Washington Jefferson Hotel in New York
Positive: Location Negative: Called to see if I could check in early. They took my number but no one called me back. Rooms very sparse. No glasses or cups. Shower curtain extremely flimsy and would not stay put. No bottled water. No ice bucket. Room cards had to be redone.
I stayed 8 nights in a small but comfortable room with a very nice washroom and importantly its an amazing location for Broadway - the furthest I had to walk the entire week was 13 minutes to catch a performance. The rooms at least when I was booking in May 2022 do not match the photos shown online which you should keep in mind to manage your expectations. Everyone working there was very nice to me throughout my stay! The wifi though, at least up on the 6th floor, is insufficient for remote work and video calls will not be successful at all - it frequently disconnects, goes down, or slows to a crawl interrupting anything from just trying to refresh slack/basecamp messages to watching netflix in the evening. I frequently needed to hotspot so if youre looking for a workcation like I was you should plan accordingly or consider other options.
Great location because it was close to Central Park, Broadway theaters etc.On the other hand, the street was always filled with garbage and smelled of weed, as did the entire city. The entire hotel was very run-down, and except for the two doormen we encountered, who were very nice, the ladies at front desk were very serious, barely smiling, barely helping and always gave the impression of doing the bare minimum, if not less.
- Staying here at the WJ was overall a quite disappointing experience and, relative to other midtown stays, poot value for money. And beyond the usual warnings common to many hotel stays in Manhattan two gotchas to watch for that arent properly disclosed in booking sites like Kayak or Priceline that I looked at:1) It turns out that their studio rooms are extremely basic, more like SROs than standard hotel stays.2) There is now an extra resort fee payable on arrival and (despite the hotels false insitence it was well-advertised) not disclosed on any booking information I saw beforehand, nor any post-booking e-mails, nor most website Ive quickly looked in for it now. At ~$14/day its not huge, but It doesnt seem to justified for the basic breakfast coffee etc., and those who mind late price surprises or without a compelling reason to specifically stay at the Washngton Jefferson may want to pick one of the other many options.
Positive: Nothing Negative: It was nothing like the pic online the Tv from the floor was dusty. The matters was on top on a flat plywood where if u move the matters move. The shower was so small I was surprised. Fromm all the hotel I been to in the city this was the worst one.
Definitely sign up for one or more of the Streetwise NY walking tours, offered at no cost for guests of Triumph Hotels. We really enjoyed our tour with Andrew (Times Square/Rockefeller Center). This offering, along with neighborhood location, cleanliness, staff friendliness/helpfulness, boutique vibe, are all reasons we would recommend the WJ to friends and family.
The hotel was very nice. Especially the receptionist lady there. Ive only stayed for 1 night. But the room was nice and cleaned and organized. Only problem was that there was one outlet that doesnt work, but the receptionist us know before we can head in. Hallways smells amazing, and its a bit quiet at night.
I had no problems during my weekend Broadway getaway. Location is PERFECT! Room was clean although on the smaller side. Bathroom is spacious ( I really enjoyed the jet tub). They held my bags for just $2 in the morning while I waited for check in that afternoon. Would stay here again when I come back
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were accommodating during our stay. The rooms were very clean, bedding was clean, bathroom was clean. The location is perfect. Parking garage is close, a little pricey but hey its in time Square so thats to be expected. The room was very small and the only outlet I could find was in the bathroom but we were only there to sleep so didnt bother me any. I would stay here again.
Absolutely NOT worth the original price that I was charged. Yeah, the lobby looks nice and pretty, but the rooms are an eyesore. The pictures displayed do no justice AT ALL so do not fall for it. The first room I was in was tiny as hell and after only being in it for 40 minutes I had to run out after seeing TWO mice in the room. NOPE NOPE NOPE! I was moved to another room and while it was a little bigger than the first it was STILL disappointing. Not only was the door lock broken, but the shower handle came off and the bed was small and EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Even after I was charged a lower price for what I dealt with initially, this hotel is NOT it. Yeah, the convenience of being near Rockefeller Center and Times Square are a plus, but the view is of the apartment buildings next to the hotel. If you want to sleep in a room that looks like a shelter room go ahead, but the prices they charge DO NOT make any sense at all. Definitely WILL NOT be going back ever again.
I’m a solo traveler who just stayed at this hotel for 3nts, my first time in NYC. Rooms are small but I expect that in NYC, plus being solo not like I had to maneuver around anyone else. I did have an issue with my cable not working when I first checked in, but it was fixed within minutes soon as I called the front desk for maintenance. I loved that they are just a short walk to everything all while being tucked away on a quiet seemingly safe neighborhood street. I walked around by myself solo and didn’t feel unsafe once. Other than check in I didn’t have too much interaction with staff, but overall I had a good stay here.
The staff was beyond friendly, courteous and helpful! We had my 85yo grandfather with us and they were so helpful in making sure he had a room he could get his electric cart in and out! Helped us print our broadway tickets… overall the rooms were pretty good, very close to everything, it was less than a 10 minute walk to right dead center time square. Rooms were very clean and there was an elevator for anyone who needed it.
The hotel room was so dirty. There was black mold in the shower, stains on the carpeted floor and walls and it was clear that the sheets were not changed. It is advertised online showing the ‘renovated side’.Prime location from Times Square but it was so dirty I had to go out and buy sheets and Lysol wipes. Do not recommend.
This is the honest truth no feelings involved. I gave the 2 stars for the staff they was very pleasant and helped me in any way they can. They hotel itself is a hard pass. Has everyone said the rooms are small like you have to walk sideways in some areas. It was not clean very well there was hair all over the shower and dust on everything. My sheets and towel smell of mildew and I had to ask for a new ones. Even the room smell of mildew. It was very unpleasant. So if you looking for that hotel feel this is not it trust me. The pictures are a lie book with cation.
WJ was a lower price than other places in the area so we gave it a try. Great location in Midtown and near many restaurants and theaters. The staff were very nice and helpful. We arrived quite early and they were able to check us in. The room (a 2 bed queen) was very nice with a large bathroom. The mattress was firm, which we liked but others may not. The room had a small fridge as well. They have a discount with a garage half a block away on the corner of 8th. No breakfast is offered but they had free coffee in the lobby. Overall a very good experience.
Bed feels like a rock. Room so small for even 2 people. View from the hotels window was a wall from another building. Plus they will charge some extra fees even though you book it from any third party program. I got my booking from expedia but they even charged extra as hotel policy for me.
This place is a DUMP. found a RAT running in my room. Yup that’s right. RATS RESIDE AT WASHINGTON JEFFERSON HOTEL. I was completely shocked & disgusted. Ran to the front desk to complain only to be met with laughter from Omar, the manager. Yeah the hotel manager felt it was hilarious that his hotel is infested with rodents. I felt so disrespected, had to seek refuge in the middle of the night at a neighboring hotel. Do not stay here unless you like living with rats. Also, room was filthy. Sheets were dirty. Hair all over towels. Bugs crawled in bathroom. Room had a rancid smell. I wouldn’t dare walk on the carpet barefoot. Weird smell. Bed foam was DISGUSTING. looked like it hadn’t been changed in ages. I was totally grossed out. Stayed here a few days. Front desk was incompetent. Completely rude. Except for Dobrine & another woman, they were helpful. They also double charge your card & add a bunch of nonsensical fees that they don’t notify you of when booking, so be careful.
Very disappointed with the booking. Price was comparable to other hotels but the hotel room was very small. Actually I felt we were in Japan’s efficiency. The room we booked was a standard queen. The room had a wierd smell and carpet had a wet stain. The painting and furnishings were very old. The bathroom had a handicap seat. We had checked late at night and stayed one night of stay. We asked the hotel person to please give us a different room which he did. The second room was even smaller but had less smell and bathroom sink was extremely small. Wont be booking here for the money. Belvidere hotel just 2 blocks away is same price and same rating but much better management and staying experience In my opinion. We know this because we booked that for the in laws same trip. Hope the review helps. If you’re looking for a motel and have a strong respiratory and immune system you may book this place for location, but you’d have better luck with a different hotel.
This hotel is a quaint, historic building located in a fantastic part of Hells Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan. Its very affordable considering the location. My fiance and I have been spending the past few days here and have no complaints. I have had reliable access to free wifi so that I can work remotely from the room which was honestly the most important thing for me, personally. Its surprisingly quiet at night time as well. Please note that if you are looking for a generic, Marriott or Holiday Inn hotel experience, you might want to look someplace else. As I mentioned, this is a quaint and historical building and the rooms will be much smaller than your average, more recently built corporate hotels. I chose the Washington Jefferson because of A)location, B) price, and C) actually having a personal bathroom rather than a communal one. If you are in NYC for the pure NYC experience, then this might just be the perfect place for you. If you are looking for more square footage and corporate American comforts, then perhaps consider one of the pricier, more mainstream hotel choices around the city.
Clean, very very small, the softest towels and wash cloths, very pleasant customer service. I found parking in front of hotel on street (no tickers or towing this trip for me) although they do partner with a garage for a fee. Walking distance to time square. No ice machine in building, coffee in morning, no breakfast. Got a decent deal on priceline express deals... I will use again if I have to.
Don’t waste your money here. Don’t fall for “renovations have been made” lol we paid triple the amount to stay during Halloween weekend just for our AC not to work. It was great sleeping in 80°F. Also housekeeping is no where to be found so good luck trying to get more towels. Our room phone didn’t work. The area isn’t too nice either. The list goes on. Just save your money and look elsewhere.
The worst hotel Ive ever been. There were so many problems that I had to leave in the middle of my vacation and go to another hotel. The room is tiny there was no place even to put a suitcase; They never cleaned up the room and did not even throw out the trash- “because of coronavirus”- they said; The staff does not help in anything; And many more other problems; Not worth the money.
Rooms are very small. The bed was broken in several places and just sitting on a board because the bed is to large for the frame. I had to move the mini fridge because the outlet I was on controlled the light switch. when the light was off the fridge wouldnt run. There was a visible layer of dust of multiple things in the room.to much money for what you got.

2022-06-08Stayed 1 night in room 336 which was a Studio Queen. Room was extremely small but I was alone so it doable. The bathroom was lovely. Room had a closet, safe, and a fridge.Stayed 1 night in room 635, Deluxe Studio King and it was great. Bed was comfortable, had a desk, fridge and closet and more space. Bobby at the front desk was very helpful in allowing me to check in early since my room was ready. There is a gym on the main floor with the bare essentials. Just a treadmill, elliptical, bench, and some free weights but I was still able to squeeze in a nice workout on both days. Location was fantastic. Close the subway, lots of food around, and not too far of a trek to the entrance of central park. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would stay here again.

2022-01-24Overall our 1-night stay was good, the front desk was nice, we felt safe and were able to check in and out quickly. They hold bags at $2 per bag. This place is great for somewhere to stay mainly to sleep and store your things as the rooms are small. Its only an 8-minute walk from times square and even closer to many theaters. We stayed in a standard queen accessible studio room. It was only slightly roomier because it was an accessible room which I accidently reserved on a booking site. Room included a corner nook, two bedside tables, a dresser w/ small tv, closet & bathroom. Because this was an accessible room, it had the same bathroom floor for toilet and shower throughout (obviously or it wouldnt be very accessible). Id recommend flip flops for showering. No fridge in there so takeout probably wouldnt last long. It looked clean upon a first look and it was fine but there were some stains on the carpet and loose appliances. Overall wed probably stay there again. 3 stars because Im picky but overall it was a decent stay and affordable. Thank you front desk!

2022-05-27Very Disappointed stay having had to change hotels after my original hotel was not available due to work being done there this hotel was highly recommended . The photos of the rooms are not the same photos I saw but once again you only show the best photos to get people to stay there . The room was dark very small window view non what so ever the only view I had was of some courtyard and other windows with rubbish on them . The bed moved all the time due to it being a mattress on top of a wooden box storage was minimal doors need painting fridge do not know why it was there as there was no kettle kept me awake due to the noise . The lamp by the bed to switch it off you had to climb over the bed for the light switch . Shower curtain seen better days . Charged a resort fee for who knows what which I find a joke as there were no facilities there stayed in 3rd word countries with better facilities . i doubt it very much I will stay at this Hotel branch in any country ever again . This Trip was suppose to be special as I was celebrating my 50th this year and wanted to visit New York this stay really made me feel disappointed and I feel that I have been over charged for a stay that should have been special .

2021-11-16First time staying at this hotel, chosen for its availability (I booked shortly before arrival), location ⭐️, being a few short blocks from the theater I had tickets for, and it’s group, Triumph. The room was very small even for NY standards, no closets, just pegs on the wall, Queen size bed and bedding was very comfortable ⭐️ with two drawers in it’s frame. Two small metal night stands and one metal chair. Barely enough room for our two small carry on size bags left on the floor. It had a window that looked out to a courtyard and the walls surrounding it. The bathroom was a comfortable size and the room and bath were apparently recently renovated giving both a clean fresh look. It contained a Wall TV, phone, no clock, hairdryer, and the minimal bathroom supplies. K Coffee in the lobby although not until 7am.Upon arrival we were asked if we wanted our sheets changed daily and we felt that was not necessary although we did request fresh towels for our 3 night stay.No one entered the room so we ended up removing our own garbage and leaving a used pile of towels on the bathroom floor.Staff was friendly and accommodating ⭐️There was some construction going on above us accounting for some noise, surely a temporary thing. This room, a Superior Queen is definitely for a minimalist.

2022-04-19Positive: This was my 1st time in NYC and even though I knew the rooms would be small, it was still a shock HOW small. But luckily, the hotel & room were clean, the staff were kind, and we didnt spend much time in the room anyway. Overall a good, affordable stay!

2022-02-27I can recommend this place enough. Is close to absolutely every thing The minute you walk in is like the entire place give you are big all hug. I can explain it. It just had an amazing Arora. The room are typical size if a regular new york room. It was ultra clean. The check out is 12. Latest check out of any the hotels I stayed at in NYC. There is a Japanese restaurant right in the lobby. But all you need to do is walk out side and you can find any thing g and everything you stomach could crave. The price range is between 100 to 150. The reception person was amazing and answer all question and had great advice to give. The house keeping staff came around 11 to clean the room so I asked for later Cleaning time and was acomódate without a problems. The bathroom water pressure was fenomenal. This is so important to me. There no tub for those of you who like bath, sorry, but the shower was amazing. The bathroom was mega clean. One more thing they do keep all covid guide line. From mask to plastic covers on the remote.

2022-03-07Good location and price, but this is a no frills hotel. Not a single frill. Smallest hotel room is my life. But it got the job done. (Okay, one frill: my otherwise nondescript room had a jacuzzi tub for some reason. That was awesome. They dont all have one)

2022-05-04This is a clean hotel near Times Square. Its VERY small, but this should be expected in NYC. It is probably the smallest room I have ever stayed in. I was traveling for business and alone, so it worked out fine for me, but would I stay there with my wife? No. Coffee in the morning is a Keurig that they set out. I was charged a $13/day resort fee on checkout. There is no way that this hotel is a resort. I was not offered anything outside of my accommodations besides the Keurig, so I guess I paid $13/day for coffee that I didnt drink?

2022-05-04Positive: The hotel is clean and in a great location. It is small but this is to be expected in NYC. Negative: The coffee in the morning is a Keurig machine that they set out in the lobby. At checkout I was charged a $13/day Resort Fee. This place is not a resort. Was the fee for the Keurig?

2022-07-06The room was exactly what we needed and clean. The only issues we had were that the AC was turned off when we checked in and the temperature in the room was 81° F and the noise of the cooling unit outside our building was a bit loud. At one point the video on our in room TV went out and they were quick to fix it and provide for any of our needs. We will be coming back in the future.
