This is an amazing store with two floors of nostalgic and old fashioned charm! There is something for every room in your home and for everyone you know. So much like an Woolworths from decades ago on a more personal scale. It felt like a step back in time. The store is arranged in a very sweet and pretty way with the sections and different rooms containing certain items. Love the wood finishing, red and white stipes and the bins and display boxes with various treasures! Got a present for my daughters teacher and plenty of ideas for other important people! We will be coming back soon to do our holiday shopping! Love how they have the childrens fun stuff on the top floor.
What an amazing store. Get ready to be tired after looking through everything they have. The staff is beyond friendly and answers any question you may have qhile in the store. We love supporting and shopping local and today was extra special as we finally got to go to vidlers. This is a must stop and see kind of place. Get ready to see things you wont see anywhere else. Great gag gift ideas along with so many wonderful gift ideas too and stuff for your home or the kids you name it they probably have it! The store is huge!
Really fun, so much to see, I spent two hours and I know I didnt see everything. I bought a bunch of things that I needed and wanted. I enjoyed seeing toys and candy I have not had in years. Oh yeah while I was there I saw Kevin ONiel talking with a manager. I snuck a picture.
I am a guy, so roaming around vidlers its not my idea of a great day however my wife loves the place. Endless rooms of merchandise that women seem to love. We cannot go to East Aurora without her spending at least an hour looking at all the housewares, fabrics and knick knacks. Fiddlers is set up like an old-time country store and although I see its charm and I gave it five stars I would never go there by myself but my wife will never let me avoid to visit when we are in East Aurora
Id compare Vidlers to similar stores, but there are no similar stores. It is a well cared for, customer oriented, shot of 1955 where am I. If youve never been, dont go with expectations, just go to enjoy the discovery of shopping in as quaint an environment as it comes. The world tried to move on without Vidlers, and against all odds, Vidlers won!
If youve never been to Vidlers, youre missing out! Its like a walk through a vintage five and dime store. Theres so much to see. I would probably miss saying everything they have. Theres kitchen gizmos and gadgets, craft supplies galore. Candles, cards, games and toys, fabrics and yarn. Best of all, the prices cant be beat. Theres an obviance as you walk through the store, you wont find anywhere else. Come experience this for yourself, youll love it.
Defiantly an interesting place to visit. The store is huge and has any small trinket or gadget you couple possibly want from toys, to kitchen tools, to holiday decorations, candy, etc. You could get lost in this store for hours. Also they have cashiers scattered everywhere throughout the store which is nice and convenient.
I live in Illinois, but I love traveling to new places via road trips. Im constantly researching to find fun, unique, unusual or artsy establishments. I was blown away by this store. I absolutely LOVE it!!! And its huge!!! Lol!! Not only does it incorporate a penny candy store, but it also has Vidler on the roof!! Nice touch👍👍👍
This was a Christmas gift for the whole family on our first visit the US in over two years. 2 had to stay at home because one child tested Covid positive. Customer services were hopelessly slow in responding to our dilemma. Excuses to my son who booked the trip were pathetic. Otherwise the exhibition was impressive.
I think Im one of the few people that doesnt see the appeal of Vidlers. Not a fan of most of what they have honestly, and they have a WIDE selection. Although their little soda bottle selection was nice. That said, its very big and has plenty to browse through, the employees are very nice, and its convenient/interesting to go from area to area without having to go outside again. Probably worth a visit if youve never been and want to see what all the buzz is about. You might even find something you like, even though I mostly didnt.
Vidlers is a magic place. A variety store like they used to be. You can get just about anything you want here. Hundreds of different candies. Crafts and toys and knick knacks galore. And this time of year the Christmas stuff starts to appear. Ornaments of glass not plastic. Nutcrackers of all shapes and sizes. Be sure you have plenty of time to see everything on both floors. You will love it. ❤
Its always fun to pop into Vidlers. Theres something new everytime. You can park in the back and enter at ground level or you can park in the front, on Main Street, and enter at street level. This makes the store multiple levels, while also spanning three to four typical storefronts. As you wander from room to room, you will see people from different age groups browsing through a large variety of local flair, crafting, baking, candles, clothing, toys, candy, novelty items and more! Its a fun and unique experience.
If you are not from the area and visiting it is a must stop!!! I enjoy stopping by, I love the old floors ,the popcorn 10 cent machine ,and overall charm of the place. Fun place for the whole family! Kids will love the toy selection and candy selection which by the way is still in its original location.
Larger than it looks. Classic old store. If you are looking for unusual knick knacks, this is the place. The variety of goods was amazing. Pricing was reasonable. Plan for an hour just to makr sure you dont miss anything.Lots of helpful and friendly staff.Worth a stop for a throwback to pre-Walmart days.
Its like stepping back in time! First off, allot yourself at least 2 hours when you venture thru the doors. We came 40mins before closing and we didnt get to see it all which was a bummer! This place is like going back 75 years--they have everything including a vintage popcorn machine, penny candy and just about everything from A-Z. Its truly worth your time to stop in if youre ever in the area!
A kitschy old school 5 & dime that brings you into a time warp from yesteryear. It reminds me a little of Philadelphia Sales in Binghamton in my formative years, only much classier. Excellent selection of knickknacks, toys, local gifts, kitchen gadgets, unique rare bottles of pop, and candy.
Visiting Vidlers was an annual tradition for Christmas. We would come other times when were were in town, but always small business Saturday. This year we were turned away do to my medical condition. I am saddened by this experience and will not be visiting again. #Notfacefriendly
Really an Interesting store. you can look around forever and the things from back in the day, especially the weird little toys and cool candy are plentiful. My only complaint is that they are very overpriced, wanted $10 for a small metal airplane toy about 2 inches long that was really just something youd set on a shelf.
Crazy big place! Each room leading into the next, you could get lost in there! Well organized into departments without feeling like a department store. There is a long set of stairs to go up for the most selection. I didnt see another way to get up there for the disabled.
Where else can you get a hackey sack, hot sauce, a calendar, a Newtons Cradle, notebooks, popcorn, and 5 dinosaur cookie cut out shapes in the same place?5 stars. Its a little cramped, but it doesnt take away any stars. The only big problem is that it isnt closer to my house.
This whimsical, fun and nostalgic jewel of the neighborhood is like nowhere else in the world. When visiting East Aurora take a step back in time and make Vidler’s the #1 stop on your shopping trip down Main Street. It‘s impossible not to smile from ear to ear after spending a few minutes in here rummaging through the vintage and novelty items. Vidler’s is a nationally recognized, family owned and run 5 and 10 store. They have been open for over 90 years and the store has also been the backdrop of some made for tv movies. The inside and exterior are very retro and have a 1960’s vibe.I would suggest that you block out at least an hour for your visit to go through the large space and all the wares. They opened in the 1930’s they have expanded several times so the store itself is huge, taking over 4 storefronts and has 2 floors.Right away you will notice this is a one of a kind place that has something fun for everyone. When approaching Vidler’s you can’t miss the red and white awning and the large scale figure “Vidler on the Roof”. I remember coming as a child and the essence of the store and product offering is the same. It has been carefully maintained throughout the years. Upon entering you will notice Vidler’s is well organized and set up like a department store with unique product offerings. They have a variety of nostalgic, seasonal and modern items including games, toys, crafts, kitchen, garden, home goods and candies. Make sure to have a dime on hand for the popcorn vending machine.I love the candy, specialty Buffalo items and throwback games. These things make me think about my childhood and a time when tangible games were a thing before technology took over. If you have little ones and some time to burn give them each a few bucks and bring them here. Watch them explore the candies and decide how to spend their dollars. They will never forget this fun experience.
Awesome place with so many things to browse and purchase. I love the selection of items ranging from household items to games and toys. The selection of candy is awesome as well. I love Crunchy bars and the funny mints and joke gifts too. Worth a visit or two every year as you can never see everything in the store there is so much.
An East Aurora, NY fixture for many years. A traditional five and ten where youll find merchandise from your childhood and some new things you never knew existed. Theres free parking in the municipal lot behind it.Be sure to go outside in front of the store. The village has many dining and shopping opportunities that you will want to visit. Also...... look up to roof of Vidlers and youll see a whimsical statue of Ed Vidler sitting atop Main street with his memorable smile wearing his apron.
This is one of those hugely hyped places that many people get excited about, but when you get there you realize it’s just a bunch of made in China cheap stuff. If you’re looking for a kitchen gadget this is definitely the place to go, but compared to other five and dime stores across the state, there’s not really anything special here.
Cute store, larger than one would expect looking at the outside. Nice selection of old time candy. Very nostalgic feel overall. Employees are all kind, they leave you alone unless called upon which is great, in my opinion at least. Very easy to spend over a hundred dollars here, especially in the toy area. Worth it.
The place s reputation was built up before I came but it was a disappointment. We have Dollar General and Ollies and more when I go downtown Philly. Lots of old style toys and such but very little novel or new items. However it was crowded with people buying stuff. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
What cool place. You can find anything you need or want, from nostalgic to hard to find. Old fashioned candy, games, crafts, housewares, cooking and on and on! It was so much fun. There are A lot of stairs, but the staff is wonderful about helping anyone who has trouble, and they even have a little elevator if needed. Its so great, be sure you leave enough time in the day to brouse all there is to see. Theres even a Christmas shop. Enjoy your time here, we sure did!
What a cool place this is ! this is a shopping trip back in time... all the things that you wish stores would carry still ...they have it Vidlers good prices and abundance of helpful staff, it is a museum like, General Store that has two huge floors, the most awesome assortment of kitchen gadgets and goodies nostalgic kids toys ornaments candy you name it you have to go you will be totally amazed! :-)
I love the store. I always have. This particular visit though...really bothered me. Those that have been there, know that this business is comprised of many different rooms, on two different levels. It was pretty obvious on this occasion that one the employee that followed us around just about every room in the place, thought I was a thief. The employee was watching us move about the store, using her peripheral vision, pretending to face shelves. It was pretty obvious and very annoying. Its a shame that businesses have to be so concerned about theft. But, businesses should also not be babysitting two adults, age 39 and 37, who are displaying no signs that they are criminals. We were dressed for the neighboring gastropub, as we just celebrated my 39th.
Athough I lived in OP through HS I never made it to the store until now, a mere 35 years post HS and now living in Lewiston! I found so many things for granddaughters (Maidianza 12, Serenity 10 & Alizandra 9)& grandson (Aurelius 15)that it was so hard to pick a few for each of them. cant wait to go back and look for more items for ME. I hope they have a lot of laughs with the fake poop!!!
Very nice. Had seen there commercials on Buffalo TV and always wanted to visit. If you cant find it there, you dont need it. Many speciality items and hard to find vintage items. Tons of housewares. Stop by and see them at Christmas time as I understand the place is literally a winter wonderland of decoration. Huge selection of penny candy as well. Staff very friendly and very helpful. We definitely will make a drive there (for us its an hour one way) again and again. Prices good but the experience worth any price. Great job to everyone there
An East Aurora staple and nostalgic throwback to the childhood of anyone in the area or beyond, Vidlers is always a pleasant experience. Whether youre simply browsing at their goods or looking for an unusual, little item, this place brings you to a zen place. For anyone visiting East Aurora, its a must-see.
This place is awesome! Any and everything you could need or want and some. Travel back in time checking out toys and candy from your childhood. Prices are good and the employees are very friendly. Plan on spending a bit of time there, because you will lose track of time reminiscing on the good old days as well todays favorites.
My husband and I recently moved nearby and heard about this place. I was super excited to stop by and see the place. The store is jam packed for sure but has some neat things. I wasnt a huge fan of the prices though. Now the reason for my one star, o went with my children and husband and when we hit the toy section we had an older woman who was a worker follow us around the whole time. She even made a comment about my daughter having a toy on the ground which we were intending to purchase anyways. Anything my kids touched or moved I put back as I do at any store. But yet she still followed us and had a very rude face. I also noticed a Male worker watching too. Due to this we didnt finish exploring g got some things and left. As we were getting in our vehicle we noticed this same clerk decided to take a smoke break and proceeded to continue to watch us get into our vehicle. Normally Id say Im just being paranoid but my husband also noticed these things and unfortunately for us this made for a horrible experience. I wish it had been as fantastic as everyone had made it sound but alas it was not. I guess maybe dont bring kids and you wont be followed and can have a better experience. Even though I wanted to share that with my kids.
Classic East Aurora store, has lots of gifts and toys, and overall a bunch of cool stuff. This store just keeps going on and on too, its very big. From ranch dressing soda to wax melting stamps for those fancy letters, to old school candies they pretty much have everything
Well they have all kinds of stuff....most people say they have a ton of old time toys and candies from yester-year. They DO have some great candy from back in the day...toys eh not so much. They HAVE quiet a few games but mostly current type...few old paper glider type toys and harmonicas. They do have fun wacky hats and dress up Halloween style makeup but for year round. They have awesomely wide selection of kitchen gadgets! If ya cant find it other places you might find it there! They stock some nostalgic personal hygiene stuff...like items your grandmother may have had stashed away in her medicine cabinet for a several decades...so that had me smiling. They have this vintage popcorn maker and you can get a small bag of popcorn for a dime!! And taste DELICIOUS.The employees are very friendly...and keep smiling regardless of how PACKED it gets in there. Especially on the weekends before Christmas!!Its something different to do. Gets ya outta the house. Plan to be there at least an hour but more like 2+ to really see everything...
Always a great place to visit! So much to take in and browsing is alot of fun. Have to always buy the little bag of popcorn for 10 cents, its tradition. Very helpful staff and also an elevator to assist those who cannot do the stairs. Once you visit, youll always be back. Especially great for the unique gift idea or just done looking for some thing you cant find any place else!
We came from a little over an hour away and were a bit disappointed. Its definitely not a 5 & 10 and its definitely not 4 floors. Little things like a mug are $15+. They have a lot of neat novelties and gadgets. I was personally disappointed with the craft section. I saw the spinning rack of DMC floss on the website and wanted to go for cross-stitch supplies, but when we got there that one spinning rack of DMC floss was all they had as far as cross-stitch supplies.
Be prepared for a crush of people but where else can you find memorabilia, office supplies, kitchen wares, lotions and candles and pet gifts all in an original two-story building. There were items I havent seen in sixty years! The aisles are narrow so this is not for the claustrophobic but its a fun way to spend a few hours. Dont forget your ten cent bag of popcorn!
This place has everything you can think of. Ive not been to visit since I was a young kid and recently took my wife while visiting for Christmas. She had a blast exploring the whole place and we found everything we needed plus a whole lot more we never knew we did. Glad to see this fixture of downtown East Aurora remains strong over the long haul. Well be back again this summer and Im sure it will top my wifes list of places to go back and visit again.
This is a great family outing for a trip back in time. The selection of products is incredible. If you cant find it here, they dont make it!!! There is something for everyone. Arts & crafts, kitchen gadgets, jewelry, clothes, toys, collectibles, candy and the list goes on!!! Always a fun trip! East Aurora is just quaint and a nice day trip!!!
First time coming. Absolutely loved it. Made me feel like a kid again. Also took me back to when I worked at Smethport Specialty in Smethport Pa when I saw the Lauri products. I used to cut all the chip board cut outs for the Lace and Trace games that were in this store. How I miss that job. To bad they shut our plant down and moved the operation up to Michigan. Will definitely be back.
I have seen ads for Vidlers for years and was always curious, but never in the area. Just days after a coworker told me it was great, i found myself in Orchard Park and made a slight detour home to make a stop. They have every kitchen item you could ever imagine and them some. Also lots of unique toys. The place is huge and goes on and on. We all enjoyed the diverse options.
My grandchildren 5 and 7 have never been to your store. My son was also with us and he was going to show, them something and some girl shoulder length light brown or dirty blond hair with glasses told him not to touch anything. People all over the store were touching thens to look at them because there is really no other way to see he items and decide if it is something you want to purchase. She singled him out. She then proceeded to flow us around, the store . At this point my son left the store and was outside. She was following us around like, we were, thieves or something. She had not right to say something,to him and not to all the others that were touching things. You might as well close yup shop. People touch at Walmart, etc but can touch in your store. What a way t Fido business. Close up shop if people can’t see what they are buying. We will never be back and we will tell everyone on our town what happened. We drove an hour to I wished I had got her name. You are paying her to walk around, I sure hope she was not touching the items in your store. What a way to do business. She is costing you business. I wished I got her name. She would be reported.
This store is in East Aurora on Main st. Its definitely a must see if youve never been there. The town is very quaint and restored to look like your back in the days of the twenties. The store is very nastalgic also, especially if youve been around in the days of penny candy. The store has many candy from the sixties and earlier. Also gifts that follow the same motiff. If youve never been there you owe it to yourself to see it.
This place is so much fun- Ive been in so many times over the years and still find new things there to look at. I always pick up a cookie cutter for my collection (where else can you still get a cookie cutter for under $3?). Parking can be a little tight because its a tourist destination but its worth it. Check out the great kids hat selection in the toy area, the socks, and the penny candy area. Make sure to get a bag of popcorn!
Great store, its huge. Take the time to walk all the passages between the different areas of this store. Its like many stores in one. Especially downstairs where all the home goods are. So worth an hour of your time. Its nastalgic, and a place youll find that hard to find item. Extremely well staffed, all prepared to help.
An eclectic place filled with childhood memories and the toys, trinkets and candy you havent seen in decades. It looks and feels like a place you would go to in 1945. It is a Sunday drive destination point. Make sure you give yourself 2 to 3 hours to browse through the store.
This store has items you didnt know you were looking for and items you didnt know you needed. Theres is so much of everything and the store is huge. It might take you days to look at everything, but you are bound to find some hidden treasure from your childhood here. Well worth the visit, but not particularly stroller friendly.
The family and I have so much fun here. There is no lack of interesting things to buy or look at. The location is great because there are several great restaurants around. If you want to see something very kitsch an interesting make sure you come to vidlers. You will never be disappointed or bored here.
This place has a little bit of everything. Very old school, nostalgic stuff as well. You dont see too many stores like this anymore, definitely not at all like a big box its more of a store from way back when. The shop is right at home and fits the small town vibe of East Aurora.
A crazy selection of gizmos and gadgets. Lots of kitchen things. I hadnt been here in a few years so I was a bit disappointed in the prices. They have definitely gone up. Maybe its time they loose the five and dime part because I dont think anything was that cheap. Great selection but high prices puts this at a 3 star to me.

2022-05-27This place has got everything. Older timers candy to modern candy. Popcorn machine, pots and pans, bath and body, kids toys, classic and new, sports memorabilia, fabric and sewing, gifts and even an office supply section. This place you can get lost in for hours, so be prepared. Located in the heart of the wonderful village of E Aurora. Decent prices too. Has some bakery items (desserts) as well

2022-05-14Love it love it love it! Amazing amount of items for pretty much any need. Give yourself lots of time and take some mad money with you as youre going to find things you never realized you need! Two floors of all kinds of fun (and useful) items. You may want to go at least twice to really see everything.

2021-09-24So much!!! This is a great bucket-list place. The store is so over stocked ( but in a VERY neat way) with not only nostalgic goods, but those unusual hard to find things, you didnt know you needed. P.S. Walk the street. East Aurora is a wonderful place to visit.

2022-02-27Wow what a fun place. So much to look at. You could definitely spend a few hours walking around looking at everything. When my wife and I were there they were filming what we thought was a commercial. I found out the next day it was actually a hallmark movie. If you are in the area you wouldnt be disappointed if stopping by even if its just for the old time candy section.

2022-03-06There is certainly a fantastic selection of eclectic items. I appreciated the old-time charm of this store, but thought it was cluttered & really cramped. An elderly woman who regularly shopped at these types of stores 60-75 years ago accompanied me, and she also felt slightly disappointed. Less stuff in that small space would have improved the experience. One visit was enough.

2021-06-24Wow! Took me back to a kindler gentler time I first went into Riddlers in the seventies it is barely changed. The toys the gifts I took my granddaughter Olivia in today it seems so hard to believe that 35 years ago I was taking my children in there. I believe the store has been there for 91 years I pray and hope it never leaves East Aurora. It is an absolutely must see

2022-05-25Nice scenic drive to East Aurora to get to Vidlers. Nostalgic atmosphere with friendly staff. So exciting to reminisce about a toy or favorite candy and find it sitting on the shelf available for purchase!

2022-04-22I grew up in East Aurora and have been going to Vidlers since I was a kid begging for candy. If anything here has changed, I cant tell you what it is. This place brings out the child in everyone. Not to mention that as an adult I love the unique home and garden items they offer.I have never left Vidlers without buying something that I was excited to offer as a gift or show off to friends. If you are passing through town you must stop to see this gem.
