Kicked my friend out because she was having a panic attack during a pride event where she and others thought they heard gunshots, she ran inside the establishment to hide and protect herself and was kicked out because she βwasnβt buying anythingβ extremely unprofessional behavior from the staff not even bothering to ask if she or others were okay couldnt even be bothered to help locate the group she was with so she could get back home safely, if i could give negative stars i would
A classic N.Y.C Jazz spot. New location from the Houston street locale. I remember being on Houston street the legendary Drummer Victor Jones had finished his first set. I went to the front bar and they were playing music. I asked what it was cause the album he had played was Cal Tjaders Sol sauce. It had relaxed me. I was buzzed but, it put me in a good place, good vibe.
Little gem of a place tucked away downstairs on 3rd. Nice bar in front and a surprisingly large performance space in back. Drinks are good, but very minimal beer selection all in bottles. Goose island is as close to craft as youll see. Service was good, though it was just us.We saw Frank Lacy on a Tuesday night with a $15 cover. Place was vacant. Lacy is a talented trombone player Ive no doubt, but had neither the energy nor the creativity to lead a 3-piece band this night, forcing a drum solo on every song. 1 drum solo A night is more than enough for me, generally. We left early, but Ill be back to sample some of the other musical offerings, I like the ambiance of the place. The website could sure use an update. No one has empty front pages that you have to click enter (except for porn).
Great jazz lounge. Small, dark and intimate. House special drinks are good, people are nice and the music is great. Had the pleasure of hearing Jack Wilkins, Vic Juris, Mark Whitfield & Joe Cohn play some of the best jazz guitar ever. These guys are F***n FANTASTIC! Only in NYC!
Extremely bad service, watery and low quality, overpriced cocktails. The waitress paid little to no attention to us, then took half an hour after taking our order to tell us they didnt have mezcal. When we asked her for tap water repeatedly she snapped in a minute (but never brought it). Our friend ordered a virgin piΓ±a colada which turned out to be canned Pineapple juice - they charged 12(!!!)$ for this. Not to mention the serious lack of hygiene in their bathroom...
This place is exceptional. I never would have found it were it not for the pandemic and their beautiful patio construction. The owners are just splendid, conscious people offering spirits in biodegradable PLA plastic cups! The coffee is amazing, the vibe is personal with a great neighborhood feel and the people who come here Ive found to be entirely awesome with no exception. Rarely am I enchanted by a spot so completely. Please come to Zinc!
I had a really good time watching the band tonight, but one of the bartenders just ruined the experience for me! The musicians were so good, but one bartender treated me like a criminal the whole time I was there, repeatedly asking for payment after I explained to her that I had opened a tab with one of the other bartenders (whom was also holding my card). I can honestly say that I was very polite to her the whole time, but despite this, she brought the bill as soon as the band had finished, (which she didnt do to any of the other tables) and when I came up to pay, she aggressively informed me that my jacket was still at my table (implying that I had to leave immediately). I really cant work out what I did to be treated like that. This was all after I spent over $60 on the cover charge and 4 drinks! Sad to have such a great live music experience tainted by rude staff.
Awesome music. But there was an extremely rude, server. She literally told me as I was leaving βdonβt come backβ because I didnβt buy a drink in the first 2 mins...service is everything. And feeling welcome is everything.Iβd say go for the music. But if you get the server I got, be prepared. She was rude, I was going to buy a drink. But I honestly didnβt wanna pay or tip someone like that. Iβd rather go to a lower end club with great service.
Oddly but my boyfriend didnβt like this place while I enjoyed my time. So, Zinc Bar was a local venue for jazz music. To get in, we paid entrance fee- 20$. Interior of the place put me in the cozy mood. The whole place had dominant color of red and burgundy and I loved dimmed lights. My boyfriend complained about the place being dirty, and there was some true in his words. The tables were not wiped and the floors were messy; however, in the dark it was hard to notice it lolAnother minus, the music bar didnβt hold expensive alcohol such as Crowne Royal and some types of scotches. The place was definitely more casual than upscale. I still liked the place even my bf wanted to leave after 30 minutes being there. I would love to give the second chance to this place. In the same time, Iβm suggesting to others to visit this place and make your own opinion.
The A train and the bourbon drink are my go toβs. I have yet to sit for the live music but I live that I can hear it from the bar. Iβm a fan of the bartenders here and the bouncer. Heβs sort of the best dude and Iβm glad Iβve chatted with him about the neighborhood every chance I get. Love this place.
AMAZING!!! nowhere else a better spot to spend my New Years eve! In great company and enjoying the performing art of a legend, Mr.Tony Middleton and his extraordinary band. nice, chill place and I simply loved it. perfect spot to go in the evening, sit back, have a drink and enjoy high quality performances.
Itβs been almost 10 years since Iβve last visited zinc bar and itβs just as I remember it with great performances and a warm atmosphere. The musicians play jazz like itβs a conversation. So amazing! I highly recommend Zinc bar and will definitely return again soon. And not wait so long this time π
Party of 6 of us arrived here on a Saturday evening. Since we friends were meeting after a long time, we wanted to chat while hoping to catch some of the live music. Well, this place was just perfect as there is a tiny lounge area right at the entrance of the bar which has a comfy sofa as well as some chairs and small tables. We could hear the live music that was ongoing in their music room (which requires a cover charge of usually $20 over weekends) but it wasnt too loud to drown out the conversation. Drinks were priced OK. No draft beer but a small selection of bottles. Because they dont serve food, you can BYO (provided its not a big box of pizza) -- we stepped around the corner to the local 7-11 and bought some cheese and nuts to enjoy with our drinks. The service was a bit slow (we had to call for the waitress twice) but friendly enough.
Zinc was a reserved quiet spot with the look of a speakeasy, yet somehow readily accessible in the West Village. They apparently serve as a venue for live music as well. The staff was easily able to keep up with simple drink orders, but the wine menu seemed small, and they offer nothing in the way of food.Might be a cute date spot, with a few curtained booths and dim lighting, but its hard to know what it fell like on a much busier night. In that area on a non-peak evening, Zinc stands apart as a simple affair, where you can duck in to avoid the usual crowds of the area.
HIDDEN GEM!! Cuban Music led by excellent pianist named Axel, fuses Latin euphoria with classical instrumentals. Axel will even ask for instrumental players to come out from the audience and jump on stage makes for a really great time. $20 cover with excellent drinks. Easily a great place to take out-of-towners or New Yorkers just looking for a good time.
We came here as a big group and took over the whole floor to support a comedian perform here. it turned out we had more people than they could afford to hold. We struggled to find seats and space but we managed to laugh through the show and enjoyed ourselves.Drinks here are about $11 and kind of small. But the overall atmosphere makes up for the price. Service was nice and not pushy at all.
When I was seventeen, I knew I wanted to spend my free time in jazz bars, with lush curtains, and expensive cocktails.Zinc Bar does it for me everytime. Its a small bar, but the music is always good. The back is the performance space which you can pay a cover to get into, or you can sit in the front and listen and chat. Its perfect for an intimate date with yourself, or a significant other. All the drinks are named after jazz stars or singles. Its comforting.
Horrible cocktails. Complained to waitress who was dismissive and didnβt believe us.Later more guests arrive and send back their cocktails and she said guess you were right. Also she adjusted her tip which my CC adjusted.Besides some good jazz the place was dishonest and inept and simple cocktails
I enjoyed the live jazz but was happy to sit and listen to them croon while I sat at the bar. It was enjoyable meeting people, sipping on a cocktail or a good cappuccino, all while being surrounded by delicious music. For the true jazz enthusiasts who want to get closer to the action its $15.00 bucks to sit as an audience member for the live performance. Not a bad price to pay but Im sure one would expect to keep the cocktail server busy with some mandatory drink minimum. I prefer the place after the scheduled covers are finished and jazz players from all over NYC come out at 11:00 to have a jam session. The only small hang-up for me was the semi-creepy owner who kept trying to talk to me and brag about how it was his establishment. I go for the jazz not to be hit on by the owner but hey...thats NY. Cheers! :-)
Cons: RUDE STAFF, making an exception to the bartender that is a nice guy. One of the doorman refused to say the concert price again to me when I didnβt hear him the first time. They treated me even worse when I said I would pay the concert by credit card (30 dollars btw). They will hold your card, which is common in NY.Then, they put me in a table and when I asked regular water JUST TO START, one of the waitress said in the rudest way you can imagine: βYou need to ask at least one drink of 10 dollars!β.I decided to leave and I asked the waitress to give my card back, and she answered βwhat do you mean with You cannot stayβ. Then the bartender explained to her what I meant and could get my credit card back.Pros: Great bands, small but good atmosphere and drinks are good as well.
Amazing experience if you decide to go on a Saturday night and pay for the ticket to be seated in the lounge where live music plays! Monika Oliveira and the Brazilians will take you to Brazil with their wonderful rendition of classic boss nova songs and some original music
Great cocktails. No beer on tap. Poetry. Tango class. Jazz music. Red curtains. Literary-friendly: you can actually just go to Zinc Bar alone and read a book while having a cocktail if its too drizzly to read a book in the park. Poetry on Sunday afternoons is sliver of old (20th c) New York... bathroom is also from old New York.
The bouncer on Saturday night, 4/22/18 was extremely rude to me. He told me to move my chair, even though i wasnt in the way, and he didnt ask me politely, but just maddogged me and bullied me, as if I had committed a crime. The band was good, the bartender cool, but that bouncer needs to come back down to earth, treat people with reapect, and take that chip off his shoulder. I paid 20 dollars and was watching the show, and he inturupted me loudly, not inconspicuously or respectfully, to force me to move. Totally unnecessary and bad customer service. Need to find someone who is more tactful, and understands how to treat people, and how to get people to come back to a nightclub, not like that.
If you love jazz and great atmosphere and enjoy sharing with other jazz lovers the Zinc Bar is the place, every 3 weeks Arnie Perez and Nat they present great live jazz artists this pat sunday i had the pleasure to hear The DiRubbo-Hendrix Quintet it was awesome, on the 30th of September theyre going to have The Corcoran Holt Quintet i cant wait Im taking my sister with me. Ill see you there!
Bad costumer service, unfriendly owner, HAD MY CREDIT CARD HELD HOSTAGE... I went with a friend, who bought an offer from Google (buy one, get a second pass free two months before going), and the owner and bouncer after inspecting it, approving, and clicking on it (cashing it in) harassed us through the night saying that we need to pay for the second ticket despite having accepted the offer. Through the night, he walked up to us several times. They stood behind where we were sitting, not far from us, and were talking about what to do about the offer loudly, and were looking it us. It was quite uncomfortable. I felt unwelcomed and do not understand why someone would put out an offer online and not honor it, or cash in the offer at the door and approve, than later walk up and ask for more money.... ?Finally, I asked to close my tab, finding it too much... and surprise surprise, besides my bill they charged me an extra $15... without notice charging my card (not asking if I want to pay cash for it, or informing me personally that I need to pay...since they had the conversation throughout the night with my friend.... besides the point that my friend invited me and wanted the cover my charge) THEY KEPT MY CARD, and did not return it, until I paid for my entrance... So I signed the bill and gave it to the waitress who asked me if there is anything else I want. I HAD TO SPECIFICALLY ASK THE WAITRESS TO RETURN ME THE CARD!!!!.... at that point I could not wait to get out of the place. Unethical and unprofessional behavior.Overall, it was a bad experience. Was harassed by the OWNER, BOUNCER, and brushed off by the WAITRES... who while waiting for my friend to pay his bill was GIVING US THE LOOK, and ROLLING HER EYES. I am aware, the waitress could not help the owner and bouncers behavior... however, there was no need for the look and rolling of eyes...
A waitress spilled wax all over my wifes clothes and handbag. The manager offered to pay for the cleaning fee, but never got back to me, despite multiple attempts to contact him. Staff was very rude, often taking down my number, but never calling back and just now slamming the phone down, telling me that I am not the only trying to reach the manager. The whole experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth.
Horrible management.. the bodyguard tries to get the cover for the gig even though the manager said no cover because it is empty.. there is this crazy lady with a walking stick annoying people.. it seems like this place tries to get rid of people and they dont want to make money.. i feel sorry for the musicians

2022-07-09Very nice place! Felt like you were transported to the 20s/30s jazz scene. Lots of velvet and gold accents πThe drinks were about $15-20, and the selection of liquor they had was fairly small. (Only 1 or 2 brands of each liquor) I had a chocolate martini with whipped cream. The service was nice as well! They allowed you to have time to relax and drink, and enjoy the company in front of you. I never felt rushed or bombarded with service, but they checked in at the right moments. If you want a relaxing lounge experience with classic cocktails, jazz and good company- this is a great place to try.

2022-03-09The place is nice but is more for like a date. I came with my sister on a Friday and we where expecting live music but we pick the wrong day for it. I think they say theres only live music on Saturday, dont remember well. Drinks werent so good but the service was excellent, I remember we ask the waitress to change one of our drinks cuz my sister didnt like it and they did it without any charge.

2022-04-29This place is the reason why I miss NY! If you want coffee go to Starbucks, if you want fancy cocktails go to a fancy cocktail bar, if you want good service go to a Michelin-starred restaurant. You come here just for some of the best intimate music experiences of your life...choose wisely based on the daily line-up, but once you get it right, you will never forget this experience

2022-04-12Went back to Zinc for the first time post-Covid. The main room is beautiful and so much more comfortable than the typical place youll see music in NYC.They could do a better job updating the shows, or even promoting the shows. Drinks were good/expensive, the servers were friendly but busy. Probably could explain the cover charge better too.I saw the Gotham City Ragtime Band and absolutely loved them and loved the room, the sound and the comfortable atmosphere (Im 63, 230lbs and usually suffer being squeezed into the usual jazz club tables).Giving Zinc five stars based on the beautiful room, friendly staff and great music. Looking forward to getting back!

2022-02-27Do they even want to be open? The host/guy at the door was lovely but once youβre in prepare for a long wait. Waited to order, waited for drinks, never got water, tried to pay when we ordered because it too so long, no. Not allowed. We should have just left. NoThe drinks were all only ok and ave $20 per drink. What a waste of time and money. There wasnβt even any music playing.

2022-05-22Zinc Bar is like a fine wine. They remain kind and caring towards their patrons as well as their musicians who frequent the stage. So glad they survived the quarantine and I look forward to coming back!

2021-06-10Hellooo!! Well honestly the slowest service in a long time. Twenty mins to get a frozen mojito and a cider. We had to ask for water twice.I do not understand new yorkers attitude when go out of town and demand fast service or complaint for minor things when they have standard slow service in their own place.Hope customer service improves a lot here.See yall soon.

2017-05-03The atmosphere at this place is really down to earth. Its a little divey but in a classy way. The stage is closed off to the bar and you need to pay a $15-20 cover to get in there, but you can hear the music from the bar and small lounge area. Bartender was awesome. If you are a music nerd or appreciate art in any way you would enjoy this place.
