As a Brazilian, this was the worst Brazilian restaurant I had ever tried. The food had no taste at all, the Parmegiana came super oily with no cheese or tomato sauce topping it. You pay around 25 dollars for a plate that comes with no farofa, vinagrete or rice on the side, you need to pay extra for it. I also ordered a simple Caesar salad and it came dripping with ranch and the croutons were super soggy. Too bad I didn’t take pictures. I was so mad with how the food was tasting that I forgot. Anyways, this is not a nice restaurant.
Really Good! I recommend the Filet doree com camrado. A fantastic dish. The wine is good and the ambiance is nice. The service was great. The food came out quick and cooked to perfection. In the heart of the city, its one of the best places I’ve eaten here. I will definitely be coming back.
Highly recommended for good food with a good value . Offers the Brazilian cuisine with genuine touch. Very friendly service. Congratulations for neat and clean table cloths. A virtue long lost in big apple restaurants. Hard to understand how the official bodies overseeing hygiene allow such mess in NY restaurants where food is served on dirty tables.
DELICIOUS! This restaurant was conveniently located next to the hotel where we were staying at. The food exceeded expectations! I ordered the Bife a Baiana and it was beyond flavorful and delicious! My husband ordered the bife a porguesa and it was also a hit. I highly recommend this place. The food is amazing, the restaurant itself is beautiful & the service was great. I will be coming back during my stay in NYC. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!
My husband and I had lunch here after a recent trip to NYC. After the noise and crowds of Fifth Avenue, it was a joy to find this quiet oasis just minutes away. Excellent service and the pichana was perfect with a nice Maillard reaction and a bit of fat for flavor. Cheese bread was also tasty though I prefer the bottoms to be less cooked, my husband loved them the way they came out which was a bit charred.
We tried this place for the first time for lunch with some friends visiting from Miami (and one of them was from Brazil!). Reasonable lunch prices and portions for NYC. All the meat we ordered was cooked perfectly. Spaghetti with meat was delicious. We also tried the Brazilian cheese bread appetizer which was excellent. You can also order off the full menu, but they do have a lunch menu. The service was good and waiter was very friendly, explaining anything that needed explaining. Our friend from Brazil said he would rate the food a 7 out of 10.
We came for lunch with our two young kids. Not only was the food amazing (our kids loved the sausage and yucca), but the wait staff was also incredible. Gaspar was wonderful. He took very good care of us and he also served with a flare that entertained the kids. Thank you for the amazing lunch!
They have excellent, authentic Brazilian food, served by an attentive staff. The bar makes delicious caipirinhas and the restroom is clean. Friday and Saturday evenings, there is live music, a trio playing Samba, Bossa Nova and Brazilian jazz. Of the three remaining Brazilian restaurants, on Little Brazil Street, this is my favorite!
I would probably give this place 3.5 stars if I could. However, I had to round down because I don’t think it is a solid 4. The cheese bread was awesome. Picanha was good, but the carne de panela was disappointing - if I didn’t love beef/mashed potato combo, I wouldn’t have eaten as much as I did. The mashed potatoes tasted like it was out of a box and the meat was really tough for what was described as “braised.” I would probably eat here again, but wouldn’t seek it.
Via Brasil is a very charming restaurant. The inside is nice and elegant. We sat outside while it rained and the atmosphere was magical. The green space enclosure was a welcoming site in contrast to the gray hustle and bustle of the roaring city. The food was perfect. The waiter was very nice and knowledgeable about each dish as we asked questions. A fantastic place and my wife and I were very lucky to have stumbled upon it on our short stay in NY.
So RUDE. Not FAMILY FRIENDLY. Jan 10th Arrived at 11:55am worker came to door to lock or ensure it was locked. Opening is at 12pm. So for the 5-7 min prior to opening with stroller with infant son. Weather is 26F outside and saw us standing there sat in front of door and just looked at us. Who is that rude and mean to have a family and baby wait in the windy winter weather. If you have kids do not come here, we didnt even make it thru the door
Food and establishment are good, but unfortunately it leaves something to be desired with the attention of the waiter, after you close the account he forces you to tip him suggested. This is a lack of respect and politeness. I work with customer service too and I know that tipping is cultural here and we love it when we receive it. I didnt stop giving the tip but the waiter didnt accept and came back demanding more. Not to mention that when he left the restaurant he referred to me with impoliteness, thinking I didnt hear but I did.
We found the restaurant walking the streets. we sat down and ordered the food, relatively expensive. the food arrived, well presented and beautiful. but totally tasteless! at least the cuts of meat were good. but the side dishes were tasteless. Feijao tropeiro and it was a huge red bean with flour and onion and some pieces of fried pork, it also didnt taste like real Brazilian food. the soft drinks were machine-made, tasteless and without gas ... I dont think it exceeded my expectations. the service was very good pity the food was not.
My family and I were there just before the pandemic. Great place to get in touch with Brazil away from Brazil. The staff is polite, quick and not annoying. The meals got us in touch with our Latino roots (both my wife and I are from Paraguayan descent, but we’ve never been to South America). The food was amazing. She got a Frango Bossa Nova (because of the name, she loves the music genre, haha) and loved it. The meat was lean and fine and the beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I had a restaurant special – churrascos. Again, the roasted meat was lean and juicy and I loved the farofa. The atmosphere was very interesting. There was a live band playing and that gave the whole evening an even more traditional notion. My wife even danced at her chair after having a caipirinha. Which reminds me that they also have a rich menu in cocktails that are very rich in flavor and very strong, so don’t drink too much of them, hahaha. We had a great time and we plan to make a reservation for somewhere in mid August to take some friends for some caipirinhas and bite.Cheers!
My son and I have been exploring the city, and with Covid a lot of places won’t let you use the restroom without dining there. Everywhere we went, the wait was over an hour. Then we stumbled on Via Brasil... and man I’m glad we did. Wonderson the server (yes, that’s his name) did not judge is in our touristy street clothes, instead, he made us feel extremely welcome. A few glasses of wine, some appetizers, and desserts later, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. This will be a staple moving forward when I’m in NYC (we are from Richmond, Va, and I’m a bit of a foodie). Well done!
Stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a place to grab a quick bite and a drink. I am happy to say that this place did not disappoint. We were seated immediately and was given the greatest waiter ever! Alex :). He was very knowledgeable about the menu and pretty much any topic of conversation that you can have. We asked for a shot of tequila, and they gave us a double shot. The flan and chocolate truffle were just amazing! They had a live bad playing soft music to go with the atmosphere and the great food. Will definitely be coming back here. For those visiting, please ask to be seated with Alex. Youll have a really good time. Enjoy :)
A bright and refreshing place to sit and enjoy a Brazilian meal. Our waiter was very attentive and he knew the menu well. He recommended a few authentic dishes and we all enjoyed our food. In the summer they have a small area outside that you can sit in for some fresh air.
Gave it 4 so that they continue to try to be better. 🙂 Sunday night 7:00, waiters kept their distance, tables had proper distance between them, food was DELICIOUS and you must always have a caipirinha when at a Brazilian restaurant. Nice dinner. Would definitely go again.
I went to this place two times, the first time the waiter brought me the check for review and said out loud what would be the amount of the tip that I had to add to the bill, the second time the waiter took my card and came with the tip already included in the bill, although the service and the food was good, for me this kind of behavior is unacceptable. I DO NOT recommend this place to anybody.
We came to this place for lunch. This place was recommended to us by a friend. Well, we were not disappointed. The staff welcomed us with a smile and we felt good. The food was just great. We enjoyed every moment and we will definitely return to this restaurant. We recommend this place to all.
We called in last night and had a really good dining experience.Warm welcome on arrival , drinks ordered and now down to the serious work of choosing our dinner. So for our starters it was the sausage and potatoes and my wife had the fish cake, both delicious. For our mains I had the house special ( the name escapes me ) which was a very deep cast iron pot of goodness full of different meats, black beans and in a intense sauce accompanied with rice and veg , my wife had braised Brazilian beef in a red wine sauce. Both dishes cooked the perfection and packed with flavour. For desert we shared a coconut flan with prune sauce again very nice. The portions are very generous trust me on that. Our waiter ( tall chap with grey hair ) was attentive and engaging so thank you sir.We really enjoyed our meal so no hesitation in recommending Via Brasil 10/10
Had to send my steak back 2 times. The first because it was chewy and way over done. The second time it was literally blue in the center. By the third time I received yet again, another overdone steak. I had to chew so much my TMJ started acting up. Its unacceptable for a restaurant known for steak, to cook a steak so poorly. Really bad cut and really bad cook
My experience was wonderful, as a local in the area I have enjoyed many restaurants, but this one will hold a special place because the dinner buffet was splendid. The price is a little higher than expected but worth it. Will visit again. Love the food, specialty drinks good and strong.
Affordable but uninspired Brazilian cuisine. I went here with a friend and both of our meat dishes were way overcooked. The food just wasnt great. That being said the prices arent bad at all considering the location and the service was fairly attentive and polite.Decor was good but the table cloths were made of paper which struck me as a little cheap for a fine dining establishment.I probably wouldnt come back here but there are definitely way worse choices you could pick.
I adore this restaurant! They prepare fantastic dishes, their menu is varied, The chief cook in that place is very experienced, I like a lot trying all their food. The food is consistently of high qualtity, the attitude towards the visitors is good. I often eat in this restaurant and I was never disappointed. I recommend it to all my friends.
AMAZING FOOD. The atmosphere is pleasant and the waiters were very attentive. Even though we were a party of two, there were several other larger groups, all who equally seemed to be enjoying themselves. Ive added this place to my favorites as Ill definitely be coming back next time Im in NYC.
This place is my favored. I go to a lot of restaurants but to this place I keep coming back again and again. The stuff is very friendly and the cuisine they place on your table is so delicious. I would always prefer to have a good dinner in this place. I recommend this place with pleasure.
Superb food quality plus a very pleasant and helpful waitstaff. I loved the pallella; it had mussels, clams, shrimp, scungili, chicken breast and Pollack in a gigantic scrumptious bed of saffron rice. It is ok to just go and have a drink at the bar, but you would be crazy to; the food is superb!
Beautifully prepared food, healthy yet delicious choices, attentive and interested servers, lovely unhurried, atmosphere. A place to truly relax with a wonderful meal. I had a shrimp dish and my husband had a shrimp and tilapia dish with a coconut sauce. Both mouth wateringly good. Reasonably priced as well.
I was not expecting much from the non-welcoming guy that received us,,,, well I was right service is very poor, no smile , no words, staff Is flying by not even looking at the table if we need anything, the water is “on demand”The food is sooo basic, plain , not As Brazilian restaurant should be.The restaurant room is very nice , but they should review their standards as they want to have a better service you should lower your standard and leave the water on the table if you’re not able to serve as your guests need,And for god sack SMILE.It could be such a cool place
I just went to celebrate with my family and kids the Three Wise Men Day dinner 2017 and its a Great place, great food and very nice service, specially you enjoy the environment with awesome Brazilian jazz, but a big Red Flag🚩... I used one of my credit cards to pay which I usually never use and boom!!! big mistake I got a call in the middle of the night from my credit card company stating a $500.00 dollar purchase was recently made but needed my confirmation for approval. The credit card company asked when was the last time my card was out of sight when payments and I told them I had previously visited and paid my dinner at Via Brasil and its a card a rarely use. Credit Card company suggested some restaurant staff member couldve taken a photocopy or took down information to later try to purchase online. Next step, I called the manager and the lady who answered my call had an attitude once a asked for him and refuse to give me his name and told me to try another time. I hate writing down reviews like this... but after being so disappointed I had no other choice. Hopefully this restaurant manager could put his hand down and fixes the problem, otherwise its a shame to see a great restaurant in NYC with this kind of issues. I suggest customers to pay cash if possible at this location. If it wasnt for this, I should have given 5 Stars.
Asked the hostess for a plate since my server was missing. She told me that is a question for my server not her. Slow service, no check ins, never received water. The food was fine but I would have rather got across the street to Emporium Brasil. Also good luck flagging a server for anything.
This has got to be one of my worst dining experiences ever. Although the staff was very polite the food was really very bad. Tasteless and complete unauthentic. We travel to Portugal and make our own bacalhau but this was was oh so very salty it gave me a headache. We keep it soaked in water overnight and never have this problem. The staff argued until blue in the face that Brazilians like salty food but this was not our experience on our 3 trips to Brazil. The moqueca de camarao had no coconut milk just some canned tomatoes yet the staff kept insisting that the problem was that they had changed the brand. No!! there was absolutely no coconut milk. Also the thing that I so love of moqueca, azeite dende was missing or they had added just a dash.Again the server insisted it was there.Never again - these people aren’t providing the quality of food they advertise. What a waste of such a fine evening in manhattan.
My wife and I have been coming to Via brazil for about 10 years now. They always treat us well and the food is always excellent. We are greeted at the door w a smile, the sangria is some of the best I have ever had, and they are friendly to my 2 kids who are now 9 and 6 but they have been coming here since they were babies. I love the live music on weekends, the atmosphere is always lively, and I know I said this before but the food is delicious. I highly recommend Via Brazil.
(Update 5/25/21) read at the end , even know I know they don’t care, but I’ll still post . This is a good restaurant and it was my second visit , the first time the food was better . But at this time I have to say that I was disappointed by the waiter , did not offer us bread when we arrived as I could see others receiving bread, also he seemed like he was rushing into doing other tasks as he was more worried in delivering other peoples food,I say this is because I had to ask for my bill three times , even got the managers attention. Not sure if I was treated like this because I chose the special. But because a person chooses the special does not mean that they dont have the money to spend . I may not come back here anymore ... today 5/25/21 gave another chance but my muqueca de peixe had no salt 😭. Well this time was My last time there . There is more than this place in NY.
I have been to Manhattan many times. You MUST dine here. ITS MANHATTANS BIGGEST SECRET. Located in mid-town. Great ambiance, smelled fresh and clean as soon as you walked through the door. Beautiful decor. Food came out super fast and hot! It was the BEST MEAL I have ever had in NYC, just amazing. We started with the sausage and yuca frita, not at all greasy. Yuca was super crispy and both delivered hot to the table. Main entrees were the the braised beef with perfectly whipped mashed potatoes. Large portions, I took half back with me. Again, dinner was served super fast and hot! Deserts were flan and three chocolate morsels from heaven. I cant remember the formal names of the meals as they were in Portuguese and not on line menu. For sure do not miss this three star restaurant at very reasonable prices. My appetizer was $6.95, Braised beef entree was $20 and dessert was $3.00. The espresso was a pleasant surprise in that is was mild, not weak or acidic as espressos usually are. Super polite and attentive service.
Great restaurant, food was amazing. Would definitely recommend the Filet Mignon com Arroz Piamontese, the steak was cooked to perfection and the rice so creamy. Prices were really reasonable and when my husband left his phone on the table they ran down the road after us to return it.
Good food but the service sucked. No (or barely working) AC. Could not get the staff to refill water (in tiny glasses). We sat around forever trying to get someone to give us the check. Then we sat some more waiting for them to return the card. But the cod fish was okay.
Brazilian food is awesome. Dishes are delicious. Meats are melting in your mouth, finger licking good. Tasty, fun drinks and scrumptious desserts are marvellous. Nice ambiance and atmosphere. Excellent customer service, very attentive and kind. Wonderful place to enjoy happy hour. Real big 🍎gem.
Awesome restaurant, my husband and I was invited by a lovely couple, for so many years they have told me about this restaurant, well I had the pleasure to go and the experience was SUPPER AWESOME, from the time you walk in to the last, service is SUPPER AWESOME, THE ENVIRONMENT IS LOVELY, I will like to thank the waiter but Im so sorry I forgot his name, but they know who we are because the couple is well reconice there Marcos and francis, they been going they for so many years, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS.Thanks for the great service.Mr and Mrs Gerson.
A New York institution, consistently friendly service, good food, good value. A favorite not just for the Brazilian community, but for an eclectic mix of international tourists and faithful regulars (locals like myself) Great Brazilian jazz from very accomplished musicians.
Had our nye dinner at this place and the cozy environment was the perfect set to give 2016 our good byes. We ordered the osobucco, picanha, río grande and milanesa and no one was disappointed. For as crowded Times Square was on this evening, we can only say thanks to the good food we were provided at this place. Recommended!
SERVED TOUGH STEAK INSTEAD OF PICANHA, there is no mistake that my stake was not the real thing, when I asked the waiter why it was so tough, he said that it was a busy Christmas day, so they ran out of the best cuts, if that was the case, then do not charge me for the best cut! I liked the people, atmosphere, but I will probably never go back or recommend this place to anyone because of this. Not a good business practice. Sorry. You can not fool me, I know my meats!
THIS PLACE IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE!!! the steak and eggs is so incredible! cooked perfectly just like i asked, they listen to you, they are attentive, the soups are yummy, i havent tried everything, but everything so far is extraordinary and best part it is affordable!!! Via Brasil!!
I grew up in Brazil. And eat a lot of Brazilian food Everywhere... and I rarely write reviews... This is one of the greatest Brazilian restaurants I have ever eaten in my whole life. Amazing service (by Claudio) Incredible flavors and generous portions. Try the Fraldinha (has to be done medium rare) or the Carne Panela. Wish I lived closer.
Horrible food, my friend and me went to dinner our 1rst day in NY, we haved to wait a long time for the food, I asked to the waiter if the food was ready and he get angry, take us the food with very bad manners, the rice tasted a lot of garlic and the next day my friend and me were intoxicated because of the food, we suffered stomach pain and diarrea all the day, we buy medicine but insted of get better our health get worst, we have fever and a lot of pain, we haved to asked for a doctor in our hotel and the doctor arrived for prescribe antibiotic in return a very high fee. In resume, the food of this restaurant ruined our trip, heaclth and pocket, we made unnecessary expenses in addition to the bad fisical condition and places that we could not visit because of this situation.
Good food but pricey. Service not great. Some think just because we share te same nationality we all will ask for discounts or take some advantage...that made the service really bad. Brazilians, I would recommend Fogo de Chão..which is pricey, but the service and food are the best.
If the tables in Via Brasil could talk (well, a few of them can) they’d tell stories about long and memorable Cariocan meals that were so much fun, with such flavorful food, and the coolest live music, all based upon the most perfect and poignant caipirinhas anywhere north of Copacabana.Don’t waste time with too much reading, just go to the heart of Manhattan’s Brazilian street at 34 West 46th and ask for Dante, the managing producer/director of the very intimate scene, to help you plan your repast. The entire staff at Via Brazil is fearlessly alert, smart, well trained, intelligent, lucky, and helpful. They will be your most respectful friends.Strongly suggest you order caipirinhas and a selection of traditional appetizers for all who can enjoy them. After the fourth caipirinha , ask them to leave out the sugar. The fabled feijoada is celebrative with black beans for the Moors, white rice for the Christians, smoked and jerked pork for the unwanted cuts that only slaves ate, green collards for the jungle, orange oranges for the sun, red fermented beans for desire, yellow yucca flour as the most common food, and luscious red and yellow peppers for sex.Feijoada is the national dish of Brazil, an Via Brazil serves the best Brazilian pepper sauce available within 4,818 miles or 46th Street. There are also outstanding seafood selections, salads, breads, and deserts to “die for,” plus top-notch Brazilian coffee.Enough. Go. Say hello. Have fun.
My husband who is brazilian always wanted me to try the via brazil restaurant so yesterday we decided to go as the weather was beautiful. We got there but lunch wasnt open yet so we waited when the busboy who seemed drunk started to shout and curse at some black guy .And all of a sudden, they get into a fight: the busboy starts to push the black guy. It was ridiculous as the employee was so little and the big black dude could have at any time taken him down.but instead the busboy keeps running his mouth and saying all kind of non sense: it is needless to say that it was entertaining to watch but we ended up not eating there as who knows what could have happened with some other employee restaurant who loses their calm and start shouting at people.Via brasil : giving you a 2 stars as I didnt try the food and i am sure its good but the behavior of your staff gave my husband and i a bad image of your establishment.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Food: Excellent! My favorites here are: Picanha and Feijoada.Drinks: Great Caipirinhas!Space: This is a modern and festive setting. It is bilevel: the main floor has an elegant dining area, bar and live entertainmnent; while the second level is a club/lounge. During Brazilian Day in NY this place usually is the most packed and has drink special bracelets you can purchase.Scene: Romantic. Date night. Get-togethers. Happy Hour. Singles Scene.Service: Excellent! Very attentive, courteous & professional.

2022-03-25The best Brazilian food I have had in the States. Great service too. Restroom is extra small and could be kept a little bit better.

2022-04-17I love Brazilian food so was excited to try via BRASIL which is located in little brazil in nyc next to Times Square . We got the pao do queijo (cheese buns) which were not the best (they didn’t have enough cheese in them + they didn’t have white / green sauce to accompanied it).For main I got the picanha (Brazilian sirloin) which was good. I do want to go back for the moqueca.Service was little bit weird. Not sure if they fully understood us / when we requested things.

2021-12-05The Brazilian sausage and manioc fries appetizer was good. We ordered 3 steaks and it took a long time, over an hour. All three steaks at our table were actually over cooked and we each got a different cut of meat (sirloin, NY strip, and filet mignon) I ordered a medium rare steak and it was so over cooked to the point it was almost inedible. Normally, I would’ve sent it back but I couldn’t imagine waiting another hour for dinner. The passion fruit mousse was good!

2022-03-31My meal was good as was the service. I didnt try the meat offerings and probably should have. I had a shrimp over pasta dish.

2022-03-12It was pretty good. Im used to the picanha and black beans being a little saltier, but this may match Americans taste buds a bit better.

2022-07-10Very nice, homely restaurant with quick and friendly service. Family style in that they will bring out sharing portion of rice, beans, and other sides. Enjoyed the beef stroganoff quite a bit.
