I cant say enough good things about this fab restaurant! My group and I felt comfortable and welcomed. It is a small space, but they maximize every inch in such a beautifully detailed way. Its listed as one of the most instagrammable spots in NYC for a reason. But, what was even more impressive to me was the quality and taste of the food! This is one place where the food and drinks were every bit as good as the atmosphere. We went there to celebrate a couple birthdays, and we were all pleased with everything we ate and drank. To boot, the service was also excellent! Steven was looking after us while we were there, and he was genuinely fun (and great). This triple win (atmosphere, taste, service) is a rare find in NYC. Definitely make a reservation and try for yourself. I went there for dinner and plan on going back to try their brunch.I realized I didnt take any pictures of the actual space. I guess I was too busy having a great time.
Really tasty (and pretty) cocktails and food. Steven handled my gluten-free needs with professionalism. Excellent service overall. Had the tuna tartare, Japanese squash, and salmon. All delicious. Prix fixe two courses for $39 with good serving sizes. Cant wait to go back.
Scrumptious . Who knew arugula , Brie and fig jam would be so delicious on a burger . Kale salad was perfection . Exceptional flavor & crunch . Had their signature while we were young cocktail which was lovely & aromatic . Everything was a tad pricey but hey rent’s high in these parts . All Worth it and will be back again for that mouth watering burger if nothing else . Yum.
After a not so great experience at a place nearby, my two friends and I ventured to this spot for dinner and drinks. We had such an incredible time. Our server was so wonderful & lovely and really took the time to explain the superb cocktails; He made us feel right at home. I had the salmon which was to die for, one of my friends had the Tuna Tartare and the other had the brussels sprouts. The cocktails, which we each tried at least three, were outstanding, the different presentations for each were on point. Three of our friends eventually joined us and we had a few more cocktails. All and all the perfect evening.
Word of warning. If you come for brunch on the weekends, its a lengthy wait. BUT! Its a beautiful experience. We left our name and walked and browsed the neighborhood. We came back and our table was ready. Mind you, the space is VERY small hence the long wait. But if youre here for the gram, I guarantee its worth the wait. Every drink we ordered was beautiful. We ordered a little bit of everything so we had a nice spread and could try it all. Everything was delicious. We were there end of August when the upholstery was still pink. Saw they changed it over to purple so we might look for a day to go back and do it again! 💖 The hostess, bartender and cute waiter were all super nice and accommodating to our crazy camera happy selves too as we Instagrammed away taking a million photos of everything.
This restaurant has the cutest cocktails and the most delicious food you’ll try in NY! Everyone we spoke to (staff) in this restaurant were all extremely friendly! I had the short rib, and my sister had the dumplings and salmon. Definitely a must-try restaurant in NY!
If I could open up a dream restaurant, While We Were Young, would be EXACTLY it. Not only is the inside and decor modern, chic, and bright, they have creative and delicious cocktails! Everything here is about aesthetic - from the cocktail glasses to the plating to the seats, I love everything about it. I even booked my big birthday here and came with five of my friends. It is a very small restaurant so the largest group is probably six people. I started off with the If youre a bird, Im a bird cocktail and it came in this very cute bird glass. It was funny because the straw is in the butt part of the bird, but it was delicious and tasted of pear. Dinner here is pre fixe where you can get an appetizer and entree for $45. A little pricy but I thought it was worth it. As my appetizer, I order the big eyed tuna tart which has a buttery and flaky crust with black truffle cream in between the tuna and the crust. SO GOOD and the whole dish was the size of the entire plate. It also costs $3 extra but it was worth it. For my entree I had the While We Were Young burger with bacon fig chutney and fries. I had the burger here the time before this and thought it was better the first time. I think I needed more fig chutney where the sweet fig enhances and brings out the savory flavors of the burger more. The burger patty itself was cooked to perfection though. I ended my birthday dinner with a surprise cake (brought in from an outside bakery) and the restaurant gave us complimentary While We Were Young cocktail shots in the cutest, smallest cups with a flower petal attached to the cup via a tiny pink clip. I forgot to mention our waitress, Rebecca, was fantastic! She was so friendly and helpful and knew where to place my giant balloons. She was also a pro-picture taker too. Thank you so much for making my birthday AMAZING. Ill be back soon :)
What a pleasant surprise ! During our trip to New York, we had so many restaurants on our list that we didn’t expect much each day we’d go to eat, except that we were going to get good food. When we arrived, we found a quaint, cute dinner spot (that actually looks way bigger online!). They accommodated our late reservation, as we were running behind schedule and had to travel a bit far to get there. The service was like no other ! We had an amazingly friendly, honest and attentive server who got to know about us and vice versa so organically. He recommended amazing dishes that I’m still thinking about to this day LOL.I personally had the burger which was amazing, my sister had a kale salad (best kale salad I’ve ever had! & I’m not even that big of a fan of kale!) and my mother had the salmon. I believer our favourite part was the fried cauliflower appetizer. I need that in my life daily. The aesthetic was absolutely beautiful. Pink, Markle and glass/gold accents everywhere - very trendy but timeless. And at night it’s extremely romantic and calming.I will definitely be back here again!
This is my favorite go-to cocktail bar. The interior design is pretty and the staffs are friendly as well. It is small so usually gets crowded right around 6pm. Food is well-presented and tastes good. It is a instagrammable place though so there will be bunch of people taking millions of photos (but not too distracting).
A wonderful experience I had there with my friend today. I really enjoyed their avacado on toast, and their Talk To Me Dirty cocktail. It was made perfectly! The staff is very polite and attentive.I look forward to returning here, and recommending more of my friends to it.
If youre an Instagram blogger, this place is for you. Basically everyone else in this place was! Which was about seven people; its very very very small. Busy- get there right when it opens. The food is honestly amazing. The staff was very accommodating for photos and the service was fast. Four stars rather than five due to the cramped space.
A small menu and even smaller place (12 seats and 10-14 bar spaces) but a very ethereal aesthetic with some great dishes like the burger (mouthwatering between that cheese and thick slab bacon combo) and the salmon (2018 style- with the kale reduction akin to a pesto). One of about 15 restaurants in the city I’ve repeated going to.
This place is a hole in the wall but the food is amazing!! You definitely need a reservation. Pictured is the Braised Short Rib with a little bit of mash, greens and mushrooms, 2 slices of toast and a gravy. The Kale Salad was sooooo delicious!!Ordered a carrot cake and thought it was two whole wheat slices of bread. The appearance of the carrot cake is not what you are used to but the taste was dynamite!!All and all its a cool spot to go to While We Were Young :)
My wife wanted to come here having seen it on instagram. She was surprised by how small it was. It was beautifully decorated though and had lots of fresh flowers and neon light signs. As we were only having a drink we were asked to sit by the window which overlooks the street (see picture). This wasn’t as nice as the lilac seating reserved for those also eating. There was only one wall of those seats. The cocktails were pretty and standard price for New York. There were not many people there on a Sunday afternoon and not too much ambience. We only stayed for one drink. Two of the other guests who were sat at the tables appeared to be there mostly to take photos and to pose.
This is one of my favorite places in nyc. The bird drink is a really tasty fruity drink that strikes a nice balance and isnt too sweet. Very well mixed. The burger here is also one of the best. Great flavors and the staff is wonderful as well. Cant recommend this place enough. Make a reservation though, the place is very small.
I cant say good enough things about this restaurant. The service was PHENOMENAL!!! Moving to NYC from the south was a big customer service shock for me and While We Were Young reminded me what good customer service was. We were celebrating a birthday late on a Sunday night (great time to go) and the staff was excited, friendly, helpful and funny. The food was great too, small portions, so just remember that before you go! The drinks were AMAZING! And interior decor was on point, albeit the square footage was a tad small, but I think that adds to the ambiance truly. I would go back weekendly if my wallet allowed 💖
Came for my birthday & absolutely loved it! Was not expecting the food to be that good and it exceeded expectations. Only problem was that the restaurant is so small!! Only seats 4 parties at a time. Good spot for cocktails & $$ but worth the money for a nice brunch or dinner one night.
Cute interior with a nice drinks list but food and service could be better. Dont think its worth the wait so come right when they open or for a late lunch. The marble countertops are really cute and definitely an instagrammers heaven. However, the space is really crowded, I wish there was a bit more room. The light during the day makes the room very pretty. Okay, now onto the food. Unfortunately, its nothing special. We ordered the avocado toast, scallops and truffle fries. All decent but not mind blowing. They have a nice drinks list so if theres no line Id come here just for drinks and chat with friends.Lastly, service was mediocre. Theyre not very friendly but not rude either. Everytime we needed something including our initial order, we had to ask for someone. Maybe its because we sat in the corner so were easily forgotten? Not sure, but the service definitely needs improvement.
What a magical experience! Our waiter was so great! Steven treated my best friend and I like we were queens! The ambiance was very warm, hip, and welcoming. The food melted in our mouths!! I got the chicken and kale waffles. They were to “die for!” I didn’t think that kale waffles would be good, however I was pleasantly surprised at being wrong. I highly recommend this place, and I’ll definitely be going back. What a beautiful hidden treasure!
We had our wedding reception at While We Were Young this past weekend - and our guests cannot stop raving about it! The food and drinks are out of this world delicious. You can tell how much love is put into each dish they make (Yes, its THAT good). The venue is stunning as well - they do a wonderful job with the decor.Bradford & his team truly went above and beyond - I cannot thank them enough for making our night absolutely perfect.
This place seems like it was meant to be on a food Instagram. Drinks are named after popular songs, and along with food, are present in a photogenic way. Food is good not great but drinks were better. The space is pretty cramped and cannot see more than 15 people I want to say. Because of this, waiters understandably cant seat you unitl your entire party has arrived so keep that in mind when you make plans.
Came just for drinks and apps - although we were told that reservations are for dinner only, so we felt badly that we weren’t planning to do dinner, but also would suggest calling that out more/making it more obvious when someone is making reservations. Drinks were all really good though!! Space is smaller and less pink/Aesthetic than it looks on Instagram.
The best experience ever! It was my birthday and we made reservations for a small group but more friends kept showing up. The guys were great because they accommodated all of us despite not having fair warning. It was appreciated so very much! Everyone had such a great time and was raving about how great the food was. The burger is what I got and it was mouth watering. The great prawn and spicy dumpling appetizers were so good, I definitely intend to go back for more. And the drinks! The drinks are all so pretty and tasted even more wonderful. I honestly can’t thank the restaurant staff enough for making this one of the best birthday’s ever!
My friends and I came here last Saturday and had a really great experience. The staff was extremely welcoming and attentive, the burger was insanely good and loved the fact I could sub brussel sprouts instead of fries which were incredible btw. As for the drinks they were some of the best and most original cocktails I’ve had in a very long time. I can’t wait to go back and try more!
This restaurant is truly a dream come true! How do I even describe this stunning restaurant- modern, chic and charming! Our waiter was a sweet heart and the service was just lovely!I had the spicy chicken dumplings- incredible flavors. For my entree I had the while we were young burger which was delicious! The aesthetic was absolutely beautiful. Pink flowers and gold accents everywhere - very trendy!Ended up eating all my food because it was all just delicious!
Really delicious food, really beautiful TINY spot, and amazing drinks! The staff was nice to a point.3 stars because my party of 3 was in there for only about an hour, and we were reminded that they have other reservations coming in at least 3 times. We felt rushed and pushed the entire time. For the $300 we spent there, we expected more from the service.
Really great new spot. Clean look with good energy for the West Village. Cocktail list is fun and inventive, and the food was legit. Love the menu, something for everyone. We tried the scallops, chicken&waffles, and the burger. All 3 were amazing, would put the burger up against the best in the city.
Decor, service, food and cocktails that are perfect for a solo lunch! I went on a Thursday at noon for their brunch menu and the vibe was so chill and modern, not to mention instagrammable. I was immediately greeted by a smiling face behind the bar and beautiful bouquet of flowers on my table! I ordered the Texts From Last Night cocktail, nice and crisp with a hint of sour, and the truffle omelette with feta. Would absolutely go back with friends to try the dinner menu!
This is my very fav spot to dine solo or with a friend in NY. The food is phenomenal and consistent, the staff is friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is charming. The must-haves are the Cauliflower tater-tots, Brussels sprouts, salmon, and the squash (seasonally). I’ve tasted other menu items that my friends had and haven’t had anything I didn’t like! Plus you’re right next door for live jazz at Smalls after/before!
This place was amazing! The workers where hands down the best people we met while visiting NYC and this will be our must go place whenever we visit. We ordered every featured cocktail and each one was made to perfection, tasted amazing and the presentation was perfect!
I only drank cocktails and I didnt drink their Instagram cocktails, although the temptation to be that guy, was there. I didnt eat the food so I wont speak about that, but the cocktails I had were well made, balanced, and thoughtfully created. Would definitely recommend for cocktail enthusiasts. The restaurant is small, so be prepared to wait for seating.
Came here recently for dinner with a girlfriend a few weeks ago on a Friday night and had the best time! If youre looking for a fun, feminine spot for a Girls Night with quality cocktails, good food, solid service and ambiance, look no further! My friend opted for the salmon and I tried the burger which was absolutely delicious. Their cocktail list is sure to impress, not only are the craft cocktails delivered to your table in cute glass formations (a bird shaped glass for the cocktail If Youre a Bird, Im a Bird and a tiny globe with blue drink in it and a tiny airplane fastened to it, aptly titled, Mile High Club. Its not a huge spot so reservations are definitely encouraged but it would be a shame to pass up on this spot. As far as girly hotpsots go, this is a definite one to add to the list!
The place is very nice, very girly, lots of flowers. The food is good too and the drinks are so nice, and the stuff very friendly . The only thing I don’t like are the prices of the food. I understand the drinks, but $18 for a small piece of avocado toast is really too much. I will only come back for the drinks.
Went for prix fixe brunch on a Saturday morning. Went at 11am and there was no wait for our party of 8. Steven, our server, was superb and even took photos for us. The food was pretty good and filling. I could only finish half the eggs benedict! Flavors were unique especially the burrata.
The cocktails are great, but definitely pricey. Not sure it’s worth spending $18 on. I tried the “If You’re A Bird, I’m a Bird” ($18) which has vodka, lavender honey syrup, pear juice, and lemon and is served in a fun, bird-shaped glass. My friend got the “It Takes Two to Make a Thing Go Right” ($16) which has mezcal, tequila, rosemary, and orange bitters. Both were delicious, but not worth the price in my opinion. The staff was not very attentive or friendly, although one of them seemed sick as there was DayQuil right next to the liquor on the bar. The space is small, but the decor is nice. I likely will not return.
As picture perfect as the food and the drinks come out, taste is not sacrificed. This small Instagram-haven is a perfect place for drinks at the bar or full mea, proving it’s versatility. Highly recommend coming in with a reservation so you can choose your pick between a regular table or the bar.
I enjoyed the food, customer service and drinks !!!! I had a wonderful server by the name of Alicia who was a sweetheart. The atmosphere was positive vibes. The place is small but its super cute. Check it out, I will be back here when I get a potential boo thang lol. Thank you so much guys.
I have severe autoimmune issues that require me to eat in a specific way. It makes eating out nearly impossible and Im used to going hungry in lieu of getting to the point of sick and out of commission. If restaurants try to accommodate me theyll give me a handful of ill prepared vegetables. When I told the beautiful, friendly and talented restaurant manager, Yanette, that I would pass on ordering she sent her chef to me. He went above and beyond for me and made me a dish with all the things I can eat AND made it in such a way that was DELICIOUS. I cant begin to thank this restaurant for accomdating me. Im visiting NYC with friends and you made my day: I got to enjoy my time and not worry about eating. Genuinely, thank you. My less complicated friends said the food was the best I ever had. Come here. Spend money here. Thank their cute and amazing chef!
AWESOME FOOD and great ambiance. Went here the other night for dinner with 2 friends. At first when I walked in I thought the place was small but after sitting a little while you realize the place is perfect. The food, the waitress, the bartender, the decor....just amazing. So glad this place was recommended. Try the kale waffles! Sooooooo good
Its a restaurant with nice, stylish design and friendly staff. Good location, nearby touristic friends house and Carry Bradshou from Sex and the City apartment. But its really tiny! And the menu is disappointed us. Its not a place for lunch, more for for breakfast. And price for omelettes/toasts are expensive.
Ive been to Michelin star restaurants with food, drinks and service that fall short of this gem.Interior worthy of Architectural Design Magazine.Favourite dish being the Tuna tartare but would happily close my eyes and point at the menu without being disappointed. This place is set to be an absolute favourite.
Went here for a brunch event. Food, decor, and drinks were pretty good. Apparently the owner also runs the instagram account and I found out later that they had stolen a pic from my instagram and then posted it without credit. Wouldnt have bothered me too much except they blatantly ignored me for almost a week and that has completely soured the experience for me so I wont be going back.
GENERIC PLACEmostly out of town patrons. Place is very generic, small (which for somebody means is cute) and has a really generic vibe, generic menu and nothing special drinks..Nothing unique at this establishment, actually kind of the contrary.Definitely not my type of place..
Out of all the new restaurants in the West Village this was the absolutely most disappointing. Incredibly bad service and management! It would have been tolerable if not for the southern food with a nausea flare. Avoid avoid avoid! The spotted pig is just a short ride away.
So, I have to start this review saying: I am blond.NO BIG DEAL BUT IAM BLOND. Tonight, I was enjoying my meal when I had a spoon of lovely pasta with BLACK CURLY HAIR!! I was so disgusted!! I alerted the kind blonde waitress. She said that perhaps the hair came from my head! Im blond! NO BLACK HAIR! NOT MINE. I asked to speak to the manager (w/ a backwards baseball cap & skinny jeans ) he said Ms. you had enough pasta and you should go home.WHAT? FAT SHAME ME?Never ever go here. Its Grays Paypaya with a marble countertop.#grosss
Super insta-worthy! Smaller than I expected, but arranged so that you do not notice it. The avocado toast is really recommended! Looking for an Instagrammable cocktail bar? Lets give it a try! No idea what you should go for, the waiter will be happy to give you advice or surprise you with something that suits your clothes.

2022-02-14Such an adorable place! Everything is picture worthy from the cocktails to the food to the decor. The staff was pretty nice and the place was decorated so well *chefs kiss*.The food was good but nothing mind blowing, I don’t think food taste is the major draw in for these places. Its definitely one of those -go to Instagram kind of places- Still really cute, a fun place to go for quick bite brunches with the girls!

2022-02-19The cuties place ever. You should make a reservation because it gets busy fast. Seats 20 people and the drinks are to die for. I was able to get in, at a busy time 130pm. The host was so nice, the servicer was sweet and the bar tender. What can I say, literally must try one of their drinks.Of course I did the prefix brunch. Tuna Tata and avocado toast. Started a little backwards with a. Plan B then a one night stand. But yet best choice ever.

2022-04-18While we were young is worth the hype. It’s such a cute ambiance, the music was great. The food is good and there are lots of options on the prefix menu. The drinks were crafted and cute, some of the drinks come in themed glasses. You have to get a reservation seven days in advance which makes it a little hard to get a reservation but we’ll worth the wait. The only reason I didn’t give this place a five is because it’s so small and the furniture needs some cleaning.

2021-10-27This was such an amazing place in West Village for a nice dinner. The meal is a pre fixed 2 course meal which is a tad pricey but worth it.Great spot for dates and special occasions. The cocktails are so uniquely presented and dont lack a punch in taste or strengthThe food was amazing. Rich and flavorful and quite filling. I had the burrata, kale salad and tortellini. My friends has the burger which they said was delicious

2022-03-21Quintessential New York City dining. The food was very good (not sure about the fried polenta under the short rib though). All dinner menu is prix fix. The cocktails were also very good but small. Our server Steven was lovely and the simple decor was nice. All in all I will for sure will come back to try brunch but I will be mentally prepared for the sticker shock. :)

2022-02-21My boyfriend and I stumbled over While We Were Young looking for somewhere to go for our anniversary dinner after our original plans fell through. Its an adorable small venue with 3-4 tables and a very limited bar seating. We both really enjoyed their prix fixe menu and drinks! My boyfriend got their house cocktail and loved it, and I really enjoyed Something Fruity with Gin, but the real star was the food. The menu was small but everything was delicious. We even met the owner, who was very kind as well! My boyfriend keeps bringing up the brie burger he decided on and wants to find a way to recreate it. If you have a small party and can get in, I really recommend adding While We Were Young to your itinerary.

2021-09-23I wish we had spent more time here!!!Service was prompt and attentive. They have the cutest menu! We had a hard time choosing but ultimately selectingThe I’m bird is you’re a bird, and While we are young cocktails. We only had one each, as we were waiting for a dinner reservation near by. Both cocktails were perfectly a mix of sweet and smooth. Prices were average, but well worth it! Service was extremely attentive and didn’t mind we were only having cocktails!Outdoor seating is preferable.. the people watching is amazing here!
