If you call yourself a Greek bakery, specifically one that specializes sweets, this is a pretty sorry excuse for baklava. Soggy and with huge chunks of walnuts. Not delicate, no crunch, and no depth to the flavor. Like eating a handful of syrupy walnuts and cinnamon. Probably the worst baklava Ive had ever. You can find better in any of the many Greek or Mediterranean restaurants and markets around town (and for a better price too). Unimpressed by the food and the service was subpar. The woman at checkout was quite rude to myself and my wife.
There are plenty of vegan treats to choose from and some green food options. The flavor was terrific! I did not realize the baklava had almonds; my girlfriend cant eat them. Pistachio would be lovely to see. Or a nut-free version if that is even possible. Im sure if you let them know about an allergy, there are options here. There is some seating inside as well if you wanted to devour the deliciousness there.
Favorite Greek food in Rochester. So many delicious things on the menu and the desserts and pastries are sublime. Now all they have to do is get rid of the waitress Lydia - one of the worst servers Ive had in a long time - slow, humorless, and zero personality. But this is the place to go for Greek food. Terrific overall.
The food is almost ok despite being a vegan place. Ironically enough the worst dish was the Greek salad which was nothing else but lettuce with feta cheese. The rest of the food was decent, nothing outstanding. Not sure why they have such high reviews. The tables were sticky and dirty when we sat down and nobody cleaned them. The attitude of the staff is far from welcoming.
Felt at home at Voulas from the very first time I went there with my wife about 5 years ago. Currently we rarely miss a Saturday for breakfast there. The staff take after the owner, very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Of course being the great customers that we are makes it really difficult to be mean to us. They start my wifes tea before they even come to our table sometimes and when we are leaving they make sure to say so long. Love them as big as the sky, including the ones that have come and gone. I am not a vegetarian but I have yet to run out of things to order. My go-tos are the Kafteri Egg Sandwich, the Souvlaki Sandwich, the Gythio Plate and the Spanikopita but I have ordered and enjoyed several other dishes. Last week they had a Broccoli Rabe Omelette that was one of the best omelettes I have ever had. My wife usually goes for the Fruit and Yogurt Plate. The yogurt is life changing. It comes drizzled with honey and topped with chopped walnuts. Id be more descriptive but I am at work being pestered by my fellow employees. Just try it.
Two summers ago I left my house with hopes to discover a new rochester gem. (It was good as I am still thinking about it, and it’s been two years) Well voulas did not disappoint! The outside of the building may seem a bit abrasive at first. However once you set foot into the building you are transported into another world. The food was really good and I ended up dragging my brother the very next day so he could have some as well. I have never been disappointed in anything I have ordered.
Im not going to lie, as an omnivore I was a little worried going into a place that had no meat. It ended up being fantastic, the hummus was perfectly made, and had just the slightest texture to it, and the entrees we had were filling and very tasty. The server was extremely knowledgeable and attentive to everything. Kept on top of coffee and water refills, as well as checking in periodically throughout the meal. The decor was thrifty which gave it a nice warm home feel.Dont forget to try the cookies!
Family run business. Incredibly nice and friendly people. Food is straight up incredible. Prices are really good and portion sizes are ridiculous. If you are looking for Greek food this is a place you should put on your list. Food was fast and accurate. Handling checks with a large group was very easy.
Absolutely delicious food and baked goods. Food is prepared quickly. They also offer several products from local companies such as kombucha and olive oil.Staff is always very nice. They even make sure whether you need each dish vegetarian or vegan. The menu and specials board are also very clear about ingredients and customization options.Restaurant interior has been adjusted for mostly take-out, although they do offer a few small and distanced tables for dining in.
A bit overpriced for my taste. I went there today for the first and last time. Had ordered $ 25 worth of food and really no good way to put it- a bit disappointed with quality and serving size. I would suggest trying Cedar Mediterranean restaurant a few blocks eastbound on Monroe Ave. 1 star because the salad dressing was descent.
Yum! Voula’s is the most amazing place. The food is excellent. You can actually taste the love put into each bite. The fact that it’s vegetarian or vegan makes it even better. Take out is fast and easy, and the dining room is very charming when it’s open. Highly recommend. The lemon potatoes and so very delicious.
Between the staff and the food, this is hands down the best place to eat in Rochester! I’m always shocked that everything I order is vegetarian, because it rivals what I’ve eaten in Greece. Don’t let that deter you, I promise you won’t be disappointed! Love both the souvlaki and gyros, and the lemony potatoes are a MUST! My husband always insists we order a dessert, and none of them have EVER disappointed!
This is my favorite restaurant in Rochester. I have never been disappointed by anything on their menu. We love karioke! My gyro plate was very good, and it came with one of the best and most fresh greek salads Ive ever had. Their lemon potatoes are delightful and the gyro meat is so salty and flavorful.
Voula is a home town girl and she has made her Greek Grandmas recipes famous in Rochester. Whether its catering, take out or brunch in her quaint Cafe, youll love everything! She has vegan and vegetarian dishes to please any palette. Give Voulas Greek Sweets a try...you wont be sorry!
Voula’s is amazing. The name “Greek Sweets” doesn’t do them justice. Yes, they have amazing sweets. Most everything I’ve had there has been vegan. (I’m not) You’d never know the difference if that concerns you. The lunch specials are amazing. Voula herself is always there with a friendly smile and warm service. Do you self the favor of seeking out this local treasure.
This place is an absolute GEM!For lunch I usually like to get a Greek salad and the lemon potatoes (which are life changing)For desserts you can’t go wrong with anything but my favorite is the Kok cookie which is an awesome cookie sandwich filled with a rich custard and the top cookie is covered with chocolate.I do need to say that I the last time I was there I saw that they had spanakopita to go... I actually cried when I ate it. It was so perfect, the texture, the simplicity, the flavors. Rochester is really lucky to have a place like Voula’s!
Super rude service. Girl with shoulder length brown hair said we can sit at a table while our take out food was being made. Sat down, food came out and while my wife was still in the bathroom, she came over to me and in a very condescending way told me that the dining room closes in 5 minutes and I cant sit there any longer. There were other costumers in the restaurant still eating, it was very embarrassing. I felt like a second class citizen. We had even left a good tip for her at the register when we ordered. Ruined our experience.
Volulas greek sweets is so much more than a sweets shop. It has a cafe style menu of popular greek fare with the cutest little dining area. They had many bistro tables just waiting for fine weather to allow patrons a breezy, fun place to enjoy their fare outside as well. Two diners were enjoying a meal the day we visited, and they had privacy in the seating area (its tucked away behind the hat and merch display) and their chatter indicated they were having a great time. I saw a delicious looking gyro pass by in the hands of the server. It looked fresh and full. The way all gyros should be.Ive wanted to stop on many a time, and only discovered this little tucked away ROC gem while driving Monroe Ave. From downtown. Its easy to miss, as you cant see it as you head into downtown. Look for their smartly branded Greek evil eye sandwich board side near the sidewalk. They had spanikopita and other hand pies, I will call them, in a warning Case ready for those in a hurry. And many delicious greek sweet treats. I was ecstatic to see the had lemon potatoes on the menu, but it was a bit of a wait for them, and I had no extra time to spare that day. But I will go back and give them a try. They have gluten free and vegan options readily available, and I appreciate their thoughtfulness towards those with dietary sensitivities. Why 4 stars? The server seemed a little huffy, not unprofessional, just a little less than warm. Also, I went in search of baklava that day. It was good, just not the taste I was looking for. It had a lot of clove, and it just didnt go over with rave reviews at my house. The Kataifi was delicious. I think, had my service experience been warmer, Id give this place 6 stars! As someone who works in the field of customer service, however, and as cute, well-branded and nichy ad this place is, I was hoping for a bit more. I could have easily caught the place on an off day, and will go again to make this a 5 ⭐ rating. Becuase I think, on another day, thats probably what it is.
I had Voula’s for the first time today. My dad mentioned to them that he was picking up lunch and dessert for my birthday present and when he picked it up they had written “happy birthday” on the box. Besides the amazing customer service the food was absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to eat it again. Go here. You won’t regret it.
Voulas is one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester, especially for breakfast. You are really missing out if you dont order the lemon potatoes. Everything is vegetarian and many dishes have a vegan option. The restaurant is bright and colorful and is a great place to go on a gray Rochester day.
Been here about 4 times and love it. It’s a small business that makes most of its food from scratch. They can make almost any dish vegan and if you’ve ever been to Greece the food will make you feel like you’re back. If you’ve never had Greek food, you’re in for a treat. The gyro sandwich and baklava are my go-tos and yesterday I tried the saganaki. Yum! I wish Voula’s much success.
I used to go to Aladdin’s for all my Mediterranean— let me just say that after eating at Voula’s I’ll never eat Mediterranean anywhere else, and there’s no better place to get authentic Greek sweets than this place. The food comes quick and the restaurant appears clean and has a warm atmosphere. My only critique is that this place has limited seating as well as can be difficult to get to ie parking. I hope that they will relocate one day and expand. This is a restaurant that deserves to be more well known.
Cute little place with creative decor and tchotchkes everywhere. They offer specials that alternate daily. Portion sizes are typically satisfying. Theyre my first real experience with Greek food, but I definitely see myself going back.Keep in mind they *only accept cash tips* This caught me off guard my first time going and felt kinda bad because I only had $1 cash even though the service was amazing.
Ordered take out for 2 for pick up later. Gyro plate and Mezedes Sampler with hummus. Everything was tasty and delish, and ready on time. One of the best vegetarian eats in #ROC! Special shout out to the lemon potatoes and seitan gyro meat. So flavorful! Thanks, Voulas! Please keep this great place going.
Voulez Vous-las? The Abba tune is appropriate to soundtrack how ravenous with desire I become even *thinking* about this place. I always get the fake chicken wrap and lemon potatoes. Heavenly.I remember the pistachio macaron with lemon creme was most perfect macaron Id ever had the pleasure to bite into. Magical texture, incredible flavor. May the godesses continue to bless this business!
They are great with their customer service and they’re great at seasoning their dishes. Great for vegans and non vegans. I imagine the restaurant mirrors a restaurant in Greece. The coziness of the place and the style of the architecture and aesthetic is very pleasing.
Vegetarian, vegan, omnivore? Whatever you are there choices are delicious!!! Went with a group and everyone loved their choices. I had the french toast -so good! Rosewater syrup is so light and delicious. I had no idea! Love the eclectic dishware and glasses. My guy friends had bachelorette party glasses, hysterical! We will be back.
This place has the most authentic Greek food and atmosphere in town. I have ordered multiple items from the menu and have enjoyed them all! This is a great restaurant option for vegan and vegetarian cuisine. The hours are a little limited but this place is definitely worth checking out.
Voulas is absolutely delicious! I had recently seen people post different brunch items on Instagram and had to go and try it out. I didnt even know that it was right on Monroe Ave, tucked behind the Irish Pub. This is one of my new favorites as they have authentic Greek food, coffee, and desserts! The fact that its also vegan friendly is an added benefit! (:
I used to believe it is was impossible to be perfect...and then there was Voula’s. Every meal is supremely fresh, excellently prepared and insanely delicious. Creativity and passion are behind every single plate of food and it really comes through. If I could eat there every day, I would. Shouts to an amazing restaurant with an incredible staff. Love this place!!!
Just delightfulI’ve had at least a dozen lunches at Voula’s and never had a bad meal. Servers are gracious and attentive, food is delicious and served in a timely fashion. It’s a small dining room but you are not rushed to finish and leave. The portions are generous and everything is cooked to perfection. My only disappointment is that when I asked for extra feta or dressing there is a staggering charge. I won’t take away a star because I think businesses could benefit with constructive criticism.Voula, you have a great cafe. I’d love to have dinner there and hope you’ll open for that service. Waive that extra charge and consider that a fee associated with running a great business! No need to issue a caveat emptor for Voula’s
The food here is absolutely amazing. It is not strictly sweets as the name implies. They offer lunch, dinner, and brunch. Everything is vegetarian, but can be made vegan upon request. I grew up eating Döner Kebab in Germany and the Seitan Kebab wraps are the closest thing to it. I have brought non-vegetarians and thet have enjoyed the food here as well. Would absolutely recommend.
Cute Greek restaurant with authentic food. They had some different items than some of the other Greek places I go to. Lots of desserts!!! I didn’t give it 5 stars because I still like one other place in Rochester better. However, you should go and try it. It’s worth a visit and I know folks who love it.
Made a stop into Bar Bantam for Rochester Cocktail Revival after a long stretch of time without a visit - very foolish on my part! I was reminded of all the reasons why Bar Bantam is so awesome: the friendliest staff, a curated (un-overwhelming) drink menu, and fresh/delicious/healthy comfort foods. This is all in addition to the gorgeous space, which boasts one of the most unique bar/kitchen setups in town.
First, I must tell you Im vegan so this place is perfect for my not vegan friends and myself to go to.This time, my twin and I shared their vegan flatbread special (tofu scramble, feta, and broccoli rabe), their amazing vegan french toast, and the lemon potatoes.I HATE citrus in my savory foods but these potatoes? ... A MUST. theyre so different and have a great bite to them. a much appreciated weird combo.Service has always been great, though if you go on a weekend, there will be a wait. As we waited for a table, a server gave us cookies and coffee. Food always comes out quickly. Everything always tastes fresh and AMAZING.I would urge every one and anyone to try this place. They also have myriad dessert options!
Wow. I havent enjoyed eggs this much in YEARS. Delicious coffee and food. Im about to try the rice pudding, but I literally could not wait to leave this place a great review. Additionally, we were seated promptly. Great brunch/coffee spot!P.S. They have European Fanta
Ive been coming to Voulas for years and its consistently amazing. Its easily in my top 10 favorite restaurants in Rochester. Their vegetarian and vegan offerings are extensive and super yummie! From the spanikopita, to the variety of egg dishes, you cant go wrong for weekend brunch. The desserts are out of this world with truly authentic recipes which include galaktoboureko, kataifi, baklava (including a vegan variety in addition to the regular version), and a variety of cookies. Definitely not to be missed!
Voula is not only a great person but her food is just lovely and delicious. Second hand tables and chairs, tiny statues of Greek figurines, tiny bottles and knick knacks lining the ceiling, and fun silly mismatched mugs complete a decor that has become quintessentially Rochester. The food is vegetarian and vegan but is as filling as any Greek restaurant youll find in the area. And yes, the sweets cant be beat!
Everything is phenomenal. My favorite cuisine is Greek, and I thought Id never be able to fully enjoy it after going vegan. Thankfully, most everything on the menu is either vegan or vegan optional. From the baklava to the seitan gyro to souvlaki sandwich, everything is amazing. Highly HIGHLY recommend!
Today was my first visit to Voulas. I would give it more stars if possible. I had a stuffed egplant that was out of this world. Our waitress later told me that it was vegan. I couldnt tell that it wasnt filled with ground beef, nor did I know that it was a non-dairy cheese (yes, I didnt read the menu that closely ;-) )Their coffee away the Best!Bought some dessert items for later in the day, and just had one. Fantastic.I will become a regular at Voulas!
All had a unique and wonderful taste, served with lagana flatbread. I also got a half order of spanakopita, my favorite Greek dish. It was so savory and good that I wish I had gotten a full order. On to the main attraction, the sweet treats! It was difficult to choose because they all sounded amazing.
Cant say enough amazing things about this place. Best homemade food with vegan and GF options. Always our go to spot for sunday brunch. Kafteri egg sandwich is my favorite but you really cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Definitely try the frappe regardless of whether you are a coffee lover or not. Amazing!
Absolutely fantastic food. Comfortable atmosphere. Totally family friendly. Superior service, Tess is sweet! My daughters said that this is going to be our new restaurant! I am vegan and my children are vegetarian. There is definitely something for everyone here. The spreads are nicely seasoned and the housemade Seiten is the absolute truth! We will totally be regular customers! Thank you Voula for authentic Greek cuisine prepared for vegans and vegetarians!!!!💖
We ordered the saragli and Voulas pourakia.
Favorite lunch place in Rochester. Food is always fresh and beautifully plated. Sweets are always consistently stocked and delicious. The Greek coffee is a go-to for me with lunch as well. The atmosphere is so cozy it’s as if you’re in somebody’s Greek grandmothers house, I love he mismatched tables and the little trinkets near her register. Voula and her staff are so welcoming and kind and make you feel right at home. Also it’s pretty sweet there’s a parking lot right out front which a lot of places downtown don’t have.
Dont be fooled by the name (as I was) — Voulas is SO MUCH MORE than Greek Sweets. Its a full restaurant, and the food is delicious. The menu is vegetarian, which came as a pleasant surprise, as Voula doesnt advertise her restaurant as such. The desserts are a revelation. Of course theres baklava, but thats one of about 15 Greek dessert items. It will take many visits to find a favorite.
Had a very bad experience there recently. Gyro on a platter was burnt, tough as a boot, couldnt cut it. Would have tried to return it earlier but staff too busy chatting in the back. When she finally came to the table, she told us thats the way it is supposed to be. I told her that I had this dish before and it was fine but Netta, front of house manager, didnt care.. Ask for the gyro and underdone, I guess.
There is not enough room here to write all of the amazing things about Voula as a person and as a businesswoman. The food, made from SCRATCH, cannot be compared to any other Greek restaurant in the area. Trust me, Ive worked at several. Voula has a kind, compassionate soul and her bakery and staff reflect those attributes. I also love how her bakery feels like someones home. It does not feel like you are eating near strangers. Even the salt and pepper shakers are fun! You will not be disappointed. Get some melitzanosalata (eggplant dip) on your way out-of-town youre welcome.
Voulas has the best Greek food in Rochester hands down. Amazing atmosphere and wonderful staff. I remember my first time at voulas I choose to eat the lemon potatoes. I took one bite and was shot back to my grandmothers lemon potatoes back in Mykonos. I cried tears of joy, unable to stop eating the potatoes. Voulas staff didnt even bat an eye about the guy crying over potatoes in the corner, they know theyre that good.10/10 would eat every day
Good food, good customer service, would get 5 stars if they installed a kangaroo care in their bathroom. Not having one basically forces a parent to change their childs diaper on a chair in the dining area, on the floor of the bathroom, or in the backseat of their car.
10/10 Best Greek Yaya experience in Rochester Hands DownShould have won best Mediterranean for city newspaper but just fell short due to its hard to find location ---> right next to Park Bench PubGreat place for business dates , regular dates, and non regular datesthey dont discriminate !Voula and her entire staff are just as sweet as their baklava ... Vegan or in DenialIm serious its just as good without butter you have to compare to believe !

2022-04-13I love the simplicity of the food and the flavors of this restaurant. I order the plater with seitan, potatoes and salad. Everything was season so well. For dessert I had a baklava covered with chocolate. Very good!

2021-10-19Amazingly good greek food! My first time visiting and I didn’t know what to pick. It all smelled and looked amazing. There are three tables outside for outdoor eating. There is inside eating too and they do offer table service as well as to go/take out. Highly recommend. Parking can be a bit tricky and busy near lunch time but definitely worth the visit.

2022-06-13Delicious Greek food! The vegan gyro sandwich was fantastic. The lagna bread is so fluffy and delicious. I got the vegan spanakopita as well. The desserts are incredible! Im so happy I got to eat vegan baklava.

2022-05-20Hidden gem on Monroe Ave not far from downtown. Started with the Artemis Palmer iced tea drink, which had the refreshing mint and lime flavor without being overpowering. We ordered the hummus which has a very garlicky taste to it with a little thick chunky consistency that allowed for piling on the pits bread provided. For my main, I ordered the combo with spanakopita, Greek salad, and the lemon potatoes. The lemon potatoes had a slight crisp to them but soft and flavorful. The spanakopita was light with a crispy crust filled with garlicky spinach. For vegetarians and vegans, there are several entrees with a vegan alternative. Perfect dinner option for vegans, meat eaters, and all inbetween.

2022-02-12A very cozy atmosphere inside. Being plant-based, I ordered the tofu scramble and was sad to find it incredibly salty! Great flavor, but too salty to finish. The lemon potatoes were yummy. And the vegan baklava tasted like heaven yum! Im definitely down to try other things on the menu.

2022-06-22Voulas is a true gem. I’m hooked on their Mt Olympus plate, an artful blend of eggs, lemon potatoes and lentils. And their vibe and service is friendly and down to earth. We’ll worth the visit

2021-08-08We love Voulas so much, Id say that its my favorite Rochester area restaurant. As a vegetarian its very convenient, but my meat eating husband also loves it. The herbs and flavors stand out, the atmosphere is fun, and the food is very Blue Zones

2021-09-26I stopped in here for a little brunch on a Saturday. The space is charming and welcoming, the staff is kind and accommodating, and the food is truly unreal. I got the vegan spanikopita and lemon potatoes on the side. Both were so flavorful, balanced, and unforgettable. This place is truly a gem: 10/5

2022-05-21This place is an absolute gem. Ate here with 2 vegan friends, who said this was some of (if not the best) vegan food theyve eaten. My breakfast sandwich with eggs and a spicy feta spread blew me away. The bread is out of this world. And the Greek coffee was perfect. Service was wonderful... Cant wait to go back!

2022-04-11Im obsessed with Voulas, it checks all my boxes: Eclectic decorations, friendly staff, great prices, fresh & delicious food, and all-around good vibes. I recently became vegan, and this place has been my saving grace (although Id give it all up for their Tzatziki dip). My go-tos (although I get something different every time) Kafteri spread on a Mezedes Sampler, Combo Plate, Spanakopita, Lemon Potatoes, Greek coffee (do it for the mug), and ... I cant emphasize this enough... the Melomakarona cookies!! Chocolate covered ones, if youre feeling fancy. My favorite place in Rochester!
