Wellington Hotel in New York
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was way more affordable compared to other hotels in the area. It’s a bit older, but the rooms are bigger than most other newly renovated hotels. the bed was comfortable, the toiletries were high quality. The service was great. The first room we went into had a bathroom issue and they changed our room as soon as we called the front desk. Great service, great price. It’s not the W, nor does it pretend to be. But who spends all their time in their room? I would book here again
Just the facts: Their website is very polished and things look much nicer than they really are. The carpet everywhere is old and gross…even in the rooms. The bathrooms are renovated and very bright and nice, albeit small. I spoke with them on the phone a few times and they were mostly nice, never over accommodating. The woman who checked us in was unfriendly, boarding on rude and certainly doesnt care about her job or the guests. The woman who checked us out was cool, not even approaching tepid. Matthew the doorman was outstanding in every way. Thoughts: Three stars is being generous, the staff could have made it a four. Matthew belongs at a better hotel. I dont mind funky, clean, and nice. Cant do funky, dirty, and rude. We stayed in another hotel the next night and it was a different universe. I dont like leaving these kinds of reviews, but people have to know.
Stayed for 10 nights, good option for a budget hotel in midtown. Staff are friendly, although they wouldnt let me store my case in the luggage room overnight the day I checked out (I was moving into an apartment in NYC). Room nice enough, clean, good view over central park (ask for a high floor on booking.) Hotel in general needs updating as wear and tear shows. Id stay again in my situation, but probably wouldnt recommend to people coming for a holiday as there are more modern hotels around the same price point.
Well, the place is actually quite decent, prices were OK, the stuff was SUPER friendly and the rooms more than ok. You must be careful with the thermostat cos the room can easily turn to a boiling hot, also be patient with the shower configuration. I would stay there again without a doubt. Location was really amazing. Central Park was like a 5 min walk and also Time Square was another 5 min walk downtown! You cant really beat that, can you?!
I LOVED this hotel. The location was just perfect. Not only is it walking distance from Central Park and Times Square, its also just a lovely hotel. From start to finish the hotel staff were brilliant and helpful. Our bed was super comfortable and the hotel room was perfectly sized. The only issue we had at all was the fact that we couldnt figure the shower out, which was our own fault. I was concerned having read the other reviews of the hotel about noise and slow elevators, etc.. but I found check in fast, the elevators were fine and I was so happy with the cleanliness of the room. There is a shuttle bus which runs to all the NYC airports which was so so handy. The price was brilliant considering the location and the service we received. Also its right next to a Subway Station huge plus!
Would definitely recommend this hotel. The rooms were small, but to be expected of a N.Y. hotel. It was very clean and well maintained, dated, but nostalgically so. Towels were a little small and thin, but no biggie. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. As part of your hotel fee you get a pass to a local gym and spa, as well as a voucher for a free manicure nearby! Definitely a nice bonus.
The whole place looks like it’s falling apart? Our room felt like 80 degrees and the heater made so much noise all night it drove us nuts. The bellhops were the opposite of friendly. The service at the check in desk were very nice though. I paid the same amount last year at a different hotel during Christmas time and it was beautiful and a completely different experience. This place would’ve been worth it if it was cheaper
We booked at the Wellington because we needed a hotel in a great location that offered 3 separate beds in 1 room. The Wellington is pretty much the only hotel in Manhattan that offers a 3 bed/1 room situation with fairly reasonable prices (a 1 bedroom suite that has a King and Queen with a pull-out couch in the living space). Our experience was made better when the receptionist, Edward, gave us a great deal after we asked him about discounted rates through our insurance. The room was very spacious and convenient as it offered a dining table, kitchenette, plenty of desk space, 3 closets, and tvs in both the bedroom and living area. We needed the extra space because we were traveling with a large manual wheelchair, so the room fit our needs perfectly. The downside for us is that the hotel isnt the most accessible and there was a lot of construction going on while we were there. We had to ask staff to lay out a folding ramp every time we wanted to enter/exit the hotel and there was only 1 working elevator that allowed us to get to our room, which was pretty small, as were the hallways. The window unit air conditioners were a bit noisy and leaked, and the room didnt feel the most clean. Reception is also understaffed and housed in a small window space, so we had to wait in line when checking in and out. For what we paid though, it was a decent hotel.
Nice hotel currently under renovation. Not all rooms has been renovated. We asked to be moved from one room to another because the bathroomwas dark, old, and seemed very dingy to me. Also the power went out twice when the breaker tripped when I was blow drying my hair. We were moved to a nice room, brighter and the bathroom was newly renovated. The front desk was most helpful and gracious about our complaint. Great location, close to subway! Perfect 4 day get away! We will definitely come back to stay again.
We stayed one night as two couples sharing a suite. Great price (~410) for this arrangement for a peak weekend stay. The room included a king and a full, with the foot of each bed facing each other (this was a little unexpected but fine). The suite was spacious, with plenty of room for the four of us to loll about in the sitting area. Everything felt sturdy and fairly updated. Our only issue with the room was noise from what sounded like a radiator--pretty loud clanging through some of the night--we all noticed it and basically slept through it. The hotel is incredibly well located for the standard tourist activities: short walks to Times Square, Central Park, Broadway, etc. It appears to profit from volume; the lobby was often over crowded with guests and luggage. Bell and valet service was slow. Valet parking was convenient though and seemed well worth the price ($35) to us. We would definitely stay here again.
Great location if you want to be in midtown next to all the buzz. Hotel is clean and comfortable. Didnt have much contact with the staff but the housemaid was very nice.Only negative for me was the air con. It didnt work when I wanted it to. It was cold in March April and I needed a little heat in the room and it just kept blowing cold air. I did report and they did send an engineer to look at it but thats all he did, look at it and left.Tea and coffee making facilities would nice. The cafe downstairs is very busy. The one across the road is far better. Try the 9 ten cafe across the road too.
We are back again at the Wellington hotel to celebrate the Holiday season. This hotel is perfectly located in Manhattan close to central park and Time Square. The rooms are always clean they have great suite options and the service is top notch. They have 2 great restaurants and offer free manicures and free gym access. Affordable parking is another great feature. 5 stars
Absolutely do NOT stay here if you are handicapped. My mom has MS and uses a motorized wheelchair. When she booked the hotel, she was told it was handicapped accessible - it was not. There are stairs to get inside and the doormen assembled a very rickety, narrow ramp which she had to use every time we entered or exited the hotel. (Which is not only embarrassing for someone in a wheelchair but incredibly time consuming and unfair) then, I almost completely left when I saw the size of the elevator... it is so old, outdated, and SMALL. Her chair barely fit in it, let alone me and our luggage. The hallways are pretty narrow as well.Im giving this one star simply because of the room - it was spacious and comfortable enough, despite the fact that the heater was broken, toilet overflowed after one flush, and we received double beds instead of queen size.Overall, the hotel is not in good shape. Needs some serious remodeling, a more understanding staff, and a total makeover before it is up to ADA standards. Absolutely will not stay here again.
Decent prices and great location..room was small and dated but not different than most nyc hotels..no control over room temperature and room was very hot. water temperature in shower is inconsistent... goes hot to cold constantly, like youre in an old house and someone keeps flushing the toilet and then running the dishwasher..customer service was pretty good..would not stay again because of the room temperature and water temperature issues.
Very good value for such a cheap hotel. Very clean rooms, nice lobby, helpful staff. Our room was very small with no extra amenities, but its great for someone just looking for a cheap comfortable stay in Manhattan. The shower was very difficult to use, it seemed like it would either be 90° or 40° no matter what I did, with no in between.
Great place to stay while in NY. The room we stayed at had enough space for two people along with luggage for a week. The room even had a small bathtub, however we only took showers in it.The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was walking distance from Times Square and a couple of streets from Central Park. There were 3-4 vegan restaurants in the vicinity, which made eating breakfast easy. You will definitely get the city feel if you stay here.Picture: view from the hotel room
The hotel is clean, staff are helpful. The hotel room is the largest Ive ever been in in my life (!) We got a suite which sleeps 4 people. The air conditioning works well and isnt noisy. In our room the plumbing judders a bit and makes noise when showering, but its an old hotel and is currently undergoing renovation. We were very happy with the room. It is quiet at night. On check in they charge a $20/room resort fee, which gives each guest high speed internet access, access to a nail bar and a gym. They also charge a $100 deposit which is returned when you check out. The hotel is non-smoking and they will fine you $250 if you smoke in your room. The gym is located outside the hotel, 5 mins walk south on the same road. The gym has classes throughout the day and a pool. To get access to the gym you have to ask at reception for your pass.
Great hotel for the price! The rooms are small, but I was able to get 2 rooms for the price of 1 anywhere else in Manhattan. The place is in need of renovation, but its an excellent value, especially for NYC!The location is absolutely unbeatable. . . midway between the Park and Times Square. There are tons of restaurants, bars and shops within a few blocks, including all-night dining options. The cafe attached to the hotel, however, is not recommended and the opposite of good value. But, there are plenty of better nearby options. They are in the process of renovating, so I hope this doesnt increase the price. We will be back if it doesnt!
Fantastic location for Times Square, Central Park and Theatres, subway right on the doorstep and bus stops nearby. The decor was fitting for New York and it felt like we were staying somewhere unique. The only downside was the lack of a fridge and coffee / tea facilities but there are plenty of options all around the hotel.Reception staff were very helpful and friendly.Would stay again without question.
It was ok. You couldnt have any heat because they turned it off throughout the entire building. It was construction in front of the building. They still charge you to park at the icon parking deck. (Thank God we found one that was cheaper two blocks down). I wont be booking there again tho.
Not too great. After finding that we couldn’t get into our room until 4 despite getting in at noon, we were forced to wait. When it finally was 4 they charged a “resort fee” on top of having already paid for the room even though this is very much not a resort. They also charge $20 for amenities which pretty much is the WiFi and toiletries. There was always a wait for the elevator. At night expect to wait something like 20-30 minutes just to use the elevator. Although they advertise a free breakfast we did not receive one. Room service is astronomically priced for what it is. Also rooms are very small and there seems to be plumping issues as there was a loud pipe-like noise every time we tried to use warm water. On the plus side this hotel is in a great location.
Street construction is noisy even though were on the 18th floor. Old hotel but nice and clean. Great bed and sheets. Good enough. Just dont like the extra resort fee on top of the nightly rate. They charge you at the hotel when you check out. Big con: shower can go from hot to cold. Hard to keep it even temp. Elevators so small. Sometimes you have to wait a few times to get on.
The rooms are very spacious and this hotel is in the perfect location! We were impressed by the size and shape of the rooms and would definitely stay here again. My only suggestion is to expand the checkout space a bit as it is small, crowded, and always busy. Otherwise, great place to stay!
If you are thinking of visiting New York City for the first time or as a seasoned vet, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a centrally located hub in the heart of the city at a reasonable price and are mainly looking for a room to sleep in and freshen up. The hotel is a short walking distance to Times Square and Central Park along with the easy access to the subway along with reasonable rideshare fees anywhere we were going. Unfortunately, That is about the best thing I can say about the hotel. The price is arguably lower than many of the other hotels in the area, but keep in mind every day there is a $20 charge on top of whatever you are paying. We stayed in a standard room, and it was tiny with an even smaller bathroom with limited space to put your toiletries. The rooms window looked out to the brick wall of the building adjacent. Our room was also frigid at times, and the heater did not seem to work correctly.Another thing to note is the heater was not controlled by a traditional thermostat and instead required turning a gas knob open or closed. Not to mention when it did turn on it would make horrible creaking sounds at random times of night. The walls are also thin, and you can hear other guests outside your room. We were woken up many times from other guests going in and out of the fire door in the hallway. Another inconvenience we experienced was the extremely slow elevators and found it faster to walk down to the lobby from the sixth floor. To reiterate, if you are looking for a conveniently located room at bargain prices and are willing to look past the shortcomings of the room, I would recommend this hotel on the location alone.
Location fantastic!!! 5 minute walk to Central Park, 10 minutes to Times Square. At our time of stay there was lots of building work going on. The rooms look nothing like their website. The rooms are so small with no cupboard or wardrobe space whatsoever. Our family of 4 had to live out of our suitcases for the week. Staff VERY impersonal. Quite happy to take a resort tax off you ($20 a night) but dont tell you what you get for it. Park Cafe (part of the hotel) is very expensive, use the deli opposite on the corner.
Stayed for my 30th birthday. Worst experience. Ill never stay here again. Only the security and car service employees were nice. Desk staff completely rude and had ZERO EMPATHY. They were under extreme remodeling (not sure about that) construction so it was dusty and a bit noisy downstairs. The room itself was okay not horrible but Ive stayed in cheaper and cleaner hotels for sure.
Wonderful large rooms with comfortable beds. Ideal for large groups because of the amount of rooms available. The staff is quite friendly and understanding; the doormen are phenomenal. However, the hotel has 5 elevators but going up and down floors in the mornings or evenings still takes 10min or so of wait time...
Location is great. the hotel is old (or historic 😄) and suits are big and have kitchen and a big closet. bathrooms are small. we had a comfy king bed. the rates are great. 1 hour late check-out is allowed for free but 2 hours cost you $35+tax. the bellboys are older men and they are mostly stubborn and rude but helpful.
We spent 2 min waiting the check in which was fast and easy. A polite gentlemen helped us with our bags and had someone sent to the room to adjust the heat to our liking. The room was clean, bathroom was updated and loved up to the photos online. Amazingly, we could not hear our neighbors next door! The bed was comfy and pillows were sufficient. We will definately be coming back. We couldnt believe the quality for the price. A+
One night stay. Convenient location, of course. But, with one elevator out of service, and other computer glitches, it took nearly an hour after arriving to get to one of our two rooms, since one wasnt ready at 1 pm. The gym is a few blocks away. The rooms are reasonably comfortable in the nostalgic hotel manner, but small. I wouldnt vouch for the cleanliness of the carpets, and the AC unit was noisy and hard to regulate the room temperature.
Hotel is more dated than photos appear, value represents that - so expect what you pay for. That said, location is great and staff were great. It was extremely warm in the elevators, which move very slowly. Not great for a hot summer time. AC in rooms and lobby was fine.
This was my second time staying here and it has been great both times. My only negative is how long the elevators take, but its really not that big of an issue. The rooms are always clean. The staff is also very nice and attentive and moves with efficiency. I cant wait to stay here again.
Clean and tidy room, seemingly nice staff (a little grumpy, but not rude). Beds are comfy and the bathroom is clean. Not one cup, fork, knife or plate, but we have a microwave, fridge and cupboards! These are redundant and unusable without utensils. Entrance to the building is being renovated so its a little gloomy, and there is no wow factor to the reception. Overall, a nice hotel and worth what we paid. Go to the Ritz if you expect the Ritz.
The room was clean, but definitely dated and small. Location was great for us, right on the N, Q, and R, and a block or so from E line. Walking distance to Gershwin Theatre and Times Square. They lost our reservation, even after confirming a few days prior. Elevators are slow and cramped, plan extra time for leaving during peak hours. Overall, a bit pricey but it was clean and convenient.
The location is fantastic. Just south of central park and less than a 10 minute walk from times square. Accessible to Subway transportation. The rooms are slightly outdated and very small. They are still nice and the beds are extremely comfortable. WiFi is not free which is a big drawback. Overall, I had a nice stay.
The room was okay, the shower wouldnt stay hot at all and the air conditioner was broken when we checked in. The staff did fix the air conditioner as quickly as possible which was very nice of them but it shouldnt have been broken when we arrived. The bathroom was nice but small. The lighting was noisy for some reason... And there was a dead bug on our ceiling that they overlooked. The location and price were about the only things that really saved our experience.
Location was fantastic! The room was quite small and dated but it had a huge comfortable bed and it was clean. There were roadworks right outside our room and they did it all night. We did speak to reception who gave us some ear plugs and that helped. There is a cafe attached and unfortunately the waitress we had was quite rude. I asked for a poached egg on toast but it arrived very under cooked as if the egg had just been cracked, not cooked. I politely mentioned about the egg. The waitress kind of grunted and took it away. When it came back it was perfect but we never ate in there again due to the waitress.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Wellington hotel. The location is absolutely perfect close to all subway lines you could possibly need and even walking to Central Park and Times Square was very easy. The location for the price cant be beat. The room was incredibly clean and well kept.Staff was so nice and welcoming and helped me with any issue I had.It was safe and I have no complaints at all. I do recommend.
The absolutely only thing I could say about this hotel is that it was cleaned. 1st, it’s customary if a hotel is under construction that they provide a heads up as a courtesy. They did not. (2) When I arrived, they made me fill out a travel form (NYS residents are not required to fill out a form....I’m an NYS resident). (3) the rep didn’t tell me ANYTHING about the hotel like dining options or the customary speech that one normally gives. (4) They didn’t service the room. Had the green sign on the door ALL day. Left around 8:30am and got back at 4:30 to find no one had serviced it. Went down to the front desk and all she could do was apologize. (5) Called down for wash clothes, toilet paper, cups and ice and after 15 minutes, they delivered the wash clothes and TP but didn’t have the cups or ice. Said they would go back to get it and then came back with just cups.....still waiting on the ice and it’s been over an hour. It’s not hard to have good customer service but they get a big fat 1 star. WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN.
Let me start with the negatives:1.) The biggest problem we had was with the water in the shower and sinks. The pressure was so strong it felt like we were being pelted with hail and the water couldnt make up its mind on what temperature to be; melt-your-skin-off hot or freeze-to-death-cold!2.) The rooms are out dated and in need of lots of work. The room we had was fairly large, but the lighting was horrible and flickered and made a weird noise while the radiator next to the pull out sofa sounded like an animal was inside it!The positives were:1.) The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything. The lobby is really gorgeous compared to the rooms.2.) The beds were very comfy!3.) Even tho the rooms were out dated, it was still very cozy and very clean. If I stayed in Manhattan again I would stay here for the fact that it is in close walking distance from Central Park and Time Square.
My family stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in September, 2019. The location happens to be good. (55th and 7th avenue). That is the only thing I can say that was good. The rooms are very dated, were were charged $20 per day for a resort fee. There isnt a gym on the facilities. They give you a voucher to go to a local health club a few blocks away? Only 1 elevator was working at the time we were there. I dont enjoy giving poor reviews but with so many other options in New York, I would stay away. I hope management reads these reviews. They need to invest in their product. I hope this is helpful to others who are considering staying at this hotel.
I was arriving from the airport around 1030 / 11:00 and no one was at the front desk. A man sitting in the lobby took my temperature and asked me to sit down and wait until the person at the front desk returned from their break. Excuse me? It’s 11 pm . The room is paid. So I waited and while I was waiting booked another hotel and walked there to check in. When I called to ask for my money and cancel my reservation they lied and told me that they couldn’t cancel nor return my money. I will never be booking a hotel reservation again through this hotel. Awful service and waste of time.
Bottom Line: A good choice of hotel if luxury isnt your primary concern. The location is the biggest pro. Right next to a subway station, its perfect for using as a home base during your sight-seeing in New York. Minutes walk away from Times Square and Central Park.I stayed here with my wife for 10 days as part of a trip to New York Comic Con. The moment you walk in, its clear that this place is dated. They are actively undergoing renovations, however Im doubtful that it will be enough to completely reinvigorate the hotel. Old carpets, elevators, and furnishing make you feel a bit like youve entered a time capsule. In a way its actually charming. And despite the outmoded appearance, it is kept clean. The staff are friendly and attentive. For example, upon our arrival the lights in our room were an issue. They struggled to flicker on and made a continuous shrill buzzing noise. It was truly obnoxious. We informed the staff at the front desk and they quickly offered to send up a maintenance worker. After taking a look at the lights, he determined the ballast needed to be replaced. As it was already late in the evening, they offered to replace it the next day and were quick to offer us a new room if that wasnt convenient for us. I truly appreciated their accommodating approach and explained that as long as they can take care of it the next day, then it wasnt an issue for me. The next day I came back to my hotel room to find they had fixed the lights as they said they would. The room was small and had a less-than-stellar view of a neighboring building. It came furnished with a mounted flat screen TV, a small desk, and a storage cabinet. The bed was comfortable as far as hotels go. The walls were a bit thin. I certainly heard my fair share of footsteps, people dropping things on the ground, doors closing, and some late-night activities, but it wasnt enough to disturb my sleep. The biggest annoyance I experienced was the occasional wafting of faint cigarette smoke into the room. Im not sure if it was from outside or a neighboring room. The hotel has a no-smoking policy as far as Im aware, so I dont blame it on the hotel per se.Overall, I felt safe in this hotel and the neighborhood, even late at night. I slept comfortably, more or less. The convenient location was perfect for our trip of sight-seeing. The experience wasnt anything to write home about, but it wasnt a bad experience either. As a side note: The hotel has a diner attached called the Park Cafe. I recommend avoiding it, if possible.
Great place if you’re on a budget. This isn’t the classiest hotel ever but is conveniently located near Central Park, a subway station, Carnegie Hall, etc. It offers good value for money. We were here during a really really cold winter. The room was warm but weirdly there seemed no way of controlling the temperature. The bathroom got pretty chilly though. There’s a nice restaurant and a diner joined in to the hotel, so it’s convenient if you’re tired and don’t want to go out.
Great authentic American hotel, expect waits for the lifts and the receptionists not to be the most helpful, after asking day after day if a parcel had arrived, on the last day I said I knew it had arrived and then finally they went further than their desks to look and found it! The attached diner is typically American, menu is varied and service was generally good. Rooms themselves are okay, little out dated, more storage space wouldnt go a miss, otherwise good value for money, would recommend and would stay again.

Lets start with the pros, the receptionist gave us 5 days free WiFi since we we stopping 10 days. The room was clean and the staff very friendly plus great location. The door man was very good at hailing down taxis, we were very grateful for that. Now for the cons, of which sadly there are many. The room was very small and the bed uncomfortable, I woke up with aching back and hips every day. The cleaning staff do not seem to understand the meaning of the DO Not Disturb sign, as a couple of times they attempted to get in when we had put the sign out. The toilet made an ungodly noise every single time we flushed it and sometimes it got stuck so the loud clanging and banging carried on until we could fix it. It got to the point where we said no to flushing it at night so as not to wake up one another. The room service phone kept randomly ringing at times and when we answered no one was on the other side. Lastly, the diner within the hotel had rude staff, and the food was disappointing as it had little to no flavour and after all that I got ill from eating there. So overall I cannot recommend this hotel, especially if you are stopping for a while.
Clean hotel with plenty of space right in the middle of the tourist atmosphere in Manhattan. Rates were fantastic for Thanksgiving! We were close to the parade route and were able to check our bags during the parade, and while site seeing during the day. We were extremely happy with the deluxe double double room, and even had 2 bathrooms, which made getting ready in the morning very easy! Would definitely stay here again!
I love this hotel. I have stayed twice on girls trips and it will stay my go-to when I visit the city. The location is awesome, two blocks from the park and easy walking distance to the theater district, which is my main priority. The hotel is beautiful and historic, the rooms are very clean and spacious and the restaurant being downstairs is so convenient.
Me and my partner stayed in this hotel during December time. Since it was December time, you can imagine that the prices were pretty high. For two nights we payed around $600. Pretty cheap considering that it was a very short walk to times square and it was extremely close to Central Park as well. As soon as you walk out of the hotel, you can make a left turn and then youre in times square after a short walk. The rooms were also in very excellent condition too, they were clean. Although we paid for the cheapest room, it didnt feel too cheap. It was cold and wet outside. Coming back into the room made me feel very cozy. I will say, for the money you pay for this hotel it definitely is worth it. I recommend this hotel if youre new to NYC, then stay in this hotel! Its very easy to get back to and only a very short distance from many attractions.
Stayed here for 4 nights in December .. Amazing location, close to Central Park and so close to times Square, in the middle! I would highly recommend this hotel. Very cosy and warm rooms comfy beds. Staff were great. Across the road you have cafes so you can pick up a bagel on the go or theres a restaurant down stairs if you prefer, its brilliant. Will definitely will be returning
Excellent location,Good value for money,Convenient transport options. The location is fantastic, very close to ***y attractions and places to hang out. Picture shows the view from the windows room: Times Square is very close by. Room is ok, clean enough and with a very comfortable bed. 3 metro lines are max 3 minutes walking distance. Quite old doors, forniture and building in general as well as the hall. Wireless internet is not included and is very expensive. Recommended considering the downside!
We stayed a week at The Wellington. We really enjoyed the location and the view. Their customer service was awesome and their house keeping was also great. I would definitely recommend this hotel as it is family friendly. They do not offer complimentary coffee or food, but it is fine as there is a coffee shop across the street. The rooms are large and the beds were very comfortable. We stayed in a suite and it seemed like a big one bedroom apartment!! I would definitely recommend this hotel and I could not have asked for anything more!
The staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are comfy and spacious. Its in a great location to walk places but also the hop on bus service picks up and drops off directly outside. The Park Cafe is lovely with friendly staff and they offer room service. Highly recommend this hotel! Great service for a great price.
Friendly, helpful staff who looked after us well during our stay. Decor is a little dated but adds to the charm. Stayed in a two bedroom suite with two doubles, a single bed plus a microwave and fridge. Although the air con/heater was rather noisy the comfortable beds made up for it. Great location really close to times square and central park. Subway station outside and a starbucks across the road what more can you ask for. Lovely hotel for a great price.
We stayed here for three days and I absolutely loved the location. We were a couple of blocks away from Times Square. The rooms are a bit snug but worth it. The check in process was fast. They do not offer complimentary WIFI and do not have a fitness facility. The concierge was very friendly and always went above and beyond to help us. I had a pleasant stay.
Love! 3rd time staying there (March 2014/January 2015/September 2015) and I have not been disappointed yet. Great prices! I have had 3 different types of rooms and they have all been clean, decent sized and comfortable. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable and friendly! PERFECT location for the subway, central park, broadway, times square and all the great attractions but also not completely in the middle of the tourist traps. I will always stay here when in Manhattan!
This hotel was very ... average. It’s an older spot and the rooms are tiny, but that wasn’t a huge deal. It doesn’t look as old as it actually is on their website though, I will say that. We had problems with the AC the entire trip, it just wouldn’t work. Thankfully, it was February and chilly so we popped open the window. The hotel itself is in a great location (walking distance to Times Square, Rockefeller Center and other touristy spots) and has it’s own restaurant - the food there was good. It’s priced well so if you’re okay with staying in a less luxurious spot, this is the place for you!
Decent. Pictures theyve put lie, Im afraid. As reception desk is nasty(stuff all over, not in place) and place itself not so clean.Service ok. Issues with their communication. As evening shift fixed our breakfast order and in the morning we had to do it all over again, with different person behind the desk.Rooms are fairly good, best part of the hotel.
Staying at the Wellington was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at!! We called and asked for a room with a refrigerator, and the woman was very sweet and said she would give us an upgrade to a newly modeled room. We had one of the best rooms - room 318 over looking 7th Avenue! Yes, there is noise, but that is part of the charm! It was a two bedroom suit! Spacious, clean, the bathroom was gorgeous! All so new and upscale! The hotel was very accommodating as we arrived earlier then 4:00 and they put our luggage in storage. The bell hop was very sweet, the doorman was charming all the way down to the concierge who booked the shuttle for us to get to the airportNow, the location of Wellington is FABULOUS! 10 minute walk to Central Park, 10 minute walk to Times Square or Rockefeller Center! It is in a great neighborhood with two New York delis perfect for breakfast!I higher recommend the Wellington. It is a charming New York Hotel!!!
The hotel seems quite old, but good refurbishment. The staff are nice enough to help you. The rooms has no fridge and you cant control the temperature, which is a let down. The location on the other hand is great, especially as its near top tourist spots, times Square, central park, Rockefeller center.
The Hotel Room was awful & eyesore. It was smaller than college dorm. The building was much dated & not exactly as the pictures depicted on their website. I had requested for 2 beds for 4 people & I was provided the world’s tiniest room. The bathroom was 6*5 & none of the online pictures showed that smallest bathroom. When confronted they asked me to empty my room & store my luggage in storage room & only allowed me in another room later in the evening. I was technically paying for room price all this while. The next room had bathroom which had a wall right in front of the toilet pot because of which any normal height person couldn’t sit straight on the pot & have to sit sideways. I took my in laws & it was very annoying experience. I did not have enough energy left to confront the service desk & move the room the second time with my family & all the luggage I had. I was there to enjoy the NY city & not waste my time packing bags & explaining my issues with the hotel. A/C &TV channels were not working, carpet was stinking & wet in few spots, resort fees $60 they had no such facilities of resort.
Service was great. Good location with a subway station right outside, close to Central Park and Times Square. The hotel is a bit dated though. The lifts are very slow, often skipping the floor you are waiting for. Air con wasnt very good, most of the time pumping warm air, even when turn off.
So we decided to go Cheap on the room for the weekend because we were never really going to be in the room. BAD IDEA. First off, cheap was $400 a night, but its NYC, thats to be expected. Room was clean and staff was good. Our Room had no thermostat, and at night it was very very hot. The Heaters made the loudest clicking noises all night that you literally count not sleep. Elevators were so small that maybe 4 people could fit In them. Great Location.
Hotels in Manhattan can be insanely pricey but I got this one for a great deal that was posted on a budget site. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially with my voucher situation. They were very patient and kind. The room was cozy and elegant, just a 5-10 minute walk from midtown attractions like Time Square or Central Park. Id recommend it to anyone staying in Manhattan.
I put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door but the room was still cleaned and my $400 fake tooth I displayed in the bathroom counter was missing. After a month of communicating with security manager and front desk manager, I was told it was an accident and no one knows what happened so the hotel is not taking any responsibility of it. Very disappointed and will not stay there again.
I loved this hotel. The service and the information provided, everything was wonderful. I had my best vacations ever in New York and my stay became even more enjoyable thank to Wellington Hotel. I recommend this hotel for it has excellent facilities and all the place itself is really sleek and stylish as well. Great hotel. I did really enjoy my stay here. Thank you Wellington Hotel. You do an amazing job. 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I absolutely LOVE everything about this hotel. Its older which means you have more space and a lot of charm. We stayed in a suite which had a king bed in one room, 2 queen beds in another room, a kitchenette and nice size bathroom. The rooms were extremely clean and kept up daily by housekeeping. She left extra shampoos, conditioners and soaps daily which was a plus since we are a family of 4. As I read other reviews about how the hotel should update the decor, extend the elevator etc I feel sad because that would take away the charm. There are plenty of places to eat very close by, Times Square and Rockefella Center are a walk away. We will definitely stay here again.
We will definitely be returning to the Wellington. We had a beautiful suite at an affordable rate. The location was perfect for walking to the theater and accessing the sub way. The Wellington has a glamorous feel to it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My only word of caution is the store attached to the hotel.Dont buy ticktets to any show from them they double the rate.
People were very friendly and helpful. Hotel was very clean and beautiful with its histotic charm. The hotel is very centrally located. We saw a Rangers game at MSG and did a food tour of Greenwich village. My first time in New York City. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. My experience was awesome. Thank you for making my experience so pleasant.
Great location and a fair price compared to other hotels in timesquare. Some problems though would be the rooms are small but I suppose thats New York for you. Also, the showers are incredibly annoying because the knobs for our bathroom ran water that was either scalding hot or freezing cold. Definitely a major reason for the 3 star rating because it was an everyday issue. (Even applied for the sink) overall, I enjoyed the hotel for what it was and would possibly return.
Great location , average hotel. Overall I would prefer to spend a bit more for a nicer hotel in a similiar area but it would be fine if you won’t spend much time in the room.Pros: Location ! Only about a 10-15 minute walk from Times Square and directly adjacent to a subway stop, you can’t beat it ! Rooms were cleanCons: Bathroom does not have a fan, rooms were small and overall underwhelming for the cost. Long wait times to speak to the front desk and customer service could be better : for example , they wouldn’t send us up eating utensils unless we ordered food from the hotel restaurant.
The lobby was the nicest part. Stayed here with a group while traveling and it was probably the most memorable bad hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The location was great but the room was terrible. Heating/AC (when working) was so loud that it woke me up every single night. Bathroom was pretty scary and the caulking that held the bathroom window frame in to the wall was so old that if I pushed to hard I could actually move the entire window out of the wall a bit. Maybe this was just my room, but a couple other rooms I visited were much nicer.
Excellent place to stay..10 minutes walk to Times Square -could see the video screens from our room, and 2 minute walk from Central Park. .Staff behind the desk helpful and friendlyVery reasonably priced rooms always cleaned every day by hotel staff..No complaints at all and would definitely recommend the Park Cafe, situated next door to hotel. Breakfast every day there always hot and fresh, inexpensive and staff welcoming and friendly....
When we first walked in it smelt like a dead old person. The room wasnt clean, the bed wasnt made and there were dirty dishes in the sink. We complained and they brought us to another room. The bell man was the nicest person I have me in New York City. Welcoming talkative and very nice. We walked into the new room and it was clean it very loud. Hard to sleep, but comfortable. The wifi cost money and so does breakfast. The Elevators are slower than molasses. We stood in the hall waiting for the elevators for almost 5 minutes.
Under renovation but they operated without a hitch. Have stayed before and will continue staying here when given the opportunity. Rooms are unique, we enjoy that. Affordable despite being blocks from time square. They associate with a local gym that unfortunately you pay $20/day regardless of use. We used it but I still dont like being required to pay. Other than that, no issues.
Fantastic location, friendly service and traditional feel. Despite some of the slightly out-of-date fixtures and furniture in the rooms, this hotel offers a luxuriously relaxing environment to make your stay in NYC as comfortable as possible. Only downside was a broken elevator; we were forced to haul our very heavy luggage up the stairwell.
Website is very deceiving. Staff is very unprofessional and rude. Rooms are small, outdated, and smell old & musty. It’s horrible. Elevators are slow and amenities well lets just say they are lacking. I do not recommend this place. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. If I’m going to spend money in your establishment you best be courteous!
I stayed here for 4 days recently with my wife. The atmosphere of the property is top-notch. A team of professional staff are ready to offer their expertise. The entire property was spotless regardless of the time of day. All in all a good hotel in a good location with great transport connections.
Over all a good stay. Tried to confirm reservation and ask for an early check in the day before our stay. Direct number had something wrong where I could only hear every other word. The 800 number stated a mail box had not been set up. I opted to email the reservation desk to accomplish my task. With no response by the end of the day I tried the direct number and was able to connect with minimal interference. The reservation representative stated they would do their best to accommodate my request of an early check in.We arrived @ 1 PM with the hope of using the valet parking advertised on the web site. With the front of the hotel obstructed with construction we opted to use a nearby parking garage. I recommend you contact the hotel directly to inquire about valet service. At check in we were informed that we were upgraded to a suite (sweet!) but the room wasnt ready until normal check in time (4PM). With our event starting at 3 PM and ending at 9 PM this was an issue. They offered to store our luggage, which was acceptable. When checking the luggage in the valet went to check on the room availability. He returned in short time to tell us the room is now available. Extra tip for him. Room was surprisingly nice and a good size. Pictures attached. That was the plus side. Down side, heating pipes banging VERY loudly at night. Almost like hammers on the pipes inside the wall. Room was very warm with no way to regulate the heat. Had to turn on the window AC to cool the room. Outside temp was @ 40 degrees. There was no shower curtain on the curtain rod. Had to use towels to catch the water spillage. We were hit with the resort fees but couldnt do anything about that. Over all our stay, although quick, was acceptable. The upgrade was an unexpected plus and appreciated. We would recommend this place but encourage you to contact them directly to ask about any challenges that might effect your stay. The location was perfect for our trip.
Staying here currently and it is amazing.. highly recommended.. staff are amazing, understanding and respectful.Great location.. literally 10 minute walk from most attractions.Beds are soft and so comfortable.. for all the walking you will be doing the beds are perfect. All the way from england I feel safe and secure here. Would recommend to anyone
I enjoyed our stay here but there was a few little things I missed. For example only one side of our bad had badside table, the window had a bed draft, and the heater element /radiator wasnt easy to use. These things didnt stop us from enjoying our stay. I liked the old 90s new york style of the hotel. Thank you for this experience and I will recommend thus hotel to anyone anyway.
Ive seen some mixed reviews, but for the price couldnt really pass it up. Decent location, 10 minute walk to the heart of Time Square. The staff are pretty friendly. Hotel itself is very old, but they do a good job of keeping it classy, there is no A/C in the halls only in the lobby and rooms. I had a two bedroom one bath suite, quite small but I was only their to sleep. In one of the rooms the A/C stopping blowing cold and of course it was the night before we left so there was nothing we could do. Elevators are very small as well, no more than 5 people can fit in one. I usually just took the stairs down. There is a small restaurant next to them and if you pay a bit extra you get a voucher that allows your to eat for free as long as the meal does not go past $15. Seeing how I was in one of the greatest cities on Earth with many different restaurants I opted not to get that package. Overall good place if I ever come back to NYC Ill most likely come back as long as the price is right.
Wonderful hotel! Our room was clean, and better than expected. We had reservations for one room for four people. Ended up with a converted room that had two bathrooms. This is an old building, it has its quirks. But its been well kept over the years. The staff were friendly and helpful. Close to times square and Central Park. Highly recommend staying here!
The hotel was what to be expected in terms of size. The room was rather small and old, of course no refrigerator or microwave. Room service was very expensive: pancakes, eggs and bacon $55 for 2 people. There was a banging on pipes ALL NIGHT LONG! This is why a 3 and not a 4. It was a great location though, walking distance to everything! Im 6 months pregnant and the walk was pleasant and easy.
5 star for excellent service from checking in to checking out. We stayed 5 nights and one was as good as the other. Ray especially was very helpful and advised us on the best places to eat and drink. Very good location walking distance from majority tourist attractions and subway. If staying in New York this is the place to stay.
This place was probably great 50 years ago. Its showing its age now. Not bad if you can get a good deal & you dont plan on spending a lot of time in the room. Its a very basic hotel, no extras at all, not even coffee in the room but its an alternative to a pricey NYC room.
Based on previous reviews we booked with the Wellington. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. The elevators took forever. The rooms were clean. You couldn’t control the heat in the rooms so they got extremely warm. The front desk was understaffed in the morning so it took a long time to check out. We won’t book at this property again, but it did have a good location.
Very much enjoyed our week long stay at the Wellington Hotel in NY. Our first visit to New York and we were looking for a hotel that was better than the likes of the hostels but did not break the bank. I would definitely recommend the Wellington. Its a bit dated in terms of the lobby but theres something quite nice about the style that they have kept. The location is FANTASTIC. Just a few streets one way to get to Central Park and a few streets the other way for Times Square. We were lucky in that we were given a room on the 27th (top) floor which had a lovely view towards Central Park. I dont know if any areas or floors of the hotel are nicer or more dated than others as I only stayed in one room... Therefore I can only comment on our room, 2746.A couple of photos from our window are attached to this review (one zoomed in!).The only negative we had was that the water pressure in the bathroom is rather awful and about half way through the week the shower stopped working. However, we reported this to reception (who were extremely polite) and by the time we returned it was working again. The water pressure remained on the low side but its not something that was going to effect our stay and I certainly wouldnt mark the hotel down on it (especially as we never complained about getting it sorted).Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel based on our experience with the 27th Floor, the staff and the location.
Hotel is old and full of character. The staff was lovely and I enjoyed it there very much but dont expect the Plaza! The bad:Our bathroom sink drained very slowly, the heaters bang like someone is dropping bowling balls and a mouse got into my trash. To be fair, I cant blame them for the mouse: Id forgot food was in my trash and I refused housekeeping that day. Also, I chased him back out to his hole and unless you saw him go through it youd never have know it was there. The good:I thought the price was very for what I received. The beds and pillows were just perfect, I love a firmer sleep but my wife prefers fluffy soft and we were both very comfortable.A tenant had caused a water damage in our reserved wing the night before we arrived (and we arrived very early) but the staff took care of us, got us in a lovely room and we never felt slighted or inconvenienced at all.Overall I liked the Wellington and would stay there again. Dont expect posh, but know that its not a dive. Very comfortable space and great staff!
I’m tempted to deduct a star for the fact that the photos of the rooms on this hotel’s website don’t exactly give you an idea how small these rooms are, but I’ve decided against it because the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff more than made up for that. Bear in mind that the Wellington is over 100 years old, so rooms were obviously designed to a standard that existed around the time Henry Ford’s Model T was the icon of innovation. We stayed on the top floor in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite on the Central Park-facing side of the building, which offered a partially obstructed view of the park that was nevertheless amazing. We were visiting NYC to see our son perform at nearby Carnegie Hall, which is only one block away, so very convenient. Also convenient was the Park Cafe on the ground floor, which the Wellington graciously provided complimentary breakfast tickets for, the travel office in which the staff had very good and detailed knowledge of the city and it’s opportunities, the front desk staff and bellmen/ women....who were all absolutely accommodating, and the subway station the entrances for which are all around the building. Had a very pleasant stay, would do so again.
They canceled my reservation that supposed to be on the 21 of may and i lost about $260 cancellations for my flight because of them. I booked the hotel in march and i been calling them every day and they were like “we are opening in may” yesterday i got an email saying that they are opening in January 2022.
Spartan rooms. Bathroom floor was raised about three inches relative to the room. No fan or vent in bathroom. Decent water pressure. Toilet was difficult to flush and awkwardly placed. Elevator was obscenely slow. Staff were courteous. Room seemed clean. Overall I want thrilled with the room, but it was cheap and functional, and hotel had a great location right between Time Square and Central Park. Valet parking was handy and reasonably priced.
This is actually a 5 Star location for most of New Yorks attractions, we loved it. The reason I give it 4 is the fact there seemed to be a long wait for the lifts. Also although nice the room seemed a little tired with no room hot drink making facilities. Given there are numerous delis nearby this may not be an issue to most. But I would recommend.
I got to the hotel about two hours earlier than the check-in time. Being extremely tired from 14-hour flight, I asked a receptionist if I could check-in early. She kindly let me check-in and even upgraded my room, which was great because I was traveling with my family. The room came with two bed rooms and small kitchen area. Nice :) The location of the hotel couldn’t be better. A metro station is literally right in front of the hotel and many sightseeing spots are within walking distance. However please note that this is an old hotel and still uses an old heating system, which is a steam. The two heaters in my room didn’t work so I called for help and an engineer came up and down to fix the problem. After he changed a whole unit of the heater, the room got warmer. It would have been better if this had been fixed before I checked in. Also, the noise from the heater is quite horrible so if anyone interested in this hotel, please be aware of that. Although this hotel is old, I’ve got a feeling that overall it was well maintained. All the staff members seemed to know how to work.
The location is great, but the hotel is extremely outdated. The carpeting in the room is so old that I couldn’t feel comfortable walking barefoot. The lines on the bed are uncomfortable and small. The bed was squishy and needs to be replaced. There was no room to put your things. There’s a desk and a large night table with 3 drawers under the small tv. There’s a narrow shelf under the mirror to put hairspray and perfume. It’s veey narrow. The bathroom has the same problem. No where to put your things. They charge you $30.00 per person at check in and you must pay it. It’s to use their gym, which I had no time or need for with all the walking we did and to get a manicure, which I had no time get. A waste of $30.00. The towers are so small, they are child size. The worst part is the heating and cooling system. Our room was extremely hot. We turned the heat to the off position but it continued to pour out. One night it was so bad we were all up till 4am and I finally decided to call the front desk about it. A man came and was fondly able to put the a/c on, but this didn’t make up for the 3 nights of list sleep and the sauna like feeling getting dressed after our showers. I wanted to love this hotel, but just couldn’t.
Excellent location, only a few blocks to Central Park, Times Square, Broadway District and surrounded by great restaurants. Room was fairly small and dated but fairly nice nonetheless. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the Park Cafe inside had very good food. Will likely stay here again on our next visit.
Stayed here before and had a better experience. The location is good, and the quality acceptable, especially in relation to the price. However, this time it was understaffed and the noise was such that it was difficult to get any sleep. The sound proofing for our room was non-existent, and we could hear people on both sides of our room all night long and in the hallways and in the street below. Upon check-in we were told to wait in the lobby for our name to be called to be taken to our room. After waiting 20 minutes and seeing a large number of people also waiting I went back to the desk and asked if I could just have my room key as I needed no assistance to my room. I was told they were checking to see if my room was ready, and to keep waiting and my naem would be called shortly. After waiting 10 minutes more, I checked at the desk again to see if my room was going to be ready, and was told probably not for about 2 hours. Had I stayed there as instructed and waited to be called, who knows if I would ever have been called, but certainly I was never told in the first place I may not be getting my room then. The bell staff was friendly but too overwhelmed so no way youre able to get things checked, ice, or assistance without a long wait.
When our AIRBNB reservation fell through because the place was filthy, we were able to get rooms at this hotel at a decent rate. Its an older hotel with historic features. If you like super modern or chain hotels this may not be your kind of place. We loved it! The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. Plenty of toiletries in the bathroom and nice towels. The staff were all so nice. I cut my foot while I was in the city and they went out of their way to provide some medical supplies. There is a wonderful Greek restaurant, Molyvos, a diner and a convenience store attached to the lobby. We would definitely book here again.
Affordable. Stayed for a week. The rooms were worn, and it didnt feel to clean, but I think that was mostly because many surfaces were worn through the veneer. Tiles have been replaced in different colors in the bathroom, and so on.The restaurant was loud and the one breakfast we had some of the worst food we had on the trip, and expensive at that.
Great spot for a hotel but during my stay the room is very hot. They only have a central heating and inside the room there is only a heater, no air conditioning. During midnight me and my friends are sweating. The option is to only open the window which can be opened only 1/4 of it and no wind coming inside to the unit.
We only needed one day for a business meeting. City traffic and commotion. Was to be expected. Valet was polite, efficient and fast. The room was very small and the bathroom was awkwardly arranged. The mirror was angled so the image was inverted and the toilet was too close to the wall. You had to sit sideways. Pretty odd. My only issue was with the front desk. First they said they could not swipe my card, then they said they would take cash but my deposit would be twice as much. After my complaint that my deposit should be the same as it is not my fault they did not clarify this issue, the manager came out and swiped my card. A lot of hassel very late at nig dr after a 4 hour drive. I didnt need the aggravation. They do provide use of the gym and a free manicure. Unfortunately, we were not able to take advantage of the offer. Its an okay place to stay, just be ready.
The hotel was cozy and accommodating, for the price it was so worth it. It was close to a subway stop and you could walk right to time square from the hotel. The rooms were small and didnt have a fridge or coffee pot, but those werent things we were worried about, especially when we got the rooms for so cheap. The staff was wonderful and kind and the doorman was always very polite and welcoming. I cant reccomend this hotel enough and will certainly be staying again on my next trip to NYC.
The only good thing was the bellhop and the size of the room. There was an electrical fire in the manhole outside of the hotel. It shut down the elevators, the outlets, the lights, everything. We were on the 16th floor and my mother in law had to walk down 16 flights of steps with a knee that does not bend. Obviously the hotel could not help what happened. However, we had to pay an outrageous price to have the valet park our car, but they didnt get us our car because of the fire. My sister got her parking fee refunded bc of the incident but they would not refund me. Not only that, but the manager was so unbelievably rude and hung up on me despite me respectfully asking for my money back. I already spent over $1000 to stay in this hotel and they couldnt refund me $75 for a service that they didnt do? Obviously they could not control the manhole fire, but we paid for a valet service that we did not get, outlets that did not work, lights that flickered then went out, and an elevator that did not work. They should have offered something considering the amount of money we spent. We have stayed here for 15 years and WILL NOT ever be back.
Main thing that i didnt like in Wellington is that doors dont have noise cancellation, we could hear everything happening in the hallway. and it was impossible to use elevators at lunch time (waited wore that 5 minutes). otherwise, the room itself was very comfortable and clean. Also, location of the hotel is perfect.
Check in staff member was unbelievably rude, raising her voice to ensure the entire lobby heard what she was saying. My 5 nights stay was paid up front and in full by my business, but I could not be checked in as I could not produce the card the stay was paid on. Having flown all the way to New York I was left at 7pm with no hotel, and she made it very clear that this did not matter to her. I was pretty much left speechless as I have never seen that level of dis-service anywhere in the world. Lastly, the stay was cancelled but the hotel deducted a $300 cancellation fee.
Horrible. Felt so dirty! We booked 7 nights but only stayed 1.The bathroom was super small even for new york. Heater/aircon didnt work. Sounded like a rat was running around inside the unit. It constantly clicked all night.More like a hostel/motel 6.The only good thing about this place is the location.
I will not be coming back here. I paid $250 for 1 night. The room was so small and cramped. The room smelled like cigarettes. Heater had a mind of its own and wouldn’t turn off. I was told there was free breakfast and after I paid, I was told by someone else that it wasn’t included in my stay. No mini fridge, no microwave. Small and old tv. The shower would switch to hot and cold whenever it wanted too. Walls were thin, I literally can hear everything outside and inside. Elevators took forever to get to your room and lobby. Everything was old but I guess I can say the room was clean. I regret coming here, wasn’t worth it.
My friends and I were in a suite during our stay. One room housed our two beds and the other room had a big couch, tv, etc. It was also a great location and is very close to Times Square if thats where you plan to go mostly. Overall, the beds were comfortable and the stay was pleasant.
Nice hotel to stay in. Staff are very friendly. Hotel is undergoing some work on it just now. Something the travel agency failed to inform us of. Only downsides would be the heat in the room was unbearable and we had to open the window all the time even with minus 10 outside it was stifling. And there is no brewing facilitys which means if you want a morning drink you had to get dressed and go out to Starbucks across the road.
Really liked it here. Just a shame WiFi was not free. Could do with an update to the décor but its clean. Friendly bellhops and willing to hold our luggage before our check in. No advice available from staff regarding our winter storm predicament though. Great and amazing location though! The best perk of the hotel.
Older hotel but not bad. I had to ask for a different room because the shower water wasnt draining (had to shower in ankle high water... yuck). Even though its winter, it was unreasonably warm outside and in the room and they turn off the AC. I had someone come check the room and they advised me the AC gets turned off during the winter. It was ugly warm. 😓
The location is great, only a few blocks away from Central Park; however, the rooms leave much to be desired. The heater/AC unit makes random noises even when it isnt on, and when it is on, the AC just turns to hear after a period of time. The walls are very thin, and at night, it is hard to sleep due to noise of the city. As they say, you get what you pay for, and for the price, it is a decent place to sleep. But I wouldnt choose it again unless they at least fixed the AC unit.
At first coming to the hotel I felt as if everything was ok. Nice staff and well kept rooms. Until we found various charges to our room that were not explained before. After trying to get information about those charges the front desk was not working with me and would not tell me anything. I was booked for a two night stay. Later into the first night I got a phone call urging me to come home due to a family illness. I tried to check out early and explain my situation but no one took me seriously and no one would help me. So I had to stay the additional night due to not being able to get a refund for the $700 dollar a night room. Absolutely terrible. I will NEVER stay here again.
The service was great at the Wellington from the moment we arrived. We arrived prior to our check in time, but they offered to hold our bags until the rooms was ready. They provided a quick tour of the hotel, gave us a map of the area, and made some recommendations for us. Overall great stay!
I already stayed here twice and I would come back. Hotel ideally located in Midtown, a few blocks South Central Park and at short walking distance from Times Square, Rockefeller Center, etc. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable rooms with good Wi-Fi. Nice bathing products. I stayed first in February, then in July and both the heating and air conditioning were perfect. I recommend this place.
The rooms are super cramped and dated. That wasnt a deal breaker for me. The deal breaker was that my room had an off putting odor that reminded me of a gym locker room, and my shower would constantly oscillate between freezing cold and boiling hot. This hotel is at a good location, but thats about all it has going for it.
Good location, friendly staff. Those are the good points. Room was very old and outdated--think 1950s travelling salesman. Lights flicker when you turn them on, terrible shower (little hot water), cracked tile, stained walls & carpet. AC only worked sporadically no matter how you set the temperature and when it did was so loud it woke you up. Felt like a fleabag yet was almost $400 per night average.
I loved this hotel, I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Manhattan. The gentleman Doo at the front desk made our stay very memorable, he was always professional, kind, welcoming and knowledgeable.Rooms are super nice, maid service was always good too.I highly recommend staying here!.
Here are just a few of the problems I had:- The rooms are very small and not very comfortable.- The bathrooms are extremely small, to the point where it isnt possible to place all your bathrooms stuff. Theres also no room for you to hang more than a single towel.- The windows are not soundproof, and that is a really bad thing in NYC specially when your room is in facing the street renovations happening at night while trying to sleep.- Walls are also very thin, so you can easily hear people talking in other rooms.- The WiFi is very slow and disconnects constantly.- There are only 2 small elevators for a 25+ floor hotel.- For you to have access to the WiFi, you have to pay an obligatory $20/night fee.On the upside, they accept deliveries for free.
Check-in was extremely unfriendly. Kept me waiting for almost an hour as the office communicated with my office to confirm a corporate credit card transaction. And after all that they told me I still needed to give a personal card because the office card transaction could only be confirmed during the day (this was after 10pm, having arrived shortly after 9pm). And the manager accused me of being rude for asking questions about all this. One star is generous.
If your wanting to see New York City and looking for an inexpensive hotel this is a good choice only about a five to ten minute walk to time square, and about the same amount of time to central park. The hotel itself is what you need nothing more and nothing less. Nice clean room pretty much good for sleeping and showering. You wont find a microwave or refrigerator in your room though so dont plan on bringing food back to keep for later.
The location was convenient for seeing a show in the theater district and the room was comfortable. The interior was very accommodating for a small space. Diana helped me with all my reservation questions and needs. I would certainly consider staying at the Wellington Hotel again.
The stay started off on a great note, with a complimentary upgrade to a suite. BUT very quickly spiralled downhill. We had a couple of friends over as a meeting point before our evening reservations, and without any warning got a knock on the door from security informing us that all guests MUST clear out as theyve received a noise complaint. When I inquired as to why we werent notified of the complaint via phone, we received feedback that the manager who received the complaint didnt want to deal with this. Absolutely unprofessional. Perhaps hotel management needs to work on customer service skills.
February 2020, work being carried out in foyer, will be better when finished. On ninth floor heating noisy enough to wake me several times a night and shower too hot or freezing cold, nothing in between. Could have been to do with the works going on.Otherwise standard size room for NYC at reasonable price, location excellent. Carnegie hall on next block, Central park 2 blocks further on. Times Square a straight walk south.
You will queue to check in. You will queue for the lift, ridiculously small for the size of the hotel. You will enter a comfortable and clean, but not spacious room. You may not have a bathtub in the standard room, only a shower stall in the tiny brown tiled bathroom. You will be glad you booked using a discount code or special offer because this hotel is adequate, but certainly not premium.
Old quirky hotel in a brilliant location. Stayed four nights on a budget deal so price equalled expectation. Rooms cleaned to high standard everyday. Good diner attached to hotel offering plenty of breakfast options to start the day. This is NYC, enjoy the whole experience.
Rank this hotel high due mainly to the location. If you like to run in the park and walk around the city, you cant beat the location! Our room was tiny but worked fine for our quick trip to the city. Luckily on the 3rd floor so we walked instead of waiting for the slow elevators. Id stay here again.
Excellent location. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff. It was everything I needed without the extra dollars. I havent stop talking about my experience at the Wellington Hotel. Next trip to New York the first place Ill look for accommodations will be here. Central Park is about 3 blocks away and Times Square is about 6, a train station is right next to the hotel. Once again, thanks for contributing to an awesome trip.
Extremely unprofessional staff. Expedia nor the hotel website said anything about construction going on in the hotel. Didn’t get any sleep because of construction noise, plumbing shakes and rattles, hotel is extremely out dated.asked front desk to fix problems, waited all Thursday afternoon, Friday at 9 after being at the desk at 8am they finally sent someone. At this point we had already wasted too much time and left. Was told they would compensate us after providing photos of said problems to the hotel and Expedia. It’s been seven days since then still nothing. The manager there is extremely rude. We also could never use the WiFi they advertise. Was finally contacted by the hotel Saturday and was told they would contact me Tuesday, never heard from them. When I called in Wednesday to the contact Henry who I was speaking with, the receptionist asked if he even worked there!? He told me he had been there for 20+ years? Communication and professionalism were not satisfactory at all. I would highly recommend spending your trip some where else. Not to mention the whole lobby and parking area out front are under construction. Unfortunately I can’t upload photos to this review or I would. Do not give them your time or money place is a dump_
Yes as everyone else has already said this hotel is perfectly located, you step out the front door and two blocks to your right is Central Park and down the street to your left you can see Time Square!I wouldnt really be raving about the room, it was very clean mind, but as a typical New York hotel the room was pretty much, the bed and a bathroom .... but really thats all you need!I would say this hotel was over priced considering how dated it is internally, but again I think they can get away with charging what they do because of the location, so I would recommend it for anyone staying for the first time in the city.
Welington hotel is a perfectly decent old Hotel is located in 7th Avenue, 55 th Street In the main center of Midtown Manhattan, New York city. The Hotel is very old but the location is perfect and very close to Subways and 5 minutes walkable distance to Broadway theaters, Times square and Central Park.We stayed here 2 days on 14 th floor with a street view room. The room is neatly arranged with basic amenities. It was -5 outside and there is no Tea or Coffee maker in the room. The room is too small as there is no space to walk around the bed. I dont know why they have collected $ 20 per night as service fee. The bath room also too small in size. The Elevators also small and slow and seems to be very old and looks like entire building is 100 years old. There was a frequent noise from room heating system. Over all centrally located best old hotel.
The hotel is in a great location with short walks to Times Square and Central Park and the staff are pleasant and helpful. The room we were given was very small and basic, but the bed was extremely comfortable and offered a good nights sleep. The decor is in need of a refresh as it is very dated with paint flaking off the walls and exposed pipework in the bathroom. The showerhead was caked in, something, and there was dried toothpaste on the underside of the sink.We also paid for the WiFi for three days at $25 and it was completely unusable in our room unless you stood next to the door. I wouldnt advise buying it unless you are desperate.Other than that it was pleasant enough.
Service has been great so far. Rooms are better than I expected, though the bathroom is fairly cramped but livable. Actually got a separate room thats a kitchenette, one walk in closet in hallway by door and another closet in the bedroom area. Up on 27th floor so have a great view thru multiple windows. More like we are in a small apartment rather than a hotel room.
What a gem among the hustle and bustle of NYC! I reserved a room with 2 double beds, and was thrilled with an actual double room on the 12th floor with 2 bathrooms!! We only stayed one night, the place was spotless, beds were very comfortable, and the staff was friendly and courteous! Thank you Wellington Hotel!
This hotel was booked as part of a package with BA this is our very honest appraisal..Upon arrival the first thing that greeted us was a building site at the entrance We dodged the scaffolding and workers and made our way to reception where we were given our room details etc The lobby has definitely seen better days - but I think those better days finished in or around 1957.We waited patiently for the lift which can take 5 or 6 minutes to arrive and off we went to our room hoping for a little sleep however instead of the lovely large comfy bed we were hoping for we had two slightly small beds with not a lot of room to swing a cat (not that we own a cat or brought a cat). This was Not what we had booked at all. So off down to reception we go to get sorted out, which they did and we were allocated a king size bed in a different and very small room... To give some context if you were to pass a very small child in a very narrow hallway you would have more room to spare than negotiating yourself around the bed. The aircon unit although had many buttons (and some buttons were even brightly coloured) showing different functions, it really only had one setting - And that was just extra hot (think midday in the Sahara) . To accompany this extremely intense heat, we were also treated to a melody akin to a group of gnomes mining for gold every hour on the hour regardless of the time of day or night and whether the unit was on or off. The single glazed windows could be opened to allow some cool air in however when youre trying to sleep and its new York which is the city that never sleeps this is not ideal. Oh and just to boot, I dont think the Wellington valued our privacy nearly as much as we did - the curtains are purely decorative and the blinds can be pulled down but wont stay in that position therefore youre potentially giving half of new York a peep show (not a good thing believe me).The day before we were due to leave we waited the standard 10ish minutes for the lift, off up to the 17th floor we went only to be denied access to our room. We tried everything but the key just wouldnt work.. Waited another 10 minutes to go back down to reception to be told they had mistakenly checked us out the room! I was not impressed and neither was my 50 year old bladder however at least it only took the lift 5 minutes to come back and pick me upThe decor was dated however I would say it was clean. The staff were friendly and happy to help if they could. If youre after the happy shopper /Ryan Air type no frills experience then this is the place for you - hurry and book today ..Weve given it two stars for the following reasons1. The location - walk to Central Park in five minutes and times square in about ten2. It is cheap and clean3. The staff are nice4. So are we :)
Modernising the rooms to some degree would definitely be an improvement, for example, the heater was so loud and too hot in my room but there was no way for me to switch it off. I had to ask at the desk then wait for an engineer to switch it off. They charged $20 per night for resorts fees (which for me I just used the, As they called it, ‘complimentary’ WiFi) but not so much as tea or coffee facilities in the room or at least a bottle of water. I’m not 100% sure what I paid $20 per night for.The bathroom was tiny, I have scratches and bruises all over my leg from constantly hitting the bath.I think the only plus side to this hotel is the incredible location to Times Square. If you walk out the entrance and look left, you can literally see Times Square.
Worst hotel I, personally, have patronized. We were at the hotel for 3 days. Here was no service in the room for cleaning. We requested 2 towels & pillow cases multiple times from the front desk & other employees & did not receive any the whole time we were in the room, even though each time we requested them, we were told it would be done immediately. When leaving, I explained the situation to someone at the front desk. I was told they wouldnt let that happen again. Thats what they said the last time we asked for towels & pillow cases during our stay. So, those were just words. However, they were right: it wont happen to us again...because we will not stay at the hotel again. Stay somewhere else in New York. There are many options. At least you may get towels & sheets. Plus the valets do not really know their job. They do not know what paperwork they need to pick or release a car. It was a nuisance. It would have turned out better if we parked our own car.
Location: You cant really beat it, its what masks a lot of this hotels shortfalls.Staff: Very friendly, along with location its the only 5 star element.Facilities: Rooms are on poor side, walls are paper thin, bathrooms are tiny, you could brush your teeth over basin and use toilet simultaneously no problem. Heating and cooling comes from opening and closing window. The elevators are painfully slow, its like theyre running on hamster wheels. If youre on east wing youre toast. West wing is slightly better. Ive had times where Ive had to wait 5 minutes easily for elevator to arrive.
Unfortunately our stay at the Wellington left much to be desired. While the lobby was beautiful and took us back into time, our 2 rooms were very small, outdated, the radiators made loud clanking sounds all night long, the water pipes shook, the sink drained very slowly and the bed was not that comfortable. I understand that we paid for the location of the hotel, but the owners need to update the rooms. I could’ve stayed at the marriot for about the same price, had complimentary breakfast and been able to regulate the temperature of our room. The front desk staff seems stressed and overwhelmed.
I love wellington hotel the staff was polite and helpful at all time. The bed was very comfortable and clean, the house cleaning change our liners and fix up the room . When I visit nyc, I will go back to wellington hotel. They have Reserve parking And yes I parked my car and it came back in good condition, my kids went to the store right outside the hotel, I love the curtains that match the sheets and the blankets , they have entertainment in the area..I would tell anyone to visit wellington hotel and trust me you will enjoy spending your money..
Hotel quality was really good for the price but what made me give them two star was that I have select the late check out option. When I went into my room the key didnt work because they said even if I chose the option . I had to tell the lady .when I first check in. They didnt stop their . They charge me a late fee which I didnt like but had no time to debate cause of my flight. What got me really furious was they when in to my room and personally remove everything from room. I never seen any hotel do that. I was only 1 hour late to my check out time. All other hotel just locked the room . And wait for you to get their
In the end I came to love this hotel. Firstly me and my BF were put into a really dodgy room, the aircon wouldnt turn off unless you put your hand in a dodgy hole and fiddled out near the wires. The room was dirty and tiny (The door actually nearly hit the bed). By this point I was tired from a long day and flight and the room was not acceptable. We complained at reception and they willingly moved us and upgraded us to an Empire room (or something like that) and the room had a great view, HUGE bed and lovely bathroom. It made the trip to NY instantly better. The hotel was clean and the staff were helpful. The maids are OVERLY helpful, on 2 occasions we had the do not disturb sign on for a well deserved lie in and the maids still came in at about 12pm. So youll get peace up until noon. Our wifi suddenly stopped working as the signal didnt reach our room anymore, staff gave us a full refund. The hotel was nice though although Id advise booking the more expensive room first off.
I really love the location. Its on 7th Avenue 55th street which is super close to all major sights. I booked this hotel merely because its so close to 5th Avenue and to Trump Tower. 😍 Time square and central park is literally just 5 minutes walk. Now the hotel rooms, they were congested and small and the bathrooms were pretty tiny. The cleaning services were up to the top though. They always cleaned the room on time. BEST Breakfast in the city... Thank you for taking care of me. :)
Good rooms but niether microwave oven nor electric kettle provided in the room. Again $20 per day extra charged in the name of service provided by the hotel. Even I had requested that I will not use the facilities provided by you but still they charged saying that this charge is mandatory. this is really pathetic and unprofessional. Overpriced hotel. From my side only 1*.
***Really disappointed!*** Management ought to be ashamed of themselves to allow guests to stay in this place. The commode would overflow when you flushed making a big mess. Also, the bathtub would not drain. Call front office and it took 3 workers about 35 min. to unclog it. That time could have been used for our vacation. The worse nightmare was when some brilliant plumbers decided to install the commode (due to renovations) so close to a wall that you had to literally turn your knees to the side of it to use. When I mentioned that to the maintaince man his response was that the hotel was very old. So Im thinking to myself, so no one has noticed this huge discrepancy? I guess its easy to do if youre not the one using the damn thing. He thought nothing of it.So, more than likely all the newly renovated bathrooms have this same issue. I know for sure room 1110 does.REALLY DISAPPOINTED GUEST!
Poor customer service. On the phone they told me breakfast was included, but was not. When complained a rude supervisor treated me in a nasty way. Plus, they published a 114 dolar fare, but adding taxes and etc was almost 155. Bad experience. The buildin anyhow is nice and clean. they just should choose more carefully the front desk staff.
Lets talk about the Wellington. First and foremost, it is an old hotel:) My suggestion is that you book it directly, through the hotel, for the best rates. The hotel needs updating, as expected, from an older hotel, and they are in the process of doing this. There is ALOT of construction going on, all around the outside of the hotel, as of 3/19. The construction noise seems to go on all night long, especially if your room is right over it. And, you will hear cars honking outside, all night long, depending where your room is (not unusual for NY.)With that being said, the room we got, which is the Standard Queen Room, was clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom has a shower only, though, I believe you can get a standard room, with a tub. As you can see in the pictures, the bathroom is small. Two people cannot shower, at the same time. I estimate the shower area to be 2 1/2 feet by 3 feet, and the toilet and sink area to be about 5 feet by 3 feet. Also, the towels hang right next to the toilet, which I find unsanitary. The solution, close the toilet lid before you flush, or, hang them up higher, on the towel rack, above the toilet, and, still close the lid;) This room did not have a microwave or coffee maker. There is a safe in the closet. There is a hairdryer, ironing board, and iron, in the room. Many are asking about the $20 a night, resort fee. Yes, it exists, and, you cannot waive this. I made use of the manicure voucher, that is included in the resort fee, which I enjoyed. The nail salon, is right next door. Get the voucher at the reception desk, take it next door between the hours stated on the voucher. Go and let them know you are from the hotel. They will ask you to pick a nail polish color and then direct you to a chair, to start your basic manicure. They will proceed with the manicure, then, before they put the polish on, they will ask you to get up, go to the desk, pay and hand in your voucher. When they say pay, they mean, give the desk your CASH tip. I was thrown off, when I had to do this, because I thought, wait, they didnt even polish my nails...lol! I guess its to make sure they get their tip. I gave them $5. The employees were nice. After the polish is on, they lead you to the nail drying station, and, sit there for 10 minutes or until your nails are dry.Back to the room. Ok, the heating was wacky..lol! Its an old hotel ok! Let the desk know if youre having issues with it. When the heat would come on, it will make a loud banging noise. Dont be scared...lol! It will go on in the middle of the night, sometimes. We had the maintenance check it out, and, it was fine after that.I do not recommend the diner next door. That is all Im going to say about that.Overall, it is a great location! 5 minute walk to Central Park, about a 35 minute walk to The Met. 5 minute walk to Times Square. Different Subway/Metro Stations all around the hotel. Carnegie Hall is next door. Lots of places to eat, all around. There is a souvenir shop right next door. The 3 elevators are slow and small. So, you may have to wait for a little bit. Sometimes, they are full. So, if you just want a clean room, to sleep and shower in, and, are exploring for most of the day, this is the hotel for you. Otherwise, I would book somewhere else, that will suit your style:) The lobby can get extremely crowded and busy, so, expect a wait upon check in and check out.
This place has a great location very close to Central Park and Times Square. Its dated inside and really could do with modernising. We had some problems with the shower which the staff were not able to sort; the cold water tap was too HOT to shower under some mornings which also meant we couldnt get drinking water from the tap at the sink. The air conditioner was loud and it isnt immediately obvious how you adjust the temperate or power. If you can afford a bit more I would stay elsewhere.
Outdated everythingRoom 1445Little room, poor circulation and air. Had to change air vent, it was old and dusty. Room got a little better after. 1st day housekeeping left a trashbag on my Mac, grant it she probably forgot because she was really sweet and awesome. Then some random guy walks into our room with a key, while my wife was changing. First manager spoken with tried to justify that...no knock, no announcement, no apology.Changed to Room 2346Room was the same exact size and the bathroom was even smaller and outdated even more. AC unit was smaller also. 2nd Manager tried to make it right by moving us toRoom 1125Bigger and definitely great air (window unit), I assumed everything was good. I leave to get some things for my wife. She sends me a video of the shower curtain not being able to close all the way because of some rod bolted to the roof to reinforce the shower rod. Maintenance comes to put on a new shower curtain. The curtain wouldnt even cover the entire length of the tub, not to mention the only lighting being a lamp over the sink. No fan or circulation in the bathroom in any of the rooms we experienced.Last day Bellman wouldnt let me use a luggage cart by myself, like was very rude when I told him I could handle it. Manger Oliver only took off the facility fee of $60 total when one night was in excess of $200! NEVER AGAIN! NEW YORK DESERVES BETTER!
Its a good location! Close to subway, Central Park and plenty to choose from to eat. The room is a lot smaller than there pictures on the site, but its comfortable. It could use some new curtain and a toilet thats not so low, bathroom is small you will definitely have to take turns going in there.
Love the valet and the band of bellboys ready to handle your luggage at checkin. Valet is provided for $35/day with no in or outs, so be sure to get everything you need out of your car, even if youre on the fence about needing something.I had no troubles checking in and getting up to the room. The bellboy walked us right up to the room and made sure we could get in. The room had JUST enough walking space to get around the bed and the bathroom had JUST enough room for one adult. The pillow smelled of someones unwashed hair. That was very unpleasant. As other reviews mentioned, the walls are thin. The hotel stayed very cold. The heater was on for about three hours at night the first night because the hotels heater was broken. Hardly long enough to warm up the room. They refused to turn it on later because it was 51 degrees and they arent required by law to turn it on until it gets down to 50 degrees. Even when it hit 49 degrees, I had to call down in order to get heat turned on.I was told that since it had just gotten below 50 degrees, the heater would turn on in a few minutes and would cycle 10 minutes on, 50 minutes off, for as long as the outside temperature remained below 50 degrees. As much as I like sleeping in full winter gear, I think Ill stay elsewhere the next time Im in town.
Rooms and bath room us very small. Make sure you get the dimensions in your mind. The heater ac controls are not what you would expect., they are in a service panel with wires and coils sticking out. The Bathroom is very small, there it is a 5x5 room for a toilet tub and sink. Worst of all the shower pressure is very low and every time some one in another room flushes you get scaling hot water. TV remote resets and you have to hit it to get it working again. Location and guest services is the only good thing.
The staff was super friendly and helpful the bed is super comfy . However we had a heater in our room that would make this horrible noise on and off waking us up all night. But that wasnt even the biggest problem ... The showers are the worst here . Its either burning you or absolutely freezing with no real way to fix it. And after 20 min of adjusting it and getting it so i can actually take a shower, the guy in the next room decides to take a shower and im back at square one. This place is cheap to stay at and i know why.
It is just location I suppose. Very very outdated. People are friendly. Rooms are way overpriced. We did get an upgrade cause the other hotel was overbooked. So we got the suite. Of course a very big room with an awful vieuw, broken curtains, parts in the bathroom were broken, Airco made lots of noice. The whole room looked very smudghy.
My son and I traveled to NYC for a concert being held at Carnegie Hall. Not being overly familiar with the city, I looked for a hotel in close proximity. The Wellington is literally 3/4 of a block down the street! The location to the hall, restaurants, pharmacy/convenience store and shopping was excellent. Everything we needed was in a several block radius. We were likely in one of the rooms not yet refurbished, but it had comfortable beds, a fine bathroom w/ amenities and suited our needs. If you book through the hotel you are offered free wifi-we did not, so had to pay (we did get additional devices beyond the two I paid for for free, so that was a bonus). There is a diner off of the lobby and a (pricey) little gift shop, as well. The staff was very nice -hailing a taxi and making recommendations. The Tokyo Orchestra (our reason for going) members were guests, as well, so we enjoyed meeting several of the musicians. There is no question that we will be staying at the Wellington again in the future.
I traveled to this hotel in a group of 4 and upon landing, we were completely overwhelmed by the humidity and the heat. The lobby of the hotel was very well air conditioned and it was quaint. We were 4 hours early for check-in but the staff were extremely welcoming and immediately took to checking up on our room to get us in early. They offered to hold our luggage for free as well, and allowed us to roam, but we decided to just sit in the lobby and wait. About an hour later, we were taken up to our rooms by a bellhop who transported all of our luggage. When we got into the room, we forgot for a moment that tips were also to be given to the man who helped us, and it was an awkward 2 minutes when he stood in the room and quietly stared at us without saying a word. A mistake on our part, yes, we later ran down to him and tipped him.Prior to arriving, I had e-mailed the hotel and asked if it was possible to stay in a higher floor with a good view. I also asked to stay in one of the newer rooms as well, since I had heard that the hotel was also under renovation. The pictures on the hotel looked new to me, but the staff had replied to my e-mail stating that those pictures were outdated, and so I was in hopes of a better room. It wasnt. Our room looked worse than the pictures on the website- the walls were plain, the door had chipped wood all around the chain lock, the air conditioner was dusty and dirty, and the bathroom was extremely small, and there was a pipe on the side of the room with wallpaper oddly wrapped around it. The room was pretty old and outdated. My group and I stepped around the small room to get a feel of it, and after a couple of steps, I noticed that there were crumbs of some sort stuck onto my socks. The floor wasnt necessarily dirty to the point of browning our socks, but it was still unclean. We ended up using the long strip of fabric they normally place on at the foot of hotel beds as a makeshift carpet. The beds though were extremely comfortable, very clean, all the sheets and pillows were as white as ever! Overtime, we grew accustom to the room, and we were never bugged by anything in that room by our 3rd night. (We stayed 9 nights).WARNING: This only occurred on two instances, but there was one night in which we were all settling into our beds, and noticed something long and black crawling from underneath one of our pillows- it was a CENTIPEDE. We freaked out a little bit and threw it outside the room. Another instance included a time in which one of us was showering, and a spider fell from the vent that was situated above the tub, and fell onto my roomate. Were all heavy sleepers, and so the loud air conditioning actually did not bother us. Regardless, though, it is loud.If I could give different ratings for different aspects, Id give the room a 2.5 out of 5, and the staff a 5 out of 5. The room service maid who often cleaned our room during weekdays was extremely perceptive- she would always place the foot sheets we would use to cover the floor back onto our beds for the first 2 nights, but after that, she would always vacuum under it and straighten them out for us again. The workers in the lobby were always willing to answer any of my questions and always willing to give me immediate service and help,
Reasonably priced hotel ideally located between Central Park and Times Square. Choose a one bedroom suite with, by NYC standards, plenty of space and absolutely no view. However, lack of view also meant lots of peace and quiet, which was great at the end of a fun day in Manhattan. Would definitely stay again!

2022-05-27Amazing hotel! The location is very good, the staff is great, the rooms are clean, the service is great! Prices are reasonable, parking is an issue there just as any place in Manhattan.

2022-06-02We stayed here in 2010 with a large choir group as it was near to Carnegie Hall where the students performed. it was a great location with a Starbucks across the street. Years later, I read that the Von Trapp Family Singers stayed at the Wellington when they first came to America, with only $4 in their pockets. History!

2021-10-19I took my teen daughter on her first trip to NYC. She’s been wanting go for some time. Hotel has great nostalgia if you want to go back to the old days of NYC. It’s been around for a long time. Rooms were nicely decorated, Beds were comfy but rooms were understandably small and is the only reason for 4 stars. There is a street cafe attached to the lobby. The food was so good, everything from scratch. We had a tough time wanting to try other restaurants because we always wanted to eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I crave it by just talking about it. Very close to Times Square and Central Park. I would definitely stay here again. We look forward to visiting the greatest city in the world again.

2021-12-08Originally built in 1905, this hotel has lots of history. The lobby is beautiful and decorated gorgeous for the holidays. Rooms are a bit on the drab side, but a neat spot to see. Sounds like will be Closing for good in the future.

2020-12-21I dont mind have fancy hotels we just wanted somewhere to sleep and not too far to walk. the room was small and outdated and thats ok. The whole hotel smelled like weed, we were intimidated by the staff, the pipes made noise all the night and the mattress was horrible. You cant control the temperature. It was a very good location though and a good price, but really should have been lower for what we got. (and theres construction outside) I wouldnt stay here again. just pay a little bit more. Theres no fridge, no microwave, no coffee maker no anything. I can deal with the small room. But smoking weed in the hotel (I expected it being NYC but it was a non-smoking hotel) and the rudeness I cannot.

2020-10-22Everything in the hotel is perfect, thus we have the most relaxing weekend. All about this resort points towards relaxation and tranquility. The hotel, decor, ambiance, staff, location, service, and all areas completely top-class. We will be going back here with my family! I know that they would love it!

2020-12-20The Wellington was a good hotel to stay in. The queen size bedroom was pretty small but it’s a good size for two people. Also don’t expect a fridge or microwave if you’re staying in a queen bedroom. My girlfriend and I asked for a suit because our room didn’t have a fridge or microwave. The suits are nice and spacious and had a really nice view. Overall it was a good experience.
