Attended the evening performance of “My Fair Lady” on Aug. 18, 2018. Wonderful venue, smaller than any I had been too, but still amazing. Ticket window and Will Call are located on the main lobby floor downstairs, and on the left side of the building beyond the stairs. The ‘Lincoln Center Theater Review’ booklet of “My Fair Lady” should be a collectors item! Oddest thing about the Vivian Beaumont is that the only upstairs restrooms on the Loge Level are unisex, one person at a time, restrooms. There are two on either side of the Loge entrance doors. The line was incredibly long at intermission, so I’m glad I took care of my business before hand. I make it a habit of restricting fluid intake three hours before a show, otherwise I might have missed the beginning of Act 2. You’ve been warned. ;)
So the size and configuration of the theater is fine, BUT if one is over 55 tall, the seats arent spaced well to afford comfort to patrons. We sat in row K of the left orchestra, and our knees were crunched by inadequate spacing between the rows. And my lower back ached as well.
This was one of the best shows I have seen. It was My Fair Lady. Great job by all the performers. The staff was helpful including the security guards. The entire area was neat, clean and secured. We went to the last show on sunday afternoon, it was a perfect way to end the day, we laughed and talked about that show for the next few days and Im still talking about it. Will return for another show in the future.
How come a Broadway theater cannot be located on Broadway? This confused me as a kid. The Vivian Beaumont Theater is a Broadway theater located in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts complex at 150 West 65th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.Compared to the rest, the Vivian Beaumont Theater can be considered a rather young venue. It was officially opened on October 21, 1965. It has a solid seating capacity of 1,200. The Vivian Beaumont differs from traditional Broadway theaters because of its use of stadium seating and its thrust stage configuration. It the last years, the Vivian Beaumont Theater has seen some amazing shows like The King and I, Oslo; Junk, My Fair Lady, The Great Society. Flying Over Sunset. Flying Over Sunset was the last show that was presented before the global lockdown. However, the most impactful show in the venue’s recent history is My Fair Lady. It tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, so that she may pass as a lady. The show revolves around Higgins’ struggles in teaching Eliza proper speech. Still he outdoes himself and manages to turn her into a fair lady, even gaining the interest of a respected fair gentleman in the process.
Got to see My Fair Lady here, a truly memorable experience. Would recommend getting seats not in the balcony, so that youre not just looking at the rest of the audience for the remainder of the show. The acoustics int the theatre are clear, stage has cool mechanics, and hey its Broadway!
This was my first time at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and we saw My Fair Lady! The performance was active, engaging, and superb! You should see it while it is still here. Now to the actual Theatre review. When you look at the Opera House from the outside this theatre is to the right and set back. It is easy to enter, the main lobby has a massive amount of natural light from the large windows surrounding it, and has good sound absorption as to make the lobby filled with people not so loud. The stage comes out into the crowd to make a half circle which allows the audience to be closer and makes for a more intimate setting. The seats are standard size, but there is not much room for your feet to move around. They have four bathrooms in total, but the women in my group stood in line for a good amount of time because they are small. This was an enjoyable experience and I would not hesitate to go back here for another performance.
Watched the musical My Fair Lady in this theater. The musical deserves the applause that it has received. Everyone in the cast was impeccable and you will definitely have a good laugh during the performance. The theater was also very good, comfortable seats, good viewing angles. Buying tickets to ushers knowing their stuff about the event, every thing was good. You cant go wrong with this place!
I the theater - not too big, but big enough to feel posh and grand. Excellent sound system. Love anything at Lincoln Center - I am always impressed by the cultured beauty in upper midtown, so unlike the theater district. Seats are well designed for comfort and maximum stage visibility. Very helpful staff. Just gorgeous.
We sat on the second row in the middle of the orchestra to see My Fair Lady. the theater is remarkably intimate for its size. the seats are very comfortable and I got the impression that others wherever they sat had no trouble hearing the dialogue and singing. even the long line at the womens bathroom was efficient and got us through intermission and back in time for Act II which was very impressive.
Beautifully laid out partial-thrust stage. We had a beautiful view from the last row of the orchestra and I doubt any seats on the second level are worse. The sound was great and My Fair Lady was amazing. Creative 360° rotating set, and beautiful costumes. Look forward to seeing future shows here!
I saw My Fair Lady at the Lincoln Center, Vivian Beaumont Theater and it was fabulous. The seats were excellent viewing. In fact all the seats in the theater had unobstructed views. The moving sets were unbelievable! Fascinating. I highly recommend that you go once in your life to experience this.
Saw My Fair Lady here. Production aside the theater itself is Great venue. Stadium seating, punctuates the auditorium. There is not a bad seat in the house. I will definitely come back to see future productions at this theater. The worst part was the crowding in the lobby, but that is common in any New York City theater.
I love a theater where the stage juts out into the Orchestra seating. My husband & I have now seen several plays at this Lincoln Center theater. Weve twice ended up in Orchestra seats along the right side of the extended stage & it feels like youre right up there with the actors. The theater has great sight lines, nice amenities and comfortable seats.
We saw “The Great Society” yesterday at this theater. The play was great, however the seats were NOT! There was HARDLY ANY LEG ROOM!!! We were in Row E on the left side of the stage. It seemed the closer we got to the stage, the less room there was between the rows. I’m 5’7” and had trouble crossing my feet; there was a guy who was 6’4” next to me....he was miserable!!!
Excellent viewing because of each row of seats raised enough to have perfect view of stage even for shorter people. However the rows are so close together that there is vertually no leg room. Even mid size legs need an end of row seat.Great location at Lincoln Center. Many great restaurants nearby.
Fantastic seats, almost anywhere you sit. The stage moves out to create an intimate half circle theater - you dont miss anything and the performers feel so close to you! The orchestra is below the stage. Lighting & stage decorations are professional and tastefully done.
This is part of the theater complex in Lincoln Center. The seats are comfortable and views from seat are good. I like that the theater has a nice spacious light filed lobby/waiting area that allow for the amount of people who come to see shows. Unlike the lobbies of theaters in Time Square which are cramped and sardine like blockage entering or exiting shows. The ushers the usual old women who have to constantly deal with obnoxious tourists who apparently never been to a show before and I guess that is probably the truth maintain a pleasant but firm attitude.
This intimate theatre offers top-notch productions, recently home to War Horse, and hardly a bad seat in the house. Seating is comfortable, but dont expect much leg room, and the sound system has been terrific for every performance Ive seen there. You can avoid that last minute dash to the show by eating early and then enjoying a coffee or tea at the reception area, or bring snack to enjoy by the reflection pond pre- or post-show.
Badly signposted. By the time I found the Beaumont Theatre the production had started. Would have gone in after 8 minutes but was told it would not be possible to stand at the back. As I didnt want to disturb people by being shown to my seat late, I left. Waste of a $200 ticket.Astonished that a modern theatre does not have standing room.If you are from out town, allow yourself lots of time to find this venue!
I recently had the chance to watch The Great Society starring the magnificent cast of the show, with Brian Cox performing as Lyndon B. Johnson, that left me with a sense of humanity and overall acceptance. The portrayal of the supporting cast to the identity of the real character during their lives in regards to the historical accuracy is riveting and revealing. Very much a show of truth and honest giving, with a destructive, direct detail to the emotion within the show and the message together do a masterful work that can be found throughout by any viewer who has an open mind for a straight play with a strong, gripping course of action.
The VBT theater and its surroundings are stunning. We were surprised to see people very dressed up for this theater. Its definitely a much more upscale and mature place than your regular broadway theater crowd. The theater itself is pretty small compare to those on broadway, even if you sit upstairs you will be able to see. Seats are pretty comfortable. Its amazing how the orchestra is out in the open when the show starts, and then the stage actually extends over them when the show begins. Enjoy. Visit.****
I just saw Macbeth starring Ethan Hawke at the Beaumont. I enjoyed the play from front row seats on the right side of the stage. Although my view was blocked for some of the scenes, being right next to the action was worth it! The seats are comfortable (if a little close together) and the overall size of the theatre is not too big, promoting a very intimate viewing experience. I will definitely be back for more!
We had the great opportunity to see the revival of this production of My Fair Lady in the front row of the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Laura Benanti as Eliza and Alexander Gemangani as Alfred P. Doolittle were amazingly talented. From our vantage point they were flawless and vibrant. We were also fortunate that the role of Mrs. Higgins was played by the timelessly talented, beatific Rosemary Harris. The theater is intimate yet comfortable and the orchestra playing the classic songs was an extraordinary experience.
Fantastic venue for theater productions, just enjoyed My Fair Lady for the second time, so impressed with the technological artistry and accompanying choreography of/on the sets (which I understand had a brief glitch last evening), am filled with endless regret over not having seen the productions here of King and I, South Pacific, War Horse.

2021-11-24Very clean theatre, which is expected for the Lincoln Center. The restrooms are great (men’s room is at least) and line goes very quickly due to the large size. Audio in the theater was great in the loge seats and the staging for the show I saw, Flying Over Sunset, was spectacular!

2022-02-05Different layout from typical rectangular box theaters, but works very well for the right type of show.I saw the final performance of Flying Over Sunset here, and was quite happy with my experience here. The stage was a great fit for the musical, and the acoustics were quite good.

2022-05-31I sat in Right Orchestra Row B - I felt as though I was practically in the production (in a good way). The lighting for Flying Over Sunset was gorgeous, I loved the intimate feel of this theater. Info for new visitors: follow the signs towards Lincoln Center Theater - the Vivian Beaumont is inside it.

2021-12-05The theatre was great. I’ve seen a lot of stuff there over the years. The show currently on was a big meh - Flying Over Sunset. So boring. How did this happen?! It’s an LSD musical!! Zzzzzz. But I’ll be back to this glorious space for the next show, I’m sure. I would have left during intermission, but I’m still so excited that Broadway is back up and running that I’m happy to be bored (this will wear off soon).

2022-05-28Space is open, seats are narrow, clean and its part of the main Lincoln Center Plaza. Staff are mostly helpful and friendly. Patrons tends to be older and cordial. Its an Broadway theater uptown, not in the theater district. The building itself has two other smaller off Broadway theaters. Shows lately hasnt been great.

2019-06-26In terms of the theater itself, it’s spacious and airy. You can see the stage well, at least in orchestra and at other seats as well perhaps either way. The seats are so much higher apart and it’s amazing!

2018-11-06Watched My Fair Lady here with Laura Benanti in the cast. Such an amazing show with an excellent cast. This was one of my favorite movie growing up, and I loved watching it from side orchestra. Each seat has a great view in Orchestra. Theater seats are very comfy too.

2018-10-23Great space in a beautiful setting. The semi circular stage projects into the audience giving all seats a great view. You really are part of the onstage action. Only complaint: the seats are too close together, aisles are narrow and there is very little legroom to sit comfortably. There is more room flying coach. Due to the pitch of the seating, your toes are on level with someones back, therefore you cant put your feet under their seat. This forces your feet back and knees forward into a cramped position. I moved to an empty seat after intermission, the good news - even the last seat all the way to the side aisle has good views, but still tight quarters and i am only average height. Great theater to see a show but choose your seat for legroom.
