I was disappointed with my visit to this Steakhouse. I will say the staff was extremely friendly, the drinks were off the wall, the appetizers were good, the French Onion soup was on point, but the steaks were not Steakhouse quality and could be compared to that you would get at a chain establishment like Applebees. My kids got the kids filet mignon meals which were a good portion but a little boring, I got the Bone-in Kansas City which lacked flavor, and my wife got the NY Strip that needed to be sent back because it came out rotten. They immediately made her a new one which was great, but this is a Steakhouse in which no steak should ever come out rotten or spoiled. It sucks because I really wanted to like this place, but for the price I paid for this dinner, at the least I would expect the food to be fresh and steaks to be a step above any commercialized establishment.
Out of 5 stars: Service, 3.5. Pleasant and not over the top. Prime rib, 1.5. Too much fat and gristle; not served on a hot plate - cold halfway through. Side of spaghetti in garlic and oil, 2.0 - pretty basic and also served in a cold dish. Seafood fra diavolo, 3.5 - good dish. Heavy on the mussels, no clams and served on a cold plate.
Overall this is a pretty good restaurant. Waiters were very attentive and polite. There was a bit of a hick up with my order. My family all order combos alaskan crab legs with lobster while I myself ordered just the alaskan crab. Their proportion of crab legs was decently sized but when my order came it was the exact same size as the combos with a meager amount of meat. I mentioned this to the waitress who got the manager and was given some extra without further issue. Everything was delicious.
Our first night of vacation in NY/NJ area and we stayed on Staten Island. At the recommendation of the hotel, we decided to dine at the West Shore Inn Steakhouse, supposedly the best restaurant in Staten Island. In hindsight, we wondered, voted best by who? The owners? While service was OK, everything else was not. Why I never complained about the food immediately, I cant explain. For dinner, my wife had the filet and king crab leg combo and I had the Kansas City strip steak with shrimp in rosemary cream sauce. My wife couldnt eat her filet, not due to size but instead poor taste. Her crab legs were halved and OK.My steak needed to be trimmed better before preparing. I cut off a thick layer of grilled fat around most of the edge. It was well seasoned and cooked to the level I wanted yet, the low quality of the steak was evident. Three shrimp accompanied my steak, all overcooked and tough. The shrimp broke at the tail shell rather than slip out as one would expect. The rosemary cream sauce...tasted old. Now, if this meal came from somewhere like the old Ponderosa or Western Sizzlin Steakhouse, it might have been understandable. But this meal, with three cocktails and tip was over $195. I dont mind paying for a good meal but I dispise paying good money for bad food. Best advice, avoid this restaurant and find something else, anything else.
Ok so the good bad and ugly. So party of 2, sat in the back. It was cozy, fireplace was lit, they lowered the heat thank God, was pretty warm just with the fireplace. The server we had was quadruple sat. The couple in fromt of us, our patry of two and two other couples, one with the cutest little boy ever, who were seated after us. From the jump, she was visibly weeded. She was nice but service was definitely lacking. No management or fellow servers picked up on this and left her to drown. Not a great look in an establishment this size with this cost. Loud birthday party of intoxicated folks was not the classiest touch either, granted not the restaurants fault but did overall effect the experience and ambiance. Now lets talk about the food. The snails were ok, for a basic frozen snail you can get at most grocery stores. French onion soup was ok lacked Sherry and deep flavor to me it was on the level of a local bar and grill. We got bread before drinks. I had to walk to the bar and order water because I was super thirsty from waiting almost 20 minutes. We didnt order anything alcoholic. Now to the entrées. She had the stuffed lobster. Frozen Brazilian lobster tails. They were just bad. It was mushy and not flavorful nor was the crab stuffing. The scallops...were broiled seemingly under a salamander sitting in a pool of flavorless liquid. Two were drowning in old bay, one had literally no old bay. They were cooked well luckily. I had filet and king crab. Filet was a good quality piece of meat and was cooked perfectly. It had zero seasoning. No salt no pepper, nada. I like steak I like its flavor, no salt or pepper is a cardinal sin in the food world. The king crab was odd. They cut the legs and then grilled them. They had an almost propane flavor to them. Its king crab guys, STEAM it. Dont cut it open before its cooked. I was honestly shocked at the high reviews. My only assumption is that with the limited exposure to fine dining on staten island most of the patrons are not as developed palette wise. I would highly recommend taking the trip over the bridge and going into the city for steak dinner. I genuinely think this place has only made it, is because its on staten Island. Anywhere else theyd go under. dont
Go there today because of the 4 star review and turns out dispointed.. its a slow monday. the hostess is sitting there watch us walk in. not saying hi not even get up. i have to ask her if she works here. the server is pretty nice. I ordered 1 app and 2 entree for 2 of us. i give this $20 app 0 star. very oily and over fried. the entress is good size but prime rib is teastless. the worest part of this place is the wait time. 20 mins for app almost an hour for entree. excuse me? please hire more chef if you need to. No 1 steak house in staten island ?! i dont believe that. there are much more better places to go. spend $ 110 for dinner for 2 people. not worth it!
Better to call for reservations however I have arrived without a reservation for 4, waiting up to 45 minutes on a Saturday evening not to bad.I’ve tried The porterhouse steak nice looking steak cooked to order it had a nice flame 🔥 cooked flavor to it.Recently I had the crab cake burger which is a beef burger and they add a crab cake to it,it was good and plenty.Unfortunately I order calamari as an appetizer small pieces like eating from the bottom of the bowl.Staff is friendly & helpful & they don’t forget about you
2017.05 1st time was mother day..filet Mignon over cooked...I order medium rare....came out medium well...probably too busy for them...... but still good......my point is that if too busy affect their quality...that would be a thumb down; 2nd time few weeks later, same overcook....medium rare came out medium well.....i dont think i will got 3rd times
This place was really very good. Large portions of fresh delicious food and cold beer sum it up. I ordered the sole stuffed with crabmeat and scampi sauce. It was fantastic except for the minor fact that the crabmeat stuffing wasnt completely hot .Also a little frustrating was my cold salad that was served in a very hot ceramic bowl.I would absolutely go back and have a steak!
I’ve never written a review, but I just had to for this restaurant. I went here A couple of hours ago, and the food was immaculate. I had the best service from a lovely waitress there. She was great and honestly just one of the best dining experiences of my life! Thank you, West shore Inn. I will be here again.
Absolutely delish!!!! Im not a huge steak eater but decided on the volcanic steak tips. It was so good, I cant wait to go back again. Portions were huge. Really cant say enough about the food. Everyone at our table loved their meals as well. Service was outstanding. We will DEFINITELY be back.
Ambiance and the feel of the place has been maintained over the years really nicely. I like the feel. The staff helpful nice & attentive. Portions are a little big so dont go on half full. Steak is there forte so vegans go elsewhere. Parking not so good. A good choice seems a little bit pricey . 4 star try it
My favorite place to sit down and have a beer and enjoy a steak. I had the t bone and my wife had the Salmon special. The steak was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My wifes salmon was excellent and she could not finish it as the portion was a little big for her. The only negative was the server. She asked me if i wanted steak sauce for my steak but I never got it.After my food was served she never came over to ask how it was. Therefore I never got a coke to drink with my meal and had to drink water. You did not want to eat steak and drink water. Luckily my wife is not a big soda drinker and I got a few sips of hers. Overall the food is excellent but was not happy with the service of our waitress.
Dry aged steak was phenomenal, I don’t know another restaurant on the island that has dry aged meat like that so it’s worth the trip; even if only to try their porterhouse. They also know how to cook a steak, rare was properly rare, you can ask for a little more “char”, and they even do black-and-blue. They can also do all of the other levels of done, so if you prefer medium expect a perfectly medium steak. This establishment is definitely on the list of finest eateries on Staten Island.
The first time my boyfriend and I went here, it was rocking! We got two porterhouse (Monday special), and OMG melt in the mouth delicious! We went a second time, and again, the steak was great! However, back in March, we went for a third time, expecting a spot on experience and found the quality had dropped significantly. Perhaps it’s because we ordered ribeyes instead, but we were a bit bummed. I think we’re going to try a north shore steakhouse just for the sake of comparison...
The West Shore Inn is one of my favorite places to go on the Island, it has a Cheers feel to it. The food is outstanding be sure to visit on a Thursday night for the Prime Rib special. The service is astonishing attention is paid on every detail. If you want a more quiet atmosphere you can Visit their other restaurant Fig & Vine they have all the same qualities!!
I love the food here. Went last night got Prime rib special. They definitely need some new knives. Served on a plate almost its size as a tried to cut the juice splashed all over. Plated potato and string beans on bread plate. As I ate potatoes the string beans fell off. Ive had better string beans. Please use bigger plates and sharper knives. Ive been going there along time and always enjoyed the food. Btw Service gets an Excellent.
First time dining at West Shore Inn. Ordered a Prime Rib dinner takeout. The meat was cooked exactly how I asked for it, a perfect medium rare. I ordered the smaller size (12 oz) and I could easily get 2-3 meals out of it. The Prime Rib was excellent! The meal included potato, vegetable, and salad ( all delicious). Glad I decided to try this place. I will definitely dine here again.
Food was delicious, we had steak, seafood, salad, Hot Antipasto and everything was just amazing. The portions were a great size. The Seafood Fra Diavolo was a huge portion, I wasnt expecting it to come in such a big dish. The service was wonderful, the place was super clean. Wonderful experience, highly recommend.
My wife came into town from Northeast PA Saturday for a show at the St. George Theatre and made a reservation the day prior for 5PM. Place was easy to find. There is a parking lot around back but it was full. We drove around the block about 3 times and finally found street parking a little way up the street. I feel like this unavoidable in a town like Staten Island so it a knock on the place. We were seated immediately and very quickly serviced by our waitress. We got the thick bacon cuts as an app and my wife got lobster tail. I went the porterhouse as a steak lover. Everything was wonderful! Service was ultra attentive!!!! Steak was done to a perfect medium rare like I ordered. A+ in my book.
My daughter took me there as an early mothers day dinner...everything was good ordered 2 hot Antipasto it was delicious except my prime rib was fatty had to cut so much of it off just to chew it... so in other words I have had better ....I would try it again but ill order something else
Food was delicious but hostess and a few staff members fell short of the high customer service I expected from a place like this. Had to ask for heaters several time and froze while waiting and asked for silverware 4 times before we could even butter our bread after waiting 30 min on a reservation we were on time for! Once we had appetizers and dealt with waiter, everything was MUCH better and on point.
Highly advise making reservations unless you dont mind waiting over an hour on a Saturday night. Other than the wait, the food is outstanding. Oversized appetizers and the 24oz porterhouse was great. Its hard to get a steak made black n blue almost everywhere... except here! Prices are really good too and the service was unrushed and attentive. Ive been told it was great for years but never got around to trying it, and now we cant wait to go back!
This was my first of what I hope to be many visits to the West Shore Inn Steakhouse. This quaint spot on Staten Island is well worth a visit. The specialty drinks are excellent and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable. The steaks are great, but not NYC priced. The only reason I didnt give a 5 star rating is because there was no parking lot...ample street parking was available. I enjoyed my visit, Im sure you will too. After I posted this review I was informed by West Shore Inn Steakhouse owner that there is a parking lot available...thus changed rating to 5 stars. Thank you West Shore Inn for reaching out to me!
Great food, great drink, great peopleUpdate:4 years or more later and still myabsolute favorite place to eat.The booths are the best place to sit.Biggest lobster tail I ever had with a surf and turf every time.Small birthday dinner for my wife was excellent. Hostess was in on the surprise and waitresses helped bring over a dessert cake slice with a candle and helped sing.Never ever had a bad second in this fine establishment.Love love love W.S.I. you will also
I DONT THINK THIS NEW REVIEW WAS EVEN LOOKED AT BY THE OWNER. I wrote this review because I was so disappointed with my last visit to West Shore. Hopefully the OWNER will read it now. Unfortunately our last visit to West Shore on Friday, March 19th did not live up to our usual high expectations! Weve been coming for many years, lunch, dinner, even special family events with all 12 of us. Our lunch last Friday, was disappointing in many ways. Firstly the two servers were anything but welcoming and friendly! Which is not what weve come to expect at West Shore. Secondly ordered dinners, salad was much smaller than usual and served on a small bread and butter plate, husband ordered honey mustard dressing, got ranch, didnt complain. Main course came out vegetables were ice cold, had to ask server to please warm them up, when they were heated, they were bland not like their usual sauteed in garlic and oil veggies. My stuffed filet was delicious, though only one filet even though the menu clearly stated 2 - 8 ounce filets. My husband got JUMBO shrimp (7) definitely NOT jumbo, one tasted totally like iodine and he left it on the plate. Server never asked how everything was nor if we needed drink refills. When the bill arrived, noticed my husbands shrimp was $2.00 more than menu price, server claimed because it was Oreganata, when the menu clearly listed Scampi, fried or Oreganata at the SAME PRICE. Asked about the reason I got one filet instead of 2. Explanation was it was larger so it was a full 16 ounces. No way that was accurate. Anyway, I was not going to write this negative review but I emailed the restaurant twice to which I got no replies, so I decided to post a review. I always post positive reviews, in this case I could not. I will give West Shore another chance because Ive been enjoying their food for years. Hoping they just had a Bad Day!
I went to the West Shore Inn for dinner last night with a group of co-workers. We made a reservation (Highly Recommended). We were met by the hostess, who was very pleasant and brought us to our seats. The restaurant has a nostalgic decor but not old looking it was well lit and very clean. Our server was over in no time and also very pleasant. She informed us of the specials in this case it was the Prime Rib that came with salad and dessert. Four of us decided to try it and it was excellent. Overall everyone thought the food and service was excellent. In short: excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, very nice decor and reasonable prices.
Rumor has it they are under new ownership. Ordered Prime Rib Special, (Thurs) came out burnt. Had to request another steak only to have it chewy like rubber. When asking for spinach was told that the vegetables were a medley, I would have paid more for spinach. Hospital food like veggies, overcooked broccoli, string beans and ONE baby carrot. One. Mashed potato was supposed to be garlic, no garlic taste at all. Seems defrosted. We also got a Pork Chop which was fine, but very hard to mess up I suppose with the peppers and sauce hiding the meat. Salads were brown and wilted. Things are going downhill, will not be back. Sometimes change is not good. Bar stools were extremely dusty. Staff rude and in their own world. Complaining about customer phone calls. I thought a business liked customers, go figure.
Feel really bad because we have been going and ordering out from Westshore for 2 generations of families. But for some reason that day was poor the prime rib was greasy grizzly cold flooded with asura gravy, you couldnt even cut the steak on the plate is splashed all over the place the knives they gave us was so dull I could have used my Fork better cut the steak with. you should have a nice sharp knife to use to cut the steak. The green beans were burned I never had the green bean burn from there before. They usually are really delicious sauteed green beans the only thing was okay was the garlic mashed potatoes warm but nothing came out hot that was very disappointing evening. we just we dont complain about things like that while we eating we just move on and we probably will not use West Shore Steakhouse again disappointed very disappointed
The West Shore Inn created a wonderful shaded, fenced-in seating area with corner fans circulating the open air. The food is top notch as always and servers are professional and attentive. We had the BOGO50% Steak Special. Two medium rare shells steaks with potatoes on the side. Cant wait for Prime Rib night!
I recognized the owner by the newspaper clipping by the entrance. Very nice professional down to earth gentleman. We were seated and the service was excellent , The wait staff outstanding. Both me and my Fiacee enjoyed our meals. We even followed it up with dessert and coffee. Prices reasonable food outstanding all around great place. Thank you Mike for a great evening of dining.
Excellent. First time there I had a chicken dish. It was prepared to perfection. Cant wait to go back for a streak. I absolutely recommend this restaurant. Considering the food quality, the prices were reasonable. The service was fine. It was a little too dark.. but I suppose some people like that.
Restaurant came highly recommended, I’m sure it’s excellent consistently however I ate a cold meal and a tough filet with a dull serrated knife and found it challenging as the service wasn’t prompt. I assume servers are used to serving great dishes to happy customers. I was there late before close and still left 30%. I appreciate your reply and have updated the rating based on your inquiry. Please find my honest feedback above. God Bless. -Carmine Casale
It was about 4-5yrs since eating here..Service was not as good ..had to ask for the dinner rolls and then knife to use butter.Steak had no real taste ..not broiled ..little tough to cut..we were seated in a booth..not ever a problem, but there was rowdy group having laughs at the bar right across from us..difficult to have a private conversation.Prices acceptable..
Valentines 2021, restaurants opened up at 25% capacity!! Yaay!! What a way to celebrate! So naturally we want to support local business! We were impressed from the heart warm greeting at the door, followed by our waitressed amicable offer to taking our drinks and appetizer order. To the impecable dinner orders, ending with dessert it was all so exquisite!AppetizerSea food teaser : the alaskan king crab leg were on point! Easy access to the pulp, the crab meat was soft and loose, shrimp was large and easily cooked, clams were raw and the red sauce compliments all perfectly.Surf/turf:it was bout 8oz lobster tail w/ butter & about 8 oz of mignon medium well was so tender, side order of loaded potatoesPrime ribWas a little harder than the turf describe above but still very flavorful!! Definitely recommend, will be returning!!
My son went last night to take advantage of the Prime Rib Special! Prime Rib was done to perfection! The portion size and quality of the food was excellent. The only downside was he wanted to bring home the Special to me but he had to pay full price for my dinner because you dont offer your Specials a take home option. I found this very disappointing as I am homebound and unable to go to the restaurant . It would be wonderful if you reevaluated this policy! Your listings dont mention that Specials are eat-in only.
As visitors to Staten Island, the West Shore Inn was recommended. We were advised to make a reservation (a definite). The place is very busy but we were seated fairly quickly. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The food was great, well cooked and the portions were large. Prices were very good. We will definitely be going back
This was our only nice dinner out during our trip to New York. It was very welcoming and the staff was great. The bartender kept us entertained as well as informed us of things we needed to see and do while we were visiting. I ordered the ravioli and he had the cheesesteak. Both were excellent and by far the best meals we had in New York.
Disgusting food, terrible service and they rip you off on the bill! Look at your bill because they charge you higher prices than what’s on the menu! The manager acts like he has no idea about the real prices and then makes you feel bad after you tell him that he has overcharged you! He’s been ripping people off forever! Stay away from this atrocity! Also many people are smoking cigarettes right in front of the entrance to the restaurant and they do nothing at all to stop it! An extremely horrific experience! Shame on the West Shore Inn Steakhouse you should not be in business!
I was so disappointed. It was highly recommended to me by a good friend and I only saw the first couple of reviews and they were good, so I figured I had found a piece of heaven in Staten Island. But that was not the case.I will start with the positives. The ambiance was very nice. I loved that old school vibe that makes you feel you transported yourself to another time. Our server Mike was very friendly, attentive, prompt and understands what good customer service is and the place was clean! Here comes the negatives! The food was not reflective of the prices and the quality it portrays. The side salad looked and tasted like it had been sitting for a while. The lobster tail was over cooked and it tasted like nothing (no flavor at all). The steak was meh at best. The bolognese tasted like it came right out of a can and the pasta was very under cooked. The Guinness Draught tasted flat and watered down almost. The thick bacon cut appetizer was good though.I see the owner does a good job at reading and replying to the reviews which is great. If you dont mind, I would recommend a serious conversations with your cooks and quality assurance manager. Those dishes should have never left the kitchen. And in case you are wondering, I am not a picky eater, always take home leftovers (which I did not this time) and very easy going; for me to type this review says a lot.
Definitely a place to come and eat.I recently moved in to the area and i have been passing by this restaurant a lot so looked up the reviews and they were great. So i decided to come and try it, while looking at the reviews a lot of them were mentioning about a waiter John interestingly enough as i sat down at my table a wonderful gentleman named John came over as our waiter and as the great reviews described about him he was amazing with his service and smile very knowledgeable with questions we had on the menu.Food was great everything we had was done to perfection. Thanks for a great night
This place definitely has potential. The service is outstanding and the inside decor gives you a traditional vibe. However the menu is priced way too high for the quality of the food. For example the Surf n Turf and the Steak Stinger both plates have filet mignon and that was cooked to perfection, but the lobster tail and king crab legs were dried out and was not succulent. Also please don’t serve “frozen vegetables” for the sides- seriously? Paying 56/57 dollars to have steak, dried out seafood and frozen broccoli is a huge disappointment. Restaurant management should really understand if they want business they should serve their customers with quality food. My husband and I ate the food, but we probably won’t be visiting this place again.
This was my first time there, and I had a fantastic experience. Our server, Bella, was very friendly and attentive. The food was terrific. I feel we got more than our moneys worth. The owner even stopped by our table to check on us. I will be going back again very soon.
This is my favorite place for a good steak on Staten Island. My wife and I have been about six or seven times since moving back to SI and we are never disappointed by the meal. We went there on New Years as well and had a great time. Steaks are always delicious, the apps are wonderful (love the hot scungilli), French onion soup is good. Service has always been spot on. Small parking lot in the back and street parking on the side and in front. Monday’s are a great night to go, buy one get one half off on steaks!
Brought the family for a birthday dinner on a Monday night. Glad to see the steak specials are still offered then. We all had the 24 oz porterhouse. Nice piece of meat. Cooked exactly as requested. A fine meal, including the French Onion Soup and creamed spinach. Criticisms: the onion rings were greasy - which tells me the fryer is set too low. An easy fix. Come on! The meat is straight-up broiled, so needs salt of course. It would be nice to be offered a finishing, perhaps a skillet searing in butter, or even a dusting of sea salt to form a crust. Not a criticism, but a suggestion to make a good meal even better.
Ive been disappointed every time I order salmon from other restaurants. Since I havent had salmon in awhile, I figured Id give it a shot. Delicious!!!! The salmon Dijon was amazing. I enjoyed every mouthful along with baked potato and tasty stringbeans. I will be back!!
UPDATE: In reference to the comment below I have to say Michael Strickland, owner, reached out to me to remedy the situation. He kindly offered to rectify the problem and did so with a superior attitude that has restored my faith. This is what community is about, people and businesses who care, and Mr. Strickland has done so with his consideration. Thank you..Below is a review I did about a year ago. Today I ordered four muscle appetizers and there was just around 20 muscles in each order, give or take one or two. That would make it around $1 a muscle. This is at least half of what I usually get when ordering. I called to talk with the manager or owner and the person who answered the phone said neither was there. Very disappointed and embarrassed, since I bragged about the place and company was over to eat.****(OMG! The best of the best. I live right in the neighborhood and I have to say the sauce is to kill for. I so bad want to ask for the recipe. All the food is fantastic, I am especially fond of the muscle appetizer. You cannot go wrong eating at this place.)
I havent been to this restaurant in over 20+ years and am thinking about going there for my anniversary in September. I went several times back in the 1980s with my then boyfriend. After reading all the reviews, Im on the fence about it. A lot of the reviews were very positive, but there were so many extremely negative reviews, Im nervous about ruining our anniversary dinner. Its either very inconsistent or there are some really obnoxious people that get twisted easily. Can someone please post a truly honest review? Thanks.
My in-laws took me here for my birthday dinner during the summer, the king crab legs were out of this world!!!!!!!!! Muscles in white wine sauce were great too! For my entree I had a prime rib which was perfectly cooked but completely bland, nothing some salt and pepper and a side of raw horse raddish couldnt fix, so then it was pretty good. All in all, this place is great and service was also great! I deff will be back for some more AMAZING seafood!
My experience here at the West Shore Inn was terrible. I waited almost an hour and a half to be seated. Our waitress who I seen maybe 4 times wasnt friendly at all. I ordered the filet mignon which was very good until I realized my steak was burnt (literally). I told the waitress she said thats how a medium well is cooked. Now every restaurant I go to, I always order a steak and never had an issue like this. She said if they make another one its going to come out the same. So I ended up cutting all sides off so I can eat the inside. Definitely not worth 40 Bucks. Our waitress didnt even say bye to us. It took us 3 hours to leave. It was just horrible. I definitely wont be coming back.
Absolutely my favorite place for a steak and then some. Their Marsala sauce is exceptionally delicious! Every time I go there, I am never disappointed. Their menu has so many options, whether you eat there for lunch or dinner. And their Special’s are outstanding!!! You will not find a better place to dine on Staten Island, the service and atmosphere are excellent too. This place totally blows “ Peter Lugers” away !!!!
First time here amazing fresh food!! They are worth a 10 star the food was really delicious the service was great and they actually come to your table and ask hows the food after your waitress serves you which is good! From owning my own businesses they do know how to give great customer service I highly recommend west shore inn
Does not get any better than this. Went with my gf for dinner here, few people referred me to go to this place and they were all absolutely right. Wait to be seated wasn’t long especially for Saturday night, but we sat at the bar drinking while we waited. The staff is great from beginning to the end. Food is amazing and the portions are huge. Prices are very good. I will be coming back here over and over.
On Tuesday I called the West Shore Inn. Ive eaten there many times and even hosted a few small functions there before, but now I had a dilemma that I was unsure they could handle. On the following Sunday, I needed a room to host a luncheon for 55 people. Jessica answered the phone, and in a calm collected voice said, No problem. Well, I had looked at their function menu online so I was ready to answer all the menu request questions. She informed me that if I wished to go above and beyond, Mother Mousse Bakery could also provide a sheet cake and they could pick it up for me. (I did and they did). Its Sunday, people coming for a 1-5pm function. I, along with 2 family members, arrived at 11:50am. A restaurant associate opened the door for us. Flower pieces and balloons, that we supplied, were set up. Table seating arrangements and place cards were put out, guests arrived and at 1pm the guest of honor walked through the door. Now it was left to the restaurant staff.Ive noticed over the years that some restaurants hire staff and expect them to fill a slot. A better class of restaurant trains their staff to work together. West Shore Inn had well trained, attentive, courteous associates. With time to answer a question or just within eyesight, they were spot on, ALL OF THEM! The kitchen staff, although I did not see them, kept the food coming so all of us could enjoy the same course together. Not as easy as one might imagine. Although we had a menu of fish, chicken or beef, it was not a problem to create a few children friendly meals, a ravioli platter and a vegan plate. Im still getting phone calls with the food and venue being applauded.Mike, you should be very proud of your entire staff, they treat the customer, Im sure, like you would. Kudos. Ill see you many more times, you make a good time out great.
Not what I remember. Had a terrible piece of prime rib that I ordered rare that came well done . I told the waitreses who sent over the owner. When I showed him the piece of meat and how it was cooked his response was sometimes thats the way it comes. If that is the way it comes why ask me how I want it. I will not be eating here again.
I brought my girlfriend here for a nice steak dinner. I have heard from many friends and family how good this place was but wasnt expecting to have the best steak I have ever had! Do yourself a favor and get the Porterhouse, cream spinach. My girlfriend had the crab legs. Great portion and when she is happy....Im happy! Im not a review type person, but people need to know where to bring someone for an amazing dinner.hadhad!
I drove all the way from the other side of Staten Island to meet a friend for dinner. Something came up and my friend couldnt make it so I decided to go in and get something to eat. The hostess wouldnt let me in because I was only one so she sent me out. Out right refused me. I have frequented this place many times but Ill never go back again.
DEFINITELY WORTH THE TRIP!!!! WOW! The food is SOOO good you dont want to brush your teeth! I havent had one thing that was so so or bad. The actual restaurant is not huge, HOWEVER; I think its a good thing. The decor is nice, very well done, extremely welcoming and whatever you need, youll have immediately! (if its not anything off the wall). Overall, GREAT restaurant, GREAT food and service, and VERY family oriented but also great place for a date, or just to go to dinner. This restaurant should be on everyones bucket list!!!
Some one else already said it best, steakhouse prices, not steakhouse quality.Baked clams were chewey and the breading was dry.Unsweetened iced tea tasted like it had diet Coke in it (why?)Potatoes where flavorless and had giant clumps in themSteak was ok by outback standards I guess.
Excellent, Ill be back!! Just left the steakhouse and everything was perfect. I went here about 3 years ago and wasnt impressed, but the w owner was working the restaurant along with the staff and everything was very good. The filet Mignon was cooked prefect, although it was charred on the top a little more than i like it was medium and tasted amazing. We also got the volcano steak tips, which are filet Mignon with fried onions and mashed potatoes, and again it was perfect. I would honestly call this one of the best steaks in NYC!! However the service could use some work- it want bad but it definitely want good.
Has everything going for it other than way over priced drinks and over aged steaks. My steak actually tasted like someone grilled shrimp on the grates then plopped my steak on. Odd having a shrimp tasting steak. $120 for one steak a mess of mashed potatos and some over cooked steak and 2 drinks. Ouch
The Place was not busy. It took a long time for someone to take our drink order and appetizer order. Then they switched servers. Then they brought out the soup and salad for our main meal because they over cooked our appetizers. Probably the last time I go back there.
Awesome Place my cousin Sal and I went here for dinner and it was Great... The Jumbo Shrimp... Baked Clams... Steaks... Desserts were in our book A+.. Honestly cant wait to go back.. it was so great we were the last ones to leave the restaurant that night... Best Place on Staten Island for Steaks...
This place is used to be good when the lady who originally ran this place would be around. Now they just get college students to run the place who dont pay much attention and forget about your orders or just mess it up. The food is meh and the service is down. Dont recommend going here. Go to native burger instead - better burgers, better service. Very disappointing...
I wanted to add a full review of this establishment after our visit there as part of the Navys Fleet Week. The folks at West Shore opened their arms to us, a large party of Navy civilians and sailors, late on a Sunday night for karaoke, drinks, and snacks. They were warm, welcoming, the place had a great atmosphere, and the food/drinks were top notch. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend anyone visiting Staten Island to stop in here, Ill definitely be back next time Im in New York! Thanks for letting a couple of goofy sailors of questionable singing talent grab the mic and share some laughs with your staff and other patrons, we had a blast!
Dare I say better than Peter Luger and Ruth Chris?! I will shout it! #1 for a reason. Met the owner who is passionate about his food. The filet mignon and Maui Maui was outrageously down well with horseradish cream and guacamole. A great way to celebrate 55 🎂Gonna come back as much as we can for date night-get a booth for charm.
My boyfriend and I have eaten at the west shore inn on a week day and had a great meal and great service. Last night (on a Friday) was anything but. I expected it to be crowded, but it shouldnt sacrifice service. Our waitress (tall with dirty blonde hair and bangs in a ponytail) put our order in and when they brought our food, our porterhouses were really over cooked and tough and our sweet potato side was burned to where there was no soft potato left, only black burnt char. I usually dont complain about food and decided to eat it. And was going to at least notify the waitress that it was overcooked. BUT she NEVER checked in on us. She had her blinders on and never even looked at our table through eating 24 ounces of steak. Finally, at the end, she asked if we needed more drinks, and I declined but started to tell her that our potatoes were burnt and she abruptly interrupted me mid-sentence to grumble that they didnt have anymore sweet potatoes. She was rude and rushed. I didnt even have a chance to tell her about our steaks being overcooked. After that she never returned to our table and had another person drop the check. Last time we went to west shore inn the steak was phenomenal and the waitress checked in and was amazing and helpful. This lady was horrid. We will never be returning.
Exquisite....best steak I probably ever had great food all around salad was fresh. Got the NY strip steak it was all around amazing and with the side dishes definitely worth the price great service I will definitely go back again and I will recommend this place as I already have to family and friends
Service was slow. Prime rib was nothing to brag about. Split pea soup sucked. Pasta was dauced in cup full of oil. Rib eye was only decent thing not mention you only get 8 baked clams. Overall place was lousey wont catch me here again if you wanna throw away your money go there it even looks quite run down in the inside Docs or texas roadhouse are 10 times better
So disappointed tonight , not the usual service or experience I have had at West Shore Inn. Staff not very friendly tonight and seemed bothered. Mom ordered eggplant parmagiana and received eggplant rollatini, unfortunately not what she wanted, but waitress should of told her you guys dont make it. Got very annoyed when mom said she did not want it. I asked if they could just removed the ricotta and bring it out. She was very annoyed despite the fact that I apologized for my mom. Needless to say not a good experience.
Went to the West Shore Inn after reading good reviews about the food. Made reservations over the phone, and got dressed up for a fancy dinner. On entering the bar/restaurant, we found the hostess after a short search. She told us that she was waiting for one party to leave before she could seat us. So we sat down at the bar. Jessica, the bartender, served us with a smile, and dropped menus in front of us. So we decided to eat at the bar rather than wait for the table.I ordered the crab meat martini appetizer, a dish I have enjoyed at many different restaurants. And I ordered a porterhouse for my entrée, with a sweet potato side. When the appetizers came, it took only one bite of the crab meat to know it was bad. The texture was almost creamy, instead of the stiffness indicative of fresh crab meat. And it tasted bad, like bad seafood does. I called Jessica over and told her I couldnt eat it. She asked why. And I told her it was bad. Just bad. That was the end of nice Jessica. Youd think I had insulted her hair color, or choice of clothes. I apologized, explaining that I did not mean to offend. I simply couldnt eat crab meat that tasted bad. (Personally, I prefer that which tastes good. And thats kind of what I had hoped to get when I ordered it.)As Jessica headed toward the kitchen with the crab martini, I mentioned to another couple, with whom I had been talking, that I probably should have just stayed with the steak, as it is a rule of mine to not order fish at a steak joint, and to not order steak at a fish joint. On her return from the kitchen, Jessica came directly at me and said: I heard what you said. Our seafood is fresh every day.I explained that what she heard was not what she thought. But as I said above, niceties were over with her.A short while later, she delivered my steak and announced that they were all out of sweet potatoes. What did I want instead? At this point I stupidly asked her how wrong she thought it was that I had been waiting for the steak for probably 30 minutes, yet it was as she delivered the steak that she told me they were out of my side choice. She threw her arms in the air and sarcastically screamed at me that shes sooooooo very sorry that nothing there is good enough for me. She turned and stormed away while issuing a diatribe about what an idiot I was.Shortly thereafter, the manager, Mike, approached, and asked how everything was going. It didnt take me long to realize that Mike and Jessica were involved, as Mike defended everything that I said was wrong. In response to my question, he said they were engaged. He explained that there was nothing wrong with the crab meat, and that it was a simple, forgivable mistake that the chef didnt count the sweet potatoes until my entrée was ready. I explained that the crab meat didnt taste right. And he shot back that his kitchen staff enjoyed the dish I sent back. (Very unprofessional, Mike. Dont tell the customer hes wrong--that what tasted bad to him wasnt bad at all. Just make it right.)I explained that I had come there to enjoy a top-shelf meal, no matter the cost, but that his fiance and the questionable food had put a fast stop to that idea.In the end, I ate a couple bites of the steak, which was average, at best. And I didnt touch the potato. Manager Mike bought me a beer as some gesture of consolation. Some consolation.I wont go back.Thinking about going there? Dont. There are plenty of good restaurants in Staten Island where you dont get abused for sending something back.
Water...its the only thing that tasted good here.Alll of the great 5 star reviews must be fake.Just like the Eddie Murphy picture above the bar,no way would he go here. The french dip I had was a insult to the french the bread used was of the supermarket variety. My wifes steak was all gristle and fat no meat period. Hell the french fries were prefrozen from a bag. Ill stick to Keens or even Chadwick in Bay Ridge.
One of the most OVER-rated places I have ever seen. The place is fair at best....the staff is cold and unfriendly...place doesnt smell the greatest....parking is horrible. The prices are EXPENSIVE.....bring a fat wallet. For such a hole in the wall, the prices astound me. Never again. The feckless owner need not reply to this post....I dont want to hear your obsequious response,
Well mixed feelings first time we went we loved it . Second time we went we waited over an hour and a half to get our food ( with no apologies or explanation) third time we went I ordered the queen cut prime and was given the king ,( 20 dollar difference) and it was so loud you couldnt hear yourself think in the backroom.

2021-11-16The West Shore Inn is my familys number one go-to spot on Staten Island. Somehow, even with such a diverse menu, everything is always delicious. It may be a steakhouse but they specialize in so much more. Im particularly a fan of their penne vodka and honestly writing this review right now is making me want to go back and get an order of that pasta right now. It is a bar as well as a restaurant and it has the feel of a pub you might walk into in the English countryside. The staff are always very nice and even though most times there is a bit of a wait for a table its worth it, believe me. I definitely recommend having dinner here if you get the chance to!

2022-06-19Oyyyyy. Wife and I had the Kansas cut steak and medium rare. Thing was beautiful and cooked to perfection. Broccoli on the side with melted butter and mashed potatoes with bacon and cheese melted on top. Washed it down with a blue moon beer. From 1-10 I give tonight a 10.

2022-04-21Made reservations for Easter Sunday, walked in sat down and had a delicious dinner with my family. Can’t believe it took us this long to go here. Great food, great service and the Sangria is amazing Red or White. I’m a steak girl and have been looking for a go to steak place on Staten Island. They definitely did not disappoint! The cozy atmosphere was just an added plus! Will definitely be back again soon!

2022-01-12Phenomenal food. Quaint little spot, with lots of history. The owner was out sitting and talking with the customers. Very homey spot for a nice quiet family dinner.

2022-04-20The food is always delicious, the owner is always pleasant & has on a smile, the prices are steep, but portions are generous & the taste of the food never disappoints. We had a great waiter, ended up spending under $160 for 3 adults & 2 kids. We got 2 apps, 1 steak & 1 salmon entree, added loaded mashed to an entree, 1 crab & corn bisque, 1 kids meal & 2 sides of fries. Id say we got our $$$ worth, will definitely be a repeat customer, I especially recommend west shore inn steakhouse for any & all parties/gatherings, I had a few gathering in the back room, party prices PP are great especially because the food is so good.

2022-04-07My dad and I just had lunch here and it was so delicious. I had the chicken parmigiana and my dad had the west shore burger. The food was truly amazing. We’re all the way from Florida visiting and we do not have these kinds of steakhouses down there. I sure wish we had you guys! The service was great too. Thank you for having us!

2022-06-21Horrible. I use to come to this place all the time. I ordered wings and there was one drumstick and the rest were thighs. They tasted horrible. My girlfriend and i ordered burgers well done. When they came out they were both rare. The soda tastes bad. Nothing was good. Never again.

2022-04-29West Shore crab cake & burger combo is a big hit and well worth waiting 10min for a seat at the bar on a windy Thursday evening. Also their garlic mashed potatoes proved a perfectly tangy substitute for fries. Having seen the steak only from a distance I will definitely have to return, to see if it tastes as amazing as it looks!
