With regards to cost, yes, it is definitely more expensive than a regular veterinary office but no more so than any other 24 hour 7 days a week emergency hospital of its size and staffing. This is where Nigels pet insurance has been a life saver. I would highly recommend getting insurance to anyone who has room in their budget for the monthly premiums.
I brought my pet to them paid my bill in full before I left. I keep getting letters in the mail saying they are going to put me into collections for services I never received. I called once they said they took care of it. I now received another notice and have to get back one the phone and waste my time to correct their problem whichis now mine. Better off going somewhere that properly keeps their billing in order. Probably some kind of scam to get more money out of you
I have 2 teacup Yorkies that have chronic Illness that we need internal medicine specialists to oversee their care . We live in New Jersey and travel over 2 hours each way over the god forsaken GWB to see Dr. Sean Hillock. Thanks to his expertise and compassion one of my yorkies has beat the odds and is living almost 3 years post diagnosis from a disease that takes most within 6 months. I trust no other Doctor or facility to take care of my fur babies Thank you to the entire staff for your hard work and compassion.
I went there because my guinea pig had a skin issue that I was concerned about. She was taken in, then received a call by a Dr Vecchione. She asked a few questions then told me she would give me a call in about a 1/2 hour. After an hour I called. She got on the phone and basically told me she don’t know anything and needs the “exotic” vet to look at her. She told me she don’t know when that will be. I explained that i had 2 children in the car with me, I am a nurse and had work later in the day and asked if there was any way it could be looked at and give the necessary meds needed. She basically told me too bad, oh well. So I could be sitting in a parking lot waiting for hours with no end in sight? Her attitude was nasty, uncaring and unprofessional. I ended up taking my animal back without being seen by a real Vet. Why are you a Dr if you have no clue what to do??. I wasted 3 hours without even having my animal seen. I will never recommend this place.
Just brought my cat there to be seen for a possible ear hemotoba. Shes in severe pain. I was told there was a 3-4 hour wait. I was also told that any animal that came in while I waited took precedence over my cats issue. I cannot believe I was just turned away from an animal hospital. Extremely unprofessional. Will never come here again.
We have been to your specialty hospital many times for office visits, surgeries, and emergencies. The night of 1/14/21, we were coming to your hospital for an emergency with our cat that was under care for an aggressive cancer. Upon arrival to the hospital, someone came over to the car with a form to fill out as we were filling out the form someone came out for our license. Next someone came out to get our cat to take into the hospital to have the doctor evaluate our cat.The doctor was Dr Alexander Kim that evaluated our cat Tia. Dr Kim called us to tell us his findings, as soon as he began to speak, you could hear the compassion in his voice. His evaluation was concise with every detail that we already knew about our cat. My sister and I were amazed how quickly from one evaluation of our cat without any testing that an emergency room doctor knew exactly what was going on. The details of our cat were given with insight and empathy as we listen, he knew everything about our cat Tia with one short exam. This is an extremely astute doctor. We knew driving to the hospital this could be the night we have to make a difficult decision. Of course, in a perfect world we would have a planned time for everything with someone we feel comfortable with for euthanasia, but these new symptoms came on quickly after regular veterinarian’s hours. Dr Kim confirmed what we already thought on the way to the hospital, Tia condition was grave, and every minute was critical even with that he put no pressure on us. He told us that we could talk about what his finding were, and he would call us back. When Dr Kim called us back, we made our decision to euthanize our beloved Tia. Dr Kim confirmed that he felt that was best for Tia as well. After we made the decision, he asked us if we have been through a euthanasia before as he proceeded to explain what we were going to experience with it. We have never had a veterinarian explain what we were going to see during the process of euthanasia. Unfortunately, we have been through euthanasia before, but this euthanasia seemed different. You would think why was this one different and how was this one different? Well, it was Dr Kim his gentle and kind manner made a difference to us and our beloved Tia. This was the most peaceful euthanasia we experienced. Dr Kim is extremely intelligent compassionate doctor. We went to the hospital hoping for the best or some positive resolution unfortunately we did not get the result we wanted but, Dr Kim was instrumental in making us feel at peace with our difficult decision. People want to blame the doctors for not saving the animals, but some animals are too sick and cannot be saved and that is not the doctors’ fault. We hope that he never changes his kindhearted ways in which he treats the animals and the clients. Dr Kim made a difference to us in an incredibly sad situation. We would like you to recognize him for his brilliance in his evaluation, his kindness with our beloved Tia and with my sister and I. He was born to do this, he is well balanced, he offers perfect amount of brilliance and compassion for the patient and the patients’ owner.Dr Kim was exceptional, brilliant, kind and caring!!! That night he made a difference, and he needs to know!!We have had other experiences with other magnificently kind caring doctors that have helped us in the past Dr La Croix and Dr Carver!!! Two absolutely gifted talented brilliant doctors!!!Thank you for a wonderful specialty hospital full of brilliant doctors to serve the community. We are extremely grateful to these doctors for all they do every day for all those they serve.
My wife and I just got back home from the VMCLI. We brought our little piggy (Guinea Pig) there because he suddenly fell very ill. Unfortunately by the time we arrived he had already passed. The team at VMCLI quickly took him in to verify his status and offered a number of options. Once they confirmed that he had moved on they not only didnt charge us for the bad news but sent us home with his paw prints pressed into a small ceramic plaque as a remembrance. Its always sad to lose a friend but VMCLI made it as easy to deal with as possible. Thank you all for your professionalism, sympathy and most of all for simply being kind to us during a rough time. Ive never felt the need to write a review immediately after leaving a place but as they say, theres a first time for everything. If you have little loved ones, what ever shape color or size, do not hesitate to bring them to VMCLI because at the very least you will be met with care and kindness.
My dog received good attention they charge me over a thousand dollars for the service but when I received my dog back and on my way home my dogs was on distress I took her back to the hospital and the doctor who treated her never came out to talk about my dog the doctor is Keith Niesebaum it pass now over 3 hours not even a callIt looks like they are only for the moneyI am very sorry about this placeI will never comeback
We were very pleased with VMCLI - From the day we met Dr. Brodsky to start chemo for our cat through the one of the worst days ever. VMCLI was always on top of everything - They explained each step, pill, shot, action, EVERYTHING.We were sent to VMCLI from our local vet when Wednesday was diagnosed with lymphoma and they gave us an extra AMAZING 5 months with her.Thank you VMCLI!
Do not take any pets to this place!!! They completely misdiagnosed the problem. My dog was sent there because of multiple medical issues. I am an RN and my husband is a physician so we understood the problems she was having. We had multiple discussions and suggestions that they would not listen to, She was there for 1 week where they charged me $14,000 and sent me home to have the dog euthanized. I brought her to another hospital where she had surgery and recovered. She is strong and healthy now. Thank God I did not listen to them.
I took my Anastasia in because she has ingrown lashes and excessive tearing. Everyone I spoke to about her condition told me to see Dr. LaCroix, she is the best veterinary eye surgeon on LI. She was very helpful and told me what I needed to do in the short term. She also told me that, though not necessary, she could do an eye surgery that would cauterize the lashes so they wouldnt grow anymore. $3,200. I love their services but I think their prices are excessive.
First the good. The doctors are really good and the staff is very friendly. VMCLI is one of the only vet offices that has doctors specializing in exotics. Now the bad. Super long wait times and horrible communication. If you are told the doctors will call you in a few minutes expect that few minutes to turn into 30-40 mins. Recently went to an appointment, a young lady took my pet and number and said we will call you right back since they had trouble finding our file. 1 1/2 hrs later I had to call in myself to find out what was going on with my pet. The whole experience was infuriating especially sitting in your car for 2 1/2 hrs in total. I dont mind the wait but a little communication goes a long way! I could have driven off and came back later. On 2 other separate occasions they had our credit card so long we had to go in and get it myself.. Seriously, over 30 minutes to process a payment? I did speak to a supervisor and gave her my input. A word to the owners of this establishment. Keep up the great vet work but tighten up that ship or you will loose customers. I myself am looking for other options.
My dog had a 106 fever and broken toe. Was sent here from my vet. I was concerned it would cost a ton. They took my dog right away. I had to wait awhile but was fine with that as long as my baby was taken care of. They kept me updated on progress and I was very happy with the service and care. ( I heard negative things). I could not be happier. Everyone was nice and caring and answered my questions and all tests that were done was what was needed. Than you for taking care of a member of my family..
I brought my 12 year old sheltie here early Sunday morning. It was my first experience at any emergency veterinary hospital. I found Dr. Hein and the other staff to be very professional, helpful and attentive to my dogs needs and mine as well. After testing and much discussion, I made the decision to euthanize my dog. In light of the current situation where owners are not allowed into any vet practice, I was very concerned that I would not be able to be with my precious dog. I was so surprised at the arrangements that the hospital has made for owners going through the same thing as me. They have set up a trailer outside the hospital where owners can be with their pets when they cross the Rainbow Bridge. I want to thank them for their wonderful care and consideration.
This is a very busy place! I could not get an appointment with my vet or any other nearby vet. I was told to come here for my dogs eye condition. The initial cost is $126 which is expensive, but if you bring yourself to the hospital you will pay more there, too. Because my dog is a flight risk, they allowed me to park in the handicap spot closest to the door. I really appreciated this! Because of covid-19 everyone has to wait in his/her car. Many people work here, and each person has a specific job. Its very organized. The vet said that I could spend thousands on trying to figure out what the I problem is. She told me what she thinks it is and suggested I get blood work done at my vets office since the condition is not an emergency. Im sure that will save me money instead of having them do it. (They still have my dog so I cant say how much the bill is at this point. I know its going to be a lot but my dog is worth it.) Edit: I got a diagnosis and just paid the initial fee without any extra cost since testing for the actual cause can be done at my vets office.
I have (unfortunately) had to use VMCLI’s services for many of my dogs. They came as a recommendation from my primary vet and I can’t speak highly enough about them. They have taken such care of my dogs and I wouldn’t consider going to any other specialists. They have explained everything in detail and in a simple easy way for me to understand. The specialists are both knowledge and compassionate.
The communication is extremely poor. It’s also very expensive but that’s expected with an emergency medical facility. Brought my dog in for a 1” cut. $600 to clean and bandage a wound. I’m not going to go into the details of why the communication was bad but I had to keep reexplaining things and was told one thing by one person and then something differently others. I’m most upset because she was there twice to care for the wound and when it came time to follow up with my regular vet for a bandage change he advised it was badly infected and the one staple they put in on the second visit ripped out. I just am disappointed and don’t feel that my dog was well cared for.Update: My dog seemed to have also picked up Kennel cough while she was there (she hasn’t been around any other animals to have contracted it from somewhere other than this place) which my old dog has gotten from her now and he is really sick and having a lot of trouble breathing :(Also called twice to speak with a manager and no one has called back. Go somewhere else if you can.
On Saturday night I brought in my boy Hamilton (rabbit) because he suddenly became sick. They triage him, but it was too late. They offered time with him after he passed. They sent him home in a small box and a keepsake of his paws with his name on it. Even though they couldnt do much, they treated us with respect and humility. Thank you!
My 5 year old yorkie started limping out of no where and after 3 different vet visits and 3 different diagnoses later I was unsure of what to do. VCMLI came highly recommended by a friend in the area, so I figured why not have a fourth consult. Turns out my little guy had a torn ACL and a displaced knee cap. Dr. J. Carver was extremely knowledgeable, caring and explained everything that would occur if we were to consider the path of surgery and/or if we wanted to take a more conservative approach. From the initial consult all the way to post op, she kept us informed and aware of every step taken with our little love. Judy in the front was helpful and kindhearted. She took care of all of my pet health insurance needs and reassured me that my little man was in good hands! Im happy to say he is recovering well and cant wait for his 10 week restricted mobility time to be up! Thank you so much VCMLI.
Excellent Care by Dr. Noelle La Croix. Our dogs ophthalmologist moved to Florida. There is only one left in NYC and they are booked for months. We found Dr. La Croix and we are so happy we did.Our dog has a bad eye history - 127 pages worth of history - not only did Dr. La Croix read it and spend quite a long time with us - she even called to follow up on how we was doing. She has cared for our dog on and off for 4 years. I dont think his eye would have lasted without her help. Other vets said not worth treating and suggested it be removed. He needed lots of of different drops on a daily basis but she prolonged his sight and comfort for 4 years. Fast forward, he developed a corneal ulcer and the surgical prognosis wasnt great. We opted to have his eye removed to save him discomfort. At that point keeping his would have been purely cosmetic. He did great and after about 2 or so days, was back to normal. Dr LaCroix helped us make a difficult but correct decision. But wait - theres more... pre surgery blood test revealed high calcium levels. His parathyroid has a mass and needed to be removed. dr Parenti and Dr Carver (the surgeon) were fantastic. All this happening during Covid. April was a tough month. Hes come through the surgeries great. He seems healthier and more energetic than he has in years. So, yes, it was expensive (but no more than any other specialty practice) and we are lucky to have been able to afford the care.Having a sick pet is scary - these guys truly know what they are doing and care. I wish I could use them in place of my regular vet.Things to know: they are responsive, we always received a call back. They called right after both surgeries to let us know he was ok, and every morning at 8am the Drs called to give a status update.
Very knowledgeable and attentive staff. Theyve taken excellent care of my pets in emergency situations. A bull terrier who ate some brillo pads (why, Gertie?), and most recently my little cat, Eli, who had a urinary blockage that almost killed him 😹 I wish they were less expensive but Im glad theyre around for my sweet animals.
I went there with my cat howling in pain. They were extremely organized, as they meet you in the parking lot. It was a very bust Saturday night for them. Everyone was completely compassionate. after they took my cat , we waited only 20 minutes for them to call with a diagnosis .My cat ended up having a blockage that needed to be cleared and he had to stay there over night. Altho it was pricey, id go there again in a second if I had to.
My dog was attacked by another dog and got his eye mangled. I was instructed to come in immediately just to be told that my puppy needed his eye removed but they are unable to do it and that I need to find another place.I am from out of town and asked them if they knew any places. They gave me a list however none of the people on the list had an ophthalmology department. I had to call around town to find someone that can help my dog while trying to remain calm. I understand that they were at capacity but I should not have been told to come in if they couldn’t help, and for god sake have some more compassion and actually help by at least directing me to the right place.
Recently had to euthanize my dog here who had gone through chemotherapy treatment for Lymphoma for 9 months. It was a very emotional day, the outside arrangements for owners to spend time with their dog and keep the staff safe were honestly beautiful, and I liked it much better, since my dog is anxious and likes to be outside. Dr. Wharton was very compassionate, and It was the most peaceful parting. I really appreciate all of the staff, It was very busy the day I was there but they handled everyone in a timely fashion and let us take our time. Thank you all so much.
I found this place through a referral from another vet since I needed a exotic vet for my ferrets. This place is an hour away from me, but I would make that drive every time. I am dealing with Dr. Melrose and hes been awesome. Caring, responsive, professional, and honest. Very up front about finances and never felt like he was making any decisions for us, wich is important so you dont feel like theyre spending your money. The staff has been helpful and very informative and they were all extremely considerate when my ferrets cancer proved to be too far along to help her much more in this world.Would recommend their exotic and surgical departments to anyone who needs those services!
Everybody there was nice, but I waited 2 hours for my gerbil to be seen and another 2 hours to euthanize him. I waited over 45 minutes for his body back. None of the cars that were there were there when I got there, people that got there a long time after me were discharged while I waited. I work at an emergency animal hospital and this has never happened to any of our clients, no matter how busy we are, euthanasia’s come first. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because of how nice the staff was. Everything else was traumatic. It was awful to wait 4 hours with him in the hospital. They had him in the back for 2 hours before they called me, I called twice asking what was going on before the doctor called me. I really want to recommend going here because of the staff but honestly don’t, just because the wait is insane and they don’t get back to you.
I was told today that my dog is not eligible for surgery.. so I got out of work early to just get my dog and spend my remaining time with her... I spent over r5 minutes waiting. Im still waiting! The reason tehhy gave me was someones dog just came in to cardiac arrest. Well that was just now.. ive been waiting for a long time before that. I shelled put my almost $600.00. I dont know whats so hard about getting my dog!
I have a baby guinea pig who seems to be having trouble with her foot. The doctors there are refusing to speak with me over the phone about treatment. The receptionist is unable to give medical advice over the phone but the doctor is refusing to speak with me over the phone. Basically they are no help at all. Wouldn’t even discuss a payment plan with me so I could get her the help she needs. And this is why so many animals are unable to get to the vet. The receptionist started getting snotty with me when I started getting upset because my animal is in pain and she refused to help me with anything other than booking an appointment
Years ago I had an issue with this place not only overcharging me but completely misdiagnosing my pet when the diagnosis was obvious to me and I’m not even a vet. The place could care less and still charged me full unreasonable amount for wrong diagnosis. After someone on Facebook posted about a horrible similar experience here , there were over 100 others commenting on how horrific this place is and the terrible experiences they had! Not sure how this place is able to keep getting away with this.
Cannot say enough great things about my experience this past week with VMCLI. Brought my dog to them last week as he was screaming in pain and became paralyzed. They quickly diagnosed his ruptured disc and performed surgery the next day. As I write this one week later he is up and walking in his own line nothing ever happened. From the people walking to my car with updates (covid precautions) to the drs explaining what was happening they all were great. Even when I brought him back twice to help express his bladder they met me with smiles and gave a helping hand. Thank you so much for all you guys have done.
I have a senior cat with a recurring health issue. We have been to VMCLI multiple times in the last few months. I have been very pleased with the care my cat has received from the medical staff. They clearly care about her and about helping me get to the bottom of her medical problem. The staff is incredibly friendly and patient as well. I am always comfortable taking my pets to VMCLI and will continue to use there services.
My baby had to be euthanized.($$$$!) They gave us space and time to be with her which was great. Over charge though because they’re a hospital even more than double to get her cremated and ashes. They promised a complimentary paw print when she alive and didn’t give one. They said to bring her back(dead) to get a paw print. Now we have to have her in our freezer because they are over charging for cremation( We live in an apartment no where to bury her). Very traumatic experience. Don’t come here unless you have no other choice.THEY ALSO FORGOT TO GIVE ME BACK MY CAT CARRIER. Staff was decently nice though can tell it’s a fake compassionate act but still nice.
The specialists are great, but beware the emergency department. I brought my dog there bc she was in severe pain couldnt walk, was crying. I had an appointment with an orthopedist in 2 days there but my dog was in such much pain I had to bring her early. The doctor charged me 1200$ and the doctor told me they couldnt find anything wrong with my dog. they couldnt find cancer. Never met vet face-face only spoke to her on phone, they bought the dog to car in extreme pain and I brought her home. I went to the orthopedist (who was wonderful) 2 days later and she immediately found a mass and did a CT. which showed cancer. 3500$ more and we were advised to put the dog to sleep. I can not believe the first doctor completely missed the diagnosis and charged me 1200$ for doing bloodwork and X-ray. So sad they take advantage of people with sick pets. They should not be charging so much and missing the diagnosis and sending my dog home to suffer. I did a survey send by them and no one had the decency to call me.
One of the best veterinary centers out there. Perfect balance of efficient, yet thorough and while it’s a little pricy, considering the quality of care is second to none you’re getting a lot of value. All staff is friendly, helpful, considerate and knowledgeable and gives amazing referrals and advice upon request. I would trust them with the lives of my animals without hesitation. They really care about the work that they do and hold it to an incredibly high standard. And their treatment is really individually tailored for your pet’s needs.
I just moved to NY/Long Island, and I am so happy that I found VMCLI. Considering I am also a veterinarian and came from a university environment, I was a bit apprehensive about finding a suitable veterinary facility for my pets. Because I was impressed by the quality of internists at VMCLI when I perused the website, I decided to go to VMCLIs Internal Medicine Dept when my geriatric cat became acutely ill. And VMCLI more than exceeded my expectations. First - they were able to get my cat in for an appointment that day; I was so incredibly thankful for that! Everyone and everything from the reception staff in the parking area (remarkably organized COVID-setup!!) to the billing staff to of course the doctor (Dr. Nicholas Parente) and nurses were top-notch professional, friendly, EXTREMELY and phenomenally efficient, and fantastic. I was floored as to how seamlessly everyone worked together. Also - Dr. Parente and his nurse came out (COVID-setup) to talk to us multiple times to deliver findings, thoughts, and next steps. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of personal attention we received! Dr. Parente was, quite honestly, exactly the internist my cat (and I) needed: knowledgeable, excellent diagnostician, honest, clear, kind, and professional - he and his staff were perfect. And again - all of the reception, assistant, accounting, and other staff were wonderful, friendly, and professional. I am so thankful that I entrusted the care of my beloved cat to VMCLI, as I could not be happier and more relieved as to finding this amazing facility. And another of my cats has a dentistry appointment with VMCLIs Dentistry Dept this upcoming week. Im thrilled to have found our clinic! yay! (and btw - the red VMCLI coats that everyone was wearing, were super sharp and attractive! First class act!)Elena Contreras, DVM, PhD
We brought our 2.5 year old wired hair terrier mix in on a Sunday morning. He was lethargic, barely moving. We had no idea what was wrong with him. They took him in and started treatment. They ran blood tests but nothing showed but he was just getting worse. They kept him overnight, flushed his System to rid it of any toxins but still no results. The next day they turned him over to the neurology department. More tests, mri etc but still could not come up with a diagnosis. They prepared us that we might have to decide to put him down but they wanted to keep trying since he was young and was healthy before this. Happily by the next day he tried to eat, was drinking water and they told us to bring him home as they felt he would recover at home better. He did - each day he got better to where he is today. Without the care and experts at VMCLI I doubt he would have made it. The care and kindness from everyone was great. I will agree with everyone, this is not cheap care but they are experts in what they do. We can not thank them enough.
This is truly the worst Veterinary emergency Center on Long Island. I brought my pet to this facility. The staff and doctors did absolutely nothing except want to charge me an exorbitant amount of money. The situation was not resolved and I was treated rude and very disrespectful by the staff and the doctors. I do not recommend this facility to anyone. They do not take the care and consideration That our pets deserve.
This place, above all others, provides the BEST care for your pet. My dog needed two TTA surgeries (for torn knee ligaments). He had one last December of 2019 and one this December of 2020. Dr. Puccio performed the surgery. Not only has my dog recovered quickly and successfully, Dr. Puccio and her team were very caring and there for me during the entire process (before and after surgery). Her medical assistant Lina is absolutely the best. She was always there for me to handle all of my questions and concerns. Also, my dog had a root canal performed by Dr. Carmichael 2 years ago. Once again, nothing but the best care and service. I HIGHLY recommend VMCLI for all of your pet’s medical needs and concerns. Your pet will absolutely be in good hands and so will you.
I brought my 6 year old rabbit in for an emergency last night and everyone was beyond amazing. They brought him in the second I pulled up and within 20 minutes Dr.Kim did a full exam and discussed his findings. He even reached out to an exotic veterinarian to figure out the best plan to get my Thumper feeling better. He is coming home today because of the amazing staff and service VMCLI provides.I am forever grateful!
Dr. LaCroix is beyond amazing. Both her and her staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive! She is my dogs opthamalogist. She saved her eye!! Also, Dr. Carver is a wonderful surgeon. She operated on my dogs torn CCL. Her staff is great as well. Both departments treat you like family and go above and beyond for you. I’d highly recommend them to anyone and I do all the time!! Please don’t hesitate to use them if your dog needs an opthamalogist or a surgeon. Also, since the pandemic has been going on, they operate with parking lot pick up. It runs so smoothly!! Very impressed.
We went there went our 6 month old Japanese Chin had seizures the night before. Doctor Hutt the emergency vet was more than kind, answered every question she could to help me and was more than empathetic even with me being crazy. They kept him overnight and the internist dr. Parente saw him and what a great guy and a great doctor its only been two days since we left and theres already an improvement we dont know still what exactly is going on but they are call me with updates from all the blood work they did. Also, I would like to say that they are very honest my bill came out to over $3,000 and then lo and behold I had a $1,400 refund. They could have kept it if they were really a shady place and I would have been none the wiser but they were honest and forthcoming. Last a few years ago our Cavalier King Charles had a very bad neurological disorder and dr. Barone examined her and she is still alive today when every other doctor said to put her asleep. I know everyone has their own experience but mine has been extraordinary
My husband and I had to bring my dog to VMCLI last week after she wasn’t able to keep any food or water down for a few days ( she was at another overnight vet and then our regular vet before we brought her here). Our first impression left us frustrated as our stress levels were through the roof and we had to wait for 3 hours before the vet inside called us to tell us our baby was on the list to be seen. Obviously that upset us because we felt she was just sitting in there for all that time probably feeling anxious. However, later on once we were able to think straight, we could understand that it wasn’t their fault and they had many, many more emergencies that took precedence over our dog. While our dog was at VMCLI for 4 days, we were very pleased and thankful for the staff. They kept us informed and updated about our dog. They didn’t pressure us into any form of treatment but did give their medical opinion on the best form of treatment. Our dog ended up having surgery for an obstruction in her stomach. We called multiple times a day for updates and the team did not seem bothered by us. We had a lot of questions, some that we probably asked more than once and the team was happy to answer and re-explain everything to us. Even now that our dog is home, we have called with questions and they continue to be happy to help.Thank you VMCLI team for caring for our baby and for being extremely transparent and understanding with us.
Brought my 6month old European doberman in at 3:30am on oct 4th with restlessness and labored breathing. I was told she had no fever and all vital signs were good. I was told it probably was onset of kennel cough and that I should have her see her veterinarian on Monday October 5th. I was charged $150 and sent home. Later that night at around 7:30pm my dogs breathing was really bad and I called them back and was told to bring her back in which we did right away. After taking her inside for 10.min we were told that she is in really bad shape that she needed to be admitted for probably 3 days. I was confused because earlier that same day I was told basically all was fine. I was given a estimate between $5300-$7500 which i was required to sign for her treatment which we gladly agreed, and we were sent home to wait until the next day for a phone call about her condition at around 6:00am. We were called at 4:00am and told she will need to be euthanized if we would give them authority to do it. We asked what if anything the exrays showed but were told she wasnt to be exrayed because of her condition she wasnt reacting well to the sedation, and that there was nothing else for them to do. So we went there and had her euthanized. Later on that day we were called and told she was given an ex-ray after her death and apparently her lungs were completely filled with fluid, and were told that the new bill was a little over $2000 since she didnt stay the full 3 days. Hard to believe she went from all vitals to dead in less than 24 hours. I believe she should have been admitted the first time we brought her in earlier that day. We are out our beloved dog, we are out $2000, and never given a definite answer on what happened. The bedside manner of the nurses are great and compassionate i will say, but how knowledgeable the veterinarians are at this place is highly questionable..
I took my bulldog to this hospital for the first time. I will never make that mistake again. Dr Vecchione called me two times and had the worst bedside manner I have ever heard. She was rude and sounded like I was bothering her for asking questions. She then went into a rant about how she doesn’t make commission on the testing that was being done on my dog (I’m not sure what that has to do w anything we discussed). The rest of the staff seemed professional but Dr Vecchione was rude and all but hung up on me when I asked her not to send my dogs culture out. I would not advise using this hospital for any of your fur babies.
Honestly totally shocked by the negative reviews. Reading through all of the reviews its like everyone is talking about two totally different places. We, like the other 5-star reviewers, had an experience there for which were very grateful. Our dog had been suffering with epilepsy, and it turns out, despite being a patient at a top rated vet practice in our town, was not being treated properly. The vets he saw were nice, but didnt understand current approaches in epilepsy care. The neurologist here and her assistant worked tirelessly with our ginormous, aggressive dog to try to save his life. He was too big for a crate there, so they set up a mattress and blankets in the shower stall for him. Even after he was discharged, they called multiple times a day to discuss how he was doing. And when he took a serious turn for the worse, which we knew was a possibility given his serious condition, they dedicated significant time to talking us through our options over the phone and providing incredible personal support. It was crystal clear that they cared about our beloved dog, as well as our family. Ive had dogs for decades and seen many vets across Long Island, and have never experienced this level of care for our pet or for us as a family before. We will always be grateful for their attention, dedication and care.
I brought my dog to VMCLI on Saturday, September 26th for some x-rays.I was given a written estimate upon arrival with a low cost ($1167, which we prepaid) and a high cost ($1200 and change) that I signed before we dropped our dog off with verbal instructions from the vet tech that our bill would fall between the two numbers listed on the estimate. Included in the estimate was even a line Miscellaneous therapies $100 estimate which she assured us was only if something extra ended up being necessary such as unforeseen necessary medication.Imagine my surprise when we went to pick our dog up nearly 6 hours later and all of a sudden the bill was $1435.00.Apparently (according to the vet tech) the veterinarian decided to do additional scans, and chose to do so outside the scope of the original estimate. She pointed out the line on the bill that showed what appears to be 2 additional scans and +$200. Yet, no one bothered to call us to ask if that was ok.When the vet tech left us after discussing and paying the bill a man walked over to our vehicle from his truck and asked us, Did you have a problem with your bill too? and then went on to tell his own surprise bill story. While I have no issues with the way my dog was treated, I do have an issue with the incredibly unethical and dishonest way that their practice handles their billing. I am awaiting a response from VMCLI after contacting management, but my next step is the BBB.DO NOT RECOMMEND
We took our dog for an emergency visit last Thursday after she jumped and sustained an injury. The $459 x-ray (5 images; 3 views) showed no injury to our dogs leg but was sent out for radiology review. Yet we left with a bill totaling $1005.00. Our dog has been described as an Alaskan Malamute in one document and a Siberian Husky in another; 2 weeks old in one and 2 years old in another. Does VMCLI have the correct records for our dog? My husbands email was recorded incorrectly and we never got correspondence nor a simple wellness call not one single day. I was put on hold for over 1 hour today after making over one dozen calls and being hung up on once. The dogs notes have several errors and I am still awaiting the digital x-ray results. We were accused of not following up when VMCLI sent the email to an incorrect address. I asked for our dog to be released to us after the doctor was implicating possible surgery, another splint (when it was imperative to have the first splint removed today), and more medicine when we still have an abundance of medicine, when she went for a simple bandage change today which would have costed us between $300.00 to $600.00, and a specialist visit on Saturday for an additional costs. Why? Because we care for our dog? Mine you the x-rays reportedly showed NO injury. $79.00 additional, later I am still awaiting the dogs electronic X-rays and still need to get the splint attended to. This practice while clean and professional looking is disorganized and designed to extract maximum dollars from the pockets of animal owners who love their animals. I have documents to prove my claim. BE WARNED!!
I am very unhappy with the care that was given my dog. I brought my dog, Teddy, in directly from my own vet, as he needed overnight care. My vet called ahead and let them know my dog was in need of care for dehydration, jaundice, possible biliary obstruction and abdominal tenderness, he had an IV catheter already in place and I gave them 2 vials of blood. They took Teddy immediately into the back and there he sat for over 2 hours with NO care . It wasn’t until I inquired on how he was doing, that I was told six more animals were still ahead of him to be seen. Needless to say, I was beyond upset, my Teddy was alone and nothing was being done. Treatment was finally started after 3 hours but unfortunately, it was too late. They recommended he be euthanized the next day. My complaint was not what was done, but the DELAY in which it was given. This is not how family members should be treated. I expressed my concerns and felt I should be reimbursed. I tried numerous times to speak with the office manager, Erin, but she never returned one of my calls. I did speak with customer service rep Tiffany.I am so sad over the loss of my dog, he was in need of emergent care and did not get it. This is unacceptable and poor practice. BEWARE
Vmcli has saved my dogs life, more than once. I had the horrifying experience of my dog getting bloat, which if you do not know is usually a death sentence. However, thankfully because of the doctors and staff of vmcli I still have my baby with me. They were so caring and understanding and even let me stay there till 2am until I knew my baby was stable and doing well.Fast forward to this year and my Carol, yes that is my dogs name, was diagnosed with an adrenal tumor. I just want to personally thank Dr Carver and her team. They explained the prognosis and procedure very well and saved my baby again .Today Carol is doing well and I am forever grateful. Keep up the good work.
I brought my beloved pet to them who had trouble breathing. Within 2 hours time they had me sign several papers for an estimated $2,500 worth of services that werent even rendered. Finally, I was charged nearly $1,500 for my pet receiving a few pain meds, receiving a few hours of oxygen, and nearly $500 in x-rays. He got so sick because all they did was give him Fentanyl and oxygen and said I needed to euthanize him so he wouldnt suffer. I was in shock and each time they kept coming with new charges and saying your cat is dying. It has been 10 days and they have NOT refunded close to $600 to the Care Credit I had to open to pay for an estimated $2,500 bill. PLEASE, DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. TAKE YOUR PET ANYWHERE ELSE. I guarantee you someone will eventually sue them or they will be caught for malpractice. Zero compassion. A money-making factory that has incompetent doctors. P.S. Very hard reaching them by phone. I called 3 times to get my refund and nothing has been done. If you love your pet, take them anywhere else.
We brought our 4 year old dog here after leaving our family vet because he needed advanced care. He was just diagnosed with cancer that morning. Our family vet told us he needed a transfusion otherwise he may not make it through the night. This location and Vet told us it was not needed and we started to discuss chemo and treatments going further. He was staying the night to get iv of fluids. We woke up later that night to a phone call telling us that he was not breathing. They stated they started cpr but ended up losing him. I would never bring any other pet to this BUSINESS. We truly believe they did wrong by us and our four legged family member and are responsible for his passing. Devastation and trauma doesn’t not come close to describing our experience. The women at the front counter are emotionless and have no personality which is the least of this business’s issues. All they are after is money and it is apparent. I truly believe our dog received zero treatment. We then picked up our deceased dog to bring him for a cremation. They knew what time he needed to be ready by, did not prepare him in time and we had to cry over his body as he was stiff and Ice cold, he looked awful because of their time mismanagement. They need to be investigated. *Ive seen a manager reply to people’s bad reviews here and I DO NOT want a reply. Clearly you are incompetent as well, as there have been no positive changes made. All staff are lazy, not properly educated, have no personality, and are irresponsible. to say the least.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! On Oct 1st my Shih Tzu became very sick with profuse vomiting and bloody diarrhea. I called Atlantic Coast Vets and a staff member told me to hurry up. I raced there and called them from outside and was assured that someone would be there in a couple of minutes. No one came despite staff members coming in from the parking lot. My dog was bleeding through the towels and was limp. After about 15-20 minutes I finally left with my bleeding, critically ill dog and frantically drove to VMCLI where my dog was taken from me by a staff member in ONE MINUTE and the veterinarian called me in TEN MINUTES. She remained in the emergency room there overnight and thankfully recovered. I called and sent an email to Atlantic Coast Vet complaining but did not hear back from anyone. Thank god I didnt leave my dog there.
The good: I brought my cat there for surgery as referred by my own vet. I was pleased with the care she got. They followed up be phone with me both before and after the surgery. The bad: They give you an estimate , with a low-end figure and a high-end figure. They require a deposit, which is the ENTIRE amount of the low-end figure. If you dont scrutinize that final bill and question anything you believe is questionable, I somehow doubt they would offer you any money back. I did question a few things and was refunded. If it would have been done without my prompting, then I sincerely apologize for doubting you.The ugly: Nine days after my cats surgery I had to go back to pick up a different antibiotic. The girl brouggt it to the car along with the invoice. $151.00!!! I thought it was exorbitant, but what couldve I do? So I gave my credit card. While I was waiting for my receipt I decided to Google. The same medication on Chewy or 1800petmeds was $58!!!! So I told them I didnt want it, to cancel the transaction and give me a written prescription. They would not budge on the price. After about an hour waiting I left with the written prescription. I was able to get the medication that same day at a local pharmacy, who would match the online price. I realize that VMCLI is a for-profit business and not a charity. BUT THIS IS A DISGRACE! They know we love our pets and most likely will not object and so they take advantage. There is no other explanation.I do, however, apologize to anyone I might have been rude to. You were only the messengers.
My dog June tore her ACL (called CCL on dogs) Dr. Jacqueline Carver at VMCLI performed TPLO surgery. Dr. Carver and the VMCLI staff were very professional. Dr. Carver’s surgeon skills were accurate and precise. June healed with no issues. It has been 3 weeks since surgery now and she continues to improve each day.
Overall experience and responsiveness is terrible. Trying to reach the office is a nightmare at times. The phone is usually either busy or rings continuously. I once called 16 times over the course of several hours to finally get connected to someone. Great phone system for an “emergency” hospital. The check in/check out process is very unorganized. The spots are tight and impossible to get our dog in/out of the spots without pulling up.The check out process for our most recent visit lasted over an hour before any updates. When our dog finally came out to us, the IV catheter was left in and luckily spotted by us. Our pup came home with abrasions under both arms and legs. Not sure what goes on there.
I honestly wish there was capability of negative stars for this facility, it’s a complete and utter disgrace. Let me preface this rant by saying this is the second time I’ve taken my dog there and both visits were essentially identical. I brought my dog in for a gushing wound on his ear around noon. 2hours later we finally get a call explaining that he needs stitches (ya think?) and it was going to cost between 1700 and 2000 and change. Having been there before I was fully expecting to donate a kidney for his care and was not surprised. Whatever, it has to be done. We were told that they would prep him for surgery and he would go in around 3 be done by 4and we should expect to pick him up before 5. 6pm rolls around and still no call so we called the hospital and the phone either rang to a dial tone or someone would pick up and hang up. My wife called 9times with no response. We drove to the hospital and were told that they have all new staff handling the phones and would have someone check in him. 45 mins later the dr comes out and says she just put the PRE anesthetic medication in his iv and would be STARTING his procedure shortly. He was sitting there for 6hours and nothing was done? We were given a bunch of covid related excuses and I’m sorry but covid has absolutely nothing to do with my dog sitting there untreated for 6hours. I firmly believe that had we. It driven there my dog would still be sitting there waiting to get stitches. I demanded that they release my dog immediately which to them amounts to 2 hours just to get me the paperwork and bring him outside. We brought him to another nearby emergency vet who took him right in after seeing the severity of the wound. The cherry on top is they had the nerve to charge me nearly $600 to not treat my dog for nearly 8hours when all was said and done. But hey at least I got a cone out of the deal 👍This place is a complete disgrace and should be investigated. This is not the last they will be hearing from me
So I brought my sick cat here to get checked out. After an hour wait they take my credit card and charge $1,300. Then after the tests they claim they need to do more tests and keep her overnight..... another charge of 1650. Now there is another charge of 150 to pick her up.Over 3000 dollars worth of tests and they couldn’t diagnose my animal with anything !!!This place takes advantage of caring worried pet owners and literally just rob you of your money. DONT TAKE YOUR SICK ANIMAL HERE ....
I live an hour and 20 minutes away from the VMCLI and I would drivelonger to get to them. Dr Parente, Dr. Carmichael and Dr. La Croix amongmany who have treated my pets. To a person they are kind, smart, professional and simply the best of the best. I recently had a severeemergency and I barely pulled into the parking lot when their staffmet me at my car and took my cats in for treatment. I am beyond grateful for them all even when as in my case the outcome was theworst.
Its been a little over a year since this occurred but nevertheless the 1-star review stands. I brought my dog in one day after he had been acting lethargic and had lost his appetite. The team quickly diagnosed him with skin cancer and he was septic. Needless to say but there wasnt much that they could do for him as it was caught too late. A few days later he was reaching the end and it was time to say goodbye. We had him put down and coordinated for the cremation and so that we would get ashes after it was done and they were ready to be picked up. I called several times over the following months to no avail. I never received my dogs ashes. I never even got his collar.
Walked out of the Farmingdale 24hr hospital for a couple of reasons and took my chance going to this Hospital. The minute I walked in I felt as if my pet was in Good hands. She was there for potentially Severe Chocolate Toxicity . They gave me a high and low estimate of treatment cost and are pleased to say my dog was treated promptly and cared for overnight. Grateful to say my Dog is home and is doing well. I am especially surprised to say they even readjusted the lower estimate because some things we not needed therefore they readjusted the bill, something that doesnt always happen!Thank you to the tech Deanna , her compassion and encouraging words were appreciated. Thank you to all Drs and Staff who had a hand in my dogs care.
The staff was very friendly, efficient and professional. We adopted Royce in December and she was soon diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.I called VMCLI to be seen by a specialist and surprisingly we got an appointment within 10 days.Dr Brodsky was patient and he really listened. He came up with a plan to help us keep Royce happy and healthy for as long as possible. In a very dim time, VMCLI helped shine a light for us.We want to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts.Nicole, Joe , Mama and Royce
On August 9th, we were referred here for surgery when our 11-year-old pup, Mojo, was suddenly unable to walk. Neurologist, Dr. Barone, took amazing care of our little guy and, after expertly diagnosing his issue, opted against surgery and put him on a course of medication and physical therapy with PT Kim Nickolas. Within days, he was walking and doing great! The staff and doctors at VMCLI are excellent. They take great measures to keep their staff and clients safe from COVID-19, are highly organized, and took amazing, loving care of our Mojo during his stay. We are extremely grateful for everyone there.
Clearly all of the poor reviews can not be wrong and there is validity to the statements of the many unhappy clients that have provided reviews. They are understaffed and will take your dog in without treatment for hours. My dog was in an excruciating pain and extremely sick and needed treatment immediately. They took her into the back area and I waited in the front for an extremely long time. I saw a very stressed vet for about 2 minutes whom did nothing for my animal. After I went back to the waiting area I heard my dog yelping from the back. When I inquired at the front desk what was going on no one could answer. I asked if I could speak to someone regarding what was being done with my dog....still I waited. 2 hours passed. I finally asked if I could have my dog back and the vet emerged from the back stating he had no help and was overwhelmed. I demanded they bring my dog to me so I could get her the care she needed. The woman in the front said my bill would be waived when they clearly did not have the staff to care for my animal. Fast forward 6 months and I received a bill for $180, for no treatment. The manager (who is not really the manager of the facility) Erin demanded I pay or would be sent to collections. My dog was treated at successfully at West Hills Animal Hospital (2 days in intensive care) for a resonance fee and great compassionate care. They brought me into the room with my pet so she would not be put under more stress in a cage while waiting. Makes sense right? The only reason to take a dog away from the owner is to give shady non treatment and pad the bill. Stay away from VMCLI. Listen to the reviews, this is a business with unethical practices only looking to empty your wallet with no compassion for animals.
My vet Dr Kornet sent us to Dr Mac Leese anEye specialist. Molly had a cancerous massBehind her eye orbit. Dr Short the surgeonRemoved the eye. The doctors and staff are all magnificent!! GOD BLESS ALL! My babyWas running around like her old self after a few days. Wonderful to have been guidedhere. Again , thank you.
My regular Vet recommended VMCLI for our dog a few years back due to problems needing specialized attention. We have continued our association with them ever since. Ive found them to be professional and caring. As long as our dog needs specialized attention, we will continue to use VMCLI.
Was told to arrive at 9:15, waited until 11 to be seen, doctor Hillock had no prior knowledge to our dogs previous medical history and reviewed it for the first time in front of us. he was giving us weird looks the whole time while telling the history of our dog. charged excess money for an ultrasound that was pointless because it cant detect all type of problems, it was just a quick scan. ultimately spent almost $2k on nothing other than tests on our dog. and by the way we waited from 9-1:30 to hear that they would love to charge money to put our dog down. complete scammers, do not go to this vet until you like burning money, in that case its great for you.
My dog has been in ICU for 24 hours and I had to call at 4 am for an update. I was told I would hear from someone by 8:30 and it now noon! They have one doctor on staff on a Saturday...Owner and chief of staff John Fondacaro how does this happen? $2500 so far and all my dog has received is hydration! This is disgusting!
So I’m usually not one to make reviews but I took my dog here twice both in hopes that we can get some answers and expertise. Personally, I felt as thought everything was about money with them which made me feel as though my dog’s wellness wasn’t in there best interest. First time I went was the ER, we ended up leaving with little to no answers and pain meds (total was about $400). The second time was an appointment which we only left with them saying my dog more than likely has cancer and they offered to give her a band over her tumor failing to mention the $75 cost for JUST THE BAND. They also added in how surgery would be well near $6000 and when I expressed my fear that I was petrified that her tumor would rupture at home and if there are accommodations for boarding until surgery they said sorry no we don’t do that here. It’s just a business for these people and I can prove this by the simple fact that I then got referred to Gradys animal hospital in Sayville, HIGHLY RECOMMEND especially if you don’t know what to do next regarding your dog’s health. I love my dog to pieces and not only do they do as well but the knowledge they all have (not just the doctor) is incredible! Compared to the possibly surgery dates I was given (not starting until July which I thought was crazy especially because of my fear about it rupturing) my dog is now getting surgery in 3 days at Gradys (not to mention that they have me a range of barely reaching $1000 for the overall price) AND they gave me antibiotics and said it’s just a nasty infection.
Had an emergency situation where my pet had a stick lodged in her throat. First time at this vet. They took her right away and were able to remove the stick quickly. Very happy with this place compared to my other vet. Will definitely be coming back for my pets yearly checkups. Place is extremely clean to. Staff is very kind and polite.
DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. I brought my cat in on a Sunday night because my regular vet was closed and my cat was sneezing and looked sick. He had upper respiratory infections before so I knew what he was going through and just wanted to get him started with his medicine because I couldn’t stand to watch him feel sick. We told the vet about his symptoms and his medical history. She then told us that he might have something pre-cancerous in him and mentioned multiple times that he might die (a bold statement to make before u even do an examination). She urged that we get multiple x-rays and do blood work immediately but they wouldn’t do anything until we paid($400 for 2 x-rays and $150 for blood work). I realized after they’re just playing with your emotions and they know animal lovers will do anything for their pets. Well after 4+ hours of unnecessary stress put on my 1 year old cat, multiple unnecessary exams and x-rays, and $900, they came to tell us exactly what we told them from the beginning. He has an upper respiratory infection. Bloodwork was perfect and there was supposedly nothing on the x-rays but I wasn’t allowed to see the x-rays (which were $400). I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that a vet would purposely put an animal through all that stress and unnecessary medical work just for money. AND on top of all that, they gave us actual pills to give the cat (I’ve had cats my whole life and always received liquid medicine because, as any cat owner will tell you, try giving a cat a pill and watch our well that works out... it doesn’t) and was told I’d have to pay more money on top of the $900 to switch it from pills to liquid. So the moral of my story is don’t bring your pets here. They don’t care one bit about your pet and only want to charge u as much money as possible. What a pathetic excuse for a “vet”. Not sure how people who claim to love animals would put and animal through all that stress just for money.
If I could give this place no stars I would. My fiance and I brought our dog there due to distended abdomen and lethargic behavior. He did not eat dinner and kept extending his neck. That afternoon we had taken him out and he was given many treats, some of them he had never tried before. When we walked in we expressed our concerns and our pup was taken back by one of the techs. After about 10 mins we were called back to speak with the vet, Lindsey. After examination and an ultrasound the Lindsey said our pup had a condition called GDV, which is only cured by surgery ($7,000 to 9,000). She wanted to perform an X-ray, but in order to do so she needed to sedate him because he was in extreme discomfort. We asked what other options we had and she responded that we could go to another facility or she suggests we put him down, otherwise he will die a very painful death. Now my Fiance and I are in shear panic and disbelief. We continued to express that our dog had eaten an abnormal amount during the day. The Vet said He wouldve had to have eaten a bag of dog food to have food bloat and there was no food seen in his stomach during the ultrasound. While this conversation continued, one of the techs stops in and says I just wanted to let you know he threw up a very large amount of food. So this DEATH SENTENCE was turned around immediately due to this Vets lack of investigation into my dogs history and a faulty ultrasound reading. I can not imagine what would have happened to my pup if I said to sedate him and take an x-ray or even worse, decided to take her advice and put my dog down FOR NO REASON AT ALL! My perfectly healthy dog who happened to eat too many treats. I will NEVER return to this facility again. This visit caused my family unnecessary distress and almost the loss of our beloved pup who had food bloat. These reviews really do speak for themselves. Take the advice and go elsewhere.
What an amazing place! We brought our dog in for an emergency visit in the midst of everything going on. Everyone was asked to pull up and wait in their car for a technician. The technicians were waiting by the door and immediately came out in face masks and gloves (it was POURING when we pulled up and they were still running in and out consistently ). They brought my dog in and I received a phone call from the doctor shortly after. She went above and beyond and was very thorough. I highly recommend this place!
The most heartless people Ive ever met this is the second bed encounter. My ID was expired.. It wouldnt release my dog then rather put it in the pound. Threatened to call the cops on me. They need a security guard overnight because of how terrible they are to people.
By far the worst experience ever! Would not recommend whatsoever. Waited for a total of over six hours. Took over an hour to get into a room, then over two hours to be seen in an exam room. Then it took over two and a half hour for the doctor to splint and wrap my dog. Doctor said to keep the splint and wrap on for seven days and follow up with my home vet, I followed up sooner. Home vet says the vet misdiagnosed my dog, claimed the fifth digit was injured when it was actually her first digit, my home vet proceeded to tell me its not a weight baring digit so there was no need to actually wrap the leg. Although the wrap was put on nicely, it caused an infection and wasnt needed. Then on top of it, my home vet said he would have never prescribed the medication I received because its more of a sedative then anything. I will never return or recommend to anyone I know. This place is clearly just about making money and exploiting those in need of services.
I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Barone and the staff at VMCLI. After an MRI determined my dog needed surgery for a herniated disc, Dr. Barone called and discussed every aspect of the procedure, answered all my questions, and assured me he would be in good hands. I honestly felt like he was her top priority and only patient. She called me immediately after, and every day he was there while in her care. The entire neurology department is top notch and everyone I spoke to, including the physical therapists, spent time with me on the phone and really made this difficult experience more manageable. I would recommend Dr. Barone to anyone who has a pet in need of a neurologist. She is truly amazing!!!
They saved my dog’s life after he had ruptured a bowel and became septic. Dr. Hein was quick to diagnose (within 30 minutes of arrival) and called in the overnight surgeon, Dr. Short for immediate lifesaving surgery. The post-op recovery was meticulous and the twice daily updates helped me understand Rio’s status and their treatment plan. As a veterinarian myself, I admire the professionalism and compassion they had in these fast paced times. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping save his life when I couldn’t!
VMCLI will not give us back the kitten we adopted from them. We adopted a kitten from here and had to bring him back for treatment. They asked us to sign a surrender form. We stated no. We were told he would receive the treatment required for him to come back to us as were in a unique situation due to my medical needs. After a week and a half of misinformation and communication issues, my boyfriend went there to speak to the vet. A person posed at the vet for half the conversation, then informed my boyfriend that they were not the vet. Now were being told we no longer own him, they will not complete the treatment needed, and he will not release him to us until they receive a letter from my doctor stating my medical needs, which happens to be a completely illegal request. Im heart broken, and have nothing but issues since we first started interacting with the staff here. Please, please, seek treatment elsewhere, and do not adopt an animal from this hospital.

2022-04-15If it were up to me I’d have this place shut down never to be open again. 1 star is a compliment to this horribly greedy practice. My cat needed an emergency catheter due to a urinary blockage. He Needed it or else he would die and they knew that. They then proceeded to hand me a bill with a low of $4700 and a high of $6400 I needed to pay the low upfront or else. None of which I could afford I had to pull my cat from this horrible place ( Thank God) and yet In the midst of a panic attack at the thought of my best friend dying and no other option they shoved a $195 consultation fee down my throat before I could get my cat.I brought my cat to Grady animal hospital in Sayville and paid a fraction their low estimate.. $749 for everything. This place is criminal.

2022-02-21I wish I can post less than one star. What a terrible experience. The veterinary Medical Center of Long Island are all about the money. We took our dog there because of an issue walking and they told us he needed emergency surgery without even doing an x-ray or an MRI. They claim they did the surgery however we do not believe them. They refused to give us a copy of the MRI that was supposedly done prior to the operation. We went back there multiple times and called plus over 25 emails back-and-forth related to copies of the MRI. They were dodging the question in the first 13 emails. I kept copies of everything. Finally I sent them an email with the highlighted line item on the invoice showing the charge for the MRI and they responded they will leave a copy at the booth. They never left a copy at the booth because a copy doesn’t exist. If they ever were to leave a copy I wouldn’t even trust that it was for my dog. Before this all went down related to the copy of the MRI we returned for Physical Therapy and it was an absolute joke. They make you stay in the car and FaceTime you while they are inside and you can’t see or hear them as they are wearing N 95 masks. I told them we couldn’t see her here but they did not care. The only thing they care about is the money. It’s been two weeks since my dog surgery and he is in worse condition than before. Remember we do not believe he even had surgery. I hope this email helps at least one pet owner and their furry friend.

2022-04-04Please do not use this factory. They kept us waiting in the parking it for 5 hours. Charged us $1300 upfront. Did not return any phone calls after waiting on the phone close to 1 hour each time. When they finally got back to us the next day, they said we needed $5000 for an MRI or they could not do anything for the puppy. They suggested to put the puppy to sleep. I picked the puppy up and today she is doing great. In March we got a $2600 collection letter. We never received any bills. They charged us close to $1000 late fees . After calling them 5 times, each time waiting 30 mins.. repeating the same story snd telling them I was writing a negative review, they finally got back to me. They refused to listen, and hung up. They did absolutely nothing, and not even 30 days later reported and charged to a collection agency. They only care about $. Terrible experience

2022-02-28Weve had two experiences at VMCLI. First was that our elderly dog (12) had liver cancer. She was treated very well, her cancer was surgically removed and she recovered like a pro! The surgeon was constantly in touch, the staff was wonderful, I have nothing but kind words to say about them. Second was only on 2/22/22...our 8 1/2 year old dog hurt her hip. We brought her there during covid requirements. We were greeted quickly in the parking lot and waited for the results. We were constantly in touch with the doctor and staff members and always informed of the next steps. In the pouring rain the staff members kept running in and out to communicate with us. They truly go above and beyond and I really wouldnt hesitate going to them again for any emergency. (Weve been there other times for more minor issues and were treated with the same caring and respect.) Weve gone to other hospitals that were horrible. This is a well-oiled machine and am proud to say Ive been going there for years.

2022-03-07My senior dog is seen by Dr. La Croix . Last June he had surgery in both eyes at the center and he is now being treated for glaucoma . Dr. La Croix and her staff has gone above and beyond helping my dog as well as helping my husband and I understand his condition and carry over his treatment at home .They have been most caring, companionate and a great team of professionals . I am truly grateful to them and can not thank them enough.

2022-06-08Everybody at VMC took such good care of our baby during her final moments. it was critical and they saw us so fast. from the moment we pulled up in their parking lot we were met with compassion and were seen so quickly. natalie was so kind and compassionate and the nurses gave us this beautiful remembrance paw print from our girl…i can’t recommend VMC hospital enough. we were very comforted and well taken care of, and my cat passed peacefully with their care. thank you to everybody who helped us in this very difficult time.

2022-03-17I have never experienced a veterinary clinic so focused on money. When your pet is in an emergency situation, you’ll pay whatever it costs to help them. After you shell out thousands of dollars, don’t expect this office to include any follow up care, and DO expect them to charge 3 times the price of your regular vet for a routine follow up service (such as lab work). I can understand the high prices in the ER, as it’s an emergency. However, when you’ve paid them so much money already, and they try to rip you off after the fact, by not telling you that day how much your lab services and follow up will cost, then mail you a bill for hundreds of dollars, it’s very upsetting. Oh, and when you call to dispute or work anything out, their billing department casually blows you off. You’re told you’ll be “called back by a manager” but never are. I gave two stars instead of one because the vet did help my pet and I am grateful for that, but honestly, the experience here with billing was so poor that I’d never come back or recommend them to anyone.

2022-02-23My pup was bitten on the paw by another dog and the team at this location was great. They were very thorough in explaining what needed to be done. Their team greeted us in the car with paperwork and came out to see our dog rather quickly. When he was brought inside, we waited and were advised on what was going to be done. They notified us that we could go home and they would call us when our pup would be ready. We couldnt be happier with the staff, the front desk, and the veterinarian at this location. Thank you for helping out Blue!

2022-06-29Awful hospital, I wish no stars was an option. Called ahead and asked if we could email pictures of a rash on our dogs nose. We were told to email pictures, and that someone would get back to us. After they looked at the pictures, we were then told to bring her to the ER. We brought her to the ER, where they told us there’s nothing they can do without a referral. Clearly a money making scheme. After checking our dog in and taking our payment they had us wait to before telling us no service could be rendered. They were fully aware of the our situation, and still elected not to tell us that they cannot do anything without a referral. At any time (during the phone calls or a reply to the email) they could have said they can’t treat a dog without a referral. They are overtly more concerned with liability issues than actually treating your pet. Now my dog has to wait another day to see a vet because after hours of waiting at this hospital there is nothing open. Don’t waste your time.

2022-03-03I had my first visit to VMCLI end of February 2022 with my 3 year old Lagotto Romagnolo. The system that is in place is like a swiss watch. Albeit covid protocols are being followed, it was a very pleasant and well organized experience. Dr. Puccio, was a very professional and empathetic to my LR.
