Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants of New York in other cities:
The waiting room was filled to the brim. I was concerned that I’d be there all day. But no. The faculty operates like an oiled machine and I spent 1:5 hours having 4 tests and a long time with the doctor, who went out of his wayto explain in detail my medical situation concerning my eues. I left feeling well taken care of.
Rarely have I encountered an agent more helpful than Magdalena. Though I am a retired college professor, I had no knowledge of the matter at hand. Not only did she guide me through the world of insurance but she also called to check on whether I had followed up on her recommendation. I will probably not encounter Magda again, but she certainly has impressed me with her genuine concern for a stranger. She has earned a raise for going beyond the expected call of duty to the extraordinary.
Office environment is very nice and staff is very courteous and accommodating. Dr Sorenson is very patient with his patients. He takes time to go over all results and answer questions. I was very pleased with the visit and I would highly recommend the doctor and the practice.
I would have given a 5star rating but for the extremely long wait I’ve experienced and very crowded waiting room. I must say, though, my recent visits have improved greatly on wait times. As for the practice itself I am most impressed. It seems to me that I am in a mini hospital with all the doctors and technicians. They have state of the art equipment and, apparently, great relationships with and support from the top manufacturers of optical testing equipment.Dr. Yannuzzi is tops in his field and on the forefront of latest developments and trials in retina issues. He takes the time to explain the diagnosis and prognosis in very clear terms. He is very pleasant in his mannerisms, too.
My wife was a patient of Dr. Klancnik and I must say we were both extremely satisfied with the visit. The appointments were punctual, the staff was professional, courteous and efficient. The Doctor himself was a pleasure to talk too and he made sure that we understood all of the nuances of his diagnosis and recommendations. All in all, between the doctor and the staff, they made a tremendous difference in alleviating much of our anxieties simply by their professional behavior and attitude. If I would change anything, it would be to implement a system whereby patients could fill out any necessary paperwork beforehand and upload it to a website prior to the visit. They tell me that such a step is being considered for the future.
Given the anxiety and discomfort of potentially serious eye problems, I dreaded my first appointment. I have now had three appointments at VRMC over the past year, and Ive been so grateful for the kindness and efficiency of everyone who works here. Dr. Cooney, in particular, is terrific: he explains everything in detail, answers questions clearly and thoroughly, and generally has a bedside manner that manages to be at once personable and professional. I feel entirely confident in the care I receive here.
I am very happy with Dr. Barbazetto’s care. She listens patiently to my concerns and questions. Her responses are clear. She makes it easy for me to understand the complexities showing me diagrams and models as she speaks. Her support staff are always friendly and professional in their approach. What a great team!
Professional services were excellent wait time was excessive without being told why such an excessive wait time was necessary I suggest patients be told that there is a wait time and big time and the potential amount of time that the weight will be before seeing a professional or call the patient and advise that there is a delay in saying patients on a particular day
The office staff including receptionists, nurses, physician assistants and technicians were all very welcoming, pleasant and helpful. The multiple examinations using state of the art technology prior to Dr. Freund’s exam and evaluation was exceptional.Dr. Freund then performed his examination and reviewed all the results in my presence demonstrating the findings on the large computer screen both in the exam room and then again in his office where he made his recommendations and follow up. Dr. Freund was accompanied by his fellow and medical students and used the visit as a teaching moment. I as a physician appreciated the interaction.
The team members at Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants are both professional and pleasant humans that made my experience there better than I would have expected. Reception team-excellent as well as the technicians who performed a range of tests and image-taking, and Dr. Sorenson-all excellent.
I visited the Westchester branch of this practice to see Dr. Irene Barbazetto. All of the staff here is spectacular - very personable while also being efficient and competent in their duties. You experience both expertise and warmth - a rare combination in doctors’ offices. Dr. Barbazetto explains clearly and answers questions patiently. A great practice.
One of the most professional, knowledgeable and yet friendly team of doctors and professionals in NYC. I have never had my eyes examined so thoroughly and feel so much better knowing that my eyes are in good hands. Dr Klein himself attends to almost all patients and the level of attention and care is phenomenal.
I have been seeing Dr. Engelbert at Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants since 2017. Dr. Engelbert and the staff have provided exceptional care at every visit. They are professional, kind, thorough, and thoughtful. When I have needed acute attention, they have taken the time necessary to fully assess and treat my retinas. When I am there for a routine checkup, the visits are timely and efficient. I highly recommend this wonderful team and am grateful to be under their care.
Very fortunate to have found this group but especially to have found such a skilled practitioner as Dr. Engelbert. The staff has always been courteous and helpful and the office is run very efficiently...right down to the soft jazz playing in the waiting area. Thank you all for your kind service.
From the moment you enter the office you are treated with respect from all the staff. The office operates efficiently to ensure that all patients have the time to be seen and talk with their physicians. I am very pleased with the care . Compassion and overall kindness that has been shown to me. I highly recommend this office for care. My physician is absolutely amazing. He always makes you feel that you can ask any questions and you always will get an answer
This was last year’s review but everything was still exactly the same so I’m reposting again for this year’s visit. “Everyone here is so caring and thorough. Always a pleasure to visit VRMNY for my retinopathy checkups, especially Dr. Slakter, but also all the techs and the desk staff. All very helpful and knowledgeable.” I highly recommend VRMNY!
Dr. Slakter and the team are the very best. They have been taking care of me for the last 15 years or so and it is really more than the outstanding medical specialty, which goes without saying. It is also the human care and personal consideration that makes me feel part of a team that really cares about me and all other patients equally!
Dr. Spades is a truly passionate and understanding individual, and not only it can be seen inside his place of work, but also outside as well. He would go to extreme lengths to provide the most efficient forms of treatment for his patients - he did for me regarding my condition - and his bright charm and attitude is something that can really make one’s day.
I have been seeing Dr. S;paide for over 3 years and always found it a very good experience. The staff is caring and professional and I appreciate having my appointment times honored with little to no waiting. Most important, Dr. Spaide addressed my issue, and was able to take care of the problem. I ask a lot of questions, and I very much value Dr. Spaide taking the time to explain everything fully and clearly. Awareness is important to me and makes everything a bit easier to handle.
Dr. Sorenson was extremely competent, professional and thorough. I would recommend him without hesitation. He surgically repaired my macular hole with excellent results. HIs office is run very efficiently as well and I feel very fortunate that he was recommended to me by my eye doctor at NYU.
I cant thank God enough for choosing this place and to met Dr. SORENSON. All started with a little search on google for a closest ophthalmologist to my house, I readed a lot of good reviews about this office then I went there.. I had a bad vertigo all the time and I was almost losing my vision, I was seen by Dr Sorenson and I knew that I had a retinal detachment and this required an urgent surgery.! It was the worst day of my life, I was just crying because I didnt know what theyre talking about.. I was scared.. but Dr Sorenson was very professional and very kind, he was explaining to me everything word by word, he was making things very easy for me to understand Im French speaking he was confirming that I will be fine and that everything will be good after the surgery. I saw many videos on YouTube about my case and I had bad feeling because 90% was negative reviews but I decided to do the surgery. I trusted Dr Sorenson a lot, the way he was explaining and caring for me I felt Im between a safe hands. Thank God my feeling was true and my choice was right. My surgery was successful, I didnt have any symptoms after that and Im still following up with Dr Sorenson. I want to say Thank you for all the professionalism and the support you gave me, I wish I can give you more than 5 stars 🙏
Have been a patient of VRMC for many years and Dr. Barbazetto has been overseeing my specific retina problem for much of that time. She is knowledgeable, very skilled in dealing with retina conditions, and treats her patients with care and compassion. She really does make getting a syringe jabbed into the eyeball seem effortless (and painless).
Dr. Freund and the staff at VRMNY are excellent in patient care. Ive been a patient of Dr. Barbazzetto for a long time and she is very attentive to my condition and is very thorough in her diagnosis. Anna and Max are very professional in providing the best care to VRMNY patients. I am very glad I found them!
Dr. Engelbert was very thorough and pleasant. He explained the situation in my eye with great clarity and put me at ease. At the same time he asked me if he could show some medical students the condition in my eye which I gladly agreed to doing. Once again I repeat how pleased I was with his treatment. The one problem I had occurred after I left since Dr. Engelbert prescribed Duvesol which is very expensive and not covered by my medicare. The cost is $300. Additionally, since I wouldnt be seeing the doctor for a month, I would have to purchase this weekly. However, my pharmacy and I phoned the doctors office and I spoke with a young woman, Dina. I explained the cost problem of the eye drops and she directed me to another woman, Laurie, who could help with an alternate drop. Dina gave me Lauries extension and said she would contact Laurie and give her this information. All of this occurred on Friday afternoon and I was concerned about going into the weekend and having to buy the more expensive drops or none at all. Fortunately, Laurie called later that afternoon, contacted my pharmacy and prescribed the alternate which is PrednisolONE. This eye drop cost about $39.You can see from the above how helpful everyone at your organization was and how pleased I am with everything done for me. I suggest you make an addition to your telephone to your telephone answering system. Various numbers are given beginning with emergencies, if your medical professional etc. I went through all the choices and there was no choice for my situation i.e. looking for an alternate medication. I selected medical professionals and that is how I found Dina. There should be an additional choice for someone in my situation to get them to someone like Laurie.I am typing this for the patient, my husband, Stanley Siegelbaum.
Very comprehensive exam by technician followed by solid meeting with doctor. The paperwork was onerous - took 15 minutes to complete & should be done on line prior to the visit. The technician asked several questions that had already been answered on the questionnaire & others that should have been on the questionnaire. Very large waiting area - but no Covid seating requirements. Not too long a wait considering the number of patients.
Ive been a patient at VRMNY for years, starting with Dr Klein at 460 Park (very nice guy BTW) and now with Dr Engelbert (caring and extremely skilled surgeon Im sensing a trend at that practice 🙂) Im impressed by their referral practice to assist on diagnosis and treatment options. I trust Dr Engelbert in his treatment and surgical efforts to preserve my vision. Especially during the peak COVID lock down when I needed surgery. Id recommend him in a heartbeat, hes gone above and beyond.I have been to multiple other practices (way too many, some of which should close!)) during my life and this one stands out in professionalism and compassion (shout out to Monica, Rebecca and the team.
Lets forget the fact that Dr. Slakter has a pleasant manner and diposion.Lets forget the fact that he can administer injections into my eye painlessly. (almost)More importantly, lets remember that after four years despite the condition that I have , my vision has remained stable. For that I thank him with all my heart.Gabe Tusk
I just love Dr. Klancnick. He is caring, but more than that, he has taken the fear out of going to my Retina doctor. I now get injections directly into my eye, and needless to say this is a scary experience. Dr. Klancnick explains everything to me about the procedure and shows me my improvement. I was so lucky to find him when I moved back to Brooklyn. As I praise him, I must also praise his kind and professional staff. They are great!!!
Dr Sorenson and personnel at vrmny are very professional and caring. I could not be more satisfied with their attentiveness.i have patronized vrmny for four years and have not been disappointed at any time. Even through the COVID emergency the doctors and staff maintained their professionalism. I am presently recovering from surgery performed by Dr Sorenson and have absolute confidence of full and satisfactory restoration of my sight.thank you Dr Sorenson
Dr. Michael J. Cooney has been my retinal specialist for over 10 years. Unfortunately my retinas have detached in both eyes twice before the age of 50 (which is equal to lotto odds, except with lots of pain and no money). After the 3rd detachment, I thoroughly researched my options as my previous doctor was too busy to see me on a weekend and seemed more concerned about opening another eye center. From the start Dr: Cooney was professional, thorough , compassionate and direct about my condition and possible solutions. Together we decided on the best alternative and he has guided me through subsequent surgeries to address the cataracts that inevitably come after invasive wyd surgery.Eye surgeries are not only painful, depending on the severity of your condition terrifying, and in my case Dr: Cooney helped me to recover vision in my left eye and preserve vision in my right eye.I have to see him every 6 months now for the rest of my life to be sure things are ok and I always know the visit requires ample time for the myriad imaging and examination procedures required.Dr. Cooney often has to soothe me when I develop the occasional eye irritation or discomfort (that sets me into a panic)! My favorite thing he says to me “it’s my job to worry about preserving your vision, your job is to apply your drops and show up every six months.”As a lifelong New Yorker, I’ve seen and heard it all and it’s difficult to gain my trust. Dr. Cooney has always communicated with me with the utmost integrity, compassion and patience and I highly recommend VRMNY (their brand new office on 57th St is not bad either!
Ive been an extremely satisfied Client of this marvelous group of Optical Wizards since 2006. The care and treatment provided here is always extraordinary. Most impressive is how committed VRMC is to the ever evolving technology in the advancement of tackling Optical degeneration. I cant imagine a finer Clinic than this for treatment of my Retinal condition.
To be honest, I wasnt supposed to be seeing Dr. Barbazetto (Dr. B), but another physician in your office and boy did I get lucky.I cannot say enough about Dr. B on her bedside manner and the exam she gave me. She is one in a million. Dr. B was heaven scent.I went to see her because I had lightning bolts and black spots coming out of my left eye and thought I was going blind. My eyes are not that great. Years ago, I had curable glucoma and had real concerns about what was going on my eye.I had many questions for Dr. B and she was so patient and caring in explaining to me every step of the way.Her eye examination was nothing like I never had. It was so thorough and Im so grateful for an examination on that level.Im so happy that I made the right choice to listen to my friend Josephine Carrion who is a patient at this practice.Thank you for physicians like Dr. Barbazetto...).
Considering the importance of vision and the numerous serious diseases which pose a life changing threat, there is no room for error. The finest eye specialists in the country are found at VRMCNY. I have been a patient there for decades and have been seen by several doctors. They define the meaning of expert and consult with one another to ensure accuracy. The office is spotless. The staff is courteous and professional. The visits are usually time consuming due to the necessity of imaging and a preliminary exam with a technician before seeing the specialist. I consider myself fortunate and am very grateful to be a patient there.
The last time I came to this practice was three years ago. Wait time to see my doctor was over twio hours. Moved from wait room to wait room after each procedure. Spent three and a half hours at the practice. My latest appointment went quicker.. Seemed more organized was out in two hours. The one waiting room was less confusing,.
Dr. Michael Cooney is a godsend to me and my friend and colleague Jeff who suffers from an unpleasant retinal condition that affected his second eye 30 years after the first one. It is scary for an academician to lose his vision, so the trips to the VRMC office – once in 10 weeks – to oncein 4 weeks are always full of anxiety: what will Dr. Cooney say today? Will Jeff need an injection? Is there more damage to the only seeing eye? Is it permanent? And no matter how full the waiting room is, Dr. Cooney will review the scans thoroughly, do a comprehensive eye exam, and help us to overcome our anxieties and fear, even if the exam is not so positive and Jeff needs to get an injection. In about 7-8 years that we came to see Dr. Cooney, there was never a shortcut – he is always professional, curious, positive, encouraging, tolerant, humorous, personable, and a good listener! As a physician and a patient advocate, I appreciate these qualities very much and I am forever grateful to Dr.Cooney for making my friend Jeff feel cared for and for me knowing I have anexcellent colleague and collaborator I could ask any question and refer patients to: I know they will get excellent Doctor’s care.
Literally a money grab, went in for a specific issue and they conducted tests upon tests for things completely UNRELATED without any discussion beforehand ONTOP of being at the office for 2+ hours it’s safe to say I won’t be back and will not be recommending anyone here
Absolutely the most professional compassionate and caring doctor and Staff anyone could ask for. I recently had a retinal detachment and the doctor performed a miracle, restoring my vision beyond my expectation. I am forever grateful to Dr. Engelbert and the entire staff.
Dr. Freund Bailey is an extremely knowledgable and very articulate ophthalmologist. He really took the time with my peculiar case which was actually a neurological issue that was causing my compromised vision. He was definitive in his analysis, went over the scans with me and explained why this could not be retina related. He suggested I look into other reason why this could be happening. He was the third Ophthalmologist I had seen and like they say Third time is a charm?. Thank you Dr. Freund!
The staff from entry to sitting and discussing with Dr. Klancnik, are excellent. Dr. Klancnik is so clear with everything and so attentive to my questions and concerns. So glad I found him years ago..... Friendliest and most professional each and everyone of them..from beginning to end..
On the phone the staff is rude and not very clear regarding office and insurance information and procedures. In person, the staff seems friendly at first but not very courteous. I have public insurance - and not private so the staff forgot to mention that I need a referral. So when I got to the office they expected a referral but how am I supposed to know I need a referral If I was not told prior to the visit? It’s common courtesy to let your patients know if there’s something that needs to be acquired or get done BEFORE the appointment! I mean do they not prep the night before and go over patient’s insurance while they are confirming appointments? If they have been working in this field for so long it should be obvious which insurances need what. I have worked in a medical office for over 20 years and I always informed patients if a referral or something else is needed prior to visit. It’s part of the job. However I bet if you owe them money they would call you and send you letters letting you that money is owed. Needless to say, they asked me if my doctor can send a referral right then and there. So now I have to spend another 30 min getting through my PCP and asking them for an expedited referral. Very unprofessional to say the least and made me look like an idiot for asking knowing that all referrals take at least 48 hours to process. I don’t know who is in charge of the policies and procedures of this office but it wouldn’t hurt to have a little common courtesy to advise future patients that they are required to have a referral! Other than that major issue, if you can get passed this right initial process well the medical staff and techs are all very nice and helpful.
The doctors in this practice are considered the top in the US. I have met patients in the waiting room from all over the world.About 35 years ago, at a young age, I experienced a massive hemorrhage in my right eye due to macula degeneration. Drs Larry Yannuzzi and John Sorensen have preserved the remainder of my vision which has allowed me to have a normal and full life. I am so grateful to them. This is a very busy practice which does cutting edge work. I believe you may need a referral from your doctor to get an appointment. They do complex retinal procedures, not routine eye exams.Virginia Bowman
My wife has been treated by both Doctor Klein and Doctor Spade. The superb and compassionate care made us very happy that we chose these physicians. The exams were very thorough . They answered our questions with clarity and patience. Doctor Klein spent a lot of time with us today making us feel confident that my wife is receiving superb care in his hands. We are very grateful to have him as my wifes physician.
BE CAREFUL! Front desk with an attitude, very rude.THEY CHARGE ME TWICE FOR A EYE EXAME. Billing assistant screaming in the phone. I went with a infectious eye and I have to wait for an hour. DR COONEY he didnt have idea what I have!horrible service I will never come back here again!.
The staff at this clinic saved my eyesight. I saw Dr. Michael Englebert who was wonderful, professional, warm and friendly. I did not know I was suffering a partially detached retina. Dr. Englebert and the staff jumped through hoops to get me set up and scheduled for emergency eye surgery the same day at Lenox Hill Hospital, not an easy feat considering the amount of people involved in surgery and after care - and navigating the health insurance maze.. It was a very stressful day made a whole lot easier by the staff at this caring, supportive eye clinic. If youre having a serious eye problem, this is the place to go.
Have to agree with the rest of the reviews. The doctors and technicians are excellent, but try getting ahold of a doctor to ask a question and you have to run the gauntlet of a very rude reception staff. I called because I was concerned about a symptom that could be a sign of something dangerous but didnt want to make an appointment unless it was necessary. Maybe I was worrying for nothing. I called and left a message in the evening and then called again mid-morning the next day. I was told the staff was very busy and couldn’t respond.
I have been going to Dr. John Sorenson for about 16 years...ever since I had a detached retina. He and the entire staff are terrific. They are uniformly courteous, respectful, proficient, professional and informative. The most important thing I can say is that I TRUST Dr. Sorenson. What could be more important these days in our current health care system?
I visited my retina specialist, Dr. Yale Fisher, and was very pleased with the patient care I received. I was also pleasantly surprised at how nice the staff was towards me. There was a patient representative who helped me fill out the forms. The photographers were professional and gave me a thorough exam. I highly recommend many of the doctors there. The one that started this practice, Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi, is the one that wrote the retina textbook.

2022-08-01Everyone was professional and courteous. Masks were required and most people wore them, correctly. The staff was helpful and friendly. Dr Engelbert is a wonderful doctor. He is professional, kind and courteous. However the wait time was quiet long. I waited over 1/2 hour past my appointment to first start the process. I was there for 2 hours.

2022-06-16I had my first visit with Dr. Robert Klein yesterday and I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a knowledgeable Ophthalmologist who cares about his patients, and will explain everything in the process. I felt well taken care of and knew that I was in good hands. I did see a few people during my visit, some of whom I don’t remember their names but they were all super kind and welcoming. Special thanks to Jojo for setting the tone of my appointments. She is great at her job and made me feel so comfortable! I will highly recommend Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants on 3rd avenue!

2022-06-20A clean and comfortable facility welcomes patients to a large, quiet waiting room. They are received by competent receptionists who arewell-informed of the complexities of medical insurance. Appointments are made quickly and courteously and required screenings are performed by certified technicians. The doctors who have contributed to the development of the techniques to combat Macula Degeneration have won national and international acclaim and metit every confidence on the part of anyone lucky enough to be treated here. Excellent.

2022-07-28Check in was effortless and efficient. The facility is immaculately clean and well organized. The staff is gracious and polite. Dr Cooney spent a significant amount of time with me after extensive testing. I’m really impressed with the office as a whole. Kudos!

2022-08-11Very caring and accommodating staff. Also the most thorough and professional physicians. Dr. Freund is wonderful, knowledgeable and reviewed my case with me thoroughly. I’ve seen other retinal specialists who can’t match the compassion and dedication of this practice. I’m very grateful to them.

2022-06-17(The person writing this review is Dr. Janet A. Geller. Stanley Bitterman is my husband and our account is in his name). Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants of NY is top notch. All the staff are warm, friendly, knowledgeable. I am especially grateful to two wonderful MD’s there who I see, Dr. Yannuzzi and Dr.klein. My visit today was due to waking up with what might have been an eye infection. Dr. Klein, in his generosity and kindness, fit me in today even though he had a full schedule. Not only are the MD’s I see excellent doctors but they are real human beings. Unfortunately, I have two exceptions to the above. The waiting room is very large and crowded with patients and in a time of COVID, there is no social distancing in seating . The second exception is a member of reception support staff who, due to her negligence, caused me extra wait time. She was supposed to schedule me for a technician exam, never did and then blamed me with attitude for not knowing that I needed .this exam before I saw the doctor. Not good PR.

2022-06-27Dr Freund has been treating my 97 yr old father for Macular Degeneration for about 23 years. He always treats him with the utmost care and courtesy. His office always gives him very thorough examinations and explains his status in terms we can understand. Great place!

2022-06-22A good experience. All the staff was very nice and explained what they were going to do. My inly complaint is that the lighting in the lighting in the waiting room is much too bright for dilated eyes! It is downright painful! Be sure to bring dark glasses! For a pratice of sprecialty ophthalmology i would have expected better!

2022-07-14The visit with my daughter to the Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants of New York had been one of the most amazing experiences we have had in a healthcare Center. We came by car from Ottawa Canada to the center due to the discovery of a serious problem in both of my daughter’s retinas. Unfortunately because of the state of the health system in Canada my daughter was not able to see an specialist until 2 more months which will mean the possibility of loosing her sight. Dr Eldenberg took care of my daughter situación in an incredible professional way he review completely her situation and performed the Laser Surgery on site in both her eyes. I am a professor of International Human Resource Management at Carleton U in Ottawa and among many things I teach, I teach quality of service. We received the most caring, effective and prompt quality of service I had ever received in a health care Center, from all the professionals at the VRMC Center. They are what patients with serious problems in their retinas are looking for, have the combination of compassion, caring and excellent professional service. Thank you so much to all the professionals in the Center!!!
