More than once I have eaten there. Food is very good, but service is poor. Usually one person on the floor that knows what their doing have seen who I think is the manager everytime, but he never comes around to ask about how our food or service is doesnt really interact with staff or patrons. Question to ask what purpose does he serve?
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Wonderful food and great atmosphere!!! Miguel, Rohan, Nassira and all the other staff are so attentive. The food is delicious. So far my friends and I have had four different pizzas, Margherita, Indiavolata, Nutella Pizza, Via forno (my favorite) and a charcuterie board. Nothing has disappointed. They have an extensive wine and beer list, and the white sangria is out of this world! Also enjoyed their IPA’s. If something is not to your liking they will do their best to make it right and make you happy!!
Really great for families, outdoor seating, and pizza pizza. Always crowded. Nice to see modern restaurants popping on Garth Road. I didn’t find the margherita pizza all that great and neither was my cocktail. I may come back to enjoy a bottle of wine outside with a charcuterie board.
$3.75 for soda and one small oven for a pizzeria is a bit ridiculous. With that said there was good service and the food was enjoyable. The meatball sliders were my favorite. The pizza was good too but it was awkward to eat since the pies took up most of the table and there was no stand to free up table space. Since there was one oven the pies took a little while to come out.Atmosphere was okay for a date night, ours was spoiled by the table next to us. Kids ran around in the middle of the aisle screaming, but that’s not the restaurants fault.Would recommend for a night out for locals who want to try something new.
Was very much looking forward to trying Via Forno since it opened on my street and so on Sunday night I finally ordered the funghi pizza (the photo of this pizza from the website I included in my review totally captivated me) and a carnivore calzone for takeaway. Was very surprised when I opened the box at home and saw that both were charred - and not sparingly in that lovely fire oven way. I will say my pizza for the most part didn’t taste as brown as it looked (except for the crusts sadly) while the calzone wasn’t spared the same fate and tasted quite burned. My pizza was OK overall. It was absolutely begging for some sodium so I sprinkled on some truffle salt (bougie I know) which made it 110% better.Probably won’t be going out of my way to order from here again
Writing this review as an advisory to the restaurant: The calzone dough was raw. Not like just not crispy, but actually not cooked- the inedible kind of raw. (Cheese in the calzone was still in chunks and not melted as well- clearly the whole thing was not cooked) For the incredibly high price point I feel it is a fair expectation for the food to at least be cooked. Supremely disappointed
I love this place. Great food. Great service. Ive been to Via Forno 3 times my first time was for valentines day and then i hosted two parties there a baby shower and then my daughters baptism. The staff is very attentive to your needs and accommodate your wishes. The food comes out fast and delicious. My favorite is the nutella pizza it is amazing and a must try. I would recommend this place to anyone and will definitely be back.
Finally after 100 something days of Pandemic closure Via Forno opened for outdoor eating. Although weve been ordering takeout, theres nothing like a hot, fresh out of the oven Via Forno pizza. Whichever you order youll be treated to tasty, fresh ingredients on a salty, pillowy blistered crust. They have a pie for all tastes. My favorite is the Dammi Questa with sausage and fresh mushrooms, my wife is a purist and always has the Margherita ...both winners.Oh yeah we always start with Tricolore salad and dont forget the NFLA Championship winning meatballs...worth the trip by themselves!
First time I tried to have their pizza I was with a friend that has celiac disease, so I called ahead to make sure they had gluten-free pizza which they advertise that they do, they confirmed so we went. Once we sat down to order we were told there was no gluten-free pizza and dont know why we were told that. Today I placed a to-go order for a pie. I arrived at the exact time it was supposed to be ready for pickup, after waiting for 10 minutes for the curbside I went in and found a young gentleman who went to get my pie. It was in a foil lined box so I thought great it will be nice and hot. I get into my car and open it to find a very cold pie, saturated in Olive Oil when I had ordered it without olive oil. Had the pie been even a little warm and just a drizzle of Olive Oil I would have eaten it. I go back and they dont have another pie for me and my lunch hour is now over. So no pizza...no lunch.
I actually had high hopes for this place. They both my daughter and I left with bad taste in our stomach. She went for some baked egg dish that was super spicy and not cook thoroughly. I went for the chicken pesto panini and the pesto sauce is overwhelming. I couldnt realize thats pesto. Pesto could be this strong we both left disappointed
Via Forno is a great example of how to adapt to the situation. Always a solid choice for good pizza and some unique/compelling cocktails, their outdoor set up really shines, even as the weather cools. A large number of tables , well distances and copious heaters make this my go to choice for a quick bite or drink. Staff is wonderful and food as good as ever. Try their speciality cocktails!
Update: The restaurant was very prompt to address the feedback below. Their gesture to offer free pizzas was much appreciated. Thank you for looking out for your customers.————-I just ordered pizza takeout from this place. They didn’t even bother to cut the pizza into slices. Destroyed the pizza trying to cut it myself due to not having a proper pizza cutter. What an annoying experience and waste of $20.
First time trying Via Forno.Ordered the Margherita and Vongole pizza, gnocchi, lasagna and the tortellini. The gnocchi and tortellini were better than average. The lasagna was burnt. The Margherita pizza was average. The Vongole pizza was tasty but they really skimped on the clams. The pies were small. The pasta portions were also small. Thought they were appetizer portions. Overall, not worth the $20 plus for each.
Was visiting friends in the area (October 2019) and had dinner here. Had 2 salads (the roasted beets and the apple and Gorgonzola), Margherita and mushroom pizzas.Even though it was raining and cold, it was about 60% full with good ambience and layout of the bar and tables. The pizza oven provided a welcoming feel coming in from the cold.Great service; the salads were served quickly and the presentation was beautiful. The pizzas took a while longer but were well done. Thin crust, flavourful and with just the right bite to it.Highly recommend!
A year ago I raved about this place, great delicious food but expensive beer! Its not the pandemic thats made them go from 5 to 2 stars. Its a change in management and staff. We were told that the old management team left no instructions for the new one. But I want to start with something positive! The food is still fresh and delicious, superb meatballs and creative pizzas. However ... we went as a group of 13 with a reservation last Sunday. They had no idea we were coming, even though wed confirmed it. Every time, no exaggeration, that my brother asked for a drink on the menu they were out of an ingredient to make it - not even mimosas. And the lack of ingredients continued to the food. No pancakes at brunch! What!? I dont think there was anything on either the lunch or the brunch menu that wasnt missing at least one item listed on the menu as belonging to that dish! Why oh why wouldnt some staff member run to the grocery store to pick up some essentials like orange juice or even a jar of capers?? Or why not give a completely different menu based on available ingredients? As much as I enjoyed my salmon topped pizza, (despite it being distatefully burnt on half) I truly missed the capers!! Then, the bill came and we still had problems, mis-charged items and despite the considerable inconvenience that each of us experienced missing part of the recipe in almost every dish, not one discount off the rather high prices.Ill end on a positive note, the staff really did try. Beyond the expected apologies, they were attentive and efficient, food came fairly quickly for this large a group, dishes were cleared and drinks were re-filled. I truly hope this place can come back to its former high standard.
We have been here twice. Both times our family of four has been seated in the back by the bathroom. Both times the service was slow and seemed to forget about us, the food was mediocre, and they messed up something about our order. This time it was We made the wrong dish. Here, have this one nobody wants on the house while you wait for us to make what you asked for. Our meal, before tip, came to $100. Thats with no drinks and a shared salad among us all. Thats too pricey a meal for this level of food and service. Consider this place for drinks or maybe pizza takeout, but steer clear of it as a family dinner option.
They are overpriced to begin with, and then I was disappointed to see that the final charge on my Amex was five dollars higher than the amount I had signed for (including the tip). That’s wrong in principle. There are better restaurants in the area to spend $100-200 for a family dinner.
Updated review: Have lived in the Scarsdale area for most of my life, this *was* hands down the best pizza place in the area. However, service and quality has gone down hill. Manager used to meet and greet guests, waitstaff is now rude and curt, pizza is constantly soggy. You guys became a fan favorite as a big upgrade to the 7-11 that used to occupy the space but we are not going to be as quick to return now.
Great place for lunch. Fresh salads, great pizzas and paninis, amazing veggie sides. Highly recommend the roasted carrots! The food makes this Italian very happy and I am very picky about eating Italian. Great staff. My husband & I plan on making Via Forno our spot for lunch and dinner.
Very expensive but high quality food. I went to watch a friend perform at the Sunday Brunch in the outside patio in the spring. The food was fine and I had enough left to take home. The performance was great but the service didn’t come around often enough to help me get cheese/water. With a restaurant this expensive I would have expected a bit more attentiveness.
Truly a mixed bag of a review. The Pros: amazing pizza and a beautiful space. The one with the hot honey is a nice touch. The Cons:The service was horrendous. My wife, daughter and I had dinner there last night and ordered a salad and pizza for us and pasta for our daughter. Like I said above, pizza is stellar “high end” pizza and reminded me of what I get when in Parma. The Caesar salad was beyond too lemony and came out with our pizza even though we said “we will start with the salad...”. So our pizza was basically cold by the time we got to it. We should have sent it back but didn’t want it sitting under a warmer for 15 min.The oddest thing is our daughter’s penne was undercooked, hard, mostly raw, and came out about 20 minutes after our food!Dear all restaurant owners, kids food should come out first. This is a universal truth.Anyway, we saw another table sending the pasta back for their kids too. Since we didn’t want to wait another 20 min for uncooked food, we got her a cheese pizza instead, which she loved. They did take pasta and the kids pizza of the bill, as they should have, however, they really need to fix service and kitchen timing. We watched what appears to be an owner/manager constantly walking around, talking to no one. No one other than our waitress came over and apologized for the food issue. What is that guy doing walking around aimlessly? Sort out your cooks and service! We will give it another try only because the pizza is so good in a month or so and hope they sort out the basics of restaurant ownership in the mean time. One last thing... customers shouldn’t have to beg for water refills. Put a water pitcher in the aimless roamer’s hand maybe?
It was the first time my family and I had dinner at via forno. We drive by all the time, so we thought we’d give it a try. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. I had the stuffed shells that were soaked in tomato sauce grease. About an inch thick . I couldn’t even taste the stuffed shells, all I tasted was grease!!!!! And to make matters worse , no bread to soak it up!! Just these little pita bread slices, all four of them , that four people had to share . Where’s the real bread!!! The service was good . Not his fault food stinks!!! Well , live and learn I guess !! Next time we’ll keep driving , all the way back to Pizza and Brew!!!
I came for my first time on the 4th of July. Who I think was manager (a lady) was so nice not just then but today also and on the phone when I called to ask about the Monday special. My boyfriend and I were kind of rushing because he had to work on the 4th they were quick and attentive at the same time. Today with more time I told a couple friends to meet us for lunch to try it out because we enjoyed it so much. They both were also appalled. Will definitely continue to bring company. Our server Cort was phenomenal. He had many tables and was making drinks and still managed to stay friendly with a smile making sure everyone was satisfied I informed him of the prior time I love the pizza but asked for extra sauce and it was a little light. Today as he said would it came out to perfection! (Although the last one was still amazing). Over all the service and food here is great..I dont normally write reviews but the whole staff here and quality of food and prices is amazing. Highly recommend! Our new favorite!
The service was excellent, and the food was perfectly portioned and cooked. Highly recommend, for a good time and phenomenal food! This is a new gem in Scarsdale and Westchester county entirely. The owner has done a magnificent job with his attention to detail. This will be my new Italian spot.
Just returned from Via Forno. It was an excellent pizza. We had a margarita with prosciutto and a La Pazza with anchovies and black olives. Very well done and alot of topping. We will be back again on a Tuesday night when you can get two 🍕 for one if you are from Scarsdale.
The scampi was swimming in lemon, acidic and awful - not scampi at all. Instead of going home hungry we agreed to let the manager send over the meatballs. Safe enough? No. They were cold, dry inside not the least bit savory and the tomato sauce on top was bad. When they asked how the replacement was and we said “not good”, the waitress merely apologized and dropped the check. Yeah? We left hungry. Not going there again.

2022-05-08This restaurant was sensational. Bruno was our server and the owner Michele recommended a different style for the del mare pizza, rosa with mild spice, and it was incredible. IF you like spicy seafood pizza, which I do. The vodka sauce on everything was very good, I’m told the branzino was tasty, meatballs were suuuper tender and great, cauliflower was seasoned so well, and the wings arrabbiata were AWWWWESOME! Staff was responsive the whole night, and I would definitely come back here for this place.Edit: went back and had brunch on Mother’s Day. It was the right play for sure. More pictures with an espresso martini, which was incredible honestly, the waffles, the breakfast skillet, and the breakfast pizza. This place continues to impress on every outing. Go in, sit down, and enjoy this place.

2022-02-06The service at Via Forno is unparalleled. You feel right at home when you walk in. The waitstaff are attentive and the food and drinks are outstanding. I personally recommend the pesto pizza, the flavors are rich and more than satisfying. Michele will make you feel like you are part of his family within seconds of your first interaction with him. I’m so glad I live so close and can come here often, though if I did live further, I would make the trip without hesitation! Always a wonderful experience dining at Via Forno!

2022-05-02Absolutely an amazing restaurant! The minute you walk in you are treated like family. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Their wine selection is incredible and paired well with the entrees and even the pizza! The sangria is out of this world! You could spend hours there and not even realize how much time has passed. A must go to place!

2022-02-06Via forno is a wonderful place to eat! My friend and I have been coming here for a while and have never once been disappointed. Michele is incredibly generous and so passionate about what he serves to his customers. Tonight, I ordered the pizza con vongole and he suggested a different sauce than what was listed on the menu. I took his suggestion and it was AMAZING. Instead of it being a white pizza, he suggested a marinara sauce with mildly spicy peppers. I will be getting this every time I come in the future. We are always made to feel so at home. I highly recommend for a fun, relaxed, and delicious evening.

2022-01-17The first time we visited Via Forno we were greeted with exceptional hospitality and gratitude. The waiter, michele, gave us great recommendations and was extremely engaging. The food was amazing as well, especially the roasted carrots. Michele described the dishes thoroughly and answered any questions we had. The service was amazing overall, and the food was just as good. Will definitely be back!

2022-01-15Michele is a gracious host and makes you feel at home. He has great suggestions, just ask. Great place to bring the family and enjoy a nice glass of wine with great food. The salume combo platter with warm focaccia bread, Italian cheeses and salami / prosciutto sprinkled with olive oil is great way to start. As an Italian, the pizza is authentic and tastes great. We look forward to being back.
