Nice spot after work happy hour.I love the chichirones (chopped little fried chicken) with fried plantains or with red beans and yellow rice. The bar is live happy hour (Margaritas and mojitos $7) and the drinks were pretty good and reasonable.Cool Staff!!!ALERT.....NEW MANAGEMENT.....ALERTMAY 2019Will do a updated review for the restaurant under new management soon...
We just moved in to a new place and decided to check this place out. If I knew it was going to be this good I would’ve taken a picture before devouring my food, we order penne allá vodka with chicken of course, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, how you knew.... the food was still hot when it arrived, and it was delicious. we also got the 3 mofonguitos with pollo and white sauce , of course . It was so delicious ! The mofongo was really flavorful just how I like it. An order of tostones with a garlic sauce, can’t forget the garlic. And French fries. I definitely recommend this place, it was quick and worth your money. Can’t wait for next time.
Food is good as hell. If youre doing takeout, just make sure you check your order before you leave. They get it extremely wrong from time to time. Its happened to me about 3 times. Lesson learned though. And good luck trying to get that rectified, because management will stick up for their employees hardbody. Something that I greatly respect, but its obviously enraging as a consumer as well. Honestly... If the food werent so good, or if this were any other establishment, I probably wouldnt even mess with this place because of that. But the food really is that good, plus its the only spot like this around. Me being originally from the Bronx, I could always find a few options like this. So I definitely appreciate Yayo. Its proximity to Barclays Center (about a block away) is another another one in the pro column.
The experience was terrible. When our group arrivedat our scheduled reservation we sat down ordered drinks and after about 15 min the wait staff infous there were out of rice. We canceled our drinks and at no time there was an apology from anyone. As we walked out they stared at us as we did something. Do not recommend this place. By the way it only takes about 15 to 20 minutes to make rice. They didnt offer. We would have ordered appetizers. They seemed to want to get home. Ended up going to another place. El Viejo Yayo 2. Excellent service and not related to the first place.
Self explanatory. I went 1/8/2020 This was the second burger I received after returning the first from being so burnt there were burnt bits . After all that I said I wouldn’t pay for the burgers and got empanadas instead . They were greasy and tasted like old oil . I am very unhappy . After experiencing that raw taste and texture I haven’t been able to eat meat and I was feeling sick for a few days as well.
They must have changed their chef/cook. The food here was nice and amazing at one time. We visited yesterday and were very disappointed. We had arroz blanco con habichuelas rojas y chicharrón de pollo boneless. There was so much comino and another spice in the beans, I had an upset stomach all night. The rice serving was so small and the maduros were under cooked. For the serving of rice and beans $16 was an awful lot of money for the portion served. I don’t mind paying money but make it worth it. I was very sad and upset since I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid and now I traveled a long distance to be Ill all night. Won’t be returning any time soon😞.
Big portions, lots of seating (which is maybe only a plus for someone trying to plan a big dinner or if youre looking for that suburban America experience!) and friendly staff dont save the mediocre food and some puzzling pricing. First, Id like to address the complementary potato chips and sauce. The chips were light and seemed house-made, but had an old grease taste and were room temperature. The sauce tasted like marinara sauce. That and potato chips is not something Id had before, and its not something Id like to have again. I ordered the chicken stew with a side of rice and beans, and a side of patacones. The stew was bountiful, but bland. Because it was bone in chicken, I kept getting bits of bone and gristle with each bite. The red beans were also disappointingly bland; the rice was fine. Finally the pricing. Without a drink my dinner was $24. Thats not cheap and at that price range theres plenty of options in Brooklyn.
Beef oxtail and mofongo are delicious, octopus salad, the octopus too hard, filled avocado is good too. However, they overcook all meat. My rare steak was a well done and same for other people. No baby changer in restrooms and they were putting the music super loud even we mentioned twice as we had a couple of kids. Desserts the lava cake is ok. Good for groups.
Poor customer service. Waited 30 minutes just to find out due to a large party in the business,i had to wait another 20 minutes just to get appetizers. No communication between the server. Management needs to do a better job in engaging its clients. All my party had was just water. Bad experience.
The chefs at El Viejo Yayo have never disappointed me. Every dish Ive had is expertly seasoned, well balanced in taste and depth of flavor. Though simple, I give their potato salad and honorable mention. This establishment is very clean and the staff consistently friendly and welcoming. BTW, I especially like their Christmas decorations.
First and foremost thank you for allowing my family to have our family repast here in the banquet area. Ok so we showed up around 6pm waited 2.5 hours yup for our food. Was only served a small salad within the hour. Had to chase a waiter down for ice water. Was hot in there. Asked blonde waitress if she could turn on the air conditioner and her response was “ it’s cold over here (meaning near the entrance) what do you want from me ? Cool air or your food!!! Then she went around taking orders and names. My question is how are you going to remember each order and match it with a face? Ummm can’t. No table number on the tables. Poor teamwork. Her attitude was very unprofessional. My brother ordered fish and was asked 4x’s by 4 different staff what he ordered. Now we came from out of state and waited 2.5 hours I kid u not for food to be brought to our table and the staff had no idea which table ordered what. Young guy there Left hot food on tray unintended for a good 5 minutes. They walked around asking ppl if they ordered certain foods that they brought out. They were clueless but yet had slips of paper with ppls names on it. So basically you was walking up to tables and saying “ Did you order the chicken?” And ppl that didn’t place orders were like yeah I ordered that just to get a free meal. Smh. Some food was undercooked or too tough to eat. This place will never see my face again very unorganized especially when you knew a large party was coming. I just hope that next time you have a event like this you be more prepped and prepared. Use table numbers or buffet style, and of course BE PROMPT with the food. You finish one dish remove the dirties before you bring out the entree.
If I could give no stars I would because the level of service and the way this restaurant is being ran now in 2021 is a shame. The interior decor & lighting was horribly done and the restaurant had a terrible draft. Some of the food we ordered was uncooked. The wait staff were no help when it came to menu options & choices AND the last straw was the bill. The bill for four people to dine and a few drinks came out to $276 with a $40 tip included, which is more than 20% gratuity. The gentleman I dined with were extremely generous, but the experience was one that I would never like to have again in a restaurant. Extremely unimpressed, disappointed and in fact very taken back because this restaurant about 10 years ago was a beautiful establishment that served great Latin American food. Really a shame and a waste of money now. If you value your stomach and your wallet I do not suggest eating at this establishment.
Im sorry I dont know why it was a one star it shouldve been five stars. . I have been going there with my family since The early 80s my dad would bring us there every weekend. I remember when it was red and white and every table had a jukebox to play music and a mini arcade in the back. I have always loved the food there the best Spanish food in Brooklyn hands down
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS!! I’ve both hosted a party here and also tried to order takeout and both times I regretted it. I hosted a birthday party here and me and my guests were ignored and disrespected the entire night. When we tried to voice this to the manager we were shut down! Assuming it was an off night I’ve since tried to order takeout and it was equally regrettable. Received 1/3 of my order and when I called the restaurant to fix it I was told it’s not their problem. They did not even attempt to fix the situation. DO NOT EAT HERE. There are too many Dominican restaurants available to have to support a nasty low life establishment!
WorstI ordered two Cuban sandwiches with fries which are $14 each and a grill chicken salad that cost $18. When the food came my bill was $57. They don’t tell you that fries are $5 extra and not included with the sandwich.Stay away from that place. Under the old management it was much better and honest. The new management wants to make a quick dollar with less food and dishonest
It was alright. I have had better times in the past there. No bread, no lobster except for another entryAnd no octopus for one of my guests. There was confusion with the waitress; instead of our meals coming out in quick succession one couples food came after 6 of us were nearly finished. Waitress didnt come over inquire if anything was needed. We had to caught her when we could or ask the bus boy to send her over.
The food was delicious, however, the pricing was way too much. I had oxtails with rice and sweet plantains and a margarita. My husband had rice, beans and chicken with tostones. Our bill came out to $75 plus we gave a $10 tip. We’ve had that same meal at another Latin Cuisine restaurant and we spent $45. Definitely overpriced.
Great food, worse service ever! Even after telling our server we had a concert to go to, he pretty much ignored us. Half an hour later, we asked him to check on our food. He said he would then disappeared. Flagged down another server, she said she would check on our order and then did nothing. When we finally spoke to a manager, he immediately brought our dishes from the kitchen. They screwed up the sides of both our orders. During this entire time, our server was MIA. Did I mention the restaurant was half empty? And that he never apologized? In a clumsy attempt at recovery, the manager tried to force a free dessert on us. We reminded him we had no time because we were now late for our concert. I work in hospitality, so I know mistakes happen. But its all about how you recover and try to make up for it. Yayos failed miserably. Three service interactions, no follow ups. We even had to retrieve our bill from the cashier to pay because it was taking so long. This is the first time in my life that I have never left a tip--thats how awful it was. A shame the waitstaff isnt on par with the culinary team.
If anyone knows me, they know I like Latin food. This was the worst experience I ever had at any restaurant I have been to. I sit down and they give us water. We asked for a straw three times. I ordered a drink and they didn’t have what I ordered. A simple frozen margarita. The waiter said it wasn’t frozen and would I like him to put some ice in it. Ummm no just bring a regular margarita. We waited for appetizers and then we waited for the our meal. We waited and waited. Finally my husband said give him the check for the appetizers and drink so we could go. They couldn’t get that right either. We left. What a horrible experience.!
This was my first time eating at El Viejo Yayo and I was so impressed. The inside decor was very well put together. As Im sitting waiting for my food I happened to look over to a nearby table and instantly became anxious for my food. The presentation of the food, from afar, made me salivate. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. Once my food arrived; white rice with red beans, boneless chicken chunks and fried plantains, I immediately dug in. The food was as delicious as I had anticipated. The price was a bit costly, but worth every bite. I would definitely recommend eating here.
Best Latin Food! This restaurant has been on my list to try because I past by it for years near the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. We went during Covid Phase 4 and had a good experience. Our waiter was friendly and funny. I believe he was Dominican, very handsome, charming and attentive. He spoke little English and I tried my Spanish and we were able to communicate well!Hands down the best chicharron de cerdo Ive ever had (nice crisp and little oil) and my dinner date has the pernil that was soft, juicy and tasty. They have additional outdoor seating across the street too. I took my leftover to work and my coworker ate it and he said its the best he had ( note that he is Latin)I will be back!PS I forgot to share about the yummy happy hour drinks. I loved the Rum Punch!
Excellent... Maybe you didnt hear me.. Excellent.. Went to celebrate my last day in my unit.. Get the rum punch.. Definitely..I had the pork chops.. You get 2 plus rice and beans.. They were the size of the plate itself.. Staff was very attentive and made sure our group was well attended to.. Definitely recommend this spot.. Prices were fantastic.. Make sure you bring your appetite
This was my first time coming to Nyc and I asked someone what’s the best Dominican food here and he said this place,I went and everything was sooo delicious 🤤 I tried the Mofongo with garlic and the pierne and it was so good.I must say, this was better then any restaurant I’ve tried.I definitely recommend this place.Service was also great, very welcoming.
It is a family style restaurant. The service was friendly. We had an appetizer platter which was good. The pastelillos, chicken wings and calamari were well seasoned and crispy. I had the salmon with rice with gandules. The salmon was dry and overcooked, and the rice was crunchy and undercooked. I tasted my husbands chicken which was very good.
When seated inside the restaurant a gentleman, presumably the floor manager, greeted my sister and I. He stated the law now requires him to review and document our drivers license information in order sit inside. I was very uncomfortable with him walking away with my drivers license. I guess this is our new norm where identity theft will be on the rise. I was already a victim of such 2 years ago...and now Im order to eat a chicken wing inside the restaurant you have to give up lots of personal information.
First time at a Dominican restaurant and the food was lovely, although the service was quite slow (our wait time was almost half an hour). That said, I like that the server brought all our orders in one go, and was pleasant all the way. The dining area could use some updating.
The food is tasty, especially the crispy yuca fries which are very unique. However, we made a family reservation based upon the menu on the website, only to arrive and be told that the online menu is no longer valid. That menu is why my niece choose this restaurant, but the manager chose not to honor the online menu for us. We stayed anyway and had a tasty meal with nice service from Eric and crew.
It pains me to write this. After a renovation it reopened under new ownership and I must say My family and I were disappointed. We have been customers for 20+ years. The food was not good, service was adequate but well below what we have experienced in the past. The menu is much reduced-- no bread is provided which is a highly unusual for a Spanish resturant. I hope they can turn things around.
I go every Sunday after class and eat at the counter. I love the chicken soup especially and get a large bowl. I’ve had the Pernil (perfect), the Mofongo (excellent). The beans are very good. What more could you ask for?I took away a star because of a patron. He should’ve been asked to leave. Thankfully the ones who brought him apologized for and encouraged him to do exactly that
Very disappointed!!!! We have been going to this place for years and Saturday when we ordered on the phone we ordered a Rice with Gandulez for 25 people and the lady on the phone quoted for $35.00. When we got there it was a tray for 4 people and we told the manager and when we went to pay he charged us $60.00 for a plain Rice when Gandulez no meat, no taste just a plain rice, we asked for him to give it to us for $50.00 because of the bad quote and he just said “oh now you are playing with my beans” No way I will go back to this place because my sister would of done a much better tasty rice than this one!!! Very disappointed!
I went last night w my family for dinner & we were very disappointed. Food was good except for my nephew who wasnt happy w his food & returned it. Service SUCKED. Long wait to be served main course. The waiter had to take all orders for appetizers, alcohol drinks, main entree, & clear the table in between every serving all by himself. There was NO bus boy to do that. I did not like the fashion in which food was served. Then I had given the waiter a CARVEL ICE CREAM cake to put away while we ate & when we asked for it, It was all melted. I complained to manager who did not chg for my nephews food but that was it. He said sorry but it was busy. Ummm I was there & yes there were ppl but it was NOT that busy. I told him he needed to hire bus boys for waiter/waitress back up. We will never go there again for dinner.
Worst place to go for a drink, asked for a Tamarind Margarita, the bartender didnt have enough to make one but still he decided to send me a water drink. No flavor no alcohol. Of course I called the waiter and asked to add more Tamarind and alcohol the guy come clear and told me that they didnt have enough thats why it was tasteless
The services was awful. The place was not busy at all 2 table with clients. Took for ever for someone to take our order. The young lady that served us had no idea what we had order. Very frustrating no customer service. They got several dishes wrong. My roasted chicken was red inside. The mofongo with shrimp was good and the chicharones de pollo were tasty.
My husband and I were regulars at El Viejo Yayo. The manager knew us and always greeted us upon arrival. Tonight he wasn’t there, but didn’t think anything of it. We ordered our food and I ordered grilled pork chops. They came out fried. Ok, no big deal, I’ll let it slide even though my husband ate without me. The waitress told me 5-7 minutes. 15 minutes later she comes out with burnt grilled pork chops. How could they even leave the kitchen? They were burnt and dry as a bone. That was it, we got the check and left. Needless to say, I left not only hungry but annoyed. The manager that used to be there ran a tight ship. The food and service was excellent. After reading some other reviews, I’m assuming he is no longer there and this is just the way it is now. So disappointed! Definitely wouldn’t recommend and won’t be back.
Supposedly they’re on the new management . I called to place an order for takeout nobody never picked up so I went to the restaurant myself to place the order so I ordered a churrasco well done with rice and black beans. Paid $29 change when I got home The meat was not well done they gave me red beans instead of black beans I have a order and the churrasco and didn’t even come with the salad that and the other another ownership came with salad. And the price went up eight dollars compared to the other owner.. horrible service and the meat tasted bland..
Food was ok. Had some empanadas as an appetizer and grilled chicken with mash potatoes. Parts of the chicken was very chewy and the potatoes were ok. The empanadas werent that good. The price of the food is where the real problem is, its definitely way overpriced for the quality and portions of the food
I think this restaurant isnt so bad. I walked in. I see food prepared sat where I think is at a bar. I got rice, beef stew and plantain. I didnt get no drink I just stick with water. However I see that they dont have much selection on drinks. The bar is super small on selection which is why I give 4 stars. Other then that great service. Waiter was polite.
Awful. I was excited to bring my date to this restaurant because my last experience about a year ago was good. What a disaster! The rice was hard and uncooked. Fish fried hard as a board. Food was tasteless and cold. I was so embarrassed and disappointed. I will not be back. This 1 star is for the waiter who was kind and apologetic.
Hands down the best value restaurant in the Barclays Center/ Park Slope neighborhood. For the same price as a gyro from a cart, you can choose from a dozen+ of their awesome lunch specials! Tip: If your hungry and want something fast, I recommend ordering the chicken stew with rice, beans, or salad. They have these items heated and ready to go all day. Ive been trying to make my way down everything on their menu, and the only thing I havent thoroughly enjoyed so far was their fried chicken (a bit drier than normal that day), but everything else is wonderful!
Nice place, wasnt busy when I arrived, service was good, I had the roast pork with rice and beans, also a small salad comes with the meal. I ordered a lemonade but didnt care for it, tasted a little off to me, otherwise I was satisfied with the carafe of water they bring to your table. Reasonably priced for what I ordered, also there is music playing, a bar, T.V. and highchairs for toddlers. Good to bring the family, or for after work, you can celebrate almost any occasion, and I believe they cater too. Conveniently near shopping where you walk just one block to Flatbush ave, Bklyn and the Barclays Center if your going to an event. Near all buses and trains.
Im giving the restaurant three stars reluctantly. I came in for a bite to eat. I ordered pernil y arroz con gandules. They didnt have the beans I wanted so they gave me arroz con habichuelas. Fine, no big deal. However, the dish was not good at all. The portion size was small and not very hot. It seems like they just reheated some pernil. The price for the dish was $17. I understand that they are restaurant and not a takeout place, but this is ridiculous for the portion and the food served. I would not go back here again.
Yayos has absolutely delicious Latin American food. Its a bit pricey but the portions you get definitely reflect those prices. The portions are absolutely huge. Its rare you find a delicious restaurant such as Yayos who not only has delicious food, but doesnt skimp on portions. Theyll definitely feed you if youre hungry
The food is always amazing when I come here. I highly recommend the Coconut Margarita. Although it was not on the menu, I was able to order tostones with avocado on the side. For an entree I ordered the chicharrones de pollo. The chicken in this dish is crispy on the outside, and very tender on the inside. Really excellent food, great service, and beautiful ambiance.
I order stewed chicken with white rice and pink pinto beans. The stewed chicken tasted as if it had be in a pot for 24 hours boiling. And the cook continued to add water. The broth tasted like watered down ketchup. The beans came in a separate container (the size of a 1 cup measurement). When I attempted to scoop the beans onto my rice, it literally had 7 beans in the watered down broth. When I told the waiter, he told me that was how they come. If I wanted more beans... I should order the black beans. Needless to say, I was thoroughly disappointed. I didnt eat it.
Im only giving this restaurant 1 star because I have to in order to write this review. I came here with my family of 12 people. 1st) Problem I asked to use the bathroom the manager Carmen was going to send me downstairs. Even though there was a bathroom in the next room. Fortunately, someone else showed me to the other restroom. 2) Our food took forever to arrive 3) The restaurant messed up my French Fries. How hard is it to make French fries? And they were low on desserts but nobody told me this when I called and made reservation 4) There were a group of loud teenagers singing Nicki Minaj. Did the manager Carmen do anything? No she didnt. I dont come to eat to listen to a group of loud teenagers sing explicit lyrics
I was really disappointed, the service was teribble . The waitress took our order wrong missing one item that we had order which was fine, but now the problem is I had a party of 12 .2 people order oxtails only the mash potatoes and rice and beans came out 20 mins later the oxtails came by that time their sides are cold .the food came out all different times leaving some people finish and some still waiting to eat at the table . The waitress didnt bother ask us if we needed anything ,we had to ask for forks ,drinks etc never check up on us, I had order the grill lobster tail with the veggies the veggies was cooked perfect but when I got to the lobster HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT !!!! The lobster Reeks of ammonia clearly it was spoil it was terrible , the chef clearly dont know food and shouldnt be working in the kitchen , Im usually a great tipper and felt extremely bad to leave just a 10 tip for a bill for $300.00 but I was so disappointed in service and my daughter food the birthday girl didnt get her food until everyone was done eating .so Im never going back .
One of the nicest Hispanic resturants which offer a wide variety of dishes that youll enjoy. My favorite eatery in Park Slope, nice friendly atmosphere and courteous service. Also has a bar adjoining to the resturant, if you drinnk. A great business meeting place over a great meal! My favorite dishes to try is the Stewed chicken or the Oxtails! Yummy, and will make your stomach happy!
The bathroom had flooded toilets and no soap plus the entrees were over priced. I had chicken stuffed with salmon and a plantain w/ rice and beans. No salad, no soup. My adult son had the most anemic Snapper with one side as well. The bread was crusty and old. The drinks were weak. This crazy bus boy kept hovering around The table rushing us to finish so he can clear the plates. The server was the only professional and pleasant thing about this restaurant.
Don’t come here if you’re hungry. you will be waiting 30 minutes to get your order in.bring your own rice, because apparently they’re out.of RICE. at a latin restaurant.would never recommend this restaurant. The service was heinous. Waitresses incompetent. the food cold. and beer warm.
Yayos use to be the gathering spot for our family and friends. Clean, reasonable prices, tasty food w/large portions. Every since Barclays opened, Ive noticed changes. Ok I can live with the price increase, & even the smaller portions, but whats with the taste of the food. The food is awful. Food establishments should always continue to serve the quality of food that made them popular. Who are they catering to right now.
Went to a catered party there. Almost 20 steps to the bsmt. No elevators for the elderly. Waitress service was shoddy, besides the fact that the food totally sucked (buffet style) the few times they waited a table with carafes everyone (party of about 50 people) was presented with puss-faced attitude. What a sad waste of time and money.
I brought for my daughter for her 16th Bday,To this placeBig mistakeFood sucks, No AC,I asked 3 times for the AC to please be put lowerAnd temperature never went downIm a business owner and Im familiar of the central AC system, temperature never went down from 78*Finally I asked the Owner she actually came 3 timesTo where the thermostat is but to say the truth temperature never changedI will never come back or refer any one to this disgusting placeI’m so disappointed to be here.Ps. Spend $400 worst place to pickIf there was an option of 0 starsI would of went for it.Noah
Racist and Service was Horrible!!! Food was okay. Last night as me and my Business Partner sat on a dinner meeting we had to ask for water even though the cups were in front of us empty. We were not given any water or the complementary basket of bread with butter. I had to ask for both items and didnt get the biscuits until after I finished my meal. I notice that the Spanish customers around my table were all given the items as they first sat down to eat. My partner and I are both of hispanic origin, but the only catch is that we are mixed with Black descent as well. Our skin is dark so we are normally persume to be only black, but either way this establishment is suppose to provide good service no matter the color of ones skin Complexion !!!!! I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO A FEMALE MANAGER AND SHE SEEM DISINTERESTED IN THE MATTER. SO IF YOUR BLACK OR HAVE DARK SKIN PAY ATTENTION AS YOU ATTEND THIS RESTAURANT. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT I WAS NEGLECTED AT THIS RESTAURANT. THE FIRST TIME I DIDNT THINK ANYTHING OF IT BUT NOW I SEE A PATTERN AS NOW ATTENDING THIS LOCATION FOR A SECOND TIME.....
Went there during the Salsa fest a couple weeks back. No fault to the staff who did an amazing job considering how many people were there but the management could have used another bartender and waitress during a Latin event 2 blocks away. Otherwise Id give them a 4.5
The worst service Ive seen for large groups ever. Maybe Im Bias from being everything from dishwasher to manager I may have hire standers? If you have a reservation (they really dont or so they claim) party of 35 come in and your restaurant is 90 empty you should have sat the group towards the front for two reasons. 1st: you give off the impression to potential customers that your restaurant is aka pOPin. (#) 2: beCAUSE your a/C (thats air conditioning people) isnt working At least the group is bye the door. Weve done so many events at this place, theyve lot a big group of customers...... pS this place used to be called El Viejo Yayo the need to bring the Viejo back. eWWWW my fist 1 ☆
Terrible service. African American girl with short hair hardly acknowledged us upon arriving and never came to our table to Help us. I’ve been going to the second location for years and shocked to see how terrible the service is at this location. Not to mention it was empty. We won’t return.
Military friendly: The food is good, but the wine selection is not great (wish they had Carménère and the Malbec was not worth trying), but the people were great! This place has salsa dancing on Thursday night, but you have to finish your wine and drinks upstairs, then pay a cover charge to go downstairs, unless youre associated with the military and can show your military ID. With this in mind, you shouldnt expect Michelin to give this place a star, but you can have a great time with the right people that want to dance salsa and enjoy a Latino environment in Brooklyn!
🤗My Go-To-Guy *(Juan)* from Mac Cosmetics, at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn recommended Yayos and it was the best recommendation outside of makeup yet.I dont normally eat Spanish food. But I have to say. If ever/Whenever Ill crave for Spanish food. (YAYOS) will be my go to place. The food and service there is THAT GOOD!!!😋Their pricing is reasonable and you get a large plate of yummy food.So be prepared to ask for a doggie bag.Yayos do catering and have private🎈 party rooms🎉for all special occasions🎊.There are plenty of tables and seats for large crowds Or just a dinner date for one☝️lol..or two👫.Yayos bathrooms is very clean and smell fresh. The lighting is warm, cozy and inviting. The bar area is organized and have friendly professional bartenders who is attentive to your preferences🤵.🎵The music at Yayos is nice🎶.I can cha cha/salsa the night away💃🕺.Its very special and heartwarming when bartenders sing along with the music their playing and doesnt mind explaining the song to you. You can definitely feel and embrace the positive energy there🤩OH, BTW!To top it all off. I had a slice of their pineapple cake 🍰and a glass of white 🥂wine.!!!PERFECT!!!💓 [JUST]💓!!!PERFECT!!!🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙Brooklyn🗽
Whenever Im in the mood for Latin American dishes, well whenever Im in the area, I would go to El Viejo Yayo. My mom discovered this restaurant a few years back and its still the same; inexpensive eats and great service from an uber friendly staff. No frills, just authentic Latin cuisine.
We used to come here often as a younger family. The food is still delicious after all these years. What is different is the very young staff that work there now. Before it was like my tias were serving me and now I cross my fingers that this girl knows the difference between a Negra and Especial. I live in Queens now and when my family in Bkyln say theyre going to El Viejo Yayo, I make sure Im there.

2021-08-05We went for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent and definitely budget friendly and we orderedway too much!! The Seafood Paella was out of this world. However, the staff is lacking. Took too long for our dinner and our waitress pretty much disappeared. She wanted me to sign the receipt again even though I already had paid the bill with the manager. I had to confirm with them that my bill was only processed once. Will I go back? Maybe.....

2022-01-10So it’s funny to read a few reviews pertaining to their service being iffy only to find that my server was beyond pleasant, the staff as a whole seemed pretty nice (greeted upon entry and as we exited). Also a DOUBLE bonus, this place being located blocks away from the Barclays center one of the HARDEST areas to find parking and they have a lot for cars when you come to dine in, just perfection (free parking). I came in for lunch and left with a belly stuffed and satisfied. My girlfriend and I had the chicharron de pollo, I had it boneless and she had it with a bone, we ordered a Pina colada and tostones as extra items. Pina colada was good but nothing spectacular, tostones was perfect, and I truly enjoyed my boneless chicken with rice and red beans. They check your vaccine card upon entry so yes be prepared to present this before being seated. Ample seating space and nice calm atmosphere at lunch. Will be visiting again!

2022-05-27Typical latin meals at reasonable prices for the location. Just a block away from Barclays Center. The food was not very memorable but we did finish our meals.

2021-11-15Zero stars Fish bones in pepper steak🤢🤮 Garbage!!!!!!!Update: responding to owner... You say its done fresh? I called and you had no respect or courtesy to answer. I cant control if your cook is a unsanitary! All I know is those fish bones were in the plate. I couldve choked. I am not dellusional nor will I make something like this up. See additional pictures that I wouldve send you to your phone when staff told me to call back in 5 minutes then to call back in 30 minutes. I was willing return the plate of food that I threw out but unfortunately you were ignoring my calls and didnt have the courtesy to call me. I will NEVER purchase from your restaurant ever again! $55 of food in the garbage 🗑.

2022-03-30I USED to love this spot. Walked in got a beer and 2 shots. They charged me $33.75 and then had the audacity to change their happy hour from 3-7 to 4-7 when I mentioned the price issue. I called, first they put me on hold and hung up on me. Then they tried to leave me on hold as long as possible thinking Id hang up. Unfortunately Im commuting home right now. So not only will I continue to call until I speak with a manager, I also will be letting my coworkers (in both schools) know NOT to go waste money there with their scheming, stealing, disgusting staff. The most I shouldve spent was $18 before tip. And I STILL TIPPED IN CASH. This was my go to lunch spot. Never again. Everywhere else has integrity. I hope this place burns down. Youre a bunch of theives who deserve nothing.

2022-05-19Honestly, the food was not worth the money. Do not get the shrimp as it was not seasoned. The service was not good. An equally large group arrived before us and were attended way before. Waitress never came back after taking our order and an automatic 18% gratuity added.

2022-06-26Grilled pork chops was fantastic and the classic mojitos was perfect. I would definitely go back again. The music was a great setting.

2022-06-10Walked in to place a take out order.Ordered mofongo was told I couldnt order extra gravy!! What in the world! As a customer Ive NEVER been to a restaurant where Im paying and told I cant order something! They literally argued about the fact that the mofongo doesnt come with gravy; Ive never been served dry mofongo in my life. As it turned out the gravy was extremely salty the Chuleta had a taste of it being not fresh chips and it was over priced! Then I was told it wasnt the Viejo Yayo anymore.BELIEVE ME THAT WAS THE ONLY TRUE STATEMENT because they cannot compare! The Viejo Yayo is waaay better! Garlic does not agree with every one.And beside that if the customer is willing to pay for the menu change which often happens then why not? Customers are there for you to please not the other way around

2019-11-24Decent food the recent remodel went fabulously and the place looks almost swanky now with the addition of a bar. On a scale of 1-10 I would give the food 8.5, the staff is nice and generally speaking it’s easy to find a seat because the restaurant is divided into 3 quadrants, Bar area with tables, formal dining and buffet eating with pull up chairs. It’s definitely worth a go.
