Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. We reserved a table in the lounge and upon being there for 5 minutes noticed a swarming of cockroaches all over the floor. We complained to the staff and all they did was take $30 off our bill. Absolutely disgusting, never going back again and it’s probably time to close down and renovate. A shame that it’s an embarrassing establishment.
Disgusting, shady and dirty establishment that is breaking health codesBooked the VIP room where the bathroom was filthy, toilet was clogged and there were cockroaches crawling in the bathroom. They never unclogged the toilet after we asked them nicely to do so. Room was dirty and cluttered and the ceiling was coming apart with insulation visible. Very shady business practices. They charged my one-time deposit 4 times. They also charge $50 per person in addition to $300 fee for the room, but they don’t communicate the per-guest charge until at check-out.
Best bathhouse in the city in terms of amenities: very hot Russian room, very cold ice bath, and an appropriately cool swimming pool next to a hot tub. The food served here is surprisingly good as well.Spend a day here with friends or come on a Friday evening after work and watch your anxiety leave through your pores (as in, sweat it out). Youll leave with bath brain, guaranteed!
Its a pretty big 2 floor spot with Russian sauna (banya) and other hot rooms, big swimming pool and good jacuzzi. 👍There are 2 hot rooms, infrared room, ice room, 1 big swimming pool, 1 small swimming pool with cold water and 1 jacuzzi. Plus, you can get platza, what I advice everyone. Also, you will have a choice of Eastern European/Russian food and drinks there.I recommend this spa place, enjoy your relaxing time 👌👍
I’m never coming back. I’ve been here numerous times over the years (it’s one of two Russian style bathhouses in NY, so not much of a choice), but today was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I ordered a second carafe of black tea for my table. It arrived and I let it steep for a few minutes. After pouring some into my cup, I noticed it was quite pale. Hm, black tea bags usually steep pretty quickly, but maybe I had to cycle the water for a little bit. I unscrewed the top and started pouring water into my cup and back into the carafe to mix it. On one of the pours, something came out into my cup. Was it loose tea? Wait, but I thought there were tea bags. I look into my cup and it’s a sizable dead cockroach floating there. I wish I took a picture to show everyone here, but I was so disgusted I immediately brought it back to the front. They offered to replace my tea, and that’s about it. I said no thank you. And, when I was checking out, the cashiers were completely disinterested and said they weren’t able to do much. The service was far from customer focused. I’ve also let other things here slide, but it’s gotten to the point where how can a respectable business charge people to relax and steam in such a poorly cleaned place? There were flies swarming every table near us (fruit flies AND the more traditional variety), and I pointed one of the staff to a squashed gargantuan cockroach by the showers in the sauna area. I wish I could say this was the first time… I should’ve wrote a review then too, but a few years ago pre pandemic, I was in the hot-wet sauna (where you pour a bucket of cold water over your head), when I felt something crawling up my leg. It was a huge roach (the kind that doesn’t die on the first slipper hit). That was also an experience here I’ll never forget. I’ve heard similar stories from others. I won’t be coming back here, they’ve lost my business with their poor cleanliness and response. I was with a group of friends who all witnessed this.
This place is not for everyone, but it is for me. If youre expecting the theme park extravagance of Spa Castle or the clinical chic of SojoSpa, then this is not for you. If you want *great* Russian food and an admittedly somewhat shabby break from the world outside, then this banya experience is perfect. Never change.
Was not what I’d hoped for. I normally go to Korean spas and there is an understanding about cultivating a quiet atmosphere there. It was very loud at spa 88, some bros yacking on and on about how much they bench, some loud younger patrons. Only 3 saunas are currently open, which means they are always full (I went on a Wednesday - July 2021). They do not provide complimentary water, which is uncommon in my sauna experience. The building is quite old and not well maintained so I became a bit paranoid about the building material oozing into the air from from the heat. Some ppl kept saying they came 30 years ago with their dad. Didn’t seem like many upgrades had been done since. Unlikely to return.
I would say that client care playing playing big role in serving client as well as place it self.- from inside you can see that owner doesnt care about the place and just let it go as it is. So if you dont care how clean the place and if if well maintained you will like it then- front desk lady has no clue what true customer service mean, she probably still living in the world where dont give a sh*t about client is acceptable.Overall, not more than 3 stars, and this stars are only for idea of the banya in the city. hope the management will take into consideration that sometimes you need to care about the place you are running and make it more enjoyable for customers...
The food was delicious, the facilities are very clean and authentic, and they have a red light therapy room! The people that go there are very respectful, even though the place was full of men, our group of 10 women never felt uncomfortable! It’s a very relaxing atmosphere and our bachelorette party had a great time! Also huge thank you to the lady at the juice bar (Tatiana I think?) who was so quick at managing the whole place almost by herself! She was very nice, efficient and accommodating!
Do not go here. As someone who used to go here for 20 years and my constant praise for the business to my clients... I’m sad to say the no frills aspect has revealed itself during this pandemic. The last time I was at the spa more men harassed me than usual, and I played things out in a friendly way. Until I was accused of “picking up men” by a patron and the owner. When I tried to speak to the owner to resolve the issue I was ignored, dismissed and hung up during a recent phone conversation. When I inquired if the language barrier may be keeping us from understanding one another, I was told by the owner that my business didn’t matter to him and I can do what I want. Hence being here writing this review. I never wrote a review about the rats and the cockroaches or the hundred other times some weird men openly harassed me by following me from one room to another until I would eventually just leave. I never complained about the mold in the steam room defeating the purpose of the steam room. I’m a New Yorker. I accepted the rough edges to find some peace of mind and would drowned out the inappropriate advances from the men and staff. Haven’t ever complained about how they smoke inside and the entire space is filled with cigarette and cigar smoke. That the room for cigars is there but that people smoke everywhere and you cannot deny the stench of stale smoke throughout the entire building. But to have a patron accuse me of soliciting sex when I am the one constantly approached due to my race and appearance in this location by men who want to solicit me! It is demeaning for me to even have to qualify I am not doing so... And have no judgment towards anyone who does. But when I’m constantly left in fear and unable to go places because of the harassment of men and discrimination from other men who will not take care of their female patrons. When I’ve dealt with this kind of behavior at this location for so many years and never to utter a word. For the owner to dismiss this especially in this day and age... And to hang up on me while embracing this other man as a faithful customer... None of this is acceptable. Not when I’ve spent so much time speaking so highly about a place that needed to address their sanitation issues decades ago. Not when I politely called to address and ask for clarity as I grew concerned for my reputation and the harassment and discrimination I faced upon that inquiry. The city is changing and I think it’s about time this place shut down. If they cannot handle situations with respect to all patrons, if they are unable to communicate effectively, they should not be allowed to have any influence in our daily lives. They should not be allowed to remain open while clearly missing basic health code standards. And as I write this I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the way they handled this situation. If they cannot sort out the rats and roaches, why would they do the same in human form? All the more reason you shouldn’t go to this place.
Fairly priced sauna experience. The rooms are just big enough to accommodate a fair amount of people without getting overcrowded. The pool is decently long but only 5 ft deep.. the ice cold dipping pool is conveniently placed right next to the steam room for quick rotstions
My first time to a bath and spa. It was nice. I will say the sauna and steam room were pretty hot. But I felt like I was the only one that thought so. I will definitely go back. The food in the restaurant was really fresh and tasty. Its also one if the lowest priced bath and spas in the city. But also not sacrificing on quality.
I’ve enjoyed this authentic Russian spa in winter months for 23 years. I’ve introduced friends, family and colleagues...ALL enjoyed and returned on their own. It’s simple, grab your towels/slippers or bring your own. The towels provided there are for you to sit on hot/wet surfaces, head covers for heat protection AND are laundered throughout the day. Yes, they are rough and lose their color from the dryers. You can rent a robe or bring your own.Start in the sauna taking quick breaks from heat with quick cold shower For the first 20 min outside of room to open and close your pores. This allows you to tolerate more heat helping toxins leave body. Save alcohol and food for later after you’ve had a few visits to sauna...otherwise you may feel nausea.Alternate between different rooms for variety...however, the most benefits come from the sauna and steam rooms. My only complaint are the younger groups of the inexperienced who now come. You talk too much and are too loud in these treatment rooms. This is not an extension of your lounge table...its to relax...not have conversations. So shut UP inside the saunas!!The restaurant serves very traditional simple Russian food...it’s consistently good and reasonably priced and assorted alcohol beverages. A really good juice bar serving pots of assorted tea blends and snacks. Reserve a cushioned booth for personal space or sit in the open area with tables you can chose to share. This is NOT a “luxury” spa...it’s a cave, and a damn good one!!! The staff is polite and respectful if you are...try smiling and asking them “how are you today?” In all my years, they have never been rude. Also, yes, you “may” see a waterbug...it’s an old building and bugs are attracted to water. I have personally never seen an infestation of them or rats or roaches that I read in reviews. I think people who post these comments had a personal ripe about something during their visit..it is likely you expected too much.I do promise that if you go with a positive attitude and keep the luxury amenities and alcoholic happy hour mentality at home...you will leave feeling luxuriously rejuvenated after a few hours of water treatments and relaxation. And remember, the staff is there to place your orders, recycle your towels, keep the rooms hot ...YOU are in responsible for your relaxation and happiness.
I was definitely surprised with the size of this space. It appears smaller from the outside. Even when you walk in you dont really get a good idea of the size. With that out of the way I will say I treated myself to the body scrub and I will be doing it again! It made the experience for me. My favorite areas are the stream room and sauna. I will say its not a very new looking place could use some upgrades in its appearance but, overall for the price and convenience worth a try. They do serve food and it did smell pretty good however I did not order anything.
Great experience overall! Three saunas of varying heat, cold plunge pool and a cold room. Clean facilities, fresh towels readily available and a fair price. The tea they serve really hits the spot too. The cold room wasn’t as cold as others I’ve tried but still worth using post sauna.
I have been using this Bath House for 20 years. I Love Spa88. Their facilities are wonderful for a day of relaxation. There are so many steam rooms, hot and cold saunas, restaurant on site, Laundry room, FREE Hot towels and Rental bath robes for $6, Olympic pool & Jacuzzi room, also a private massage and Jacuzzi room if needed, smoke room for a break no need to go outside, Ice Machine, lounge areas and plenty of Detoxifying Flu Shot Russian Vodka infused with your choice of Ginger, Horse Radish, Black Cherries, Lemon or Black Berries and plenty of Beer with a Healthy Nice Juice and Fruit Bar Salads Available. Yes this is my go to spot. For Years. During The early day on the weekends its crowded with a very international crowd :0) Everybody is welcomed even children. All for $50 bucks. Food drinks and message extra costs. Ya cant beat it and its right over the bridge in lover Manhattan.
I come here often in the morning mostly to attend my swim classes. Their swimming pool is decent but not outstanding. Its a little small and quite shallow, but it does the job for the classes. The womens locker room seems a bit small to me... There are only about 4 showers, so I cant imagine what it would be like during peak weekend hours here.
I have been visiting Spa 88 for the past 12 years and have been there 3 times within the past month. I have reached my boiling point and will not step foot in here ever again. Lets start with my experience from the past three weeks.3 weeks ago: we reserved a couch for our party of several people - the couch was given away. The waiter, named Dimilyan (long for DEBIL) shrugged his shoulders and said Oh well, what do you want me to do about it. I kept quiet and did not want to escalate the situation. His service was terrible (you have 1 job - soups come with spoons, 5 people, require 5 cups, not 2).2 weeks ago: we made a reservation for a specific couch to fit our party of 7 people. I called several times to confirm the reservation prior to our arrival and referenced back to what happened 3 weeks ago. The front desk said that they are aware of our reservation and we have nothing to worry about. Everything seemed as planned until we arrived there. We are greeted, sign all waivers and proceed downstairs. To my surprise, my reservation was given away. When I proceeded to go upstairs, I ask the young lady at the desk if she knows why it was given away. She immediately becomes defensive and begins to yell telling me that she told Dimilyan downstairs and I should go speak with him.I go to speak with Debil. He tells me that the party was sitting there before he arrived to work; doesnt make any sense since the front desk told me that he sat them. He then proceeds to tell me that I should tell them to move. I laughed and told them that I obviously would not be doing his job and would never allow for him to tell the party to move. Its not their fault that Spa 88 cannot manage their business appropriately. The service once again was atrocious. We ordered soups which come with, spoons and bread. Yet again, he forgets the spoon. Brings the bread, drops it on the table and all over his tray. We ask him to change the bread since he just dropped it on the table and picked it up with his hands and threw it in a plate. Debil asks why? We explain to him that he was just cleaning a table and now he is touching the bread with his bare hands. His response: Well, you know, they dont have gloves on in kitchen either. Again, I was baffled by his response.A few minutes after my arrival, the other half of my party arrived. The front desk did not want to let them in, although we had a reservation. They claim that they no longer allow kids. Shouldnt you outline your new guidelines when we make a reservation? Way to go. We debated our way inside and and all they asked of us was to not go into the pool. Shouldnt you just have said that from the beginning? As we were leaving for the day, they tried pulling the same on another family with a daughter. We spoke up and they allowed the family inside.Oh, and they did add that they will charge our child as an adult if they are letting him in. LOLToday: We walk inside with bottles of water. The usual desk girl is here. She tells us that we cannot come inside with our water and then proceeds to walk around the desk to check our bags. At this point Ive had it. And then from the corner office emerges a 64 beluga whale, called Dima.I couldnt take it any longer. I expressed my feelings and walked out.Dima, your management is poor. Its sad to see that you have dragged the business down the drain at a time where quality of service is of utmost importance. I spend a minimum $400-$500 each time I visit. You just lost that.My recommendation is to clean up your current staff. Patrons should be welcomed appropriately and with good energy. Get rid of the front desk, it was so much better when Santa would work there. We felt welcomed.Get rid of Debil you have working downstairs. Poor customer service and is very argumentative. This not just me saying this. Ive seen several unhappy patrons the last few times. I can only imagine what happens other days. Dont you recognize an issue?
It’s a less expensive spa so keep its not the nicest, there are water bugs and some areas aren’t the most modern. I did the $95 deal and overall it’s a good value. There are several rooms and a large pool. The food is good. The juices are good but expensive, especially if you add alcohol. The massage can be hit or miss depending who you get.
Fascinating NYC experience. I ended up here after a fancier bath house was all booked up. There is no need to reserve at the Wall Street Bath & Spa and it’s a cultural experience all to itself.Three great saunas including an awesome infrared sauna, a freezing cold pool, steam room, pool and jacuzzi upstairs. You can hang out all day, eat watermelon, watch the staff get hit on, watch CNN, chill, eat soup, whatever. The whole cross-section of the city can end up here. It’s slow on weekdays and much busier on Friday night and the weekend. Only $45 dollars for as long as you want to stay. Highly recommended both for the facilities and the experience.
This is a gem of place in manhattan. They have sauna, steam bath, ice cold tank, pool, jacuzzi. Also have a nice little shop to buy souvenirs and bath clothes. They have lockers and a nice restaurant with good Russian cuisine and beer/vodka etc. It was a great find. Reachable by Subway. Would definitely go again.
Went for a birthday to have relaxing time and instead had worst experience ever.Waitress Tanya (blond hair) is extremely rude with attitude. Customer service is terrible. No one comes to clean the table or take order.Facility is dated and need renovation.Towels feels like 100 years old. Time to change!Instead of white they are grey.Paid for 2 people (adult-+kid), but got only one locker. During winter time its hard to fit in( boots and coats).Restaurant- boys were nice, but forgot to make 2 orders.Ordered bronzini and chicken tabaka and they didnt have it, but surely added to the bill. Overcharged by $80 with the food we didnt get!!!Unbelievable!!!!Never again!!!
This is an awesome place to relax. There are several rooms including one with eucalyptus steam, a Scorching hot Russian sauna, a cold room, and a freezing water bath. There is a pool and a hot tub. You can eat and drink in the restaurant area while in your robe. Great place to go alone or with some friends.
Pictures at the website look great but in person, the spa has seen better days. Badly needs an upgrade and a good cleaning a couple times a day.I would have given 3 stars but the customer service was so bad that I am NOT going ever back, especially since I left there with a burned leg and a huge blister.I was sitting in one of the saunas and a metal screw was coming off the bench. As soon as I sat on the wooden bench the back of my leg burned into a large blister. I immediately showed this to the front desk who offered to give me a bandaid and a aloe spray. Now I have a scar.To add, not only was this an absurd thing to happen but they barely apologized and made me pay full price. Only positive thing is that they seemed to fix the broken bench as I showed to them the location.Pros:Good Foodsomewhat authentic Russian Bath experience3 Sauna OptionsOK price for what it isCons:Bad - Terrible Customer ServiceNot cleanDated rooms with rust, broken furniture and mold on cornersWhats with the Styrofoam plates and all the waste? its 2017!
This place is a blast! More than 4 different saunas, jacuzzi, swimming pool, clean showers and bathrooms, rest area is pleasant, clean towels any time.If youre tired of the usual routine and need some quality alone time from a long/ exhausting work day - treat yourself to Spa 88 and just RELAX! Superb!
Words cant describe how amazing this place is. During my 11 day NYC trip I went 3 times. It is a pretty authentic experience, not as fancy or highend as I am use to, however it surpasses other spas with its experience. The prices are very reasonable, the staff friendly, the food amazing (authentic Russian food 🤤👌), all while having a wide variety of services and different types of heat and cold(sauna, inferred sauna, shvits, steam sauna, jacuzzi, ice bath, cold sauna, cold rain, nice pool).Provided for free:-Lockers(with locks),-Unlimited towels (they ask not to take more than 2 at a time, but you can if you need),-Bathing suits, men and womens (I brought my own bathing suit, so didnt use them),-Sandles,-Ice-Friendly staff that can answer questions-HairdryersPay:-$6 for a housecoat rental-Water (cant remember how much this was)-Food, no outside food allowed (except Kosher)-also have a small shop at receptionIt is old(built 1927), so it was different than the modern stylings of many spas, but has an authentic charm unlike any other. So dont expect like marble floors, cucumber water, spa music, or like staff wearing uniforms, its more old school. It is clean, for its age it is very well maintained. The atmosphere is interesting, its mesh of old world cultures with some newer stylings. The Moroccan vibe lounge contrasts with the high ceiling, light coloured bar/restaurant/relax area that has all sorts of Russian art and carvings, which contrasts with the relaxing pool area that looks maybe Greco-Roman (maybe?), suffice to say it is an experience.Definitely try the Platza for an authentic Russian massage service; you get hit with oak branches while laying in super hot sauna, then jump into an ice bath, doing this 3 times, then you wrap yourself up and relax until your body temperature is normal again. It was super awesome.Truly an amazing and unique experience, super relaxing and great health benifits. It is a window into the multiculturalism that creates New York City. Fantastic authentic experience!
I would go there every day if I could. Its very authentically Russian (a little grungy and funky) but its one of those things that everyone should at least try. Do not wimp out and skip the ice cold plunge pool - its the whole point of it! The extreme hot to extreme cold throws off toxins and gives the lymphatic system a hard reset. Seriously, its life-changing! Id recommend reserving a booth in the lounge - its well worth the $25. Youll have your own private couch and table to nap and eat - its fantastic. The food is real Russian peasant food and its hearty and delicious. The borscht (Russian beet soup) is to die for and the palmeni and vareniky (dumplings) destroy any Chinese dumpling spot - period! This is some real old-school New York s#*t!
I visited Spa 88 in March 2018 for a VIP couples massage and spa package with my SO, and it was just MISERABLE. The staff was unorganized, uninformative and unprofessional. Navigating the place was confusing and awkward with inadequate and unclear signage or instruction. And the whole facility was SO DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY!!!!!!! As soon as we descended into this stinky armpit of a spa, the stench of humid BO was overwhelming. The dirt, grime, and mold were so apparent on every surface of this place, I didnt feel comfortable sitting down anywhere, let alone using the facilities. The lighting throughout was harsh and fluorescent... not at all relaxing. The VIP room was sad, dark, and drafty (the whole spa was drafty with uneven heating - I was constantly shivering), and it had a dusty pool table, poor lighting, a TV and speaker system that didnt seem to work and had no instructions on how to operate them, an ancient plastic hot tub with water that stung my legs when I ventured to dip them in (wouldnt dare immerse my whole body), and lets not forget the ash tray on the table left FULL of CIGAR ashes. Despite all these horrors, since my SO had already paid for it, we stuck around for the couples massage, which was pretty good, though the dungeon-like massage room was cold and not at all relaxing atmosphere. The ambient music CD they played for the duration of the massage was cheesy and the audio quality was poor, and it looped several times. I didn’t dare try any of the food, but there was LOTS of food trash (little plastic condiment cups, forks, plates with food scraps) lying around the place uncollected, and it did not look appetizing. Also, there’s a dog in the reception area who will bark and bite at you if you get near him (there are warning signs saying not to pet him). As much as I love dogs, I don’t think it’s sanitary to have them wandering about a spa. Needless to say, I will never be returning to this garbage dump of a spa.
Just went in March. This place is great. For $40 you can enjoy the facilities. Which includes steam rooms, sauna, whirlpool, pool, cold room, infrared room, cold dip pool, pool table, smoking room lounge area fruit bar restaurant. They provide locker towels, may have to pay for a robe depending on your package. They also provide flip flops. On top of the amenities you can also get a great massage depending on what you pick.
Myrlene is awsome!!! Best massage i ever had.Had an amazing experience! When i say she got in there, she was amazing. My body feels like new.Deffinatly going back!!! Also recommended affordable products to use on my skin. Great customer service. The girl that checked me in was very nice also. Great architecture! True russian barh house. Lots of diffrent rooms. I was amazed. Thanks Myrlene! Your amazing
If you want to get rude service and get robbed this is definitely the place to go. All the employees were rude at all times. My locker was trashed while locked and my stuff was taken out including my wallet through the holes they have cut in the lockers. Nobody is willing to do anything about the situation and the employees just shrug their shoulders. You order food and then they tell you that it already came when it never did. This place will do anything to get all your money out of you, including completely robbing you. Will never go back here again and will not recommend this place to anyone.
I go here every time im in NYC and drag all my friends. Good steam rooms. Staff is fine. Call ahead book a massage from the Chinese woman, shes amazing and will tell you off for your bad posture :p FYI women...if you are very sensitive about being ooogled by random dudes this may not be a great place for u. Theres at least one guy that will hit on a female in my group quite unabashedly, every time we go. Not the places fault, but just letting u know. Also like many Russian bathhouses they will often have groups of rude drunk russian dudes who I always try to avoid (its a big enough place).Food it nice. I always get the fish soup and herring:)
The only thing that was nice about this place was the different things you could do, and the fries. Other wise everything else was horrible. The massage was a rub down, the private room was a sex den complete with a oily jacuzzi. Against my better judgment my husband talked me into trying it. A few days later I had an infection! Wost place I have ever been!
After going to other bathhouses in the city my manager told me about this one so me and group of friends checked it out. I will say i like the space and the lounge area was nice. I do wish they had more of a selection for the suana rooms. But overall I really enjoyed my experience. Would definitely go back
It used to be undiscovered and hardly crowded. I love just chilling out in this hot bath environment. All kinds of people go there. There is no status here. Its all about tuning out and relaxing. If youre not picky about little things, this is the place. Today, its always packed but still gives me the relaxation I need. They still rank #1 in cheese blintzes.
The is the worst sauna i have ever been in. The service is horrible. The place smells like a sewer. The showers had mold all over it. Roaches all over the place. They tried to charge me for a massage that i never received. The manager of the place looks like a 20 year old kid that has the worst customer service you can ever find. towels are old dirty yellow stains smell like they have never been washed. DO NOT GO HERE YOU WILL DEF REGRET IT.
Get your schvitz on!This place has all of the essential needs for a bath house steam room, cold dunk, hot stone... Im pretty easy going on Staples like this that are still able to survive in lower Manhattan, but they need to up their game on cleaning. Not sure what frothy mess was in the pool the day I went and avoid the ice room it just smells like mold...not sure I will rush to return, but I will go back.
It is a solid Russian bath house. Good heat in both saunas, though they can get very crowded in peak hours. Good food and service. A little stingy with the towels. And a bit of a draft in the very cold. Not the best banya in New York but certainly the most conveniently located.
Dirty and not well presented at all. Place is small for what you spend its not worth it the only hot bath is a small jacuzzi. The cold small pool is dirty that day nobody used it. Hair in the small pools and no music at all to make atmosphere in not even 1 room. Found stairs and painting staff next to the big swimming pool that were really bad to see. Didnt have the chance to check the spa/treatments.
Smells, pools dont look clean and not much customer service to speak of as front desk/juice bar was mostly unmanned. VIP room was decent for privacy but with a terrible jacuzzi and a leaning pool table. A plethora of loud patrons also made for a very non-relaxing experience. Avoid. Forgot to mention the roaches...
Clean. The hot parts are very hot and the cold parts are very cold. A little too extreme for me, actually, but I think its probably appropriate for a Russian banya. Good food. My only complaint is that all the customers are shouting at all times. Not a place to relax. Do 15 minutes hot, then 15 seconds cold, then 15 minutes in the shouting lounge - very invigorating.
Great place that has a variety of baths/saunas to choose from: Russian, steam, infrared,.. There’s also a cold room, a cold pool, a regular swimming pool, a hot tub and a restaurant serving Russian food. The admission price allows you to stay as long as you want. The midday during the weekend gets crowded, so move your hours towards morning or evening. They provide towels and slippers.
Being pregnant and not allowed to go to the steam rooms I was there for just the food accompanying my friends. Did not even have a swimming suit to change to. However, Spa88 charged me the full $45 entrance fee in order to allow me to sit with my friends. The other option was to be alone at the restaurant. I have been to many spas in my current condition and this one was the only one that charged me an entrance fee.
This place hits a new low in customer service and overall appearance. Extremely horrible sanitary condition. Something one can only imagine in a third world country. Roaches and mice found visible in locker rooms, kitchens and common areas. The food is absolutely disgusting, except for the watermelon. it appears the workers are forced to work under substandard conditions and are manipulated by the owner Dimitry Lerner and his wife- tough guys wana be! This place should really be shut down and bared from ever reopening. STAY AWAY!!
This place requires renovation in every aspect of the service they provide. I agree with the other review that cleanliness is not their priority at all. Potentially, this place might provide pleasant atmosphere, but I wouldn’t recommend to visit it until they renovate it.
I have been visited them couple times. The customer service is getting worse and worse. Especially the stuff of Thursday. The attitude of the receptionist and the lady in the kitchen were very rude and racist. The last visit made me very upset and I don’t even want to visit again.
If you like Rats as big as cats...This is the place for you...I spoke to the manager about this..He just shrugged his shoulders..I suppose the rats like a bit of heat too..As they come up from the subway..then go for a bite at the second floor kitchenNY wildlife..Ultra rude and check your wallet before you leave..Go to Seagate in Brooklyn they are rude tooBut never saw a rat there.
Rustic is the word that comes to mind when I think of Spa88 (aka banjia ) but dont let the grime in the changing rooms or the confrontational attitude of the staff and some of the clients deter you...this is an original authentic Russian bath, if youre not ready for this go to castle spa. The food in the restaurant is also Russian, if you cant handle it eat out.

2022-05-16A very fun experience. I did the platza (where they swoosh oak leaves all over you in a super hot sauna). It was a great way to relieve stress. The steam sauna made my pores feel so clean. The fresh juice was good too!I will visit here again next time Im in NYC!!!

2022-03-29Lets face it, if you are going to hang out with friends at a real sauna and bath house, you better be ready to have some fun. This place delivers with a sauna thats the hottest Ive ever sat in and a steam room you can cook lobsters in its so darn hot. I left feeling might supple and relaxed. Great spot to hang with friends for the day and of course the home cooked food is fantastic.

2022-01-25This place is awesome! My friends and I have been looking for the perfect banya in the New York area and this one takes the cake. Unlimited towels and a massive locker room with a big place to chill out in between. They have two different temperature saunas and a powerful steam room. They even have an pretty big ice plunge and an ice room give your body the shock it needs. Upstairs they have a private smoking lounge room which is key. A massive swimming pool as well as a jacuzzi. My friends and I will definitely be returning soon and I recommend you give this place a try. The service by the food area isn’t the best. But it’s part of the Russian banya experience 😼

2022-02-18Disgusting 🤮! This place was absolutely disgusting! I came here with my bf for my birthday to relax and get my soul back until I came here! We were eating at the tv area when a cockroach crawled up on to the table! It was over crowded with each sauna smelt like dirty socks. We order two cups of the flavored vodka witch were 12 oz they charged us $160! The cold dig plung pool look like a dirty bath tub, you can see the color of it literally! My locker was broken and went to the front desk with two lady’s there , explain the problem and she was a complete B to change my broker locker! I will be reporting them to the health department! Spent 330$ for the day and I still feel unclean! 🤬

2022-05-05Love this place. I wish the front desk staff was nicer and that they had more than one masseuse. Overall it’s an affordable bathhouse experience in NYC. I go about once a month.

2022-04-10Google maps says they close at 11 pm. I paid an Uber to get there and meet friends at 9:30 pm. Instead they close at 10 pm. I used my phone to show them the listing says 11:00 pm. I asked if a discount could be applied to the $55 entrance fee for me because of this confusion. They said no, and treated me disrespectfully as if I was being irrational. A simple and respectful no would have worked for me. I love this place and coming back, but wish the rude staff could be nicer to people.

2021-07-03It is nice place to visit to get russian authentic banya aka sauna experience. 4 sections with dry heat, wet heat and turkish hammam. Also 2 restaurants and one lounge to het rest during (between) banya sessions.Beside bath experience you might find russian beer, russian snacks as dry bread or white fish jerky. And long wall of celebrities who visited the Bath - from USF fighter Khabib to Harlem-chief Marcus Samuelson. But overall, the place is seem a bit used and tired. As long as you can walk with that, you will be all right.

2022-02-02Awesome rustic underground get away in the heart of Manhattan! The ice bath and the freezer compliment the steam room and saunas perfectly! The orange juice and cheesy meatballs are my go to snack. Not so relaxing when crowded, avoid peak hours. Bring your own slippers and leave your towel at home. Deals get closed in this joint!

2022-02-21Greta place for body and soul! Banya is one the best in nyc. Love the place, has big pool, jacuzzi, smoking area. Very good food. A place to spend 5-6 hours to relax, eat good good and jump into the ice cold pool.

2021-11-15Definitely coming back here throughout the winter and all the winters to come. Great atmosphere of people enjoying themselves, and delicious orange ginger juice. The place could use some love, like renovations and such, but overall it fulfills its purpose, very straightforward. I’m really glad we have this in the city :)
