Von in other cities:
Von is a great neighborhood spot. Throw backs to classic bleeker/Bowery vibes. Friendly staff and patrons. Great drinks. Best happy hour in the hood. Get either chill drinks upstairs or brace yourself for the great dancing downstairs. Downstairs is very crowded, college age. But always fun. Go here on the weekend if the line is too long for Ghost Donkey.
I went here for my birthday last night - the goal was to dance to good music and have good times. The DJ kinda ruined the evening, he refused to play any songs our party requested and the music taste was just off. If you’re looking to go out somewhere, I’m not sure if I’d recommend Von after last night.
Went to Von after dinner since I was curious about this rustic yet refined NoHo wine bar. Although the bar offers a laid-back experience with hardwood floors, exposed brick, weathered wood bar, and golden glow of candlelight, I found it to be stuffy and boring. Not to mention the almost non existent service! We walked in around 10pm had one glass of wine after wait for the bartender to finish his never ending conversation with what seemed to be his friend. I was let down since it is a very cute place but its NYC and nobody has time for bad serviceAlso, it is small with not that much seating. Giving 2 stars for the cute ambiance!
Great small bar always hopping. Can find a nice spot in second part of bar in back to sit at with friend or date. Bartenders and staff are friendly. Fun place to meet for a drink or two and then head downtown somewhere else or just meet for a drink. Located next to a lot of other bars and restaurants. Easy to get to from subway. A lot of a younger NYU and slightly older crowd.
One of the great hidden gems of the East Village. Wonderful bartenders who make artistic tasty cocktails. A rare ambience that is soothing and sophisticated. A fine quiet place to take a date. Nice hip dance space downstairs with good music. A little something for everyone. My favorite bar.
The space is cool (large enough due to two rooms on the street level and a dancing space in the basement, w/ several functioning bathrooms), the music was fine and the rowdy was eclectic. The only downside was the bartenders. Unresponsive, not engaging and the hesitation in making cocktails that werent on their list.
Came here last Saturday night. The downstairs DJ played mostly rap, some R&B. He did a lot of old school tracks lol. There was surprisingly enough room on the dance floor to breathe and we wound up staying till 3 am so It was fun but the ambiance, at least downstairs is nothing special.
This is the best bar in new york. great service, drinks, music, decor and vibe. the owners are super cool and totally involved in the management of the space. the staff is friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. theres a wide range of choices to drink, pretty much whatever your heart desires and your wallet can endure. but prices are totally reasonable. whether its the DJ or the bartenders choice, theres always good music pumping. this is my go to spot for both intimate gatherings and blow out parties. theres a cool cavernous space downstairs that can be reserved. Von is classy, but not too precious and the bathrooms are not horrifying. conveniently located, Von is the spot to hang out, whether youre a local or a visitor. i highly recommend!!!
Visited here for one of their monthly stand-up shows and was not disappointed. About six young comics performed and they were all consistently good. A singer performed an short acoustic set afterwards and everyone stayed around to watch her, she was that good. This was a great way to spend a Sunday.
Celebrated my birthday here and had a really good time. DJ Add-a-lesson had the dance floor rocking all night long. The bar prices were a lil steep but expected. But for the life of me why dont they carry Ciroc or any other vodka except Titos? And why cant I buy a bottle or get bottle service?
Great spot. Good atmosphere. Downstairs can be fun. Dont expect a wide selection of beer. Usually lighter stuff on tap--Stella Artois, Bitburger, Brooklyn Lager, that kind of thing. Fine for summer. But you can expect nice signature cocktails, good wine, and good service.
What a strange place. I wont be coming back.So we were told we had to order food & couldnt just have an after dinner drink (fine, I understand this is now a NY law - I didnt realize it when we first walked in since I no longer live in NY, the manager had to explain it to me, & did he - in quite a condescending tone). That aside, to air on the side of fairness: its not factored into my rating...We ordered 3 drinks (2 spicy margaritas & a glass of wine), the Sophia pizza & guacamole & the bill came out to ~$65. The guacamole was 1 tablespoon - literally, 1 tablespoon - placed in a small mason jar to appear larger. It was served with chips - that tasted stale - & a small mason jar equivalent of pico de gallo. The pico had a nice kick & was tasty, in all fairness. The guac & stale chips - even though it was only $5, were a total waste of time. The Sophia pizza, to our surprise, was lovely - served with arugula on top & drizzled with a bit of balsamic glaze (not made fresh - I think he mentioned its sourced from a Brooklyn restaurant - but passable). Is it worth $15? Nope. Also, they had no plates. Zero plates to eat on. If you have to serve food with drinks, I feel like investing in some cutlery & plates (even disposable) is necessary. We used a lot of napkins - which just seemed silly. And to conclude, the service leaves much to be desired. I really really feel for small businesses, its a tough time, & Im game to support how/when I can. But Id check some of the arrogance & assumption, & replace it with a bit more kindness & open mindedness.
My husband and I came into the city to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We planned to begin the evening at Vonbar for open mic night. Unfortunately the Gravy Train event coordinator never showed up. Comedians were waiting to perform and audience members were waiting to be entertained. How extremely disappointing and unprofessional. The bartender said she would text the person to find out where he was. This was to no avail. What a shame!!!
Vibe is really chill, music is (almost) always good, and their cocktails will have you in the best mood. Im going down 1 star, only because half of the times Ive been here on usually a Saturday night, the AC either isnt non existent. Its the only negative thing I can say, you cant come here without coming out drenched in your own and others (ew) sweat.
Love the decor and the dim lighting but I walked in and the woman bartender was having a conversation with someone on the opposite side of the bar. I waited for quite some time. Then, more people came in and she served them first than us. What a dissapointment. Walked out right after.
Looks like a small quaint bar from the outside, but go inside and find yourself in a basement bar with a dance floor. This is a weekday spot if you dont like over crowding, because on weekends it can get overbearing with the masses. Great drinks and nice friendly staff. Great place to hang out, just be wearing of how big the crowds get.
Monday and Tuesday nights are truly wonderful at this bar. Walk in from Bleecker Street (@Bowery) and you are immersed in a realm of eclectic music (courtesy of Caitlin, who also minds the bar). It’s never crazy busy on these nights, so I usually pick up a sandwich at nearby Bite (at Lafayette) and cozy up with a draft to enjoy the tunes, which might include Glen Campbell, Nick Cave, or Shirley Bassey. Von is NYC at its best.
Von really is like two bars in one. On the top floor, you have a very relaxed bar scene where you can chat it up with folks without having to yell over one another. Downstairs is a different scene. The DJs downstairs are aiming to get the party started, primarily with a mixture of throwback and current hip hop & R&B. Its just a fun place to be.
Seemed like a decent place when I went but it was way overfilled. I could barely move around and the basement was like a sweat lodge. Drink prices arent terrible and the bartenders were ok but overall I wasnt that impressed. Lots of pushy people without manners as well.
Security guards are physical, rude, and threatening. One of them pushed my boyfriend down onto the ground (that was covered in glass) for being in his way. It was his birthday, and he was minding his business, dancing with his friends. Alberto (if he gave us his real name) pushed him onto the floor and further threateningly advanced him for absolutely no reason. The dance floor was very crowded and some nudging is expected, but not this kind of violent behavior. He has been celebrating his birthday there for 3 consecutive years, and always has 30+ people. NEVER AGAIN will we step foot into this place.

2022-09-13Came here on a rainy afternoon during Happy Hour and the vibes were so chill. The bartender was also really nice, I asked for a frozen margarita since it was discounted for Happy Hour but the machine was not working so they gave me a regular margarita and honored the Happy Hour price. So kind of them! But honestly, I wound up liking the mule a lot more 😅 menu is short and sweet and prices are standard for NYC

2022-04-11We came here on a Friday night after dinner and this place was way too packed for such a tiny place. Security guard was friendly, but it was impossible to get a drink and after about 15 minutes we decided to leave.

2021-07-10Shhh, dont tell anyone about this place because its fantastic!!! Happy Hour Frozen Drinks is what brought me inside. They also have a huge outdoor set up on a Bleeker Street closed to traffic. When you go inside the bar is right there with some of the coolest bartenders around. Go downstairs and there is a second bar and a dance floor, which kinda looks like a fighting ring but whatever. And if youre hungry they have snacks! Delicious pizza, I got with prosciutto and greens, fresh from the brick oven on a wooden palette and into my belly. Oh, and did I mention that they are dog friendly! Sh, dont tell anybody and lets keep this place our secret ;)

2022-09-01I simply love this place! Cesar, Ryan, Venny, Marina, Max, and Matt are some the best mixologists in the city. I always have a great time at the bar!

2022-03-06Came here for a friends birthday celebration and had a really, really great time! The downstairs area was my favorite. The ceiling is made of wine corks and the walls are stone/ brick and gave off a wine cellar vibe that I fell in love with. The DJ came around 10pm so we ended up dancing the night away which was so fun! I also had some of their brick oven pizza which was DELICIOUS! Definitely go here for a good time!

2019-05-15A solid - Almost Berlin style - watering hole with pretty average prices and selection, with a consistently nice crowd (when not filled to the brink) and incredibly nice staff. Masked as a no frills wine bar this places got a secret though.. Nope! Not the $5 and up drafts. Not the sparse seating arrangements.... Yup! stuffs going on downstairs I tell ya. Bring ya dancing vibes and find out for yourself ;)

2019-02-03I was here for the Listen Bar pop up event. Von seemed cool enough of a place to grab a drink but there were no signs or help directing people to the Listen Bar event. Many of looking like lost lambs but eventually ventured further back and found a second room with the entrance to the basement. Cool that Von hosted the Listen Bar event as nonalcoholic bars try to find a footing. The Listen Bar event started late. I ended up getting stuck in a corner by the bar because the event was so well attended. It was packed! The downstairs bar was a nice space, even if I only got to experience one corner of it. The NA Actual Sunshine cocktail and the Pilot Kombucha was tasty. Will attend future Listen Bar events if they do more pop ups or get a permanent space.

2022-02-19We really enjoyed Vonn, a very nice stop following a tour in Little Italy, Soho, and Chinatown in the very cold weather recently. A great spot to enjoy delicious hot toddies, interaction with very pleasant staff, and a cool vibe! A good place!
